Two longtime Chicago White Sox fans and friends burden the world with their Sox takes. Hosts Dan Feeney and Don James.
Daniel Feeney and Donald James
The Hurl boys check in for a late night episode. We recap some of the issues with the hitting, there are a lot. Looking down at the farm there is a good Montgomery and a bad one. Brief episode but we'll be back once we've seen a bit more of what Meidroth and Quero have to offer the White Sox lineup.
We start things off talking about the latest new from our namesake, Mark Buehrle. The hurl boys go over the Garrett Crochet returns, highlighted by C Kyle Teal and OF Braden Montgomery. We spend a brief moment taking one last look back at the 2017-2024 CWS. Then we kick off a White Sox franchise draft, picking over the husk of a ball club to select ten Sox players we would take to start our organization.
The Chicago White Sox are in shambles once again, and the Tuna Boys are here for it. This is a hogbeast of an episode so pace yourself. We chat one last time about the Crochet and Robert trade market. We whisper about the dream that was Yoan Moncada. Don identifies some free agents who are realistic targets for the team and can shore up some respectability.
We ask the big question... should Don go all in and buy a Drew Thorpe jersey? After that we get into the reality of a Crochet extension within the current organizational cheapskatery or if a mega deal is coming soon. We each pitch our top draft pick for the upcoming MLB draft. Things get out of control in yet another Moncada tribute.
Well Sox fans, we survived the worst losing streak in franchise history. What new lows can this team achieve? We talk about trading Crochet or Robert before the deadline. We talk Josh Gibson taking the top spot on MLB career and season leaderboards. I give a quick recap of the White Sox Garage Sale. And don't forget to write in our veteran pitch framer Martin Maldonado five times a day for the All Star Game.
The Chicago White Sox are 6-22 but undefeated in the Tommy Pham era. We found our latest rent-a-hero. We talk about expectations versus reality and how the team responded to a lifeless offense. After that the focus shifts to some of the organizations youths as the Barons roster tears up AA. We hit on some classic material like Jerry being a cheap a$$.
Well, well, well. It's Opening Day and the Sox are in first place in the AL Central at 0-0. We go over the opening day roster release highlighting our top five hitters. We have some hopes for the pitching staff but are a bit sheepish on their stamina. Don lays out a portfolio of AAA to F- bets to look at for MLB and the Sox.
The White Sox have traded starter Dylan Cease for a prospect pack from the Padres. We discuss the returns and if the Sox dropped the ball here. Is Luis Robert next? We destroy a shipment of Fanatics jerseys live on air. We wrap up with some Spring Training thoughts and regular season games/series we are trying to go to this year.
The Tuna Boys are back. The Chicago White Sox are about to kickoff 2024 and we get caught up on all the stories that have happened since October. We start with the proposed 78 stadium deal. We hit on the parting of ways with fan favorite play-by-play man Jason Benetti. We touch on the 2024 team and our general feelings about the team now. We will be back with Spring Training updates!
Well, we thought we were garbage enough. Chris Getz had further designs on the torture of Chicago White Sox fans. Tim Anderson was unceremoniously shown the door as the CWS declined his one year option. Don and I piss and moan about it for awhile. We chat a bit about the World Series and our plans for the afternoon.
Thanks to all listeners who tuned in through this train wreck of a season. Don and I pick through the wreckage of the 2023 Chicago White Sox season (61-101; 4th ALC) in the Hurler's regular season finale. This year undoubtedly tested every CWS fan's convictions and how much attention you can pay attention to these losers. We're not pulling punches this ep. THESE GUYS SUCK. After a bleak year, we sadly may be heading into a bleak era, the dawn of Getz. Them Hurl boys still be yakking though. On the plus side Don is back on the Moncada Kool-Aid. That's something. 2023 Credits: Dan Feeney - Host, Producer, Beni-boy Don James - Host, Don Moncada Victoria Segura - Episode Artist, Dylan Cease's #1 fan Steve Zelenko - Hurl theme music, NEW VERSION COMING 2024!!! 'Cousin Brian' Feeney - Guest and regular commentator Ryan 'Houdini' Mirabedini - Guest, Cleveland Baseball Team fan
Call off the worldwide search. Chris Getz is the new singular voice for the Chicago White Sox. We discuss the actual firing of Rick and Kenny, the 'hiring process' the Sox went through, Chris Getz's resume and the press conference. We grade the hire, Don comes out a little more neutral than I. We touch on the magic blubber bullet and Faygo.
