This episode is part 2 of a cinic on pre gane hitting by Todd Buckingham. In this episode Todd breaks down each of his 30 minute hitting circuits. Todd has constructed 10 – 3 minute hitting stations that will target each area of a fastpitch softball players hitting technique. But remember, consistency is key, work on these stations in practice before trying to do them before a game. SoftballJunk.com is a great resource for fastpitch softball bats. An important aspect to Todd’s pre-game warm-ups for any fastpitch softball team, is making sure that each station is manned by a coach or someone to hold the player accountable for warming up correctly. Tune in as Todd breaks down his Front toss, bottom hand/top hand tee, inside/outside tee, leg drive, mini ball, heavy ball and bunt stations. He also explains exactly what each station focuses on and how it helps improve batting performance. For the first four to five years she played recreational softball and then came to love the sport with all of her success and good coaching. As she got older she began participating in fastpitch softball travel teams. Shelly starting catching in High School in Sacramento and continued into college at Fresno State University. Shelly explains her journey from graduating college and playing in the women's nationals Softball Circuit. Shelly and five of her teammates were awarded All- American which automatically entered them for a chance to be a part of the Women's Olympic Fastpitch Softball Team. In the Atlanta Olympics Shelly mentions how appreciative she was to have to been a part of the U.S.A. team. After Shelly's Olympic career she began working, got married, and had two children. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - This week we finish a fastpitch softball hitting clinics by Jennie Dalton Hill. This is part 4. You may want to start with part 1 of this 4 part series. http://SoftballJunk.com is a great resource for all your favorite fastpitch softball bats! Jennie begins This part of her fast pitch softball offense clinic with describing how softball coaches can help players understand all of the information and pointers that their many coaches have given them. As a softball coach you must be your players constant by filtering all of their information down to what is right for your fastpitch softball player. She also suggests to relate your softball offensive coaching to what your players know. Coaches must bridge the gap with their players so that the players can better understand the information they must retain on a level that they can understand. This week we continue a series of fastpitch softball hitting clinics by Jennie Dalton Hill. This is part 3. Make sure to check out part 1 and part 2 if you haven"t already! http://SoftballJunk.com has great deals of the right fastpitch softball bat just for you! Women's U.S.A. baseball coach Jennie Dalton Hill continues answering fast pitch softball coaches' questions on how to improve their players offense. One particular fastpitch softball coach mentions that a few of his players are becoming overly aggressive in rotating their hips and losing their balance to run to first base. Jennie's reply is again to help the player feel what they are doing wrong. If that player can't feel it then they can't fix it. Jennie then suggest to have your softball player check themselves if they have over rotated by jumping from the place that they have finished their swing. To find a way that the player can work on the problem without their softball coach always being present and still improve is the best solution so that they can be working on their swing at all times. Jennie is also asked by one of the softball coaches about how to improve timing. For timing, she explains that timing in fastpitch softball is also something to be developed by manipulating your distance to improve timing. Jennie finishes with explaining several other drills that some coaches are having trouble seeing results in. She explains that these drills may seem, and are simple, but they are not easy. Just stay motivated with your softball team! This week we start a new series of fastpitch softball hitting clinics by Jennie Dalton Hill. This is part 1. http://SoftballJunk.com has great deals on amazing fastpitch softball bats just for you! Jennie Dalton Hill begins mentioning some of her success as an All-American Softball player at the University of Arizona and was National player of the year in 1996, but chose to take a different route after college softball and chose to play baseball playing on the Colorado Silver Bullets. She resigned from the team after one year and was married and had three children. Only one year ago she decided to try out for the U.S.A Women's baseball team and now coaches them and is on the board of directors. She continues explaining how important it is to have a purposeful off-season softball offense. Although off-season offense hitting can be boring, Jennie pushes the urgency to keep your fastpitch softball players motivated. The off-season is a time for coaching and learning about how to improve. Jennie then explains how she would approach a softball offense lesson as a teacher. The first thing to do is to make a goal whether it be a team goal or a individual goal for each of your softball players. That coach needs to understand their softball player and his/her weaknesses and coach them on how to improve each and every time they step up to the plate. Each player is different and will require different forms of advice in how to chance their swing. To have the player understand their own flaws and how to correct them with proper mechanics is what will help a softball player most. Jennie states that the purpose of the off-season is to help teach, instruct, and help kids understand themselves. If they can't understand themselves then they can't help the team. The biggest point Jennie is wanting to make is that the players must have an understanding of themselves as softball players and their swing and how it is supposed to look so that they can help you help themselves. If you haven't seen part 1 make sure to check it out! http://SoftballJunk.com is a great resource for all of your softball bat needs. Fastpitch softball coach Courtney Scott finishes up her fourth and final portion of her catching clinic. Several of the softball coaches express their concern with whether to teach their catchers to call the game. Courtney replies with the answer that it is never too early to teach a catcher to call a game. It teaches them to be more involved in the game as well as keeping the pitcher and catcher more connected during a game. She also explains the importance of the catcher to be strong in guiding the team. The catcher should have a prescence that other teams fear and lead her softball team. As a catcher the team will rely on you to be the backbone for the reason that the catcher is a part of every play on the field. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - Catcher Megan Willis teaches basic training for fastpitch softball catchers. She gives key tips for all the basic rules of catcher. You can purchase softball bats at http://SoftballJunk.com Willis shows softball girls easy ways to work all the factors of catching so that they can be successful behind the plate. She teaches the right way to receive a drop ball so that the pitch will be called a strike more times than not. She also teaches the right way to receive a ball so that the umpire will think that it is a strike and it will be more efficient than framing a ball because umpires are more likely to notice. She also teaches the correct way to block a softball so that the ball will always stay in front and will not pass behind the catcher and the runner will not advance a base. She shows how when blocking the ball to stay rounded to the plate so the ball will not bounce off in another direction. The last thing she teaches is how to block the plate so that the runner will not score and the runner will get out when she is trying to score home. These tips for catching will help form a good catcher and a way to win a good softball game. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - This interview with softball coach Bob Brock he tells about how he got into coaching and his story behind his coaching career. You can purchase bats at http://SoftballJunk.com Brock started his career by coaching at Baylor in 1979. He now has almost 1000 wins and is still coaching today at Sam Houston State. He has coached softball at many different schools and has been successful at them all. He has won three national championships at A&M and came really close multiple times. Brock used to play fastpitch softball himself before it became a more of a girls sport and without playing fastpitch when he was younger, he would have never became a college softball coach. He has brought up multiple softball programs to make them more successful teams as a whole. Brock's biggest hint to other coaches is to learn the different strategies to pitching so that you can help the pitchers because the more a coach knows about pitching the more of an edge a coach would have to make a winning team. Brock's most memorable moment was his 1987 national championship. In his words it was a very excited and successful team and he was very proud of that team and how talented they were. That softball team sticks in his mind a lot when he thinks of his coaching career. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In Jessica Mendoza's slapping clinic part four, Jessica takes questions from the audience. You can purchase the same softball bat at http://SoftballJunk.com. The first question Mendoza addresses is that you should teach a beginner softball player to hit first then teach how to slapping because it is harder to teach hitting away after they have been taught slapping. The next question was if Mendoza had to work out side of their softball team and they have to work on their own. She says that she did have to work outside and to work one-on-one to get the small details worked out. She also addresses that when the first foot hits down is the same time she makes contact with the softball. And that she never starts in the back of the box but she stays in the same spot in the box no matter if she is hitting away or slapping. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In Jessica Mendoza's slapping clinic part three she talks about where to place the slap and to hit away well from the left side. You can purchase the same softball bat at http://SoftballJunk.com. Mendoza talks about where a good spot to place a good slap and what positions are the toughest to play the slap well. She mentions that second base is a really tough spot to play the slap well because they have the hardest time reading and reacting to the slapper. She says to almost pick on the second base and even the pitcher sometimes because they have the hardest time reacting to the softball in play and aren't always expecting it. Mendoza also talks about power hitting from the left side and the different strategies that some slappers use to hit away with power. She talks about how some slappers even so a slight walk through to hit the softball or even a slide though to hit it hard. Some slappers don't feel comfortable hitting away but when some still walk through or slide through, it makes the slapper feel more comfortable and they can learn how to hit the ball hard without getting to far out of their comfort zone on the left side of the box. Mendoza also talks about working against your own defense because if you can find the weaknesses in your own defense you can find the weaknesses in the team you're playing. It teaches you how to play the spots that are open and to hit the softball in a weak spot of the team. The more that a slapper practices the more likely you can place a good slap in a game. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In Jessica Mendoza slapping clinic part two she talks about how to power slap more than soft slapping. You can purchase the same softball bat she is using at http://SoftballJunk.com. To power slap its more about hitting the center of the bat and hitting right on the sweet spot because the softball is likely to go far. She talks about a more simplistic slap where she just wants to make sure the contact is solid and not so much of the full swing. When slapping if you use the explosion of your legs and good solid contact the ball will go far. Depending on what type of slap that you are wanting to do it depends on where you should place the softball on what part of the bat. She also talks about where you should place the hit depending on what the defense looks like. Depending on how strong the infield looks depends on where you should place the slap and what type of slap you work with. Even some uncommon placements can work with certain teams and certain defensive players. Basically just know the defense and work off of it. It is good to work the short game on some defenses. A split grip is a good choice for short game and certain situations in the game. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In part one of Jessica Mendoza's slapping clinic she talks about how to work your feet. You can purchase the bat she is using at http://SoftballJunk.com. Mendoza talks about how to work your feet and to have an explosive first step to become a successful softball slapper. She says to have an explosive first step so you can adjust to the pitcher so you're not too early or too late. She also says that the first step needs to be toward the pitcher and not toward first base because you do not want the slapper to rush getting to first base. Mendoza also talks about how to position your hands on the bat so that it is not too noticeable as to what you are doing to the defense. She says not to choke up to try and hit a soft slap but actually to just aim the softball to hit the end of the bat because when the softball hit the end of the bat verses choking up it is not noticeable to the defense and it still comes off as softly. She says to practice just soft slapping and hitting the softball off the end of the bat to be more accurate at aiming for that little spot to hit with. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In part four of Bill Hillhouse's pitching clinic he talks about the basics of pitching and his theories and methods to pitching. You can buy softball bats at http://SoftballJunk.com. Hillhouse talks about how to fix the crow hop while pitching. He saying that it is a problem with the hands and not the feet and if the hands were moving faster the feet wouldn't have time to replant and the crow hop would be eliminated. He says to work with a lighter ball to get the arm to move faster so that the feet wouldn't have time to even get off the ground to begin with. He also addresses the weighted softball usage. Hillhouse says that they are not as bad as some people portray them to be and the only thing that he doesn't like about them is that after a few pitches the ball starts to get heavier in the hand the pitcher starts to rely on muscles and not actually pitching correctly. He says they are good for working spins to make the fingers stronger so that spin on the pitch is better and they are good for his sideways "k" drill. He also talks about the different types of drags that some pitchers use and that he doesn't recommend the figure four drag or the "s" drag because it does not keep the momentum dragging but actually directs the momentum in different directions other than straight to the catcher. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In part three of Bill Hillhouse's pitching clinic he talks about the basics of pitching and his theories and methods to pitching. You can buy softball bats at http://SoftballJunk.com. In this part Hillhouse talks about how to move the arm in a good perfect circle and where to touch the arm to make sure that is going in a good circle. He says that to get a good circle motion if you touch the top of your arm to your ear and your forearm to your belly than you know that you have made a good circle and it will reduce any pain that a softball pitcher may have in their arm because of try to over stress their muscles. Hillhouse also talks about foot work and how to get the least amount of resistance possible with the drag that has to happen. Since leaping and crow hopping is illegal he says to drag only the tip toe of the foot so that there is less resistance and you can get more distance towards the catcher. He also talks about the finish and how he thinks that you should not release straight up but actually release almost across the body. He says to snap their arm across the body to get the most power behind the softball. He also mentions the three drills he thinks will help the pitcher develop the skills the best. He teaches the sideways "k", the sideways circle and the walk through pitch. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In part two of Bill Hillhouse's pitching clinic he talks about the basics of pitching and his theories and methods to pitching. You can buy softball bats at http://SoftballJunk.com. One of Hillhouse's most common taught theories is why the softball goes where is does when it is thrown. He teaches why the softball goes high or low or to far inside or to far outside. He teaches that they should not pull the arm straight up but actually across their body more so that they can push hard with the elbow and not to use a straight arm to much and can use the natural flow of the body. He also says that you have to point with the front shoulder so you can position where you want the softball to go. If you keep your front shoulder straight then the softball will go straight but if the shoulder gets out of line then the softball will not go where the pitcher wants it to. He also talks about hiding the ball when pitching so that the coaches cannot see the grip on the ball so the batters will not know what pitch is coming. To hide the softball you just have to just keep the ball in the glove on the side of your hip so that the ball is hidden from both the first and third base coach. When hiding the ball it is less likely for the batter to know what pitch is coming and they can't anticipate the pitch that is coming. He also says not to slap the leg when pitching because it is a timing mechanism for the batter and it makes the batter more likely to time the ball and hit it better. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In part one of Bill Hillhouse's pitching clinic he talks about the basics of pitching and introduces himself and his theories and methods to pitching. You can buy softball bats at http://SoftballJunk.com. Hillhouse talks about that he believes in just simplifying pitching whether it's in women's or men's fastpitch. He says that a softball pitching motion is basically a baseball motion turned upside down in a simpler sense. He says that it doesn't matter what way a softball pitcher starts their motion it only matters that you get to the same position in the end and that you get the same benefit from the position. Hillhouse says that the way a softball player warms up isn't about working the wrist flips or small details but is actually more about the push off the pitching mound and the bend and force that the arm gets in the pitching motion and the position in mid air is strong and is pushing forward to really get the momentum going in the pitch. The better the angle of the bag the runner takes the easier it is to advance a base. Amico also talks about the proper way to get a good lead and how a good lead will help you be quicker on stealing a base and more likely to be safe. She talks about the different footing you can use while leading off and the different advantages of each type. She also talks about pumping your arms opposite of the leg in the air. She says to make sure that your hands and body stays loose and relaxed. She also showed some running drills to feel and make sure that foot pushing off the ground hits hard and pushes hard. She also talks about getting out of the box hard. She says to finish your swing and get out of the box hard and running hard to hit the front of the bag. She really emphasizes hitting the front of the bag and not the back of the bag because you want to hit the closet part of the bag to you so that you can get there as quickly as possible and be safe as many times as possible. She also says that the more you work on hitting the front of the bag the more likely it will be to become natural and you will begin to hit the front of the bag nearly every time. In the long run it will help you win more softball games. To see Leah O'Brien Amico's bio, visit our website http://USAfastpitch.com.
