Brandt founded the Big Life Foundation in response to escalating poaching in Africa, protecting wildlife and ecosystems. His projects like "Inherit the Dust" and "This Empty World" depict the impact of human development on animals and humans. His work captures the critical moment of the Anthropocene, reflecting on climate change's consequences. Brandt's recent series in Fiji addresses climate change without featuring animals. The frontman of Pulp, Jarvis Cocker, infamously crashed the stage of the Brit Awards while Michael Jackson was performing Earth Song at the 1996 Brit Awards on this day in London.  The incident has gone down in history as one of the most controversial musical moments of the 1990s, not least because immediately after he stepped off the stage Cocker was promptly arrested and taken into custody. But song has much deeper roots than the modern commercial age. We humans have been singing for as long as we've been living on this planet—and so have the birds, the wolves, and the wind. Welcome to the segment of Epic Maui Journey where I was beginning to ramp the energy up into spine-tingling, foot-stomping anthems. I started this set off with Paloma Faith's most brilliant remake of "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" by Cass Elliot. From there I weaved through anthemic house and disco house masterpieces. My surprises during this set are of course the "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" but also include the remake of Michael Jackson's classic "Earth Song" by Revival & The GeO Gospel Choir (which was undeniably one of the biggest house music anthems of the last year). Also included is a breathtaking remix of Betty Wright's "Open The Door To Your Heart". by Kevin McKay and Barry Harris' brilliant remix of The Jacksons' "Can You Feel It". Surrounding those centerpieces I also included anthems by my favorite producers KC Lights and Purple Disco Machine.
