In this episode, I'm wrapping up my Goddess series by diving into the world of the Modern Goddess—what she meant to our Neolithic ancestors and how she still lives in us today. Inspired by my journey through Old Europe and the work of archeomythologist Marija Gimbutas, I explore goddess-worshiping cultures and the rich symbolism they left behind—like the snake, the egg, and sacred water—as guides for understanding cycles of life, death, fertility, rest, and regeneration. But this isn't just a look at ancient history. I share practical, grounded ways to embody the goddess in your daily life today—through community care, seasonal and cyclical living, everyday rituals, and even the herbal allies I keep close (sometimes literally in my pockets!). If you're longing to reconnect with the Earth, slow down, and live in a more regenerative rhythm, this episode is an invitation to awaken the goddess within and bring her spirit into the heart of your modern life.

In this episode, I explore ancient perspectives on death through the lens of the Goddess—especially as she was honored in Neolithic cultures. We'll journey into the cave as a sacred womb and tomb, examine burial practices, and consider the powerful symbolism of figurines, bees, butterflies, and the 'stiff white lady'—all expressions of transformation and regeneration. These stories remind us that death was once seen not as an end, but as part of a cycle of renewal. I also share the herbal wisdom of lemon balm, a plant long associated with the Goddess and healing rituals, and how we can use it today as an ally in our own times of transition and rebirth.———— MY ONLINE COURSES

In this video, I explore the ancient presence of the Snake Goddess in Old Europe, drawing from the work of Maria Gimbutas and her groundbreaking book The Language of the Goddess. I share images of Neolithic goddess figurines—dating from around the 10th to 8th century BC—and point out the hidden or stylized snake forms that appear on these sacred sculptures. Together, we look at how these images symbolized regeneration, rebirth, and deep ancestral connection, linking the snake to the underworld and to the living earth beneath our feet.I also talk about the beautiful relationship between the snake and the bird—how one connects to the sky above and the other to the depths below—and how this polarity shows up in ancient iconography. We travel from the deep past into the folk traditions of Romania, where the house snake is seen as a guardian spirit, a bringer of happiness, and a vital force that keeps the energy of a home flowing. To anchor these symbols into everyday life, I share how mint and mint family plants can be used to connect with this sacred serpent energy. From their growth along stream banks—where snakes often dwell—to their uplifting, clarifying presence in the home, mint helps us reconnect with the snake's wisdom and keep our inner and outer spaces fresh, alive, and protected.————2025 HERBAL FOUNDATIONS APPRENTICESHIP

In this video, I dive into the groundbreaking work of Marija Gimbutas, an incredible archaeologist and anthropologist who dedicated her life to studying goddess imagery in the archaeological sites of Old Europe. Through her research, she uncovered over 20,000 representations of the goddess and documented a matriarchal culture that thrived between 10,000 BCE and 2,000 BCE—one deeply rooted in the worship of the earth goddess and the female form as the central spiritual figure. This episode lays the foundation for a new series where I'll explore the ancient symbols found on architecture, vases, pottery, and art—many of which Gimbutas identified in her studies. In this first installment, we'll focus on the egg as a symbol of creation, fertility, and the generative power of the goddess. I'll share ways you can work with this symbol to tap into your own creative potential, including artistic practices and gardening rituals.I hope this series inspires you and offers meaningful ways to connect with the wisdom of the ancestors and the sacred symbols of the old world. To listen to more about the work of Marija Gimbutas from my episode "Plants, Politics & Power: How to Take Action & Create Change click here: https://youtu.be/qPqpfeLfa2k?feature=shared————2025 HERBAL FOUNDATIONS APPRENTICESHIP

In this episode I share some of my findings on the mythology of matriarchies. I share some insights from late activist Russell Means (Lakota tribe) and some work from late Lithuanian Archeologist and anthropologist Marija Gimbutas. people throw around the words matriarchy and patriarchy these days without really defining what their intention is and how they ‘should' function. I think it's interesting to dive into what these really mean. True matriarchies as in societies ‘ruled by mothers' have been written about by numerous scholars and writers and they all revolve around similar themes and attributes. While there's a deeply beautiful reverence for motherhood within the mythology and literature, it leaves out men in a big way that is harmful.Listen for insights about how ‘mother' tribes are described? What were the politics and social structures in those tribes? What was missing? How do we honor and appreciate the father? Are men innately driven towards warrior-ship?

