Julian Richings (born 30 August 1956) is a British-Canadian character actor, having appeared in over 225 films and television series. He is best known for his appearances in a variety of horror films, including Cube, Wrong Turn, The Witch, Beau is Afraid, Ejecta, and Anything for Jackson, as well as for portraying Death in the dark fantasy series Supernatural. After touring the United States with a British stage production, Richings moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1984. Within five years, he had become a regular on the second season of the War of the Worlds TV series. In the 1996 film Hard Core Logo, he played the bitter, aging, punk rock legend Bucky Haight. He appeared at the opening of the 1997 film Cube.In 1999, he appeared in the science fiction film Thrill Seekers. In 2000, he appeared as Bellanger in The Claim, and earned a Genie Award nomination for best supporting actor. He was a member of the repertory cast of the A&E TV original series A Nero Wolfe Mystery (2001–02). In 2007, Richings played a driver in the film Shoot 'Em Up, a dissipated and aging punk rocker in The Third Eye, transvestite psychologist Dr. Heker in The Tracey Fragments, and a number of small roles in other films, including Skinwalkers and Saw IV. He appeared in the 2008 film The Timekeeper. That year, Richings was nominated for another Dora Award for his performance in The Palace of the End. Richings made an appearance in the 2010 fantasy film adaption Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighting Thief as Charon, the ferryman of Hades.[10] That year, he began a recurring villain role on the horror comedy series Todd and the Book of Pure Evil.[6] From 2010 to 2015, he portrayed Death in the hit dark fantasy series Supernatural. He was also Death in the short film Dave v. Death (2011). She grew up in San Jose, California where she performed on stage at Children's Musical Theater San Jose. She had leading roles in The Wizard of Oz and Bye Bye Birdie, along with being a featured performer in a series of productions. She spent a year of middle school on tour with Annie, where she schooled at the theatre between shows. She was an avid skier and swimmer and had a passion for poetry. Cihi graduated from Presentation High School in San Jose, California in 1984. In 1978, at the age of 12, she was cast in the Broadway Second National Tour of Annie. She played the role of Pepper, the older orphan who bullies Annie, alongside a then unknown Molly Ringwald.[1] The 2nd National Touring Company (sometimes referred to as the West Coast or Los Angeles Production) opened in San Francisco on June 22, 1978. Cihi held the role for a year, before being deemed too tall. Shortly after high school, Cihi landed a job at Tokyo Disney, where she lived and performed for two years. At that time, she performed on the soundtrack of the anime City Hunter. After returning from Japan, she settled in Los Angeles, where she continued to perform in local theatre shows and sang in professional bands. In 1993, she joined the cast of Nickelodeon's Roundhouse for season 3 where she sang the theme song, acted in various sketches and sang several solos. At 18, she was cast as Dick Van Patton's niece in a nationally televised Christmas special, “The Gift of Song”, starring a host of country music stars. Relocating to LA in the early 90's, she studied at the South Coast Repertory and Beverly Hills Playhouse and has starred in countless stage productions all over LA, including "Blue Moon Dancing" by Ed Graczyk, "In the City for the Summer" (Variety singled out her gritty performance), and the farcical, outrageous "And Then There was Nun" which played to sold out houses for 2 extensions, where she did a hilarious sendup of Gloria Swanson. She was a long time member of the Company of Angels, LA's oldest repertory theatre, winning a Dramalogue Award for her saucy, sword-wielding performance in the mainstage production of “Zastrozzi”. She appeared in an iconic video for Weird Al Yankovic, spoofing Tanya Harding in the "Mmmm Mmmm" song (where she did her own figure skating). She appeared in several episodes of "Days of Our Lives" and had a small but pivotal role in "The Landlady" starring Talia Shire. In 2013, she was cast as one of the three leads in a hilarious coming-of-middle-age web series called "Living the Dream", and in 2015, she had the starring role in "Only the Moon Howls", a moving one act which won the Encore! Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Her performance was singled out for its "deep emotional access" and hailed as "heartbreaking", "truthful", "sensitive" and "vulnerable". A film version of the piece is planned for late 2015. In 2001, she landed a plum role, singing for Betty and President Gerald Ford in Palm Springs. Over the years, she has recorded and performed with some of the greatest jazz musicians on the west coast. As an award winning actor, a sci fi nerd, the oldest of 11 children on his mothers side (6 biological / 5 adopted) and the 3rd of 4 children on his fathers side, Rico was born in Seaside/Monterey, CA and raised on the south side of Chicago as well as the San Francisco Bay Area. It was in Chicago where Rico's love for the arts began. As a little boy, his 3rd grade class went to a touring performance of The Wiz, starring Stephanie Mills. Even at that early age, Rico sat there mesmerized and amazed at the performances. Memories from that performance stuck in the back of his mind and would not surface until a few years later when his family moved to Berkeley, California. The bug bit again and Rico started performing in several plays and Independent films. Rico also majored in Theatre Arts at San Francisco State University. Eventually, Rico moved to Los Angeles and has been blessed to have many film, television, voice over and theatre credits to his name. Throughout his career, he has produced over 1,000 concerts, produced over 300 consumer shows and has been a collectibles dealer for almost 50 years. He is widely known as an appraiser of collectibles, pop culture items, and toys on the PBS television series Antiques Roadshow. He is iconically recognized by his long gray ponytail, and preference of Aloha shirts and orange Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers. Gary's current project is Beasties: A Sci-Fi Rock Opera. He lived in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Massapequa, Long Island, New York by the time he was 13 years old, and was bar mitzvahed in Brooklyn. He attained his love of collecting from his father, who collected campaign buttons. At the age of eight years old, he began selling his toys at garage sales, and took an interest in learning the relevance and history of the items, realizing he could one day make a business out of buying and selling pop culture collectibles. Gary opened his first collectibles shop, Madcity Music Exchange, selling records and music memorabilia in 1974 in Madison, Wisconsin. He sold the shop to his long time employee in 1983, and Madcity Music is still open today after over 40 years. Moving to Massachusetts, he opened Wex Rex Emporium of Popular Cultural Artifacts store in downtown Hudson, MA in 1984. He offered records, antique and collectible toys, movie and TV memorabilia, posters and other pop culture items. Gary started appearing on talk radio beginning in 1985, on WBZ-AM with David Brudnoy. He was doing what Brudnoy deemed “psychic appraisals,” since Gary couldn't see the object people called in to learn about. Randy West was inspired and mentored into a career in broadcasting by legendary television announcer Johnny Olson. Armed with Johnny's classic sensibilities and professionalism, Randy was first behind radio microphones while still in his teens in suburban New York City. Once he earned his B.A. degree, Randy cast his fates to the radio airwaves on a coast-to-coast journey that eventually led to KMGG -“Magic 106” in Los Angeles. It was his stepping stone to television announcing. She is one of five children, all of whom were involved in acting or music. She started as a child actor in the early 1970s performing in local theatre companies in the Pasadena area. At age six, she appeared in her first commercial for Mama Celeste Pizza. Patts attended Pasadena Alternative School and, while a student, was appointed to a student trustee's position on the Pasadena Board of Education. In 1977, Norman Lear was casting for a new version of The Little Rascals. Patts had originally auditioned for the role of Darla, but since she wasn't the Darla type, they wrote in a new role for her; Rocky. That year she also had a small role in the short lived TV show, A Year at the Top.In 1978, she auditioned, along with 2,000 other girls, for a role in the Los Angeles touring production of Annie. She won the title role and went on to play the part in San Francisco and Los Angeles between 1978 and 1979. At the same time, she was also the voice of Peppermint Patty for the Peanuts cartoons. Patts went on to work on a number of television shows including Archie Bunker's Place, TV 101, Student Exchange (TV movie), The Judge, KID*S, and A Place to Call Home (TV movie). She also has roles in the films Party Line and For Keeps. In 2013, Patts opened a business called Write Off the Row. In 2017, in anticipation of the 40th Anniversary of the musical Annie, she was invited by Inside Edition to New York to celebrate the musical. She was featured on the news show singing "Something was Missing" from Annie. In 2021, she started attending comic conventions throughout the US as a guest. Diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia (FA) as a child—a rare genetic disorder that often leads to bone marrow failure and cancer-Jonathan was initially identified as a potential bone marrow donor for his brother Anthony, who was also battling FA. However, tests revealed that Jonathan too had the disorder. Between 8th and 9th grade, doctors recommended immediate treatment for