After demonizing and sexualizing women's shoulders for almost two centuries, the Mormon church recently altered its garments for women to allow the showing of women's shoulders. Today a panel of Mormon women discuss the changes.
This week's guest is the very definition of thriving solo. Cindy Gallop is a trailblazer for single, child-free living. She's torn up the rule book, rejected outdated societal expectations, and actively celebrates her solo life. She's also someone who is open about the fun she's having as an older woman dating younger men casually for sex – a trend she says is the relationship model of the future. In this episode, she talks to Jill about why she loves being unmarried and child-free and the liberation she finds in her own company. An entrepreneur and a social disruptor, Cindy describes herself as the ‘Michael Bay of business' because she likes to blow things up. As the founder and CEO of MakeLoveNotPorn, Cindy's visionary reimagining of the porn industry has challenged misogynistic and unrealistic depictions of sex. It's a movement that promotes healthy, consensual and authentic sexual behaviour that empowers women and prioritises connection and open communication. Cindy also talks about her unique perspective on ageing and loving her body, and how she's living life unapologetically on her own terms. This episode is a recording of my invited paper presentation to the Ecstatic Naturalism Circle. Thinking in terms of "The Humanism Spectrum" makes discussing the relationship between humans and technology lucid, consistent, and coherent. The logic of The Humanism Spectrum makes it very easy to understand and think about concepts like "Post-Humanism" and the relation between human and artificial intelligence. . Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for February 9, 2025 is: ecstatic ek-STAT-ik adjective Someone described as ecstatic is very happy or excited; the person feels or shows ecstasy—that is, rapturous delight. // Greta and Sam were ecstatic when their daughter called to tell them that they were soon going to be grandparents. See the entry > Examples: “... through reading, through reporting, I begin to comprehend a truth. That moment of comprehension is ecstatic. Writing and rewriting is the attempt to communicate not just a truth but the ecstasy of a truth. It is not enough for me to convince the reader of my argument; I want them to feel that same private joy that I feel alone.” — Ta-Nehisi Coates, The Message, 2024 Did you know? If you feel like “a hot air balloon that could go to space” or, perhaps, “like a room without a roof,” you might—with all due respect to Pharrell Williams—be not just happy but ecstatic. In other words: euphoric, over the moon, positively brimming with joy or excitement. Ecstatic has been used in English since the late 1500s, arriving (via Medieval Latin) from the Greek adjective ekstatikós meaning, among other things “out of one's senses.” Ekstatikós, in turn, was formed in part from eksta-, the stem of such verbs as existánai, “to displace or confound,” and exístasthai “to be astonished or lose consciousness.” That seems an appropriate history for a word that can describe someone who is nearly out of their mind with intense emotion. Eksta-, it should be noted, also contributed to the Greek noun ékstasis, meaning “astonishment” or “trance,” which led to ecstasy (the English word, of course, not the universal feeling).

At the beginning of his Cincinnati Bengals career, linebacker Logan Wilson was connected with the new Bengals defensive coordinator, Al Golden. Golden, the Bengals' linebackers coach at the time, scouted and worked out Wilson before the 2020 NFL Draft when the Bengals selected the Wyoming product in the third round with the 65th pick. After two starting assignments as a rookie, Wilson was named the starting middle linebacker heading into his second season. He played a significant role in the team's playoff wins, becoming AFC Champions and earning a spot in the Super Bowl. With Golden leaving after the Super Bowl for the defensive coordinator position at the University of Notre Dame, Wilson had to adapt to a new linebackers coach. Now, the coach who played a major role in his joining the Bengals has Wilson ecstatic about his return as defensive coordinator. In this episode of In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, Logan Wilson talks about his excitement about Al Golden's return, the latest on how his rehab is going, and new linebackers coach Mike Hodges.