Mallory is the author of In Search of the Indo-Europeans: Language, Archaeology, and Myth, The Oxford Introduction to Proto-Indo-European and the Proto-Indo-European World and The Tarim Mummies: Ancient China and the Mystery of the Earliest Peoples from the West. He is also a retired professor from Queen's University Belfast in Northern Ireland. An archaeologist who trained under Marija Gimbutas, Mallory has long used linguistics to complement his disciplinary training in archaeology to understand the origin and location of Indo-European languages. Though Mallory admires The Genetic Origin of the Indo-Europeans, he still thinks more work needs to be done to pinpoint the original homeland of the Yamnaya or their ancestors. The fact is that the preprint remains somewhat vague in its final conclusion, and more work is needed to make sure the populace acquires the same level of community. Mallory also discusses the challenges inherent in interdisciplinary work, synthesizing archaeology, linguistics and now genetics. He believes that a key to grasping the emergence of pre/proto-Indo-European is tracing lineage groups through their Y chromosomes, as the genetics, mythology and anthropology indicate that pre/proto-Indo-Europeans were quite patriarchal and patrilineal. Though Mallory is hopeful that we are making progress on the topic of Indo-Europeans he worries that the fraught situation of disciplinary rivalries will retard synergy, where archaeogenetics engages in excessive imperialism vis-a-vis archaeology and linguistics.

Looking back through the corridors of history illuminates that though these cultural changes often happen slowly and imperceptibly over hundreds of years, others occur swiftly and intentionally. Seeing these changes in how God has been perceived across the ages gives rise to the hope that one day a female deity will be revered as all-powerful once again, or perhaps even a more insclusive conception of God could materialize. So much of the stories we tell of who we are have been told by men who have a certain view of the inevitability of patriarchy as the only system that we know throughout the world, ascribing an inevitability about it that is inaccurate and untrue. There have been multiple theories on how the patriarchy emerged in society and ultimately, we'll never completely know as it predates written records. However, a Lithuanian archaeologist by the name of Marija Gimbutas theorized that in the Paleolithic period when the Judeo-Christian patriarchy emerged, a group of Kurgans who are warring men came down from the steps of Russia. At a time of ecological and environmental movement, these primarily warring men came and enslaved people, women, children, marking the start of patriarchy. Marija was destroyed by this theory but was proven to be correct years later. For Elise, she sees that there's a standard of perfection, especially for people like Marija. Men and women are constantly in debates about nature and culture, conflating the two and creating these ideas about what it truly means to be a man or a woman. With anthropologists, they can be either right or wrong about history but for Elise, we cannot move forward without having these conversations. Elise Loehnen is an American author, editor, and content strategist, best known for her work as the Chief Content Officer at Goop, a wellness and lifestyle brand founded by Gwyneth Paltrow. Glenys is the author of "PaGaian Cosmology: Re-inventing Earth-based Goddess Religion, which fuses the indigenous traditions of Old Europe with scientific theory, feminism, and a poetic relationship with place." This book was an outcome of her doctoral work in Social Ecology. Her newest book is "A Poiesis of the Creative Cosmos: Celebrating Her within PaGaian Sacred Ceremony," which synthesizes much of her work over the years. On today's episode we discuss:* Glenys' spiritual background, including her conversion to Catholicism in her teens, as well as her growing disillusionment with Christianity*  The "a-ha" moment that occurred when she realized, pregnant and unmarried, that knowing a female deity would allow her to view her situation without shame* What "PaGaian cosmology" means, including how it combines pagan spirituality with scientific theory to give us a new way to recognize and honor Her (the Goddess) as creative life force* Why it's important that we recognize the inherent power in language and the naming of things and life experiences  * How honoring the equinoxes, solstice and cross-quarter days found on the pagan Wheel of the Year can bring us closer to the Sacred Feminine and provides an opportunity to consciously participate in the creative dance of the cosmosShow Notes If you'd like to know whose ancestral tribal lands you currently