The White Sox have mercifully moved on from the 2023 season with a number of trades. We discuss the exits of Lucas Giolito, Lance Lynn, Jake Burger and others. We talk about the prospects that interest us the most from the group the Sox acquired. Don's Moncada fandom reaches a new low towards the end of the episode as he offers Moncada + $20 million for a 19yo A ball player to the Red Sox.
With all hope for the 2023 campaign going wayside for the White Sox, we look to the trade deadline. Since recording the sox traded Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. It has begun. Project 2025
The White Sox stay just out of reach in the AL Central. Luis Robert has entered every batting cheat-code. We debate first half MVP, LVP, Cy Young and Cy Yuck. I share some details about a visit to Toronto's Rogers Center and a potential heist. We wrap up the show with some Indiana Jones hype.
What is the identity of the 2023 Chicago White Sox? We chat about identity across the roster from our 'stars' to the chode squad. Does Grifol stink, do the players stink, or both After trying to hold off on trade deadline talk, we finally give in and start talking trade bait. We wrap up the episode by selecting the second baseman for the Our Team. That quickly devolves into Gordon Beckham talk.
The Sox are playing pretty good baseball. Still completely out of contention at the moment but it is watchable. We welcome guest Ryan Mirabedini to level some harsh Guardian-fan truths. Michael Kopech, the lord of grease, has found something very special lately and we discuss what we're seeing. Eloy Jimenez returns to the lineup for now. Is Gavin Sheets an everyday player? Will Tim Anderson figure out how to be a positive WAR player before the front office start moving pieces?
The Buehrler Boys are happy to bring on our first guest Brian Feeney, cousin and Sox fan. We talk about the butt ugly losing streak and the so-so stabilization. As always we beg, lobby and scheme for enormous changes in the organization front office. We sing the praises of Cubs bench player Nick Madrigal and scratch our heads at the White Sox roster. Unfortunately, we had some technical difficulties so we end a bit abruptly. Pod is still nuts tho. Ocean Sound Effect from Pixabay
The season is underway and the Chicago White Sox have stumbled a bit. We take a look at the Corpse Watch with multiple key injuries early in the season. We talk about the resurgent Burger and his role on this team. Don expresses some concerns with Andrew Vaughn's longterm power potential. It is still early but the team is heading towards a big 13 game stretch against PHI(h), TB(a), TOR(a), TB(h) that will reveal the course of the first half. We conclude the episode with a new segment, the Hurlers' Our-Time Team. We debate the best CWS centerfielders from 1987 to now. We will continue building the roster in future episodes.
Don lays out the framework for some solid long shot Chicago White Sox bets to make this season. We talk about MVP, Rookie of the Year, Cy Young, divisional races, player counting stats and World Series odds we like. Dan offers some shook betting takes after taking a beating last season.
The Tuna Boys have returned to talk Chicago White Sox baseball. We focus the conversation around Spring Training, the World Baseball Classic and general 2023 CWS vibes. We exchange some pick ems: Grandal v Moncada, Giolito v Kopech, Graveman v Lopez and Eloy v Robert. Please follow our new Instagram account managed by the lovely Victoria Segura. Special thanks to Vicky for the new podcast artwork.
*** This episode was recorded before MLB announced their investigation into Mike Clevinger for domestic abuse and child abuse. We get caught up on all things Chicago White Sox since our December bonus episode.
The hurlers stop by to check in before winter meetings. We start off discussing the 2022 MLB playoffs and how the Sox compare to the Phillies and Astros. We talk about new manager Pedro Grifol and his catching videos on youtube. We talk about some departures from the roster and what we are eyeing for acquisitions. This was recorded before Mike Clevinger was signed.
