We're in the 3rd week of Video Game Movie Month possible TM. This week we decided to mix it up a little bit and instead of talking about a movie based on an actual video game IP we decided to cover a horror movie that revolves around the horror of video games, STAY ALIVE.Before we talk Stay Alive though there's a short film that we need to talk about. As this episode was recorded as a get ahead episode we didn't have access to all the best trailers of week, so we figured that we could talk a short film. After watching the movie Becky (not covered on the podcast) Josh discovered the directors had directed a short film by the name of BOOB. How do you not watch that? Make sure to catch that on Veimo before you listen to this episode. We did talk one trailer though. The Outlaw Johnny Black by the creative team of Black Dynamite. We talk whether or not it can live up to quality that came from their previous endeavor. Most important of all we're here to tell you whether or not Stay Alive is... A BLOODY GOOD FILM!?We encourage everyone to watch along while you listen and make sure to comment and let us know what you think. If you haven't already please follow us on Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram @bloodygoodfilmpodcast and remember...Keep it bloody buddies!!!.....#stayalive #videogames #frankiemuniz #malcominthemiddle #MoviePodcast #Film #Movie #Movies #Action #Horror #ActionFilm #ActionMovie #ActionMovies #HorrorFilm #HorrorFilms #HorrorMovie #HorrorMovies #ActionPodcast #HorrorPodcast #Slasher #80s #80sHorror #NewPodcast

In the final installment of Catching Up On Cinema's Video Game Movie Month, Kyle and Trevor once again invite Kyle's brother Nik to assist them in reviewing John R. Leonetti's, Mortal Kombat Annihilation (1997)! Featuring Robin Shou and Talisa Soto as the only 2 returning cast members from the first film, MK Annihilation is a lackluster sequel that utterly fails to measure up to the charm and visual flair of the original. Overstuffed with lazy and inaccurate renditions of the franchises' core characters, the film is perhaps most noteworthy for it's meme worthy, cringe inducing dialogue, and absolutely horrendous (and overutilized) CGI character animation. Good for a laugh with friends, the film is otherwise without value outside of serving as an early showcase for the talents of future stunt kings Ray Park and JJ Perry.
In this installment of Catching Up On Cinema's Video Game Movie Month, Kyle and Trevor are joined by SteampunkLink and Emmy Zero from the SNEScapades podcast in reviewing Super Mario Bros. (1993)! Directed by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel, the film is the first live-action video game feature film. A historically troubled production, resulting in most of the cast and crew having nothing but awful things to say about the directors, the film is (unsurprisingly) a grossly uneven experience from start to finish. With solid sets and production design, as well as state of the art morphing effects and animatronic puppetry, the film occasionally springs to life on a purely visual level, but ultimately fails to engage. Check out SteampunkLink and Emmy Zero on SNEScapades at HonestPirahna.com , Anchor , or reach out to Link on Twitter @SNEScapades .
In this week's installment of Catching Up On Cinema's Video Game Movie Month, Kyle and Trevor are once again joined by Matt in reviewing Steven E. de Souza's Street Fighter (1994)! An energetic, albeit loose; adaptation of the wildly popular Capcom fighting game series, the film often bears a stronger resemblance to Hasbro's G.I. Joe franchise rather than it's source material. A fairly handsome and surprisingly well structured film in spite of a producer's mandate requiring all 16(!) of the playable characters from the game being featured in it, the movie's legacy finds it resting securely in the "not bad" category of video game films. Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme at the height of his box office appeal (and cocaine habit), and Raul Julia, in his final performance before his untimely death, the film ultimately serves as a poor exhibition of the former's talents, and a memorable and bombastic farewell for the latter.
January 2021 is "Video Game Movie Month" at Catching Up On Cinema! First up this month, Kyle and Trevor are joined by Orion in reviewing Christophe Gans', Silent Hill (2006)! A passion project for the French director, the film is a live-action adaptation of the Konami video game series of the same name. Featuring cinematography, design elements, and even music lifted directly from many of the games, the film is a rare example of a video game movie that goes to great lengths to remain true to its source material.
Ahoy, Motherfuckers! This fucking movie. Can I say fucking? This movie is above and beyond senselessness, and it is up to Brandon and me to decipher it. This is the first of our Video Game Movie Month, and I want my quarter back. Cultural appropriation occurs in every scene. They took a video game with the easiest video game plot ever and make a whole movie that doesn't even begin to reference the game. This movie is wretched in so many ways. This week brings the end of Video Game Movie Month and the first year of Popcorn For Dinner! Jeff and Kelly close out with the 2018 monster movie "Rampage".