reside on, you can look up your address here: https://native-land.ca/My book, “Home to Her: Walking the Transformative Path of the Sacred Feminine,” is now available Womancraft Publishing! Ever since Sylvia was a little girl, she's always read and written stories and was very drawn to old myths and ancient cultures, almost wanting to embody them through her writing as her way into them. For the longest time, she considered her writing fantasy, separated from her sense of embodied participation with the Earth and with life along with a fear to connect these two worlds. However, her writing became her intuitive channel as it opened her process and molded her 20s slowly as she studied animal tracking, wanting to reflect the land around her from a more than human perspective. Animal tracking taught her this language to listen deeply into the land that she was in. As she continued her studies, things started to weave in intuitively as it does with creative work to a place that she couldn't really articulate or speak to. Unfortunately (or rather fortunately), a painful experience called her to the island of Crete, opening her consciousness of her own relationship to her intuition, connecting something, and initiating her process of remembering.   Sylvia Linsteadt is a writer, artist, and certified animal tracker. She has authored books such as “Our Lady of the Dark Country”, the award-nominated middle grade fantasy duology “The Wild Folk” and “The Wild Folk Rising”, the novel “Tatterdemalion”, and an award-winning collection of essays entitled “Lost Worlds of the San Francisco Bay Area”. One midrash tradition attributed the universal flood to the polygyny and patriarchy of the ancient world, which was first documented in the Hebrew scriptures with Lemekh's wives, Adah and Zillah (Gen. 4:19). In this episode, Father Jayme transports listeners back in time, to our worship of the Great Mother Goddess of fertility and sustenance for some 35,000 years. The nascent patriarchy of the Agricultural Revolution then marginalized the “hidden” and “absent” women in scriptures. Drawing on the works of Diarmuid Ó Murchú and Marija Gimbutas, Father Jayme notes how new notions of warfare and conquest led to the creation of a new god in human image: the conquering LORD God of hosts! Father Jayme shares: “Like Cain, the Kurgan warrior spirituality conquered, putting other spiritualities to the sword and casting the long shadow of patriarchy over the land.” Thus, the quick transition in Genesis 6 from the “sons of God” dominating the “daughters of humanity,” to God's regret that God had created humankind. Ideas of polygyny persisted, and men in the ancient world felt the right to possess sex-object wives in addition to their childbearing wives. The situation was compounded by societal structures that valued sons over daughters, viewing sons as gain and daughters as loss. Father Jayme concludes that continued sexism and patriarchy, expressed in our domination of others and of Mother Earth, have set in motion forces that may be no less destructive than the universal flood in the days of Naamah & Noach.Have you seen the latest issue of Extraordinary Catholics magazine?Check out other podcasts by and for Inclusive Catholics!Support Extraordinary Catholics podcast!

James P. Mallory received in Ph.D. in Indo-European studies from UCLA in 1975 under the supervision of Marija Gimbutas. He is the author of In Search of Indo-Europeans, The Origins of the Irish, and The Tarim Mummies, and an emeritus professor at Queen's University Belfast. Mallory devoted much of his career to understanding the origins of the Indo-Europeans. Over the first 30 minutes of he gives a magisterial overview of the question, the field, and where we are now. Mallory begins in the 18th century, proceeds through the 19th and 20th centuries, before finally arriving in 2015 when he was asked to review Massive migration from the steppe was a source for Indo-European languages in Europe by Nature. The arrival of ancient DNA transformed the whole field within just a few years, vindicating some of Mallory's conjectures and commitments, but leaving others even more clouded. We discuss whether the Hittites and Tocharians remain “mysterious,” and how surprising it was that the Corded Ware were basically Yamnaya despite striking differences in their material culture. Mallory also discusses the nature of data analysis in a field like archaeology, where material culture can transform overnight, and richness (the last Neolithic societies of Europe) can give way to the poverty of remains (the Corded Ware). It turns out most of what we know about the Yamnaya and Corded Ware are from their burials because that's all they left. It's a fascinating and wide-ranging conversation.

