The second MCU film of the year - Thunderbolts* - has now arrived theaters globally. To be perfectly frank, I was never super excited about this movie prior to the marketing. I was excited by the initial announcement of a Thunderbolts film and Jake Schreier's involvement as director but was quite thrown off by the initial cast announcement. While the Thunderbolts were never really Marvel Comics team that I gravitated towards, I did like a lot of the usual characters included... and seemingly almost none of them were going to be a part of the movie squad. This choice continued a very awkward trend of the MCU trying to distance itself from the very media that allowed it to exist in the first place. I have to say though, props to the marketing team. By the time I was stepping into the theater, I was PUMPED to finally be seeing Thunderbolts*. The trailers have been fantastic, with a few awesome parodies, and even the product tie-ins have been creative (not that tie-ins are exactly a good indication of quality). Did the movie live up to the marketing, or was it as bland as I initially feared?Thunderbolts*Directed by: Jake SchreierStory by: Eric PearsonScreenplay by: Eric Pearson, Joanna CaloProduced by: Kevin FeigeExecutive Producers: Louis D'Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason TamezMusic by: Son LuxDirector of Photography: Andrew Droz PalermoEdited by: Angela M. Ian and Michael from Lord Of Adders Black: A Black mo baadder Podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Ian's choice The Death of Stalin. The Death of Stalin (2017) is a satirical black comedy written and directed by Armando (The Thick of It) Iannucci. In the wake of the death of Joseph Stalin, the remaining members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union bicker and fight over who will succeed him. Its ensemble cast includes Steve Buscemi, Simon Russell Beale, Paddy Considine, Rupert Friend, Jason Isaacs, Olga Kurylenko, Michael Palin, Andrea Riseborough, Dermot Crowley, Paul Chahidi, Adrian McLoughlin, Paul Whitehouse, and Jeffrey Tambor. The Death of Stalin attempts to condense a very complex period of what was then the Soviet Union into 1 hour and 47 minutes with added satirical comedy. Its sheer number of key players adds to its denseness. It's tricky balance of humour and people being shot in the head won't be for everyone and the recommendability scores reflected this. The Death of Stalin scores 4.23 overall. In this episode Larry Gilbert sat down with the multi-talented actor Oliver Trevena, a name synonymous with success in Hollywood, philanthropy, and entrepreneurship. With over 20 years in the entertainment industry, Trevena has seamlessly navigated various roles from acclaimed TV host to award-winning actor, producer, and philanthropist. Trevena's journey in the spotlight began with his charismatic presence as a TV host for major shows like Young Hollywood and The Hollywood Reporter, where he interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment. He's also fronted red carpets for prestigious award shows, including The Grammys and The American Music Awards. But his career didn't stop there. Over the last few years, Trevena has transitioned from hosting to acting, and what a journey it has been. Oliver has starred in over a dozen feature films, sharing the screen with Hollywood heavyweights like Gerard Butler in Plane, Nina Dobrev and Aaron Eckhart in The Bricklayer, and Olga Kurylenko and Harvey Keitel in Paradox Effect, the latter earning him the Breakout Actor Award at the Rome Film Festival. With the recent Toronto Film Festival premiere of The Cut, where he co-stars alongside Orlando Bloom, Trevena's name continues to rise in Hollywood's elite circles. While his acting resume grows, Trevena is also making waves behind the camera. He produced and stars in Another Day in America, which recently hit the festival circuit, and he just wrapped production on Icefall, starring alongside Joel Kinnaman and Danny Huston. Trevena's upcoming projects include two television shows: Beachy Head, which he co-created with Danny Cannon and stars Dougray Scott, and London Son, both of which he is producing with Pulp Fiction producer Lawrence Bender. Beyond Hollywood, Trevena's impact is felt on a global scale through his philanthropic efforts. For over a decade, he's served as an ambassador for Not for Sale, a worldwide organization fighting human trafficking and modern-day slavery. His dedication earned him an award from the Duchess of York. His passion for humanitarian work doesn't stop there—Trevena produced a documentary in India, spotlighting the importance of female education and raising awareness about forced child marriage. Trevena is not just an entertainer; he's also a savvy entrepreneur. As the founder of Ollywood Media, he's built a thriving business centered around investments, production, and brand creation. Recognized as one of the "Top 20 Entrepreneurs to Watch," Trevena has merged his deep connections within the entertainment world with his creative vision to launch global brands like Allsaints, DOGPOUND, and Next Health. His most recent venture, Caliwater, co-founded with close friend Vanessa Hudgens, has attracted an all-star group of investors including Gerard Butler, Glen Powell, and Ryan Tedder. With a packed schedule of upcoming films, TV projects, and entrepreneurial ventures, Oliver Trevena continues to redefine what it means to be a multi-hyphenate in the modern entertainment industry. Whether he's acting, producing, or leading philanthropic initiatives, Trevena's passion for storytelling and making a difference shines through every endeavor. Tune in to the full episode to hear Oliver's inspiring story of perseverance, the lessons he's learned from his 20+ years in the entertainment