The Sox keep on losing, and losing, and losing, and losing. We go over some of the pains of the season and some of the high points. We chat about what to do at SS and 1B next season. We go over some completely asinine grades for players this season.
The winning streak has arrived!!! It has been fun to be a Sox fan in September. After excelling at meaningless singles form months, power hitting is here. Led by Elvis Andrus the Sox finally look something like a powerful MLB offense. We discuss the looming conflicts including the return of TLR's zombie-corpse, and what to do at SS when TA7 is healthy. We chat about the 'sweeping' MLB rule changes. Don't stop now boys!
The Sox were hot... now they are not. Don is now Dom and owes lobster dinners all over town. We discuss if the recent five game streak was the highpoint of the season. I'll bring up some fun details from the Kaskade concert. We nail TLR for being a disaster again and again, most recently with handling Michael Kopech. 40 games to go, in some ways it can't end soon enough.
We discuss the happenings and for the White Sox the non-happenings of the 2022 trade deadline. The Sox made one move exchanging third string catcher Reese McGuire for veteran, lefty Jake Diekman. We talk more about what the Sox didn't do, that other teams did do. Is it right to stand pat? We discuss some players who were moved. What did the Twins do? Got better. The Sox continue to bob around .500. Hopefully that improves with a healthier lineup.
After the All Star break the Chicago White Sox find themselves at exactly .500 in third place in the AL Central. We do mid season honors for MVP and L(east)VP. Luis Robert has light headedness and blurred vision. He was sent to the IL undiagnosed. Don pitches his Juan Soto to the White Sox. The Sox and Guardians face off in a big four game series. The Friday game may have been the worst game of baseball this Tuna Boy has ever seen. We discuss the grind and how it is not going away.
The White Sox are in the middle of the most important stretch of the season and it's been more of the meh. HISTORY!!!! No, not the good kind. The CWS invent a new triple play. Gavin Sheets and Dylan Cease have looked good recently. Are we the dumbest and worst coach team in the league? Should the CWS pursue pitching or hitting if they end up buyers?
After listening to the last episode, it's time for some optimism! Dylan Cease, getting healthy, more than half the season left, two pretenders ahead of us. It ain't over yet! It's been pretty ugly but every day is another opportunity to turn everything around. We catch up before the sox hit the road against the LAA and SFG. Yermin revenge tour?
The Sox are showing some signs of life. They're still behind in the division but Jake Burger and Danny Mendick are keeping us alive. Pito is starting to look like MVPito again. Another rash of injuries hits the team like it always does. Moncada is a dumpster, maybe the five-hit game wakes him up.
The White Sox enter a series with Toronto at 23-23. The Sox are treading water and every game has been a grind so far. Our best player just went on the IL for what hopefully is a short absence. Keuchel has been DFA'd, ciao. The hurlers try and find some bright sides out there but it has been pretty brutal for Sox fans this month and this season. This team are heading into a challenging slate of games leading to the All Star Break.
The White Sox return to some semblance of baseball with a hot streak. This episode was recorded before Naylor became our a new divisional enemy so keep that in mind. Sox pitching and defense has been great, the hitting has been well enough. Let's hope the Sox can build on this momentum and see some bigger contributions from Jose and Yaz.
We're gone for four weeks and the Sox have been stinking it up in the interim. We trash nearly the entire roster, ownership, management and facility infrastructure in a rage fueled pod. Let's hope the pale hose can turn it around this week against the Cubs.
Ladies and gentleman, baseball. Opening Day is upon us. The Sox acquire A.J. 'The Answer' Pollock for Craig Kimbrell. Does this fill the holes some Sox fans have been loudly pointing to? A new batch of injuries leaves the pitching staff pretty weak heading into the season. Johnny Cueto will pitch for the CWS in 2022, we discuss this reality.