"The Goddess refuses to die... She will only fade away for good when we devise an alternative grand history that accounts for large-scale coherences." -- Prof. Richard Lesure, UCLA With those words began an attack on the very truth of matriarchal history. From the halls of American and British academia has come a call to arms to CONSPIRE to deny the archaeological facts that indicate a long period of matriarchal civilization and to eliminate the very discussion of matriarchal existence once and for all. Join us as Vicki Noble sheds light on this important and dangerous development in scholarship and culture and its potential to distort and destroy both the past achievements of women and their future hopes. Ancestral Eyes E21 w/ Dr. Patricia Robin Woodruff, Lemko Bosorka! Dr. Patricia “Robin” Woodruff is a polymath, author, artist and Priestess of Stone Circle Wicca (USA). She is known in Pagan circles as Robin and in Slavic lands as Paraska. Her Lemko heritage from the remote Carpathian mountains started her on a path of intense study of Slavic magic, resulting in her becoming a spirit-initiated Lemko Bosorka (a sort of shamanic witch.) Woodruff has been immersed for four years writing the Roots of Slavic Magic series, while also obtaining her Ph.D. Having read over 4,000 sources on the subject, Woodruff can provide new insights into this ancient religion based on recent archeological discoveries, newly-revealed rituals, word origins and analysis of petroglyphs. Woodruff has found her work aligning with the work of Marija Gimbutas in her cross-cultural studies of Old Europe. The Roots of Slavic Magic series will be starting with a large scholarly tome on the Goddesses and Gods of the Slavs, but because of the size of the work, it will take a bit longer to be released. In the meantime, Woodruff has recently released an easily understandable “shorter" version, Woodruff's Guide to the Slavic Deities. Coming in at 300 pages along with illustrations, it will still give you a thorough understanding of the various titles of Slavic Deities free from the taint of White Supremacy and nationalistic agendas. If you've never heard of Perun, Veles, Mokosh or Zhiva, this is the best place to start. Welcome to this seventh episode of Dior Talks. This podcast series will explore the connections between Creative Director of Women’s collections Maria Grazia Chiuri and contemporary women artists and curators.  In this episode, series host Katy Hessel, a London-based curator, writer and art historian, speaks to Vicki Noble, the iconic and trailblazing proponent of shamanic feminism, the Goddess Movement and the second-wave feminism of the 1970s. For the Dior Cruise 2018 collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri was inspired to collaborate with Noble on an exquisite and mystical series of clothing, accessories and jewelry based on the groundbreaking Motherpeace Tarot cards which she created with Karen Vogel in Berkeley, California in the 1970s. The captivating results were subsequently debuted in a selection of dedicated pop-up stores around the world that had been specially decorated with paintings and hangings featuring arcana from the deck such as ‘The Wheel of Fortune’, ‘The High Priestess’ and ‘The Sun’. Vicki Noble was born in Iowa in 1947 but moved to Berkeley, then the epicenter of the hippy and feminist movements, in 1976, where she met her future collaborator Vogel. Together they created the Motherpeace Tarot deck of cards after being inspired by the contemporary Goddess Movement and the vibrant, radical feminism of the era. In this critical period of feminist development, visual art was extremely important and Noble was a crucial figure in the drive to weave links between the new progressive politics, the occult, mysticism and creativity. In this new episode of Dior Talks we speak to Noble about her extraordinary, surprising and avant-garde career, and about the famous deck of cards which has never been out of production since it was created over four decades ago and which has inspired generations of feminists worldwide. The Marija Gimbutas Memorial Lecture Anatolians on the Move: From Kurgans to Kanesh Petra Goedegebuure Associate Professor of Hittitology Last year Sir Colin Renfrew opened the Marija Gimbutas lecture series acknowledging that she was essentially right when she said that the Proto-Indo-Europeans came from north of the Black Sea and then dispersed east and west. And you may recall that Colin Renfrew originally said that Indo-Europeans came out of Anatolia. So what he did was, acknowledging that she was correct, and he used very recent ancient DNA research that really show that Proto-Indo-Europeans are from the north of the Black Sea, but he left open what happened in Anatolia. So what I want to talk about is the Hittites who are from Anatolia. They are kind of an outlier. We do not know how and when they arrived from north of the Black Sea. And this is what I want to explore. So I want to look at what do the Hittites say themselves about their origins, what legends do they have, what do models—linguistic models of language contact—tell us about what happened in prehistory in Anatolia. And finally I want to incorporate some very very recent ancient DNA research basically published in 2020, so this month, and see if that can bring this a little bit closer to understand how the Hittites arrived in Kanesh. This audio recording was originally presented as an illustrated lecture on Feruary 5, 2020. Many of us, along with Marija Gimbutas, believed her work would eventually be vindicated.  