POPULARITY
What if the pop culture you loved growing up was quietly teaching you to shrink, perform and turn on other women? In this episode, Pulitzer Prize–nominated journalist Sophie Gilbert joins me to revisit the legacy of the 90s and 2000s — a time that likely shaped how you see yourself & other women. We talk about the toxic version of ‘empowerment' that dominated the era, why so many of us still feel stuck in competition mode and how we can start untangling the stories we were sold.
Saudi Arabia isn't following leadership trends. It's setting them. In Part 2 of this bold and insightful conversation, David Jones (CEO of Mercer Talent Enterprise) returns to explore how Saudi and UAE organisations are reshaping the global leadership narrative — with female leaders rising, young talent accelerating, and cultural shifts driving innovation. This episode is packed with real data, powerful case studies, and grounded advice for HR leaders, executives, and future-focused organisations across the GCC. What we unpack: 1. The Rise of Female Leadership in Saudi → Why female workforce participation surged from 9% to 29% in under a decade → How nationalisation policies are leveling the playing field → The corporate shifts making the biggest impact — from flexible structures to visible sponsorship 2. The Cultural & Economic Ripple Effect → How inclusive leadership is shifting Saudi's global image → Why brands are prioritizing gender-aligned teams to reflect customer power → What Saudi's transformation means for regional benchmarks 3. Building Future-Ready Leaders → The paradoxes modern leaders must navigate → Why followership is just as important as leadership → The surprising innovation potential inside call centres and frontline teams Data + insights you'll remember: ✅Saudi now outpaces India in female workforce growth ✅Innovation scores are often highest in frontline staff ✅Gen Z talent expects empowered leadership, not micromanagement ✅Many high-potential women are still invisible without structured assessments Tools & strategies covered: ✅ Thriving Index – uncover strengths + traits that drive workplace performance ✅ Element X – benchmark well-being at individual and org-wide levels ✅ Lighthouse platform – the "Netflix of assessments" for GCC talent teams ✅ Advice for HR: how to design inclusive pipelines, avoid tokenism, and unlock hidden leaders Books by David Jones: The Future of Assessments Game Changers (female leadership in MENA) Unlocking the Paradox of Plenty

For years, the MRM has been told women live under an oppressive patriarchy that denies them any power or influence. What did anti-suffragettes have to say about that? We'll continue to investigate by reading through and responding to Joe C. Miller's report “Never a fight of women against man: What the textbooks don't say about women's suffrage.” Coming up: “More power without the vote”
The name Hatshepsut has become synonymous with female power in ancient Egypt. But her daughter Neferura has been largely lost and forgotten. In today's episode I will be speaking with Malayna Evans, author of the novel Neferura: The Pharaoh's Daughter in which she tries to recapture the voice of Neferura and the turbulent world she lived in. Listen to my discussion with Malayna as we cover her book, the process of writing about women with very little records left behind, and female bodily autonomy. As Malayna Evan's describes “Peace, it seems, never lasts for women who wield power in the open.“ Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Slam the Gavel welcomes back author, Tim Goldich to the podcast. Tim was last on Season 4; Episodes 32,58,80,120 and 149 and Season 5; Episodes 24 and 48. The last time he was on the podcast we discussed the effects of girls maturing faster than boys and the role of patriarchy in the film, Barbie. Today we discussed why we do not know about Female Power or Female Power equal partnership and why are we so blind to this? On an intuitive level it is believed females have a force of influence in everything. Men don't want to hear about female power or their own vulnerability to it and women don't want to hear about Female Power either. There is a well of insecurity and men and women cling to what they have. We talked about the specter of "blame" and "accountability," in depth. Both sexes have a choice and are responsible for the outcome. Accountability tastes bad, but it is good for us, but both sexes want to evade accountability. It's where the ego's are invested. We talked about the Salem Witch Trials where females turned on females. Intrasex hostility was discussed the issue where men's hostility toward other men and women's hostility toward other women. If women are equal partner in the human systems she is equal partner in crime as well. Women have a lot of influence and men and women are equal partners in the human systems and equal role of forces of influence and equally responsible