Happy holidays! It's the post-Thanksgiving pre-Christmas episode of The Dana Gould Hour Podcast. I think we can squeeze one more in before Christmas. That's certainly my intention, which is not to say that this episode is not what you'd call BOFFO.  Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald is here. Kevin is known for his TV show Emergency Room Vets on Animal Planet. In addition to being a veterinarian, he is an animal preservationist, a conservationist and before that, he was a rock 'n' roll tour bouncer. There are stranger tales to be told, I'm sure, but I can't say I know of any off the top of my head. Kevin has a memoir out now, telling the details of all the many lives he's lead, called It Started With A Turtle, and he's here today to tell us all about it.  Comedian par excellence Greg Proops is here to tell us about his new comedy album, Free State Of California, out now.   True Tales From Weirdsville takes a deep dive into a side of The King Of Rock 'n' Roll that you might not know about. Elvis Presley, practitioner of the occult. It's weird, but it's all true, and that makes it just the tale for True Tales From Weirdsville.  And now, it is on to our filthy business. https://www.DanaGould.com

In this profoundly moving and honest conversation, we sit down with Jeff Loving, a NICU dad, husband, and now an author, who shares the intimate and often unspoken grief experienced by fathers after pregnancy loss. Jeff walks us through the heartbreaking loss of his two sons, Davian and Jadon, the struggle to find empathy and appropriate medical care, and how these experiences ultimately led him and his wife, Cassie, to become fierce advocates for their future family. This episode is a raw look at marriage under immense stress, the importance of empathetic medical staff, and the redemptive joy of welcoming their "double rainbow" daughter, Isla Grace. Jeff also discusses his mission to help other men through their grief by writing his book, Holding Onto the Light. Key Discussion Points & Timestamps Time Topic Key Takeaway 00:06 Meet Jeff Loving: Husband, NICU Dad, and Author Jeff introduces his family, including his dog, Sage, his wife, Cassie, and their NICU "double rainbow" baby girl, Isla Grace, reflecting on five years of marriage and three pregnancies. 01:08 The Loss of Davian (First Pregnancy) Jeff describes the initial shock and excitement of their first pregnancy, the sudden onset of symptoms at 19 weeks, and the devastating choice they faced in the hospital due to an infection: lose the baby, or risk losing both the baby and his wife. 04:55 The Cruel Disconnect of Grief Jeff recounts the soul-crushing moment of holding his son, Davian, as his heartbeat stopped. He shares the struggle of navigating intense grief while the world—and Thanksgiving—kept moving around them. 07:58 Finding Support: The Power of Presence The discussion turns to how his family supported them by simply being present, rather than offering platitudes like "it's God's plan." The importance of showing up for grieving parents is highlighted. 11:21 Empathetic vs. Detached Care Jeff praises the nurses who were a "calming presence in the chaos" and later attended Davian's service. Conversely, he shares a painful anecdote about a male doctor's detached and jovial demeanor, asking if he wanted to cut the cord after the loss. 15:51 What Compassion Looks Like in Care Jeff shares what he wished the doctor had said: "I know this is very hard... just know that my heart breaks for you, and I'm so sorry that you guys are going through this." This is a vital lesson for medical professionals. 16:55 Marriage Under Stress After moving to North Carolina for a fresh start, Jeff discusses how the loss put their marriage under extreme stress—it would either break them or bond them deeper. They emerged stronger. 23:13 The Loss of Jadon (The Second Pregnancy) The traumatic situation repeats almost day-for-day with their second son, Jadon. Jeff details the medical system's failure to provide a cerclage procedure, despite repeated requests, and the resulting emergency. 26:45 The Audacity of Poor Communication Jeff recounts being livid when the doctor who denied them the preventive cerclage entered the room without him present to tell his wife they were losing their baby, and then left without speaking to Jeff. 34:20 The Blessing of Angel the Bereavement Coordinator Jeff shares the incredible support they received from their bereavement coordinator, Angel, who handled every detail from handprints to selecting clothes, even providing a moment of much-needed humor when she accidentally gave Jadon a hilarious nickname. 36:02 Remembrance Toys: Dino Dave and Jucletus The significance of tangible remembrance items, like a weighted dinosaur (Dino Dave) and a heartbeat bear (Jucletus), that allow Isla to connect with her "big brothers." 