Is disconnecting still an option?  Being connected is no longer something we think about; it's just something we do, all the time. In this episode, we explore the shift from the internet's early promise to today's constant demand for our attention.  We hear from four people as they navigate the struggle to manage screen time, social media, and the quiet pressure to always stay connected.  Drawing on these stories alongside her own, Suzanne N'Gouandi reflects on the subtle ways our phones affect how we interact with people around us, and why it is so difficult to step away, even when we want to. We also hear from Luke, whose relationship with digital media affected his mental well-being, eventually leading him to become a digital minimalist.   This episode is an invitation to pause, reconsider your time spent online, and reflect on what it truly means to disconnect in an always-connected world.   ----------------  Want to learn Luke's story further ?  Against the current Against the Current: Living Offline in an Online World  https://www.amazon.co.uk/Against-Current-Living-Offline-Online/dp/1789633834  The adventure of a digital outsider  https://www.freewebstore.org/jellybeanbooks/product/the-adventures-of-a-digital-outsider       Music    Connect The Dots TV (2015) Connect the Dots 2015: The Promise of the Internet. September 6. In this episode, I'm sitting down for a real-life Q1 update, because the first few months of this year did not go how I expected, but looking back now, I can see how everything kind of unfolded the way it was supposed to. January was really quiet for my podcast production business, and for the first time in a long time, I started seriously thinking about working outside the house again after being self-employed for 13–14 years. I applied for a job I really wanted and didn't get it, which was disappointing at the time… but as you'll hear in this episode, that ended up redirecting me in a way I couldn't have planned. February brought a bit of a health scare when I found a lump and had to go through a mammogram, ultrasound, and biopsy. Thankfully everything came back benign after they drained fluid, but that whole experience definitely makes you pause and think about life a little differently. Around that same time, I also took about a 40-day break from scrolling and social media apps, and honestly, that might have been one of the most impactful things I did this year. It really clarified for me how much I enjoy the physical world — my town, my routines, my family, real conversations — and how I don't want to live my life primarily online. Then in March, through a friend connection, I ended up interviewing for a job, got an offer, and started in late March. I'm still working with my three long-term podcast clients, but this new chapter has been really grounding and different in a good way. In this episode I also talk about: Some thoughts on the online world and how much of it feels fake and pay-to-play right now Purpose beyond just work and career My concerns with influencers pushing medications and peptides How the fitness industry constantly rebrands the same ideas Why I believe balanced movement and living in sync with your own season matters more than following trends This episode is a little life update, a little rant, a little reflection and as always, thanks for being here and listening.

In Iran, a blackout has now lasted 30 days, on track to become the longest complete internet shutdown ever recorded. So what can people actually do to fight back? The VPN paradox; why the UK wants to restrict teens from using a tool its own government relies on every single day.The UK government wants to restrict VPNs for teens, but it uses them itself. That's the paradox at the heart of a new investigation from TechRadar. The UK is consulting on "Growing Up in the Online World" – which could see consumer VPN apps face age-verification rules, making it harder for teenagers to bypass online checks. But here's the twist: multiple UK government departments and public bodies regularly purchase and use VPN services.  Sam Woodhams, VPN Managing Editor at TechRadar has been investigating. The programme is presented by Ania Lichtarowicz.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/somewhere-on-earth-the-global-tech-podcast--6924871/support.Production manager: Liz TuohyEditor: Ania Lichtarowicz  Somewhere on Earth Productions UK Ltd. A new documentary exposing the online “manosphere” has parents asking a frightening question: What kind of world are our boys growing up in? In this episode, Justin unpacks the disturbing rise of influencers teaching boys that domination, misogyny, and outrage are the path to power—and why millions of young men are being drawn in. But while the content can feel alarming, the solution for parents is surprisingly clear. Justin explains why boys who grow up surrounded by strong values, meaningful relationships, and healthy role models are far less vulnerable to toxic online culture—and what parents can start doing today to build boys who are genuinely strong from the inside out. If you’re raising sons—or daughters who will grow up alongside them—this conversation matters. KEY POINTS What the “manosphere” actually is and why it’s gaining traction How extreme influencers exploit struggling boys for clicks, money, and power Why algorithm-driven outrage pushes toxic ideas to the top The real reason some boys are vulnerable to this contentHow strong male role models dramatically reduce the influence of toxic voices Why regular moral conversations at home build resilient kids The true definition of healthy masculinity QUOTE OF THE EPISODE “Real strength leaves people feeling safer and stronger. These influencers leave people feeling smaller.