for outcomes. that's how Gender Equalists look at it. They discuss our moral emotions – shame, contempt, disgust, abjection – and what they signal; the ideological ranking of bodies into specific hierarchies, the contingencies of when and how fatness has been valued, and the historical links between contemporary fatphobia and anti-Blackness; how discourse around fatness involves logics of scapegoating, victim-blaming, the mystifications of capitalism, anxieties about pleasure, and fantasies of self-mastery; fat activism and the insights of disability studies; and the necessity of undoing fatphobia as a crucial part of meaningful social change and solidarity.Unshrinking: How to Face Fatphobia comes out January 9, 2024 and is available for pre-order here: https://bookshop.org/p/books/unshrinking-how-to-face-fatphobia-kate-manne/19993688Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny is here: https://bookshop.org/p/books/down-girl-the-logic-of-misogyny-kate-manne/18742539Entitled: How Male Privilege Hurts Women is here: https://bookshop.org/p/books/entitled-how-male-privilege-hurts-women-kate-manne/16881547Kate's Substack, “More to Hate,” is here: https://katemanne.substack.com/Other texts cited include: Julia Kristeva, Powers of HorrorKate Harding, “How Do You Fuck a Fat Woman?” (available in Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Power and a World Without Rape, eds Friedman and Valenti)Kate's book tour dates include:Book launch in Ithaca, NY at Buffalo Street Books on Jan 9thCambridge, MA at Harvard Bookstore on Jan 22thMontclair, NJ at Montclair Public Library on Jan 24thBrooklyn, NY at Community Books on Jan 26thWashington, DC at Politics and Prose on Jan 27thHave you noticed that Freud is back? I am thrilled to share a special concert with you from Rachelle Jeanty, an international singer-songwriter, keynote speaker, and proud HSP. She toured with Celine Dion, has 4 albums, a Ted Talk, and sold-out concerts worldwide. I love that She's a listener on The HSP Podcast, and that's how we connected. We were so honored that She recorded a special concert for us in the Sensitive Empowerment Community, and I wanted to share her voice, gift, and message with HSPs worldwide. She is a wonderful example of using your gifts to share a message to inspire and help others rise. She has such a beautiful voice and spirit and shines brightly. She shares a self-love song, sings affirmations, invites you to join, and shares important messages about listening to your intuition and inner voice. This inspires a path of what is meant for us. You'll hear her mention gratitude for my efforts to acknowledge and help BIPOC HSPs so our HSP BIPOC listeners know I offer scholarships to my courses and community. We also have a special group within the community called Soul Sanctuary for HSPs of color. Let's share this with others and imagine we are all coming together A note while listening…Sometimes, there are some moments of silence where she closes her eyes and connects. I invite you to close your eyes during those moments, too. More about Rachelle… For years, Rachelle has been sharing the space of Spirit and Soul with her voice words, her music and her Joy. After a two-year world tour as back vocalist for Celine Dion, and on the road with many others, Rachelle decided to leave the glamour of the music industry in order to fulfill a deeper purpose: discover, nurture and serve her Higher Self and help guide seekers to this dimension within, through the power of music and of meditation. This 20 year path, carved by many triumphs and great defeats, have brought Rachelle to create and present a TEDx talk about intuition and the crucial role it plays in the navigation towards our best existence. Musically, Rachelle also recorded four albums to her name, performed at the United Nations and has sung with the Vienna Boys Choir. For many years, she offered her ‘'Spirit of Joy'' music & meditation concerts and workshops to hundreds of audiences, in churches, halls and sold out venues of Europe, where she has been living since 2010. Most recently, as her artistry expands, so does her message. Her latest song ‘'BREAK FREE'' is an anthem, a power funk track and a strong message about breaking the invisible chains hindering Feminine Energy and Female Power to be leading forces in this world. Rachelle's TEDx Talk Her latest song ‘'BREAK FREE'' YouTube channels: Spirituality & Meditation Entertainment As you can imagine, Rachelle's schedule is pretty full-on with touring and performing, and we are thrilled for her to record, especially for our community, and make a guest appearance. Rachelle has the most beautiful, soulful voice, and you can hear lots of her music on YouTube and learn more about Rachelle by visiting www.rachellejeanty.com --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/julie-bjelland/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/julie-bjelland/support