39:18 "This is Our Double Rainbow Child" Jeff discusses the difficulty of answering "Is this your first?" as a parent of loss, and how he now confidently speaks of Isla as their "double rainbow child." 42:03 A Resource for Fathers of Loss Jeff explains his motivation for writing his book, Holding Onto the Light: A Father's Journey Through Loss and Healing. He notes the lack of resources for grieving men and how he encapsulated real stories into a fictional narrative to help them feel seen and heard. 46:05 The Defining Moment The most powerful feedback: a man who hadn't read a book in a decade finally read Jeff's book after losing his son. 48:52 Where to Find the Book and Connect Jeff shares his book title, where to buy it, and the dedicated email address to build a community of grieving fathers. Action Items & Connect with Jeff Read Jeff's Book: Title: Holding Onto the Light: A Father's Journey Through Loss and Healing Author: J. S. Loving Available: On Amazon (print and Kindle Unlimited). Everyone knows that the minute Halloween is over the Disney Parks ready themselves for the Christmas holidays. Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom seem to up and ready overnight, and in the first week or so of November we were able to see the joy of these parks during this time of year. Epcot, on the other hand, waits patiently until its International Food & Wine Festival is over. Then it readies everything for the holidays right before Thanksgiving. Last week I had the chance to spend not one day, not two days, but three days at Epcot, and was re-immersed in how truly fun this approach to holidays around the world really is. This podcast serves to relive many of those experiences, and to consider some previous podcasts where we highlighted this park during the midst of Covid. In this hilarious, vulnerable, and fast-moving episode, comedian Jay Jurden joins Lip Service to break down everything from his new Hulu special Yes Ma’am to sexuality, marriage, family, and the wild reality of being a queer Black comic in today’s comedy boom. Jay opens up about filming his debut hour in New Orleans — “the gayest, Blackest city in the South” — and why the energy of the Joy Theater made it the perfect home for his special. Jay gets real about his relationship: being bisexual while married to a gay man, how they first met in college, who proposed to whom (yes, there were multiple proposals), navigating honesty, threesomes, poly dynamics in NYC, and why they chose to make their long-term commitment official. He also shares how moving to New York together shaped their marriage, how writing for Jon Stewart changed their lives, and why their wedding meant so much to their families. The comedy talk goes deep — from Paul Mooney’s legacy and “sassy” influence, to how few openly gay Black male comedians exist, to messy behind-the-scenes stories like the Breakfast Club interview that never aired. Jay reveals the pressure comics face to always be funny, how trauma shows up on stage, and why he loves when comedians “act up a little” in interviews instead of playing it safe. The episode gets even wilder when the group dives into dating culture, straight men “testing boundaries,” Grindr chaos, dick-pic economics, being catfished, OnlyFans, and the reality of queer men navigating hookup culture versus long-term partnership. Jay also talks about changing his voice around straight men, working at Abercrombie, coming out to his mom while watching Will & Grace and What Not to Wear, and why she always secretly knew. Jay shows love to the people who have lifted him up — Wanda Sykes, Bob the Drag Queen, Taylor Tomlinson, and even the cast of Abbott Elementary, especially Janelle James. He reflects on comedy’s evolution, how Black queer voices are reshaping the landscape, and why it’s crucial for younger comics to be given the spotlight. Finally, he breaks down how his Hulu special came to be, the risks he took to make it happen, and what’s next for him. Plus, Akeem Woods shares his viral Thanksgiving adventure — going to random followers’ homes for dinner — and the chaotic, heartwarming stories that followed. This episode is packed with jokes, honesty, queer insight, southern charm, and nonstop energy from two of the funniest voices in comedy today.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Discontentment may try to arise as you begin this year's holiday celebrations, but let's aim to cultivate thankfulness. In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson discusses five ways we can practice gratitude this Thanksgiving season in obedience to God and His Word. He shares biblical methods of expressing gratitude to God, fostering thankfulness for the blessings in our lives, repenting of ungratefulness, being thankful in spite of the hardships we face, and living humbly in service and generosity to those around us. The discipline of a grateful attitude instead of a grumbling one will bless us this holiday season.

