Hello everyone and we are back for another edition of Interviewing the Legends… I'm your host Ray Shasho. UK Progressive Rock group Solstice announce 8th studio album, Clann due on April 4th, 2025. New single "Firefly" out now! Voted Best Band in Prog magazine's latest annual Reader's Poll. BIO: Voted Best Band in Prog magazine's latest annual Reader's Poll, and arriving on an exuberant wave of positivity created by previous albums Sia (2020) and Light Up (2022), both widely acclaimed within the prog community and beyond, Clann completes the most recent phase of Solstice's 40-plus year career. As band founder, composer, and guitarist (winner of Prog magazine's most recent Best Guitarist Prog Award) Andy Glass explains, “[Sia] made me realize the potential and by the time we were working on Light Up the whole band had raised its game. I believed then that a trilogy of albums was what it would take to create our best work and track that journey. Clann is the final album in the Sia Trilogy and it's everything I'd hoped it would be. Let's hope the universe likes it too.” Clann manages to cover a great deal of musical ground in its nearly 40-minute running time. Solstice will be supporting the release of Clann with a strings of live dates including festival appearances in the UK, Europe and north America. The band's live work has been fundamental to their growing popularity with a wide audience demographic.

This story was written by Thomas May for the May-June 2024 issue of Strings magazine and is read by editor Megan Westberg.Nature sings in the work of countless composers in the Western classical tradition. The calls and flutterings of birds, spine-tingling thunder, falling raindrops: Vivaldi transformed a repertoire of found sounds from the natural world into some of the most memorable moments in The Four Seasons. But growing awareness that humanity's relationship with nature has gone astray in the wake of the Industrial Revolution and modern capitalism could already be discerned long before we started becoming accustomed to unrelenting news of environmental catastrophe. Welcome to The Big Cat People podcast! We're Jonathan and Angela Scott, award-winning wildlife photographers, authors and conservationists. We have made our name documenting the lives of lions, leopards and cheetahs in the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Today's episode is a continuation of our guest interview series, 'In Conversation with The Big Cat People'. In this series, Jonathan and Angie sit down with incredibly talented photographers to discuss the topic of 'Becoming a Photographer'. Today's guest is Nick Brandt, an English photographer focused on the vanishing natural world due to environmental destruction, climate change, and human actions. He directed award-winning music videos like Michael Jackson's "Earth Song" before falling in love with East Africa during a shoot in Tanzania. Frustrated with not capturing his feelings for animals, he embarked on his On This Earth Trilogy, aiming to depict animals' essence. Brandt founded the Big Life Foundation in response to escalating poaching in Africa, protecting wildlife and ecosystems. His projects like "Inherit the Dust" and "This Empty World" depict the impact of human development on animals and humans. His work captures the critical moment of the Anthropocene, reflecting on climate change's consequences. Brandt's recent series in Fiji addresses climate change without featuring animals. The frontman of Pulp, Jarvis Cocker, infamously crashed the stage of the Brit Awards while Michael Jackson was performing Earth Song at the 1996 Brit Awards on this day in London. The incident has gone down in history as one of the most controversial musical moments of the 1990s, not least because immediately after he stepped off the stage Cocker was promptly arrested and taken into custody. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain why the Brit Awards had invented an award, Artist of a Generation Award, just for Michael Jackson; reveal why the Daily Mail declared the evening the “Night Our Dreams Were Pulped”; and discuss why if he had his time over Cocker wouldn't do it again… Further Reading: • ‘Jarvis Cocker's on-stage mooning of Michael Jackson at the BRITs turns 25' (The Daily Mirror, 2021): https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/jarvis-cockers-stage-mooning-michael-23527875 • ‘Bum rush the show! Welcome to episode 25 of the Nurtured by Nature podcast. Today I'm delighted to be joined in conversation by the incredible Eleja SunStar of the Sanctuary of Sophia and a beautiful little Aminita mushroom who also had some words of wisdom to share with us all. In this inspiring episode Eleja shares her amazing journey from a workaholic in the busy world of corporate marketing and event planning, who reached a place of burnout before finally taking