How do we locate divinity within our own bodies, and within the ordinariness of our lived experiences? On the latest episode I explore this topic with Kay Louise Aldred, a researcher, writer, and teacher who catalyzes individual, institutional, and collective evolution through education, embodiment, and creativity (and not to worry, we break this all down in this episode). Glenys is the author of "PaGaian Cosmology: Re-inventing Earth-based Goddess Religion, which fuses the indigenous traditions of Old Europe with scientific theory, feminism, and a poetic relationship with place." Trista shares about her lifelong journey of activating sacred feminine power within her and talks about patriarchal conditioning that can live incredibly deep inside our cells and show up in surprising ways, and reminds us of the importance of looking into our shadows and of becoming aware of conditioned patterns in relationships, especially with our children. Trista also describes the birth and evolution of Girl God Books as an alternative to the programming that's been going on for thousands of years by patriarchal religion, and encourages all of us to come together in sacred circle for healing and celebration. Trista Hendren, editor of the fabulous Girl God series and many other books and anthologies returns to VSF today to discuss Medusa, a much maligned heroine of herstory. We'll delve into why we must re-vision and re-claim Medusa's authentic story and archetype. Joan Marler has described Medusa as "the Great Awakener" so we'll explore what she meant by that. We'll look at women's rage and why it's so frightening and so often shut down. Trista will suggest ways we might re-program ourselves and prevent our daughters from the toxic indoctrination most of us have endured.
Trista Hendren, editor of The Girl God series joins me today to discuss The Ressurection of Female Power. We'll start the conversation discussing the questions raised by Amy Bammel Wildin, "What would our world look like if there were a rebirth of reverence for women, in all stages of life? How would we see ourselves if we were to revive the sacred feminine archetype.? Trista and I will discuss how patriarchy "clips our wings" and how women continue to crucify themselves by continuing to give their time and money to patriarchal religions. Trista will explain her belief too many women continue to live in the Underworld, but fail to learn ascension. Mary Daly talked about the "Second Goming" in terms of a new arrival of female presence and we'll chat about if we see that transpiring today and how we can facillitate it.
Trista Hendren is the creator of The Girl God series and a Certified Women's Empowerment Coach with Imagine a Woman International. Trista grew up Christian and studied the Bible very closely. She attended college but was not taken seriously as a theologian. Trista has also identified as an atheist and Muslim for periods of her life before developing her own sense of spirituality. Here's the text of Mary Oliver's beautiful poem "Wild Geese", which Trista references during the interview - you can also listen to Mary Oliver read it (here):WILD GEESE,By Mary OliverYou do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your kneesFor a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your bodylove what it loves.Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.Meanwhile the world goes on.Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rainare moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers.Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,are heading home again.Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —over and over announcing your placein the family of things.
Creator of The Girl God series, Trista Hendren, formerly of Portland, OR, now living in Norway, discusses with me today how to Live Well Despite Capitalist Patriarchy, the title of her new book. Trista and I will delve into how we contribute to our our subordination under Capitalist Patriarchy, how we can break free and the irony of many of us not getting paid for feminist work. Out chat will include discussion of self-care for women, how to demand more in their relationships, and how we might create true Sisterhood despite our wounds. The Equal Pay Act will be a topic, as will how living in Norway has shaped Trista's views in terms of what is possible in other countries.
Trista Hendren is the founder, author, and publisher of The Girl God series. A Portland, Oregon native, she lives in Bergen, Norway with her family. She and Dr. Valerie speak about how women can raise the bar on their value and resetting their worth, how important not settling for a partner is, and how accepting that higher level of love can initially be uncomfortable for women raised within patriarchy. They also talk about reclaiming the divine feminine to heal previous and future generations and how more conscious parenting can help to end inherited trauma in our daughters. In this week's pod Kelly talks with POWERHOUSE author and creator Trista Hendren about her latest book, “How to Live Well Despite Capitalist Patriarchy”! It’s a great convo between two women who are figuring out how to resist and change the status quo while honouring their woman-selves in a world that tells them what and who they should be. We bet you'll learn something about how to heal, understand and care for yourself better! Excerpt from the book: “Capitalist Patriarchy sucks for women. We are taught to blame ourselves incessantly for everything that is wrong in our lives—without looking at the bigger picture of structural inequality at play. My hope is that as more women begin to wake up and share with each other, we will heal ourselves and weave our way out of this hellish maze together. Capitalist Patriarchy thrives when women shut up and do as they are told. While it would appear (for some of us at least) that if we play by the rules, we will be safe—those of us who begin to rock the boat with our questioning and refusal to STFU know how easy it is to be thrown off the boat altogether—children and all. This book will serve as a starting point to challenge some of our societal assumptions, in hopes of helping women become stronger and breaking their chains. As we begin to heal collectively, we can overturn this system altogether.” Here’s the link for Trista’s book: http://www.thegirlgod.com/livewell.php For daily inspiration and motivation follow Strong Women Co on Facebook and Instagram: www.facebook.com/StrongWomenCo www.instagram.com/strongwomenco To join our FREE online Tribe: www.facebook.com/groups/SWCTribe No feature song this week but the songs will be back!
