Stephanie Wrobel's HITCHCOCK HOTEL brings 7 friends college friends back together after years of estrangement when one of them opens a Hitchcock themed hotel. Of course, everyone has an axe to grind, and no one wants to end up on the bloody end.
On this episode of Complicated Conversations, we welcome Stephanie Wrobel to discuss her suspenseful new novel, The Hitchcock Hotel, a story about a Hitchcock fanatic with an agenda who invites old friends for a weekend stay at his secluded themed hotel. As the past is revealed, tensions rise, loyalties break down, and chaos ensues. Stephanie chats with Carinn about her inspiration for the book and how she incorporated Hitchcockian elements into the story, her *very cool* approach to writing multiple points of view, the importance of setting in her storytelling, which in this novel includes the creepy hotel and Stephanie's own campus nostalgia. The Hitchcock Hotel is out now - buy it, read it, share it, and listen to our spoiler-free chat wherever you get your podcasts.

The Recovery of Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel. A fun thriller about Rose Gold whose mother Patty insists she is always unwell and constantly seeking medical attention for her – but it's Munchhausen by proxy. When she's found out and put away, Rose Gold starts to rebuild her life but also comes up with a cunning plan ready for when her mother is released. My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell : this was on every list of the most anticipated books of 2020 and has been getting outstanding reviews, though potentially tricky subject. It's about Vanessa, who while at school had a relationship with a teacher and believed herself to be his chosen one – and then some years later learns that another student has accused him of inappropriate behaviour and Vanessa has to come to terms with the fact that she wasn't special, and it wasn't love, and he was a predator. A kind of modern day Lolita. Very well written, both disturbing and thought provoking. The author wrote it over 20 years so it well predates the #MeToo movement, but it's timely.
This week, Emma B is joined by American author Stephanie Wrobel to chat all about her debut novel, The Recovery of Rose Gold. The Recovery of Rose Gold follows the story of mother and daughter Patty and Rose Gold Watts, as they struggle with Rose Gold's mysterious illnesses, a discovery that rocks both their worlds, and what comes after… On this week's episode, the pair chat America vs. the UK, the wild world of Munchausen by Proxy and how to write in great twists and turns.