We ARE the cognitive minority, waiting for the rest of the world to catch up to many ideals of the Sacred Feminine, including the work of scholar, Marija Gimbutas.  Tune in tonight as I discuss this wonderful and long awaited development with elders and scholars, Carol Christ and Miriam Robbins Dexter. In the words of Carol, "The disdain with which the work of archaeologist Marija Gimbutas has been held in the field of classics and archaeology was shown to me when I started quietly at a cocktail party at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens that I was interested in her work.  This comment, tentatively offerred, onleashed a tirade from a  young female archaeologist who began shouting at me:  "Her work unscholarly and because it is, it is harder for me and other women scholars in the field to be taken seriously."   (From the Feminism and Religion blog) If you're new to this subject, we'll start at the beginning, briefly discussing Marija's findings and why male dominated academia for so long discredited her work, followed by this new revelation by Lord Colin Renfrew, allied with the British Conservative Party.  We'll discuss the politics of this situation as well as other peripheral areas in which this new revelation will no doubt have a domino effect. You won't want to miss this.  Be sure to tell your friends!  Thanks to Carol Christ for taking to the airwaves for this important discussion.  Certainly a bright spot for us all in a very dark year!

BLOG POST FROM OUR GUEST Never doubt that small groups of committed women can change the world: we did before, we can do it again! — Jean Shinoda Bolen  CREATIVE ACTS OF EXPRESSION—CATALYZED IN CIRCLES BY JEAN SHINODA BOLEN, M.D. I know, as so many of us who are fortunate to be in one know, how supportive a sacred circle can be–as an incubator-womb space in which the courage to be authentically ourselves leads to creative acts of expression. This may include what is usually meant by expressive arts—writing, painting, sculpture, dance, theater, films—or political and personal activism, transforming relationships to others, or changing institutions. Inevitably, perhaps because experiences of the sacred are so deep and deeply personal, creative acts of expression are expressions of awakening that begin with trusting our own feelings and perceptions, of realizing it is up to us to be real and act on the premise that what matters to us, really matters. This is soul knowledge that becomes soul work when we take steps to bring what we know into our personal world and into the world.  At times of crisis, what we do — or not, can tilt a situation in either direction. In the silence of undirected inner reflection, prayer, or meditation, which is an element in this kind of a circle, we tap into a center in ourselves that is also at the center of the circle. In Jung’s psychology, this is the archetype of meaning, the Self.  By meeting as a circle of women, we invite the sacred feminine to come into our midst. This form is archetypal. It connects us to suppressed sources of women’s spiritual power, much as an aquifer lies below the surface until it is tapped into, bubbles up and flows. We tap into an awareness that goes back in time to when divinity was worshipped in many forms, as female, as the Great Mother, Gaia. In the last third of the twentieth century, Merlin Stone’s When God was a Woman got archeological support from Marija Gimbutas and other archeologists who literally dug up evidence.   Scrolls that had been hidden and preserved by the dryness in Egyptian caves near Nag Hammadi, were found in this same period. These became known as the Gnostic Gospels through Elaine Pagels. These early Christian writings were rich in metaphor and included Sophia, the Sacred Feminine.  Gnostic churches were egalitarian rather than hierarchal in form, leadership was shared: who did what—the sermon, communion, greeting newcomers, could be chosen by lot. Everyone was welcome. Women served in all roles. Once the Church at Rome had the power to condemn heresy, the Gnostic Christians were persecuted, its gospels destroyed. Our only knowledge of them came from the church fathers, which systematically had destroyed all previous copies of these gospels. This time, it was different. Circumstances had changed. Through the influence of feminism and the women’s movement, there now were women scholars in all fields including theology. In the United States before the women’s movement, women did not define themselves; men did–using religion as authority. “Women’s spirituality” emerged after women spoke for themselves and about themselves. Only then, did we speak of what we experienced as sacred and what we knew to be spiritual information.  