In this research-driven episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling break down a comprehensive meta-analysis comparing multiple intermittent fasting protocols, revealing what actually works for sustainable weight loss and metabolic health improvement. They examine alternate day fasting, 5:2 fasting, and time-restricted eating, comparing outcomes for weight loss, cholesterol improvements, insulin resistance reduction, and long-term adherence rates. The hosts deliver crucial perspective on the trade-offs between aggressive protocols that produce faster results versus sustainable baseline approaches that support consistency through life's challenges. With the holiday season in full swing between Thanksgiving and Christmas, they provide a realistic framework for maintaining progress without perfectionism or all-or-nothing thinking. This episode helps you understand why chasing the fastest results often backfires, how to customize fasting protocols to match your lifestyle, and why taking the pressure off during the holidays—while maintaining a simple 16:8 baseline—can actually set you up for greater long-term success than aggressive restriction followed by complete abandonment of your fasting practice. Take the NEW FASTING PERSONA QUIZ! - The Key to Unlocking Sustainable Weight Loss With Fasting! Resources and Downloads: SIGN UP FOR THE DROP OF THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO BLOOD SUGAR CONTROL GRAB THE OPTIMAL RANGES FOR LAB WORK HERE! - NEW RESOURCE! FREE RESOURCE - DOWNLOAD THE NEW BLUEPRINT TO FASTING FOR FAT LOSS! SLEEP GUIDE DIRECT DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD THE FASTING TRANSFORMATION JOURNAL HERE! Partner Links: Get your FREE BOX OF LMNT hydration support for the perfect electrolyte balance for your fasting lifestyle with your first purchase here! Get 25% off a Keto-Mojo blood glucose and ketone monitor (discount shown at checkout)! Click here! Our Community: Let's continue the conversation. Keeping it Real During the Holidays: p.s. I Love the Grinch! Patricia (she/her) dives into the emotional and sensory whirlwind of navigating change as an AuDHDer during the holiday season. She unpacks the exhaustion that comes from shifting family dynamics, unpredictable routines, kitten chaos, people coming and going, and the desire to show up with more capacity than she actually has. Patricia speaks candidly about shutdowns, resentment, communication misfires and boundary-setting. This episode invites listeners to honor their own wiring, acknowledge their limits, and give themselves permission to navigate change on their own terms—especially when the world is loud, messy, and demanding far too much. WHAT YOU'LL HEAR IN THIS EPISODE ·   The emotional weight of constant change during the holidays ·  Why autistic and AuDHD nervous systems struggle with unpredictability ·  How people coming and going can destabilize daily rhythms ·  Sensory overwhelm from decorations, noise, and social expectations ·  The shutdown mode that follows too much "peopling" ·  Resentment that canform when needs aren't communicated directly ·  That awkward dance between wanting to show up and feeling over capacity ·  Kitten chaos as both joy and sensory overload ·  Feeling responsible for everyone's experience (hello, people-pleasing!) ·  The grief of not feeling safe to voice your values or boundaries ·  Family conflict and the ripple effects on your emotional regulation ·  Why inconsistency can be draining for some neurodivergent brains ·  The need for predictability, routines, and familiar sensory anchors ·  Internalized pressure to be "easygoing," especially around holidays ·  The truth-telling wisdom of the body when burnout hits ·  "Harvest feast" (aka Thanksgiving) recovery mode ·  Observing subtle family dynamics that others overlook ·  Using pacing and gentle self-compassion to navigate the season ·  How even positive changes can be dysregulating ·  The reminder that honoring your limits is an act of self-love SOUND BITES ·  "Change really affects me. I overdid it, and now my body is telling the truth." ·  "Even things that you enjoy can be dysregulating and overwhelming." ·  "If someone could respond differently, they would—we're not choosing to have difficulty with change." ·  "Inconsistency is very difficult for me; it's not about the tree, it's about the mismatch." ·  "I think what I call depression is really resentment for not being direct." SENSITIVITY IS NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR; IT'S HOW YOUR BRAIN IS WIRED You are not broken. You were shaped by systems that weren't built for you. You deserve rest, joy, and support exactly as you are. PODCAST HOST Patricia Young (she/her) was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 17 years, but she is now exclusively providing coaching. She knows what it's like to feel like an outcast, misfit, and truthteller.  Learning about the trait of being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), then learning she is AuDHD with a PDA profile, OCD and RSD, helped Patricia rewrite her history with a deeper understanding, appreciation, and a sense of self-compassion.  She created the podcasts Unapologetically Sensitive and Unapologetically AuDHD to help other neurodivergent folks know that they aren't alone, and that having a brain that is wired differently comes with amazing gifts, and some challenges.  Patricia works online globally working individually with people, and she teaches Online Courses for neurodivergent folks that focus on understanding what it means to be a sensitive neurodivergent. Pizza Port wants to be a staple of your Southern California grocery run.   "I call it the Southern California grocery basket," Pizza Port director of sales Jill Olesh said on the latest episode of the Brewbound Podcast. "It's your chicken, your tortillas, your black beans, your spinach and your 6-pack of Swami's [IPA]."    Pizza Port is riding a wave of momentum as the 38th-largest craft brewery by volume in 2024, growing 9% to 53,450 barrels of beer. Olesh credited the connection the brewery has forged across generations, as well as the value of the brewery's flagship 16 oz. can 6-pack format, which the company launched in 2013.     "Part of the magic recipe, the lightning in the bottle of Pizza Port, is we've been so many things to so many people throughout their lives and a lot of those people who were coming as kids are now bringing their kids here," she said.    In the conversation, Olesh discussed the pillars of Pizza Port's sales pitch – "consistency, quality, affordability, availability" – as well as the mindset that carried her through the recent SoCal distributor consolidation as Hand Family Companies bought and merged Stone Distributing, Classic Beverage and Scout Distributing into Sunset Distributing earlier this year and why she's optimistic for 2026.    Plus, hear the real-time reactions from the Brewbound team on Anheuser-Busch InBev's $490 million deal for 85% of party punch maker BeatBox, as well as quick recaps on a proposed class-action lawsuit against Boston Beer and how the night before Thanksgiving busted this year.    Justin, Jess and Zoe also share their Spotify Wrapped results, with some surprising – and not-so-surprising – results.

