CW: Brief mentions of rape, child abuse, and filicide It’s Zed-Word Week on Pod Sematary! Chris & Kelsey tackle two comedy zombie flicks (combies? zomedies?) with varying results! The Classic Film: The Return of the Living Dead (1985) “When two bumbling employees at a medical supply warehouse accidentally release a deadly gas into the air, the vapors cause the dead to rise again as zombies” (IMDb.com). If you ever thought Chris and Kelsey were broken on the inside, their opinions on this cult classic that’s seemingly beloved by everyone probably won’t help. The Modern Film: Shaun of the Dead (2004) “A man's uneventful life is disrupted by the zombie apocalypse.” (IMDb.com). Do you ever think about what the Edgar Wright Ant-Man would have been like? Chris does. Kind of a lot. Get more at podsematary.com! Howard Chackowicz visits the Gateway to explain what music he does not like (Chris De Burgh, Joy Division, Kraftwerk, and The Beatles!!?!) and what he does (Queen especially "Don't Stop Me Now", Free To Be You & Me, Can, and "Moonlight Serenade"). Eventually he explains the decidedly non-musical reasons for his initial interest in the album "Jazz" by Queen. Along the way we discuss where to get the best lox in Montreal and he explains the origin story of how he worked against adversity to become a drummer. Speak English Now Podcast: Learn English | Speak English without grammar.
“Don’t stop me now. Cause I’m having a good time. I don’t wanna stop at all!” Hello, everybody! I am Georgiana your English teacher and founder of SpeakEnglishPodcast.com. My mission is to help you speak English fluently. Speaking English is easier than it seems! You just have to use the right material and techniques. Today I’m going to talk about a band named Queen and the legendary Freddie Mercury. And with a mini-story, you’re going to practice your speaking in English while learning fascinating facts about Freddie. Have you heard or a band named Queen? Of course, you have. I’m just kidding. :) And how much do you know about their singer and songwriter Freddie Mercury? Some people believe that Mercury was British, but did you know that he was born in Zanzibar, September 1946? You probably guessed by now that his real name wasn’t Freddie Mercury. His birth name was Farrokh Bulsara. I was curious about how to pronounce his name, so I have done my research, though I’m still not sure I’m pronouncing it correctly. Did you know that Freddie was born with four extra teeth in the back of his mouth? He never fixed his teeth because he feared it would ruin his voice. In 1964 Freddie's family moved to England, and in 1966, he enrolled in Ealing College of Art to study graphic illustration. There he met Tim Staffell who introduced him to his band Smile. Watching Smile made Freddie realize that he really wanted to be in a band himself. Therefore, after he finished his diploma in graphic art and design, he joined a band called Ibex, playing the lead guitarist. Later on, he formed the band Queen in 1970 with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. He wrote numerous hits for Queen, including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Somebody to Love," "Don't Stop Me Now," and "We Are the Champions." He also conducted a solo career and was a guest producer and musician for other artists. READ THE FULL TEXT HERE: speakenglishpod.com

We had some technical problems and life pressures, so this one is a bit shorter than usual. Let us know if you like the shorter format. In this episode, Shana and Daniel discuss Doctor Who Series 8, Episode 8: "Mummy on the Orient Express." Main Topic: Mummy on the Orient Express. An all-too brief synopsis. A slightly longer synopsis. Guest stars. A completely different Doctor. A completely different Clara. Felt like David Tennant. Not a general but a scientist. Not misogynistically weak. Jamie Mathieson. Paternalistic Twelve. Glitchy smiles. Caring Capaldi. Heroic Twelve. Not wanting to burst the bubble. Addiction to the Doctor. Holding out hope. Why is Clara traveling with the Doctor again? Comparison to McCoy. Lying. Agency, consent, and moral culpability. Shipping Maisie and Clara. Clara's magic hair and the TARDIS wig room. Praise for Jenna Coleman's acting. Cinematography. A rushed ending. Justification of the Doctor's decisions. Exploring darkness intelligently. Wrapping up. Finally! An episode that's less-than-controversial! Well...for the most part. We Verities can find controversy just about anywhere. Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Liz as we muse over all there is to love about this story. Of course, I did mention controversy...though this time it's minor and mostly revolves around the flirting (or lack thereof, depending whom you agree with)--but that argument will never die. What did you think of the mummy? Or the total absence of flirting? Or the addiction angle? Or anything else? Let us know in the comments! ^E Also covered [links on our site]: Kat enjoys a couple Doctor Who-related videos: the 12th Doctor comic trailer! Foxes performing "Don't Stop Me Now"! Liz cheats by being happy about The Guardian's recap of "Mummy on the Orient Express"! Comedian Dustin Meadows hosts a weekly show wherein he watches his favorite movies with other comedians who've never seen the film before. Dustin is joined by guest host Danny Stratton as they take Tim Myers through a special three-part series tackling Edgar Wright's Cornetto (or Blood & Ice Cream if you're nasty) Trilogy. We take a look at Shaun Of The Dead, mining it for deep themes of disenfranchisement, arrested development and how Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" would never be the same again for any of us.