As we near the end of Video Game Movie Month, Jeff and Kelly take on the non-stop martial arts action flick "Mortal Kombat". Listen along as they try to work out the plot of a movie that really didn't have the best source material for a story line.
Video Game Movie Month marches on! Listen as Kelly schools Jeff on everything "Assassin's Creed" - and he's gonna need all the help he can get.
Video Game Movie Month rolls into week two with the gritty 2008 movie "Max Payne". Tune in as Jeff and Kelly recount the somewhat confusing plot lines and character development while trying to figure out why there are so many demons in this movie.
Video Game Movie Month kicks off on Popcorn for Dinner with the 2005 sci-fi, action movie "Doom", featuring none other than The Rock. Listen along as Jeff and Kelly try to work through the confusion and disappointment that comes along with viewing this movie.
It’s Round 3 of Video Game Movie Month and Lauren goes for a knock out with Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. As we try to figure out this critical failure of a film, we laugh at the incredibly poor visual effects, Raiden: the God of 90’s Boybands, a score of single scene character cameos, and we compare our opinions of the video game movie genre with our online followers. Music by bensound.com
Level 2 of Video Game Movie Month and Greg has selected to play Doom. For this Sci-Fi, Horror film we discuss unnecessary interplanetary travel, the pitfalls of forcing video game references into a film, awkward first-person sequences, and ask the question; Why was Rosamund Pike set up as Karl Urban’s twin sister? Music by bensound.com
JCVD v Raul Julia kicks off Video Game Movie Month in style. Not a great style, but a style nonetheless, and Andrew tries to impart some knowledge about the game series to complete newcomer Johnny, is it a KO or will Johnny strike back with a well-timed Hadouken?
Steve & Izzy kick off Video Game Movie Month with the first... "Super Mario Bros" starring Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo & Dennis Hopper! They also try some tasty beverages from Devil's Canyon & Lagunitas Brewing. So kick back, grab a few brews, get the princess, and enjoy!
Hot off the heels of Video Game Movie Month, we stumble upon another video game-y film for May - Hardcore Henry! Leo Brady of AMovieGuy.com joins us to talk about this bold, but flawed experiment in making a film mimic the frenetic perspective (and questionable moral center) of FPS games. Check it out along with our custom cocktail and drinking rules! (Thanks to our sponsor Field Notes as part of the Chicago Podcast Coop!)
This week, we finish off Video Game Movie Month Level 2 with the infamous 1994 fighting-game disaster Street Fighter The Movie, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia! Jon Espino of HollywoodChicago.com joins us to talk about the film's troubled history, Bison's muddy plan for world domination, and where all the street fights went. Take a listen and check out our custom cocktail and drinking rules! (Thanks to our sponsor Know Your Company as part of the Chicago Podcast Coop!) Video Game Movie Month continues apace, as Wagnificent Mile blogger (and advocate for Illinois gubernatorial candidate Ameya Pawar) Lauren Faits joins us to talk about 2001's Lara Croft Tomb Raider! Angelina Jolie straps on a tank top, tight shorts and two giant video game-y pistols to track down the Triangle of Light to stop the Illuminati or whatever, with sexy pre-Bond Daniel Craig in tow. Enjoy with our custom cocktail and drinking rules! (Thanks to our sponsor Know Your Company as part of the Chicago Podcast Coop!)
We're continuing VIDEO GAME MOVIE MONTH LVL. 2 with the 2007 film Hitman, starring Timothy Olyphant, Olga Kurylenko, and scores of anonymous Eastern European cannon fodder! Based on the classic stealth action game, Hitman shows us what happens when a production company shits out a lame cash-in on both a video game franchise, Jason Bourne films, and The Transporter. Even worse is poor Olyphant, a normally amazing actor forced to grit his teeth through mealy-mouthed expository dialogue. Find out what we thought along with our custom cocktail and drinking game! (Thanks to our sponsor Know Your Company as part of the Chicago Podcast Coop!)
This week, we take another month-long stab at video game movie adaptations with 2016's Warcraft! Grant of Chip & Ironicus, Sex Archie, Six Feats Under and History Honeys comes back on the show to explore Duncan Jones' ambitious, convoluted adaptation of the popular strategy game/MMO universe. Check it out with our custom cocktail and drinking game! (Thanks to our sponsor Know Your Company as part of the Chicago Podcast Coop!)

