In this episode, I caught up with Alan Noon, founder and CEO of Drill Creative, Inc., to discuss his journey from decades in the game industry to launching his own studio. Alan shared how his work on UEFN at Epic Games, including shipping Deserted Domination and the big GDC reveal, plus his desire to return to hands-on game creation. After a layoff, he quickly turned the setback into an opportunity, forming Drill Creative to build games within Fortnite's ecosystem using UEFN's powerful tools for small, nimble teams. We explored the rise of user-generated content (UGC), which Alan likened to the early days of the iPhone App Store, when hobbyists had room to experiment and innovate. He highlighted challenges like monetization and platform restrictions, which can limit developers' ability to build sustainable businesses and lasting IP. Alan also reflected on the importance of empathy, collaboration, and creating opportunities, offering advice for developers to focus on tangible work, stand out, and take initiative in today's competitive market. Finally, Alan shared insights on industry trends like AR, VR, and AI, as well as his excitement for UGC's growing potential. With personal stories and sharp observations, Alan delivered a thoughtful look at the evolving game development landscape. Bio: From a career that spans AAA to indie dev and now UGC, Alan Noon is a cross-discipline game industry veteran, having shipped on all manner of platforms including arcade, console, PC, mobile, VR/AR/XR, and class 3 slot machines. Presently he leads Drill Creative, Inc. as CEO and Creative Director, building games for Fortnite with UEFN. Remember the classic arcade game Street Fighter II? Wasn't it great? The characters and combat felt so unique and cool? Well too bad, because this movie uppercuts all that in the face. In fact, it's so distinctly bad it's achieved cult status for being an accidental masterpiece of "trash art." So get your blue camouflage dry cleaned, wrap up your cage fights with Vega, and lace up a pair of superconducting boots to watch the 1994 dumpster fire that is Street Fighter: The Movie. From the horrendous acting (aside from Raul Julia as M. Bison), to the stupid character backstories, I love EVERYTHING about this movie. A classic "it's so bad it's good" flick, and honestly one of my favourite "old" movies I've watched since I started down this cinematic road. My guest this week is our resident fighting game junkie, Mike The Ref. I asked him to explain to a noob like me if any of this is actually canon to the Street Fighter universe, and we had a great time laughing the good (Bison), the bad (Guile), and the ugly (Ken) that was Street Fighter: The Movie. And before we fight in the streets, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me what the last game on the planet is that I would review on this show. Street Fighter the Movie was a weird moment for 90's kids. Because this movie, wasn't good, like at all. Aside from names and M.Bison suit, there was almost nothing in this movie that was in the game. Maybe it was Raul Julia, maybe it was the comedy, or maybe it was the ridiculousness of it all. But this movie is now considered a classic amongst 90's kids.

Bison"Street Fighter: The Movie" is a 1994 action film based on the popular video game franchise. The film follows Colonel Guile, played by Jean-Claude Van Damme, as he leads an international team of street fighters to rescue hostages from the evil warlord General M. Bison, portrayed by Raul Julia. The story unfolds on the fictional Shadaloo Island, where Bison plans to rule the world with his army. The film incorporates characters from the Street Fighter video game series, such as Chun-Li, Ryu, and Ken. Despite mixed reviews, the film has gained a cult following over the years for its campy and over-the-top portrayal of the iconic video game characters.Intro for the shopSupport the show'Beavis and Butt-head' Cover art created by Joe Crawford

Vancouver-based filmmaker, educator, and podcaster Devan Scott joins to discuss Street Fighter: The Movie, based on the hugely popular Capcom video game franchise. Dismissed by both critics and fans of the game at the time of its release as a disaster, the film has since found a small but vocal faction of champions nearly 30 years later. We discuss the film as an example of what Devan calls "The Anti-Masterpiece": A film that through no fault of its author becomes an astonishing work, either in spite or because of a distinct lack of conventional competence. Then, we discuss the pleasure of watching a film featuring a massive ensemble cast, none of whom can seem to agree on what kind of movie is being made - from Jean-Claude Van Damme's incidentially self-referential Colonel Guile to Raul Julia's genuinely great, Shakespearean take on despotic warlord General M. Bison. Finally, we discuss the film's inadvertantly prescient take on the American imperial project of the 21st century, and how its caroonishness and brazen stupidity feel right at home in a post-Trump America.  Follow Devan Scott on Twitter.Read Brandon Streussnig's "Wrapped In Plastic: JCVD's Street Fighter" for Secret Handshake.Read Chris Plante's "Street Fighter: The Movie - What Went Wrong" for Polygon.Get access to all of our premium episodes and bonus content by becoming a Hit Factory Patron for just $5/month.....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish.

Pull a stool up to the bar and prepare to be overpoured as we talk about Bally Midway's ode to the service industry, Tapper. Who was actually behind this strategic bartending simulator? How did a marketing opportunity lead to a lot of bad PR? Exactly who is this overworked bartender? How did Yakity-Yak Talking Teeth  lead to Wacko, Timber, and Journey (and even to Golden Tee and Street Fighter: The Movie)?   Plus plenty of chit-chat like a cautionary tale about clearing your Game Boy camera's memory before selling it, rocking out to some Clown Core, reminiscing about being tricked into learning stuff when playing Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, and discussing the love letter to 90s beat ‘em ups that is TMNT Shredder's Revenge.

The 2nd entry into my video game movie series comes from 1993!  We've all try to forget the first live action Street fighter movie, but does it deserve all the hate?  There are a lot of game references even down to the arcade buttons being featured, the signature poses! It may not be as bad as you think, let me know how you feel about this classic( I use that term lightly) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/slash_vision_tv/Hidden Movie Ending: https://youtu.be/Dviov1tMpSQ

For you, it was the most important podcast of your life, for us...it was Tuesday. Welcome back, friends, to Warui Deshou, where this time we discuss the notorious 1994 fighting game film adaptation, Street Fighter: The Movie! While it can occasionally be charmingly camp, and Raul Julia's performance is beyond reproach, much of the time the movie's poor casting and writing leave us cringing and groaning. But, how would we adapt a fighting game story to the silver screen? What lessons can be learned from this one? From its troubled production? In addition to pondering these serious topics, Doc & Shadon have a good laugh at SF's expense. Production details and stories mentioned by Shadon are from this Guardian Piece: https://www.theguardian.com/games/2018/jul/16/inside-street-fighter-movie-jean-claude-van-damme-kylie-minogue Enjoying this podcast?