What a great way to start off the new year! Jumping right in with this excellent mix from friend of the show, Andy McNeill. Andy records as Maple Mountain Sunburst and he released a wonderful album last year - https://maplemountainsunburst.bandcamp.com/album/ecstatic He also did a guest mix for us last year which you can find here - Mixcloud & Low Light Mixes Blog. My favorite discovery in this mix is the third track, "My Dog's Eyes" by Zammuto. I am blown away each time I hear it. One of my favorite track of 2024 is also included in the mix - Andy's own "Pop-a-matic." So good! The rest of the mix a great as well. Here's what Andy says about his latest creation: "Cycles, patterns and joy in repetition. I'll paraphrase redditer Waves_of_awesome who said strongly repetitive music has the ability to transport the listener to a meditative state. “… repeating passages echo like a mantra, almost hypnotizing you”. It's a fundamental yet unpremeditated element in my musical endeavours. A lot of different genres represented here — not really intentionally, I just wanted to include some favourites and influential tracks. But wait where's O Superman? It's Gonna Rain? I guess we'll have to do a part two. I hope you all enjoy the journey." - Andy >>>Links to all the music used in this mix

This is one of the most interesting piano sonatas of the early 20th century. Scriabin pushes the boundaries both in musical expression, harmonic coherence and structural integration in this amazing work, so full of life and creative spirit. It's also nice to be able to do a substantial analysis play-through when I have the music in my hands, since I've just recorded it for my upcoming solo album Scriabiniana! Welcome to the Celestial Insights Podcast, the show that brings the stars down to Earth! Each week, astrologer, coach, and intuitive Celeste Brooks of Astrology by Celeste will be your guide. Her website is astrologybyceleste.com.
To know something of Mā Kālī, we have to know something of Her saints, those luminaries who like moths into a flame plunged into ecstasy of love for Mā and as such have become one with Her. As it says in John 14:16, "none can see the Mother except by the way of the child!"Of course, Mā's most ecstatic child is Ramakrishna. In our community, we talk a lot about Ramakrishna and about his ecstatic love for Kali and we of course talk a lot about Sarada Devi and Vivekananda too who were themselves great devotees of Kali. Last year, during Śyāmā Kālī Pūjā, we gave an inspiring lecture on Ramprasad which you can watch here. But while we know something of Ramakrishna, Ramprasad, Vivekananda, Sarada, we might not know very much about the other ecstatic saints of Kali like Kamalakanta, Raja Ramakrishna (a different Ramakrishna) and Vama Khepa who are actually quite unknown outside of Bengal. So to inspire you to worship Kali with fervor and intensity, in this lecture, we read a few passages from Usha Harding's book "Kali: The Black Goddess of Dakshineshwar" which introduce us to Mā's saints and the ecstatic and wild lives that they lived!May we have even one fraction of their divine inebriation! Jai Mā!Oh! PS: there are some really beautiful black and white 1950s Bengali films about these ecstatic saints. I fell in love with the music of Andy McNeill, who records as Maple Mountain Sunburst, back in 2010 with the release of the album The Maple Mountain Sunburst Triolian Orchestra. Combining a wide variety of instrumentation, electronics, loops and samples to create a unique album and listening experience. The album was one of my favorites of 2010. When I found out that, after a long hiatus, there was new album this year, I was totally hyped. The new recording, Ecstatic, is everything I'd hoped for. Described by Andy as “Instrumental electronic ambient with loops and chopped samples, old keyboards, guitars, and found voices. The vibe is heartwarming, blissed-out, and euphoric; a balm for turbulent times.” You can find the album here - https://maplemountainsunburst.bandcamp.com/album/ecstatic I was so excited by the new music that I asked Andy to create a mix. He graciously agreed and created multiple mixes. So awesome! This is the first one and it is excellent. I can't stop listening to it. Here's what Andy says abut this mix: "I could say this playlist is about transcendence and something about the physical and spiritual journeys we might take to get there. Or I could just say these are tracks that bring me joy. Some old favourites, some new. I've tried to weave my own material through here in a desperate but determined effort to rise to the level of wonder and beauty in these artists' work."