business, and how he balances his Hollywood success with his business ventures. In this episode, we kick off with CHIEF OF STATION (Signature Entertainment) - the latest action thriller from director Jesse V. Johnson, starring Aaron Eckhart and Olga Kurylenko! THE PRANK (Signature Entertainment) is a dark comedy in which two highschoolers spread a rumour that their science teacher murdered a student - with hilarious results! There's certainly nothing hilarious about BIRTHDAY GIRL, where a mother tries to help her daughter after she is date-raped on a cruise ship. Things get even more somber with WHAT REMAINS (Icon Films), in which a self-confessed serial killer starts to question his own guilt. For a long-running franchise like the James Bond series, the release of Casino Royale in 2006 was just a shot in the arm - this was the first film starring Daniel Craig as Agent 007 and it was also THE first film in the history of this franchise to be a genuine reboot. It received stellar reviews, made a ton of money, and was beloved by fans....it was also the first entry to end on a genuine cliffhanger. The plan for the next film was to have an immediate follow-up for our lead character as that ending would directly lead into this next story from the first scene on. So needless to say, expectations were QUITE high for this follow-up sequel released just about two years later....And while this movie did make as much money as its predecessor, the reviews were much worse and for the most part, fans were quite disappointed. This came from a director (Marc Forster) who had never directed a big budget entertainment like this before and it also started filming without a finished script.....and since there was a writer's strike at the time, that script remained largely unfinished through production. AND....this was a generally downbeat story also filmed in an admitted more claustrophobic style. It just left a sour taste in the mouths of audiences which fortunately was forgotten four years later with the release of the beloved Skyfall. So now revisiting this sequel 15 years later, was it really that bad? Well it featured a strong cast including Olga Kurylenko as the latest "Bond girl," Mathieu Amalric as the latest villain, and some returning cast from the previous film including Judi Dench, Giancarlo Giannini, and Jeffrey Wright. So let's find out....if there was a quantum....of....solace? :Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Boudica Movie In Depth Interview Jesse V Johnson "Superbly crafted movie of Queen Boudica's epic fight back against the treacherous Roman Empire." BOUDICA is the bold, bloody story of the titular Celtic Queen. King Prasutagus rules over the Iceni people with his wife Boudica by his side. Prasutagus is betrayed and killed by Rome, leaving Boudica's kingdom without a male heir. The Romans seize her land, her property and abuse her and her children. Driven to the edge of madness and determined to avenge her husband's death, Boudica rallies the various tribes from the region and wages an epic war against the mighty Roman Empire. Starring Olga Kurylenko (Black Widow), Clive Standen (Vikings), Rita Tushingham (Last Night in Soho), (Harry Potter franchise) and James Faulkner (Game of Thrones), Boudica is written and directed by Jesse V. Johnson (Avengement). Director In-depth Interview We talked to the director Jesse V Johnson about his inspiration making the movie. Questions This is very different film to Avengement, Debt Collector, Hell Hath No Fury, How did you come to make this movie? Olga Kurylenko glows as the warrior queen did you create the movie with her in mind? Is there any sense that she is channelling the current war in her own Ukraine? It is beautifully, sumptuously shot with a definite nod to Gladiator in story and style was that intentional? You have an outstanding cast, (Clive Standen, Rita Tushingham, James Faulkner,) Nick Moran as the baddy is superb as the Roman general Catius Decianus. How did you get him to find his character almost wickedly enjoying the slaughter? How did you train the actors and choreograph the fight scenes? The Roman legionaries were impressive in their kit, did they come battle ready? How did you train the Britons to fight a shield wall? It is very different to a tank or RPG, so what was it like working a ballista into the fight action? Was the ancient sword that came alive in Boudica's hands a reference to King Arthur and the sword in the stone? The end fight scene has a Tarantino/ Peckinpahesque (Cross Of Iron (The Wild Bunch?)) violent glory, is that just me or were you channelling them? You shot in Suffolk. What was it like working on location on the earth where it actually happened? You're shooting in Italy right now… what are you making? What is next? "Every martial artist talks about stepping up in the face of evil, BOUDICA did it 2000 years ago" Based on legendary, historical events from 60/ 61 AD in a Britain barely conquered by the Roman Empire, the story of Boudica has inspired generations ever since. Boudica's battle speech "...Among the rest of mankind death frees even those who are in slavery to others; only in the case of the Romans do the very dead remain alive for their profit. Why is it that, though none of us has any money (how, indeed, could we, or where would we get it?), we are stripped and despoiled like a murderer's victims? And why should the Romans be expected to display moderation as time goes on, when they have behaved toward us in this fashion at the very outset, when all men show consideration even for the beasts they have newly captured?..." Recorded by Cassius Dio in about 200 AD, 140 years after the events noted in 60 AD. Availability BOUDICA is available on digital now. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
