This guy right here remembers walking away from the kitchen table and out into the fresh air, fist pumping as he got into his car because he locked up a $75,000 contract to flip a house with ZERO money. How did that happen? At that point, Matt Aitchison realized you don't necessarily have to have the resources. You've just got to be resourceful enough, surround yourself with the right people, and create certainty by taking action every single day. In this conversation, Erik Cabral speaks with Matt Aitchison, the CEO and the president of Vault Investment Properties. Matt is a business coach, speaker, and the host of a ridiculously successful podcast called The Millionaire Mindcast, a top 100 Business and Lifestyle podcast that focuses on all things Mindset, Money, and Investment Markets to help you unlock a more rich and fulfilling life. As a real estate investor and syndicator, Matt is not new to the real estate industry, having flipped hundreds of houses and built a Top 1000 real estate team in the U.S. His current focus is on raising capital for syndications and scaling his passive income portfolio, which consists of commercial strip centers, hospitality assets, and single-family rentals. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: You don't have to be the smartest guy in the room! His first house-flipping experience Being resourceful over having the resources How to create certainty in your life How to hone your superpower to connect people together The power of tapping into your awareness and feedback Ways to educate yourself about finance About the Millionaire Mindcast Embracing humility and checking in with your ego Episode Highlights: [03:29] Right People & Right Conversations When you can tap into other individuals' experiences, their wisdom, their networks, and their strategies, these can accelerate your life, your business, and your success in terms of becoming a better man. This also gives you the permission to not be good at everything. Surround yourself with people that allow you to be vulnerable, to be open to, to ask questions, whether you feel insecure about them or not. You don't need to know all these things. Find the right people that complement your weaknesses or can fill the gaps. You just need to be around the right people, get in the right circles, right conversations, and right environments, and you will grow into those things. [07:34] How to Create Certainty in Your Life When you don't necessarily have all of the stepping stones and all of the clear paths and points that you feel like you need, when you're uncertain, the best way to create that certainty is just to keep taking action every single day. Even if it's small, over an extended period of time, and you look up and you start to see you've covered a lot of ground. [15:12] Embracing Humility and Letting Go of the Ego Exercise humility over and over every single day. Look for those areas where you can improve. For Matt, most of his failures came from his ego, which he could have avoided. He believes in the power of the pause. There is power in not responding to somebody who's talking trash to you right away and taking five minutes before you send off that email. There's power in taking an extra day or a week or a month to map out a business plan and to do it right. Successful and wealthy people know that money is only a piece of the puzzle. What happens when we strive to build wealth without knowing what our personal life should look like? What impact do people around us have on our mindset? Why is it important to put together a routine for both business and personal tasks? In this clip, Matt Aitchison talks about how he became a 7-figure real estate investor without sacrificing his personal life in the process. Three Things We Learned From This Episode We need to set high standards for ourselves and the people around us When we surround ourselves with people that have lower standards than us, we get dragged down. We have to be clear about what we want from our lives and business, and make room for the people who share our vision. Don’t sacrifice financial success for personal bankruptcy Many agents and team leaders end up getting buried in work. As a result, their family and relationships suffer. Our ambitions should enhance our lives, not take us away from those we love. We have to put together a schedule and a system that allows us to get the best from both worlds. What makes successful people different We all have 24 hours in a day and a pocket full of dreams, but not all of us are willing to put together a schedule that we stick to. Success isn’t all about focusing on the things we love doing, as there will be always something that we dislike about our work. Success is about doing the things we dislike now in order to gather the fruits later. In order to achieve happiness in all facets of life, we have to become more intentional with how we spend our time and whom we spend it with. Before we do that, we have to draw the map. What are our values? What are our priorities? What do we have to say “no” to? There’s no perfect balance, and sometimes we will end up making decisions that go against our priorities. Yet, if we try to live according to our values and priorities, we won’t have many regrets later in life. What you’ll learn about in this episode: Why Matthew believes that real estate is a vehicle to more options that allow him to have a greater fulfillment in his life The three things people are really searching for and how making more money is only one small piece of a much larger equation What the “Mel Gibson freedom” is and how to experience it in your own life and business How Matthew uses direct mail to connect with potential customers and why it is still very much relevant in today’s digital marketing age The reason direct mail reigns supreme for marketing today: it has to do with making the buying audience (Gen Xers, millennials, and baby boomers alike feel more connected to the brand) The other technologies Matthew uses in combination with direct mail to connect with his audience Why a one and done strategy is never enough and you MUST have a method in place, a process to follow-up or your direct mail campaign will be for naught The reason Matthew believes that return mail is far more promising than a return phone call What “touches” are in the cultivation of new customers and why they are so important to businesses and entrepreneurs How many touches it takes before you can set yourself apart from competitors How the response rate for direct mail increases with each follow-up or subsequent mailing and is rarely felt within the first one or two “touches The importance of tracking and why Matthew believes it is critical for helping you make decisions about whether a particular campaign is working or not What Matthew believes is the difference between mom and pop investors and those who are serious about building their businesses Why the “extra” is so important and how it can transform your life Resources: REInvestorSummit.com/Aitchison REInvestorSummit.com/reads REInvestorSummit.com/live REInvestorSummit.com/noteservicing REInvestorSummit.com/100 REInvestorSummit.com/coaching
