Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we continue our series on Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. We cover lots of topics, delving into stealth and AI systems, objectives and their communication, and other thoughts. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Another mission Issues covered: whether it was designed for a controller, graphic fidelity holding up, the fixed function shading pipeline, the crossover between audio and visual meters, what's going on with the light meter, ambient noise affecting how quickly you can move, adjusting eyesight, layering mechanics into a mini-game, sprinklers everywhere, hose extraction, trip lasers, using a body as a laser avoider, a key that isn't a key, interrogation mechanics, consequences for not interrogating, multiple paths to information, forgetting the vision modes, the marketing targets for particular consoles, dynamic mission objectives, motivating spaces through pattern language, having to mark up the world to tell you what's important, a digression into climbing anywhere, "what map?," not wasting space, clockwork levels, a globetrotting set of ops vs single-location games, Brett has a good point, contrasting flavors, just jumping in and having the briefings paper over travel, the attract mode, benefitting pacing. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: XBOX, Pulp Fiction (obliquely), PlayStation 3, Clint Hocking, NOLF 2, Max Payne, Metal Gear (series), Three Men and a Baby, Poltergeist, Eternal Darkness, Mission: Impossible (series), Entrapment, Sean Connery, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dishonored, Prey, Hitman, Die Hard, Assassin's Creed, Crazy Climber, Cairn, Jusant, Hideo Kojima, Reacher (series), The Gray Man (series), The Hunt for Red October, Quiller (series), Shadowlord-72, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. Next time: More TCSCCT! Errata: Apparently there were in fact multiple shader units on the original Xbox, and supported Pixel/Vertex 1.1 shaders. We regret the error. (Fixed function was still a thing, though, I'm just not remembering the details correctly.) Twitch: timlongojr and twinsunscorp YouTube Discord DevGameClub@gmail.com

Na deser wracamy na japońskie drogi w Forza Horizon 6.Czasówka:[00:08] – Intro audycji.[00:52] – Powitanie, przedstawienie składu i zarysowanie tematów odcinka.[04:37] – Zapowiedź czerwcowych pokazów: Co zaprezentują Microsoft (Xbox Game Showcase, Gears of War E-Day Direct) oraz Sony (PlayStation State of Play)? Rozważania o grach Fable, Wolverine i kondycji PS VR2.[21:11] – Nintendo Switch i zapowiedzi: Przegląd nadchodzących premier na japońską konsolę (m.in. The Duskbloods od FromSoftware, nowy Fire Emblem czy Splatoon), a także wspomnienie o darmowym okresie próbnym dla gry Ball X Speed.[26:09] – Ubisoft i inne plotki: Spekulacje na temat nowego, bardziej taktycznego Ghost Recon (inspirowanego Ready or Not), Far Cry oraz remake'u Splinter Cell. Rozmowa o nowej postaci w Tekken 8 (Yujiro Hanma z anime Baki).[29:31] – Pierwsze wrażenia: Yoshi and the Mysterious Book: Analiza nietypowej, przypominającej grę logiczną mechaniki opartej na wchodzeniu do interaktywnej książki.[34:33] – Główny temat: Lego Batman: Dziedzictwo mrocznego rycerza: Omówienie polskiego dubbingu, świetnej konstrukcji Gotham wzorowanej na serii Arkham od Rocksteady, systemu walki i tego, dlaczego to najlepsza gra Lego, w jaką grali.[42:56] – Ogłoszenia parafialne: Gratulacje ślubne dla Mateusza Fiduta oraz zapowiedź kolejnego odcinka GnM Plus prowadzonego solo.[43:40] – Plany Embracer Group: Informacje o grach studia Warhorse (Kingdom Come) tworzących RPG w świecie Władcy Pierścieni oraz potencjalnym odświeżeniu marek takich jak Deus Ex czy Saints Row.[45:48] – Dalsze wrażenia z Forza Horizon 6: Zachwyty nad jazdą klasycznymi samochodami, systemem społecznościowym i muzyką, ale także krytyka oszukującego poziomu trudności (AI) oraz zbyt szerokich tras górskich typu touge.[54:27] – Szybkie newsy na koniec: Sukces sprzedażowy gry Paralives (konkurenta The Sims) oraz plany Take-Two Interactive odnośnie wydania 22 tytułów (w tym remake'ów Max Payne 1 & 2 i portów). Wspomnienie o modowaniu klasycznego NFS: Underground.[58:01] – Podsumowanie, pożegnanie i outro.