Chris and Sean begin Video Game Movie Month with a look at Doom, featuring the highest paid actor in Hollywood, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. It follows The Rock and his crew of space marines as they attempt to quell a demonic invasion in the science base on Mars. It's a generic homage to a better film with aliens and marines but nonetheless a big dumb time.As always, you can follow Chris Stachiw on Twitter at @KultureStach, Sean Liang at @Seannifer and Kulture Shocked at @KultureShocked. It's week three of Video Game Movie Month and we dive arse first into the follow up to 2010's 'Tekken', which is actually a prequel, with 'Tekken 2: Kazuya's Revenge'...as well as a brief news chatter including 'Mallrats 2' and 'The Expendables' TV Series.
For the month of May, we’re kicking off Video Game Movie Month, where every week we take on a new film adaptation of a video game! This week, we (along with guest Ryan Bond) wrap up Video Game Movie Month with the infamous film Super Mario Bros. The Movie! A completely wackadoo adaptation of the Nintendo game series featuring everyone's favorite plumbers, this film sees Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo) becoming lost in a Blade Runner-esque dystopian dimension full of weird fungus, goth-club fashion and trolley/snowplow cars. Lost in a strange middle ground between campy fun and dark/gritty treatment of the material, the film simply doesn't know what to do with itself, and its behind-the-scenes drama is a good enough story on its own. Listen to us dive into this pile of crap with our custom cocktail and drinking rules! (EDITING NOTE: The drink name accidentally got dropped in the 'cast itself, but we have it for you in the recipe below. Sorry about that!)
For the month of May, we’re kicking off Video Game Movie Month, where every week we take on a new film adaptation of a video game! This week, Matt K from CinemaJaw joins us to talk about 1984’s video game-related film Cloak and Dagger! This one’s a bit different, as it’s not so much a video game adaptation as it is a tie-in for a failed Atari video game from the’80s, but we still think it counts. Young Davey (ET’s Henry Thomas) immerses himself in the imaginary world of Cloak and Dagger, only to find himself dealing with a real superspy threat with the help of imaginary hero/dad-figure Jack Flack (Dabney Coleman). Despite – or perhaps because of – its 80s charm, we found a lot to talk about, so check out our episode along with our custom cocktail and drinking rules!
For the month of May, we’re kicking off Video Game Movie Month, where every week we take on a new film adaptation of a video game! This week, we've got a rogue's gallery of guests (from recurring guest Julia to playwright Dusty Wilson, to Grant of Chip and Ironicus) to talk about the 2006 horror game adaptation Silent Hill! When Rose (Radha Mitchell) steals her adopted daughter Sharon (Jodelle Ferland) away to the abandoned town of Silent Hill to try to solve the mystery of her nightmares, they both end up in a hellish Lovecraftian hellscape full of psychological rape monsters, crazy cultists, and more peeling paint than a small-town playground. Does this horror flick live up to the atmosphere of the games, or is it a case study in how poorly video game mechanics and structure translate to the screen? Find out, along with our custom cocktail and drinking rules!
For the month of May, we’re kicking off Video Game Movie Month, where every week we take on a new film adaptation of a video game! This week, we head into space with House-guest Nick Ostrem to talk about the 1999 space-sim adaptation Wing Commander! Based on the 90s space dogfight games of the same name, the film follows the fight to win a deadly future space war between the humans and the Kilrathi, a race of space cats so deadly they live in dense green fog to hide the shoddiness of their rubber suits. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Matthew Lillard play newbie space fighter jocks who must get the job done amongst an international cast who is really too good for the cliched material they are given. Still, there's a strange earnest charm to the film that helps you through it, along with its slightly creative production design and incredibly standout score. This film is infamous for people buying tickets to it just to see the Episode I trailer and walk right back out of the theater – does the film deserve it? Find out while you enjoy our custom cocktail and drinking rules!
For the month of May, we’re kicking off Video Game Movie Month, where every week we take on a new film adaptation of a video game! To get us started, Chris from the Nerd Outcast Podcast joins us for Paul WS Anderson’s debut feature, Mortal Kombat, based on the bloody fighting game of the same name! Telling the tale of three warriors forced to enter a martial arts tournament that will decide the fate of the world, this film is cheesy as hell. However, it goes about its business in a recklessly charming way that allows it to overcome its many faults. Throw in some wonderfully campy performances and some competent fight choreography, and you have a surprisingly solid video game movie. Test your liver’s might with our custom cocktail and drinking rules!
