3 Contrasts of Your Spiritual Life to Guide You in Trials1 - Low to High (9)2 - High to Low (10a)3 - Life to Death (10b-11)
At Times, Are You Unrepentant in Your Spiritual Life and, Therefore, “storing up wrath for yourself on the {Judgement} day of wrath”? MESSAGE SUMMARY: Penitence is not a once in a lifetime occurrence. Penitence is a daily and moment by moment occurrence. None of us is perfect, and not one of us always does the will of God. Paul, in Romans 2:4-5, is unequivocal in establishing the need for your continuing penitence and the consequences of your not repenting of your sins on a real-time basis: “Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.". Therefore, we all need to repent and return to the Lord. You can become cocky and arrogant in your spiritual life – “I am a Christian; God has done this for me.”. As the Psalmist tells us in Psalms 32:5 of his confession and his penitence: “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,' and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.". You can rest on our perceived laurels; but these perceptions, of personal goodness and righteousness, can lead you quickly to a need for your penitence. TODAY'S PRAYER: Most merciful God I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I might delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I will rejoice in Him (Philippians 4:4). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Mathew 3:8-11; Romans 2:4-5; 2 Corinthians 7:10; Psalms 140:1-13. A WORD FROM THE LORD WEBSITE: www.AWFTL.org. Your spiritual life is an incredibly significant part of your life. It affects your inner peace, sense of purpose, mission, morality, personal growth, experience of gratitude, and even your health. As we begin a new year, consider incorporating some new spiritual practices into your life, including daily Bible study, reading Christian books, daily prayer, fasting, listening to Christian music, going to church, attending a midweek fellowship, offering sacrifices, and evangelizing. Daily Bible study (Psalm 19:7-11; 119:103) Reading Christian books (Proverbs 18:15) Daily prayer (Philippians 4:6-7; Psalm 145:18-19; Luke 5:16) Meditation (Psalm 1:1-3; 77:11-12) Fasting (Matthew 6:16-18; Psalm 35:13) Listening/singing Christian music (Colossians 3:16) Going to church (Psalm 22:22; 35:18; 95:6-7) Attending a midweek fellowship (Hebrews 10:24-25) Offering sacrifices (Deuteronomy 12:11-12; Proverbs 3:9-10) Evangelizing (Matthew 5:13-16; Romans 10:14-15) Why not take advantage of this season to incorporate some new spiritual practices to deepen your walk with God and your effectiveness in the world? The post Focus on Your Spiritual Life first appeared on Living Hope.
River City Church - Discover - Connect - Grow Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we continue with our series called Soul Care. Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman. Fact: We need to reacquaint ourselves with our limitations (which we don't like to consider or even admit). Yes, our possibilities are practically endless; we are, after all, made “in the image of God.” Still, we're also made “from the dust.” That we're made in the image of God means we're rife with potential (etc.). That we're made from the dust means that we have limitations. Accepting limitations – while painful – can also be freeing (and, it is being honest with ourselves). How so? Because it means we don't have to be God (we can get rid of our Messiah-complexes)! AND, Jesus, the Messiah, invites us to enter his rest! Have you? What's The Greatest Challenge to Your Spiritual Life? The answer: Time. People today are just too busy to live emotionally healthy & spiritually rich and vibrant lives. This is taking a toll on our relationships with God & others. We need a “slowdown spirituality.” I'll whet appetites by highlighting the problem, and I'll share that in this series we'll get solutions! We are a welcoming and diverse community of people who know how challenging life can be but have discovered the benefit and blessing of facing those challenges in the context of intentional relationships and community. Check us out: you won't be disappointed! If you haven't attended River City Church for awhile, what is holding you back? We would love to have you come in person to worship with us. We welcome you to join us for in person service every Sunday @ 1 PM. Our Café opens at 12:15pm. We are located at 215 South Street, Cambridge, Ontario. God bless you today and hope to see you soon. River City Church - Discover - Connect - Grow Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we continue with our series called Soul Care. Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman. We all long for more - more life, richer community, deeper meaning. Many of us are stitching together something we call life. But the maps we've been handed, the way of life we've received, isn't leading us to where we long to go. Meanwhile, the pace of life and of change continue to increase at a rate that far exceeds our ability to recalibrate. As a result, many of us have lost our connection with God and we're beginning to lose our connection with one another. This is reeking havoc on our souls and even our families! Is there hope for something more? There is, but this will require something of us. See, this life that is truly life is not the result of specific decisions we make, but about patterns we establish. On Sunday, September 17, River City Church launches a series that will help you discover these patterns. It's often quoted that “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again – and expecting different results.” But that's exactly what we do. This series is your opportunity to do something different! What's The Greatest Challenge to Your Spiritual Life? The answer: Time. Amen. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be a complainer. (Philippians 2:14). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14). In our recent episode “Heaven and Hell in Judaism” (jewishboston.com/the-vibe-of-the-tribe-podcast-heaven-and-hell-in-judaism), co-hosts Miriam and Dan dove into Jewish teachings about the afterlife with guest Rabbi Baruch HaLevi. That conversation led us to another question: If the soul endures, can we make contact with departed loved ones? And how might that fit into Jewish ideas about the journey of our souls through this world and “the world to come”? So, we are happy to welcome Rabbi HaLevi back to the podcast, this time with his sister, Rebecca Rosen, a professional spiritual medium. Rosen views herself as an ambassador between “the spirit world and our day-to-day world.” For two decades, she's been relaying messages from the dead to loved ones and others seeking to communicate with them and receive wisdom and healing. Rosen is the author of several best-selling books, including “Spirited: Unlock Your Psychic Self and Change Your Life,” “Awaken the Spirit Within: Ten Steps to Ignite Your Life & Fulfill Your Divine Purpose” and “What the Dead Have Taught Me About Living Well.” She recently launched her own podcast, Small Medium at Large, with the goal of empowering people to live with intention by reminding them that they are never alone, that they are divinely guided throughout their life journey. Rabbi HaLevi is the former rabbi of Congregation Shirat Hayam in Swampscott. He's the author of “Spark Seekers: Mourning With Meaning; Living With Light” and co-author of “Revolution of Jewish Spirit: How to Revive Ruakh in Your Spiritual Life, Transform Your Synagogue & Inspire Your Jewish Community.” He is also the co-founder and executive director of Soul Centered, a spiritual center for individuals seeking meaning, purpose and healing in midlife and beyond. Join us for this wide-ranging discussion that touches on grief, doubt, faith, validation, hope and tikkun hanefesh (repairing the soul). We sweep back the veil on the paranormal, reincarnation and the soul's journey. Please note that this episode includes a brief mention of suicide that some may find upsetting. If you are struggling or need support, please call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Edited by Jesse Ulrich, with music by Ryan J. Sullivan.
Have you ever found yourself in that conversation? The one where someone mentions something about death, and someone else chimes in with, “Jews don't believe in an afterlife!” Some of us have definitely experienced that conversation, especially after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (z”l). As messages about the Jewish icon being reunited with her husband and other departed heroes were casually tossed around on social media, some well-meaning folks clapped back: “That's offensive! Jews don't believe that!” What if we told you that Judaism has plenty to say about the afterlife? And yes, Judaism has detailed descriptions of both heaven and—you guessed it—hell. Our article, “Do Jews Believe in Hell?” by Rabbi Dr. Baruch HaLevi (https://www.jewishboston.com/ive-always-read-that-jews-dont-believe-in-the-concept-of-hell-is-that-true/), has been read almost a half-million times and continues to be the most popular piece of content on the site. Rabbi HaLevi joins Dan and Miriam to revisit his article and discuss why people are so intrigued—and confused—about Judaism's teachings on life after death. Tune in to learn all about the soul's journey through Gehenna (the “way station” hell in Judaism), the rewards of olam habah (“the world to come”), reincarnation, resurrection, communicating with the dead and more.