Jonathan, including chemotherapy, radiation, and a bone marrow transplant. Astonishingly, Jonathan chose not to pursue any treatment and, at 33 years old, remains healthy and thriving. In the pursuit of his dreams, he dropped out of law school at eighteen and became a working actor soon after. After visiting New York when he was 18 years old, Guile decided that his move to the U.S. could not wait any longer. Arriving in New York a few years later, he encountered all of the numerous obstacles that every actor knows very well. But he faced all roadblocks, determined to build the life he wanted for himself. Eventually he was cast in independent films and Off-Broadway plays. After five years in New York, he moved to Los Angeles. Guile became an American citizen in 2011. Episode Notes S5E41 -- Join us as we dive into the mind of the longest-serving, first-time, non-violent offender in the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the time of his release George "Cowboy" Martorano.. He'll be telling us tales from his botched trial to his 32 years of a life sentence served and much much more. In 1984, on the advice of his attorney Robert Simone, Martorano pleaded guilty to 19 counts of drug possession and distribution. Martorano was subsequently advised by both the prosecution and the judge, John Berne Hannum, that this plea could result in a sentence of life without the possibility of parole. The prosecution, however, had only recommended a sentence of from 40 to 54 months. On September 20, 1984, Martorano was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the longest prison term ever imposed on a first-time non-violent offender in American history. Louis Pichini, a prosecutor with the U.S. Organized Crime Task Force, pressured George Martorano for information on the Philadelphia Mafia. But Martorano has always denied having any detailed knowledge of his father's business dealings. Judge Hannum's excessive sentence was a part of this pressure. Prior to Martorano's sentencing, his trial counsel, Robert Simone, was indicted on tax evasion charges. Again, before sentence was imposed in the Martorano case, Judge Hannum testified as a character witness for Simone. An article appeared in the Philadelphia Daily News criticizing the judge and called his testimony "highly unusual". Martorano stated in subsequent appeals that Judge Hannum should have recused himself from his case prior to imposing sentence. Martorano holds the title of longest-serving, first-time, non-violent offender in federal custody.[1] He claims the sentencing judge gave the unprecedented term to pressure him to inform on his father and other mob bosses.[4] Martorano distinguished himself during his time in federal prison. Smith was also cast in Cyborg 3: The Recycler alongside Malcolm McDowell. Smith appeared in many TV series, such as Diagnosis: Murder, Star Trek: Voyager, Wings and Conan the Adventurer. In 1999, Smith had small roles as guards in Donald Petrie's My Favorite Martian (film) and The X-Files. Smith appeared 18 times in the hit TV show Charmed, where he played Belthazor, The Source, Grimlock and Shax. Also in 2002, he appeared in the hit sequel Men in Black II, where he portrayed the character Creepy. In 2003, Smith was the brother of Bob (Monster Man) in the hit movie Monster Man. Around that time, he appeared in the TV series The O.C. and Desperate Housewives. In 2006, Smith was cast as villain Pluto in the remake of The Hills Have Eyes. In 2007, he played villain Papa Hades in The Hills Have Eyes 2. He also starred in the 2010 horror film Chain Letter, alongside Nikki Reed, and Noah Segan, directed by Deon Taylor. Nearly two dozen investors were duped by a salesman's “wildly optimistic” promises about a Cannabis “theme park” in Alaska, according to federal prosecutors. The Biden administration will move Tuesday to reclassify marijuana as a lower-risk substance, a historic move that acknowledges the medical benefits of the long-criminalized drug and carries broad implications for cannabis-related research and the industry at large. The US Department of Justice is expected to recommend that marijuana be rescheduled as a Schedule III controlled substance, a classification shared by prescription drugs such as ketamine and Tylenol with codeine. “The DOJ continues to work on this rule. We have no further comment at this time,” an administration official said Tuesday. Multistate cannabis company MedMen™ leaves the industry by filing bankruptcy proceedings in Canada with about $411 million in liabilities. MedMen™ announced on April 26 that it filed for bankruptcy under Canada's Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act on April 24. The business advisory firm B. Riley Farber Inc. was appointed as the company's bankruptcy trustee. The company also announced that its American subsidiary based in California entered receivership in the Los Angeles Superior Court on April 23 for the organized dissolution and liquidation of its assets.