This is gnosis, intuitively felt soul knowledge, it is what we recognize in the marrow of our bones, what our heart recognizes as true for us—and from this insight, true for other humans and for the planet.  Sacred circles support trust in our own perceptions of divinity which can be felt as transcendent spirit or felt in embodied holy moments. This is empowering, especially for women who have been told that God is male, demands obedience, and that women since Eve are the source of evil, when her choice was knowledge of the difference between good and evil. Re-imaging God as other than and more than a male authority, will shake the foundation of patriarchy, which is historically based upon theology and hierarchy to justify having and using power over others. Monotheism has brought us fratricidal wars of religion in Europe during the Middle Ages as well as the current conflicts in the Middle East. Jew, Muslim, Christian — all descend from Abraham, and thus are brothers. Women’s spirituality is in conflict with monotheistic, Abrahamic beliefs based on words attributed to what prophetic men in ages past said God said. Five women friends sitting around a round table began the women’s suffrage movement in 1848, an effort that took seven decades for women to achieve, until women got the right to vote in 1920. Once accomplished, it became a non-issue. Of course women vote! This is what success looks like. This same pattern is seen in the economic and social gains for women by women in the late 1960s and 70s. In consciousness-raising groups, women learned about being stereotyped and stifled. Speaking truth to power emerged as a ringing intention, done through demonstrations, conferences, marches, legal suits, and personal confrontations. The idea of equal rights spread.  Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique was a starting point. Others wrote articles and essays, many were published in Ms. Magazine or in anthologies of women’s writings. Women challenged the invisible assumptions of women’s inferiority and the right of men and male institutions to limit access to education, professions and occupations. The consequences of sexism and the idea of equality brought about a huge cultural change in the United States and influenced the world. That gains are taken for granted is a measure of success. Young women now assume that they have opportunities and rights that women never have had as a gender before, and still do not in many parts of the world. Just like the right to vote, once the perceptions and voices of a critical number of empowered women are heard, what was radical and opposed becomes the new normal. When I wrote The Millionth Circle: How to Change Ourselves and The World as a guide to women’s circles in 1999, the mechanism through which women’s circles with a spiritual center could bring about an end to patriarchy was based upon theoretical biologist Rupert Sheldrake’s work on morphic fields and morphogenesis. The millionth circle like the allegorical hundredth monkey that inspired my title, was a metaphoric number. It was the final one to tip the scales, the one that added to all the rest formed a critical mass, after which a new idea or attitude or behavior becomes accepted. A recent example would be Global Warming, an idea that was resisted and even ridiculed, until almost overnight, a critical number of people accepted it. I was aware that it happened between the hardcover publication of Urgent Message From Mother: Gather the Women, Save the World in 2005 and the paperback edition in 2008. Also pivotal for me, was Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point based on geometrical progression, another way of explaining how evolutionary ideas spread. It’s how a virus spreads or a YouTube video goes viral. It’s like how a snowball starts as the size of a baseball, gathers snow and momentum and as it rolls downhill could become an avalanche. It is what I sense is happening:  there is momentum, circles form easier and easier, and the more there are, the easier it is and the less time it takes for more to form. A circle with a spiritual center provides support for authentic acts of expression, to discern and commit to what I call your “assignment.” Mine is about writing and speaking and spreading the word about circles and assignments. The current vehicle for my message is  Like a Tree: How Women, Trees, and Tree People Can Save the Planet. I call upon mystical activists and Sacred Feminine feminists, the men and women I call “tree people” who feel deep connections to trees and the sacred world. If you find yourself wanting to give back or make a difference and are drawn to the possibility, I suggest that you will recognize an assignment that is yours by three characteristics, by your answers to three questions that only you can answer: One: Is it meaningful — to you?  