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Inside the Manosphere documentary by Louis Theroux Boys: Raising Strong Young Men from the Inside Out by Justin Coulson ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Surround boys with strong role models. Boys need men—and women—who demonstrate integrity, respect, and responsibility. Prioritise connection with dads or mentors. Time together, conversations, and shared activities matter far more than perfection. Talk about character often. Use everyday situations and hypotheticals to discuss values and moral choices. Delay unsupervised internet exposure. The longer kids stay away from algorithm-driven content, the better. Teach healthy masculinity. Real strength means helping the people around you feel safer and stronger. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, Jon sits down with Caleb Altmeyer for an eye-opening and urgent conversation about the realities of online safety, human trafficking, and what it truly takes to protect the people we love. Caleb shares personal stories from the front lines, including the shocking truth about how 80% of human trafficking cases now begin online, the tactics predators use to groom victims, and why the relationships we build at home are the first line of defense.   You'll learn practical strategies every parent needs to know, including monitoring tools, the crucial importance of knowing who your children talk to online, and how deep conversations about value and trust can change lives. Caleb also unpacks the myths and hard facts about sex trafficking in America, If you care about family, community, and making a lasting difference, this powerful episode is a must-listen!   About Caleb, Caleb Altmeyer is the Founder and CEO of Helping Captives, an anti-trafficking organization headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, and Bikers Helping Captives, a motorcycle ministry bringing trafficking awareness and hope to the streets. In 2006, Caleb was an addict, a high school dropout, and unable to hold a job or relationship. But after a life-changing encounter with God in 2007, everything shifted. For over 15 years, he has dedicated his life to ministry and nonprofit leadership—helping over 500 sex trafficking survivors, raising millions to fund Gospel-centered initiatives, and leading thousands into a relationship with Jesus Christ. He has launched successful enterprises for the ministry, including a coffee company, thrift store, and large-scale outreach events. Caleb has also helped provide transitional housing, food distribution to families in need, and the remodeling of a schoolhouse to house trafficking survivors. He's currently working to transform a closed-down strip club into a center for emergency and stabilization care for victims. Caleb is a Christian, husband, father, speaker, and community leader. Have you noticed a shift in how children develop, socialize, and perceive the world around them? Today we discuss the pressing issues raised in Jonathan Haidt's "The Anxious Generation".We explore the profound ways in which the digital age and evolving parenting styles are impacting childhood and adolescence. A key concern is the detrimental impact of screen time on children's visual systems, potentially leading to issues like accommodative spasms and increased nearsightedness. We contrast today's screen-saturated lives with the unstructured outdoor play of previous generations, where children naturally developed crucial social skills such as conflict resolution, turn-taking, and risk assessment.Parental anxiety and a fear of unsupervised play have led to more indoor time and structured activities for children. Ironically, while real-world interactions are often heavily monitored, children are frequently left unsupervised in the digital realm, where they can interact with unknown individuals through games and social platforms. We're well aware that community support in establishing healthy boundaries around screens and outdoor activities is vital. We definitely recommend reading "The Anxious Generation" to gain a deeper understanding of these critical issues and to consider how communities can collectively address the challenges of raising children in the digital age.(00:00) Intro(00:34) "The Anxious Generation" and Its Local Impact(01:39) The Detrimental Effects of Screen Use on Child Development(03:05) From Outdoor Independence to Indoor Safety Concerns(11:23) The Paradox of Overprotection: Real World vs. Online World(16:03) Screen Time: Addiction, Academic Needs, and Finding Balance(20:56) Reclaiming Childhood: Prioritizing Real-World Skills and Unstructured PlayCheck out our Digital Programs4D Built for LifeStart your FREE TRIAL today 4D Built to Read Digital ProgramConcussion RecoveryBuilt to DriveFollow us at 4D Vision Gym on Facebook and Instagram @4dvisiongymvt for the latest news and updates.