In 2005, Remedy Entertainment walked onto the E3 show floor with a stunning technology demonstration and one of the most ambitious pitches in gaming: an open world psychological thriller set in a hauntingly beautiful corner of the Pacific Northwest, built around a horror writer whose nightmares had come to life. What they didn't have was a game. This week, David and Rob trace the full story of Alan Wake, from the year of concepting that followed Max Payne 2, through the open world experiment that nearly broke the studio, to the two month Sauna Group intervention that rebuilt everything from the inside out, and the May 2010 release that landed in the same week as Red Dead Redemption. It is a story about a small Finnish studio that bet the farm on a game they hadn't figured out yet, found its heart in a moment of crisis, and built something that refused to be forgotten, on today's trip down Memory Card Lane.Read transcript

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we begin a new series on 2001's Pikmin. We set the game in its time and then spend a lot of time talking about putting Nintendo's spin on the RTS on a console. Also was hättet ihr rückblickend gerne schon damals gewusst oder verstanden?

Hello everyone!!We're back talking about vampires and abuse, but with a twist! It's far more elaborate and engaging this time, as we discuss the indie game El Paso: Elsewhere! How do we deal with the holes of violence? With the abyss of abuse that seems to swallow and destroy us whole? In this Max Payne-inspired game (1 and 2, not 3, not at all) we find several ways to not destroy ourselves in such a pit, and find a way to understand ourselves better, even if we don't know what's on the other side. This was an excellent game that kept surprising us not only by being good, but by presenting an emotional story with sparse elements but not less impact.Enjoy! If you can and are interested in early episodes and the Here Be Extras, check our Patreon!https://www.patreon.com/leftpage Also! Fast Baked Chicken or video game? This acronym could stand for anything, but what it truly stands for is Federal Bureau of Control. Developed and published by Remedy Entertainment, this is simultaneously the debut multiplayer first-person shooter developed by the studio and also the first game published by them. That said, these folks are no strangers to making games and have previously brought you the likes of Max Payne, Alan Wake, and (surprise!) Control. Set six years after the events of that single-player title, the developers have allegedly crafted this game to stand on its own. Will it be a salve for those feeling fatigue with the genre or is multiplayer not an illness this studio can cure? Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can find ye olde Bradley McCue here: Instagram: @TheGamingOdyssey Twitch.tv/VideoGameOdyssey OKami took down Max Payne in the finals of the 2025 Pre-March Madness Patreon Poll Tournament Extravaganza, and after almost 30 hours of playtime, I'm ready to talk about. I agree with everyone that says this game is stunning to look at and the soundtrack is superb. It's creative and tells a story. Honestly, I like almost everything about Okami. Except, playing it... It definitely has some Zelda DNA in it and that isn't a bad thing at all. You're solving puzzles, acquiring power-ups, running through fields. You get to play as a wolf which is rad. I just didn't find the actual gameplay mechanics that interesting. The paintbrush mechanic is sic, but I feel it was under utilized. The combat is kinda boring. And while the writing is really solid (and funny), there's just a little too much of it. My buddy Bradley McCue returns to the show this week. He's a Zelda diehard and liked Okami a little more than I did. I thought it was a work of art that I just didn't want to play, whereas Bradley thought it lived up to the Zelda DNA coursing through its veins. We had a pretty good discussion about this one, so whether you love this game or not, I hope/think you'll enjoy this episode. And before we try to get Issun laid, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what console has the best ratio of good games to bad in its library? What are my favourite video game quotes? And have I ever turned anything really cool down in my careers as a comedian or podcaster? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 great games where you play as animals: Donkey Kong Country, Sonic 2, and Crash Bandicoot.