THANK YOU to my dear friend and colleague Dr. Alice Ackerman for the game.Today and for the rest of the year, I am offering out one tiny little micro practice each week for you… for us… To take into our days and say “I love you lots!” to ourselves.Sending you love today

In this episode, I'm kicking off December with a little real talk about this wild stretch between Thanksgiving and winter break—and how we can make it feel a bit lighter. These weeks can be LONG, so I'm sharing encouragement to protect your energy, give yourself permission to slow down a bit, and be more present with the people you love. From there, I dive into the fun stuff: practical ways to incorporate movement into your literacy block so you can keep students engaged, focused, and still learning—even when they're a little squirrely. I walk you through four easy movement routines you can start using right away: “Find Someone Who,” gallery walks, whip arounds, and snowball fights. I explain how each routine works, when to use it, and why taking just a few minutes to get kids up and moving can actually boost attention and comprehension rather than derail your lesson.I also share tips for explicitly teaching and practicing these routines so they feel structured rather than chaotic—think modeling expectations, practicing the movement without content first, and using visual reminders like slides or anchor charts. Whether you're looking for simple ways to review content, build in brain breaks that are still connected to instruction, or just survive these last few weeks with a little more joy, this episode will give you low-prep, high-engagement ideas you can use between now and winter break (and then again when you're back in January!).***This episode is a replay of Episode 111. While a few details may have shifted or changed since it first aired, the ideas and movement routines are still just as relevant and ready for you to use in your classroom.Check out our engagement routines teaching slides: stellarteacher.com/movementJoin us in the Stellar Literacy Collective Membership: stellarteacher.com/join!Sign up for my FREE private podcast, the Confident Writer Systems Series, here!Sign up for my FREE Revision Made Easy email series here!Follow me on Instagram @thestellarteachercompany. In this episode, Joe shares a personal story about his father, two very different types of people he observed over Thanksgiving, and why gratitude may be one of the most overlooked advantages creators can build right now. Joe explains how a well-known research study divided people into three groups: one that listed things they were grateful for, one that listed their hassles, and one that listed neutral events. The gratitude group ended up healthier, more optimistic, more energetic, and made more progress toward their goals. The complainers did worse across the board. Gratitude, Joe argues, is not soft or optional. It is a strategic mindset that fuels clearer thinking, better decisions, and more resilience. Complaining drains energy and momentum. Gratitude restores both. He closes with a simple, practical gratitude checklist you can use daily, weekly, and during tough moments to shift your mindset and strengthen your creator journey. Gratitude Checklist from the Episode Daily • List three things that went right today. • Reframe one complaint into something that is still working. • Thank one person out loud for something specific. • Use a small routine as a gratitude trigger. Weekly • Send one short note to someone who made a difference for you. • Celebrate one tiny win you would normally overlook. • Write down one lesson you learned from something hard. When life gets tough • Ask yourself, "What can I still control?" • Find one part of the situation that can make you better. • Notice one physical ability you still have and appreciate it. If you want to take the next step, try one or two items from the checklist this week. Small habits compound quickly. ------ If you want more insights every Friday morning, subscribe to Joe Pulizzi's Tilt newsletter at https://www.thetilt.com/.
