December stirs up a mix of emotions. For some, it brings warmth, celebration, and anticipation — a month full of Christmas lights, gatherings, and meaningful traditions. For others, it surfaces the ache of unfulfilled expectations, difficult memories, or the heaviness of a year that didn’t unfold as hoped. Regardless of how we enter the final month of the year, Scripture reminds us that God offers hope, joy, and peace to every heart that trusts Him. Preparing for December isn’t about forcing ourselves to feel a certain way — it’s about positioning our hearts to receive what God desires to pour into us. Lynette Kittle outlines five simple, biblical ways to prepare your heart for this new month: 1. Count Your BlessingsEven in a year marked by difficulty, God’s hand has carried you here. Remembering His faithfulness builds confidence for the month ahead. 2. Look Ahead with HopeHope is a spiritual posture. We don’t have to see what’s coming to trust the One who holds the future. 3. Feed on God’s WordDecember can be busy or emotionally draining; God’s Word is the nourishment that sustains you through both. 4. Open Your HandsGod fills what is surrendered. Whether your hands feel full or painfully empty, He invites you to receive His goodness. 5. Ask God for His JoyObedience keeps us close to the Father, and closeness leads to joy — a deep, sustaining joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances. However you are entering December — hopeful, tired, grieving, or joyful — God promises to meet you where you are. He offers His hope, His peace, His presence, and His unchanging love as you step into the days ahead. Bible Reading:“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” — Romans 15:13 Takeaway Truths December may bring both joy and sorrow, but God meets us in every emotion. Gratitude helps us recognize God’s faithfulness throughout the year. Hope grows as we trust God for what we cannot see. Spiritual nourishment prepares us for both celebration and hardship. God fills open, surrendered hands with His goodness. True joy comes from walking in God’s love and obedience. Let's Pray Dear Father, As we prepare our hearts for December, bring to mind the blessings You’ve given us throughout this past year. Help us remember Your faithful care and protection. Strengthen our faith to look ahead with hope, trusting that You are already present in every day to come. Give us a hunger for Your Word that we might grow stronger spiritually and more rooted in Your truth. Teach us to open our hands before You. When our hands are full, help us lay down what doesn’t matter. When our hands are clenched in disappointment or fear, gently open them so we can receive Your goodness. Fill us with Your joy — a joy that is complete, steady, and rooted in Your love. In Jesus’ name,Amen. Are you excessively tired with your hair falling out, nails always breaking, brain often foggy or sometimes, despite having youth on your side, maybe forgetting how to form a sentence? These are amongst the symptoms of iron deficiency, often underdiagnosed. Nuala McGovern will be speaking to Dr Sue Pavord, Consultant Haematologist and President of the British Society for Haematology, and freelance journalist Rose Stokes. The Royal College of Pathologists say that a shortage of consultants means that "1 in 5 families are now waiting 6 months or more, and some longer than 12 months" for post mortems. The 'paediatric and perinatal pathology workforce' report said there were no paediatric or perinatal pathology consultants in the South West, the Midlands or Northern Ireland. Dr Clair Evans, the chair of the college's advisory committee - a Consultant Paediatric and Perinatal pathologist explains the situation further. At lunchtime on Wednesday the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, will unveil her much anticipated second budget. How could this budget affect the lives of women in 2026? We're joined by the BBC's Cost of Living correspondent Colletta Smith, to talk us through what we might see in the red briefcase on Wednesday. A self-portrait by Frida Kahlo has just sold for $55 million in New York. It is the highest price ever paid for a work by a female artist. To illustrate the magnitude of the difference, a painting by Klimt was also sold recently for $236m. Professor Renee Adams is a professor of finance at Oxford Saïd business school and researches the role of gender in the art market, where women's works generally achieve much lower values. She explains why and what needs to change. As part of the BBC 2 Civilisations series, tonight's programme looks at the rise and fall of the Aztec Empire and the part that a young woman played in its demise. She was called Malintzin and acted as translator at the momentous first meeting in 1519 between Montezuma, the ruler of the vast Aztec Empire, and the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés. To find out more about Malintzin and her role in Mexican history and culture Nuala is joined by Dr Elizabeth Baquedano, from the Institute of Archaeology at University College London and Dr Jessica Fernández de Lara Harada from the University of Oxford.Presenter: Nuala McGovern Producer: Kirsty Starkey

00:30: How do we feel about where the Patriots sit at the start of the stretch drive? 02:00: We're still waiting on that first little bit of real adversity. Always striving for perfection. … Don't ever be comfortable.” 16:50: On Drake's kryptonite. “I don't see it.” 20:18: One reason to be optimistic about the Patriots, and one reason to be pessimistic. 25:45: As a guy who identifies as an ex-Patriot, is this year a little more fun than watching your old team over the last couple of years? This powerful message invites us into the transformative reality of perspective, using the lens of Christ's crucifixion to reframe how we endure hardship. Drawing from Hebrews 12:1-3, we're challenged to see that Jesus didn't simply survive the cross—He endured it 'for the joy set before Him,' keeping His eyes fixed on the eternal outcome rather than the immediate agony. The sermon walks us through the brutal reality of what Christ actually suffered: the opposition, the shame, the physical torture, and the mockery from the very people He came to save. Yet in all of this, Jesus maintained a perspective rooted in eternity, seeing beyond the nails to the resurrection, beyond humiliation to His enthronement. This isn't about ignoring pain or pretending hardship doesn't exist. Rather, it's about relocating our trust when we can't understand everything, remembering that God is good even when circumstances aren't. The message challenges us to examine where pain is currently defining our perspective and how we can intentionally look to Jesus to broaden our view from the present moment to the vastness of eternity. When we root our perspective in what God has done, is doing, and will do—rather than just our current circumstances—we discover the remarkable capacity to find joy even in difficulty, to run with endurance even when the race is hard.
