Blast off, Goosebuddies! Your hosts Paul Ritchey, Chad Quandt, and Kevin Cole read R.L. Stine's Goosebumps 2000 book Earth Geeks Must Go! It is a 'story' about young boy Jacob Miller who finds himself on an alien planet with strange differences than his own. For example, everyone here eats food with arm pit mouths! Gross! To be honest, it's mostly identical to Earth for some reason. People read books with their tongues; is that spooky? Also there are war crimes committed by sentient bugs. Enjoy the episode! Happy 150th episode, Goosebuddies! If episodes were Pokemon this would be MewTwo, which is a pretty cool thing to be in any comparison. Speaking of mutant monsters, this episode has Chad, Paul, and Kevin reading R.L. Stine's Goosebumps 2000 book Full Moon Fever. We need to be clear: this is not about werewolves! Yes, these beast children are supposedly transformed by the moon and covered in fur and love howling but this is different than lycanthropy! We're stunned by how buck wild this book gets with real stakes, crazy turns, and the potential of eating parents. Is this the best Goosebumps book we've ever read? The Goosebuds Boys Paul, Chad, and Kevin read R.L. Stine's Goosebumps 2000 book Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid. One may argue that title could apply to virtually anything in the Goosebumps bibliography but we got it for this one; a surprisingly meta tale about board games and choose-your-own-adventure books that would make Charlie Kaufman wince. Alex and Jordan set the controls for the heart of the Scholastic Book Fair with a deep-dive on the world-conquering, multi-medium-spanning success of R.L. Stine's Goosebumps! They'll explore literally every job Stine had as a struggling writer before making it big, a brief history of evil ventriloquist dummies and horror icon George A. Romero's sadly unrealized attempt to make a feature film out of the series' first book. Along the way, they'll get way too granular about the work that went into those iconic book covers and the Canadian-produced children's horror-TV rivalry of "Goosebumps" vs. "Are You Afraid of the Dark!" Listeners beware... you're in for a - VERY GOOD TIME. Halloween week is alas here, and we're taking you back to the 90s with the second most popular book series of ALL TIME and the main reason we're all afraid of slickly dressed dummies: R.L. Stine's GOOSEBUMPS. We look at the beginning of R.L Stine from his time in Oklahoma writing joke books to his breakthrough success with books like Fear Street and work on shows like Nickelodeon. But the real meat and potatoes of the episode is spent in the mid-90s, where we chronicle the rise and near fall of Scholastic as they took over book fairs everywhere, and how a little competition from Animorphs almost brought it all down! H. Grimly plans to create a 13th novel that will bring the whole universe together. The series will feature covers by artists from Flavio Greco Paglia and Tim Jacobus. Tim Jacobus is known for his artwork on Goosebumps, Spine Tingles, Bone Chillers, and many more. See below for the covers for the first 2 books.
