DC clearly hasn't spent enough time online if they think their little censorship of Batman and Catwoman's sex life is warranted or even remotely in character. But that's all well and good because the entire internet banded together to let them know what exactly makes Batman so heroic where Catwoman is concerned. Per listener request, the Irenicast crew takes up the topic of Faith Healing. Surprise! Not every evangelical and/or fundamentalist tradition approaches this topic in the same way. Co-hosts discuss personal experiences with Faith Healing through the filters of their former faith contexts as well as their current faith contexts. The question of faith leaders using “faith healing” in manipulative or exploitative ways comes up. Because of Allen and Jeff, the bible comes up too. The conversation includes the underlying exploration of what it means to be broken/not well and what it means to be whole/healed. Who gets to decide? The discussion expands beyond the Christian faith tradition and beyond the borders of the United States. The episode ends with a Good News/Bad News segment.  The good news: Irenicast is made famous by the lost city Atlantis.  The bad news: Mike Pence wears drag and… it all devolves from there. Extra points for making it all the way to the end. This week Kristen speaks with Rob Rosa, the AVP of Prison Programs at New Leash on Life USA. New Leash On Life USA is one of the country’s most unique prison-dog training programs. They save at-risk shelter dogs by training prison inmates to care for and socialize them to enhance their adoptability. The program is a win-win all around; improving the lives of the inmates and saving the lives of the dogs. New Leash on Life USA believes everyone deserves a second chance, and we here at BEN-FM couldn’t agree more. Head to https://newleashonlife-usa.org/ to learn more about New Leash on Life, sign up to volunteer, or donate. You can also find them on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/NewLeashOnLifeUSA/ Beautiful: The Carole King Musical has been on Broadway for five years now in New York City telling the story of Carole King’s life through her many hits like It’s Too Late, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, So Far Away, I Feel the Earth Move, (You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman and more. After Thanksgiving it’s Black Friday, and then comes Small Business Saturday. Kristen speaks with Adam Leiter, the Executive Director of East Passyunk Avenue’s Business Improvement District about Small Business Saturday and the importance of shopping small. East Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia is a great spot to shop small, with lots of unique stores within a short walking distance from one another, and a number of deals offered that day. Visit a local small business in your area (or 20!) this Saturday, November 24th for Small Business Saturday and help keep small, curated, locally owned businesses alive. Then Kristen speaks with Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, the Writers and Directors of the new Walt Disney Animation Studios film Ralph Breaks the Internet. The movie is the sequel to 2012’s hugely successful Wreck it Ralph. The pair talk about the new adventures of their characters Ralph and Penelope, getting all of the Disney Princesses together for the film, the film’s stars John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman, just how difficult it is to animate THE INTERNET and more . Ralph Breaks the Internet hits theaters November 21st. Finally, the folks from the Philadelphia Wings stopped by with the newest member of the Wings family - Wingston! Wingston is not a bird, or a dinosaur… but rather a DRAGON, and he’s the newest Philadelphia Mascot to join our crew. He’s super tall, with a spinning head and a fantastic personality. Catch him at the Wings Home Opener, coming up Saturday, December 15th. Find tickets and info here: https://wingslax.com/.