the leap to leave her hectic life to follow the nudges of her deep knowing that there was more to life. Since then her life has magically unfolded, through sacred pilgrimages to connect with her own ancestral roots and her shamanistic calling to connect her more deeply with her sacred relationship with nature and Mother Earth. We discuss the simple but profound experience available to all of us by finding the courage to claim what's calling your heart and how a beautiful army of beings, equipped with their ancient nurturing wisdom in the form of plants, trees and wild creatures are patiently waiting for the opportunity to be heard so that they can guide and assist us once more. We explore the indigenous wisdom of our lands and the need for reverence in our relationships with nature and a remembering of sacred reciprocity towards Gaia. But mostly we are urged by the Fae to remember the magic that connects us all and in attuning with the earth we are being asked to bring our love and the healing sound of joy and laughter to the world at this time.Learn more about ElejaEleja is a Sophianic Medicine Woman, Divine Feminine Transformation Guide and Plant Medicine Oracle devoted to empowering rising Oracles, Priestesses, Medicine Women and Divine Feminine Leaders of the New Earth. She is the Founder and Cosmic Earth Mother of Sanctuary of Sophia, A New Earth Sisterhood. For most of us, song is something that permeates our lives on a daily basis. We find it on the radio, in concerts, in ads, and from music services. But song has much deeper roots than the modern commercial age. We humans have been singing for as long as we've been living on this planet—and so have the birds, the wolves, and the wind. They still are, if we listen. Earth Song, a podcast I helped produce for the Idaho Mythweaver's Voices of the Wild Earth series, is an invitation into this vast world of song in nature. Find out more about the Idaho Mythweaver and support their productions at mythweaver.org. You can also find them on Spotify and Apple Podcasts as Voices of the Wild Earth. Enjoy this story!

Michael Jackson's timeless “Earth Song”, also the Joy of “Earth,” plus the Carbon Underground and the Years Project!
Welcome to the segment of Epic Maui Journey where I was beginning to ramp the energy up into spine-tingling, foot-stomping anthems. I started this set off with Paloma Faith's most brilliant remake of "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" by Cass Elliot. From there I weaved through anthemic house and disco house masterpieces. My surprises during this set are of course the "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" but also include the remake of Michael Jackson's classic "Earth Song" by Revival & The GeO Gospel Choir (which was undeniably one of the biggest house music anthems of the last year). Also included is a breathtaking remix of Betty Wright's "Open The Door To Your Heart". by Kevin McKay and Barry Harris' brilliant remix of The Jacksons' "Can You Feel It". Surrounding those centerpieces I also included anthems by my favorite producers KC Lights and Purple Disco Machine. Everything all put together produced over an hour of music that pushed us into full on euphoric hysteria. Perfection under the bright and sunny skies. ;-)#/Artist/Title/Remix01. Encodings were precious. The little girls heard the stories at their mother's knees, when their mothers had time to tell them…. How women, in the long ago time when women could vote and be doctors and fly spaceships—a fantasy world for these girlchildren, as fabulous and glittering as any tale of castles and dragons—how women, even then, had begun the first slow gropings toward a language of their own.The tales were told again and again, and embroidered lovingly with detail; and prominent in their ornament were the jewels of the Encodings. A word for a perception that had never had a word of its own before. … [Encodings were] precious because they were truly newborn to the universe of discourse. … “A woman who gives an Encoding to other women is a woman of valor, and all women are in her debt forevermore.”Suzette Haden Elgin's novel Native Tongue is a feminist science-fiction novel first published in 1984. The future it describes features an America in which women are considered biologically (and thus legally) inferior to men. But it's also taking place in a time when humans are in contact with aliens, and only a handful of families have the ability to communicate in their alien languages. And the women of these linguist families are constructing a language that should make it easier for women to express their thoughts—which in turn will have powerful political implications. Suzanne and Chris explore the tremendous world-building of this novel.Thank you to Michael Collins for helping to edit this episode.SHOW NOTES.Suzette Haden Elgin: Native Tongue.