Two: Will it be fun? If it draws upon your skills and experience, calls on your creativity and if you are in the company of people who share your values and commitment –it will be fun. And three: Is it motivated by love?  In the first half of adult life, parenting can fit this description as can developing an innate talent that will require years of perseverance and discipline, or following a calling into a helping profession. Like Joseph Campbell’s “Follow your bliss.” it does not mean that this will be easy, or that you will be successful or that others will understand. It is however, living your personal myth, which we do through the choices we make. Heed the Goethe quote that begins, “Whatever you can do or dream you can do, begin it now!” Once you make a heart commitment to take up an assignment or sacred mission, a trustworthy circle provides spiritual and emotional support. In circle, what is meaningful is important. Prayers are requested. Gratitude expressed. Often a candle is placed in the center. With or without awareness, the sacred feminine is represented by it. For this is a symbol of Hestia the Greek Goddess of the Hearth and Temple, who was present in the fire at the center of a round hearth; her fire was the source of light, warmth and nourishment.  In women’s circles such as these, we are catalysts, witnesses, and midwives for each other’s growth and path of individuation. Meanwhile, the world is now in crisis—danger and opportunity exist side by side.  There are more than 6.7 billion of us on the planet, doubling since 1960, adding about 78 million every year. For all the concern about sustainability and global warming, left out of the solution is the need for reproductive rights for all women, and universal education that includes girls. Conflicts that could escalate into nuclear warfare continue, while political leaders posture and threaten each other. Conflict resolution knowledge and women are notably not brought to the table, at a time when growing numbers of us and weapons of mass destruction could make this beautiful planet uninhabitable. Demonstrations for democracy and social justice, a resurgence of feminism, research support that humans are born good and that meditation changes brain patterns, and at the quantum physics level, we are all one suggest the potential for evolutionary change. It depends upon what we do. It would be fair to say that whether matters will get better or much worse will be decided in our lifetime. I take to heart, the Dalai Lama’s words at the Vancouver Peace conference in 2009, when he said that it is up to Western women to save the world. I’d expand “western” to mean everywoman anywhere who has been liberated by the women’s movement to define herself by the choices she makes. Western women are the beneficiaries of education, responsibilities, authority, opportunities, democracy, medical advances, and reproductive choice that women have never had in history. As members of the female gender, women respond to stress differently than men, and have empathic, collaborative and communication abilities that to contribute to decision making and conflict resolution. When women’s maternal concerns for their children extend to all children, when women have an equal say with men in making decisions at every level, when women’s ability to look after others and budget limited resources is valued, then peace and a sustainable world will be possible. Never doubt that small groups of committed women can change the world:  we did before, we can do it again! At the top of the hour, join us as Mary Mackey discusses Recreating the Rituals of the Goddess....inspired by the research and writings of Marija Gimbutas, Mackey wrote three novels that make the Goddess-worshiping cultures of Old Europe come to life.  In the absence of written records, Mackey imagined the songs, prayers and rituals of Goddess worship - as all of us must trust ourselves to do as we rebirth the Great She in our time.  Mary made these recreations as accurate as possible using ritual objects found at sacred sites and drawing on the best scholarship and theories available. In part two of the show, elder priestess, Foundress of the Goddess Temple in Oregon,  VajraMa discusses the Fourth Wave of Feminism - Embodied Spirituality giving rise to "More than a Grassroots Revolution: A Womb-Roots Evolution"   Vajra says the fourth wave of feminism is a call for a fusion of political and spiritual values, but believes this is just too safe and tries not to rock the boat.  Vajra Ma maintains that the spiritual story or religious myth of a culture determines its politics, law, social fabric and instutitions and that spirituality trumps politics and most of all:  that humanity's original spirituality is based in the female body.  Vajra Ma believes the Fourth Wave of Feminism is fully embodied spirituality giving rise to a newly restored societal fabric and that is our only hope.