Buehrler and Hurler are back at it again. The lockout is over! Mark Buehrle is on the HoF ballot for another year! The Sox signed a bunch of maybe bums. We get into the latest offseason acquisitions and one major departure. We will miss you Hard Carl. We're probably a bit rusty but we'll get there. Season Two!!!
We're a month out from baseball being played and the deck is getting reshuffled as we head into free agency. Will the White Sox go out and get us the piece(s) we need to get to the next level? We discuss some expiring contracts, who and what we want targeted in free agency. Many thanks to all the listens for this season and we will be back bigger and better next season. Special thanks to Steve Zelenko for the pod theme song and Dan Diaczun for the corpse watch alternate pod art.
The White Sox season came to an end after a 3-1 defeat to the Houston Astros in the ALDS. There were some great moments but overall a disappointing end to the season. We discuss what stood out in the series, mostly the talent gap between the Sox and Astros. Heading into the 2022 season with more questions than we anticipated.
Who doesn't love a 5 hour baseball game? The Sox bats woke up in an epic home playoff game. The bullpen shut down the Astros late. Catcher shenanigans. Leury Garcia is the hero we deserve. Ryan Terpera reminds everyone Houston cheated to win a World Series. A huge day for the Sox and we chat about how it was watching the game live at Guaranteed Rate. *** Game 4 has been postponed to Tuesday at 1p, announced after recording.
The Sox nailed down the third spot in the playoffs and we know the schedule. We're giving out season awards and maybe more honorable mentions. We get into matchups heading into the ALDS series against the Astros. What are the biggest concerns and strengths going into this series? BONUS: Stay tuned after the episode for unrelated nonsense about Ritz crackers and old school pants fittings!
We're in! The Chicago White Sox clinch the AL Central for the fourth time in team history and head to back to back playoff appearances for the first time in team history. We talk about who has some work to put in before season end. Don does everything in his power to trade Eloy Jiminez. Yasmani Grandal fan club appreciation as well. The hurlers catch up on all things Sox before the playoff run.
The Sox are playing .500 baseball since the ASG. We talk about the if a team can play compelling baseball without a division rival. How do we stack up in the AL? Player of the month debate between Pito and Luis Robert. Who is the best relief pitching option from a field of poo? The Field of Dreams game was a classic and we go over the event. We ask a number of questions on Kevin Costner's role in the game, culminating in a Waterworld v. Field of Dreams ultimatum.
They're back... Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert rejoin the club and the Sox are really looking like a World Series team. Total beat down of the Cubs feels so good. Rodon bounces back. We offer some apologies for bad takes. We got the Field of Dreams game coming up and we're pumped... not so much for the limited edition dog fur fitted caps.
Blockbusters on blockbusters on blockbusters in this season's trade deadline. The White Sox got into the mix acquiring Cesar Hernandez, Ryan Tepera and Craig Kimbrel. Nicky 'Two Strikes' we hardly knew ye. Eloy is back in the lineup... and he's gone. We rank Sox starters one through four for the playoff rotation.
Another All Star Game has come and go and it was one to remember. Throw the AL ASG jerseys in the trash though. Sox slop the 'stros. Eloy and Robert are coming back baby! So who's going down to the minors though? Don pitches a crazy trade that just may make the Sox unstoppable. We go over some of the preseason bets we placed. Spoiler: IT'S BAD.
Sox and Twins rivalry is back baby! After a triumphant series against the Twins the Sox laid a few eggs in Detroit. The rookies keep on crushing the ball. Updated Rodon, Lynn and Giolito contract rankings. Trevor Story or Starling Marte in the future? BONUS: We execute a trade in our fantasy league on the air, involving one Sox stud and a former NL MVP.
The Sox offense has disappeared the past week. We talk about some bringing some farmhands up to get a look before the deadline. Yasmani Grandal is a man beast. Long term Sox rotation discussions in light of an injury filled season. Frank Thomas v Gordon Beckham for best guest broadcast.
MLB is putting goo on trial and the hurlers are yakking about it. Spin rates are up across the league and they have had enough. We talk about Sox who may be most impacted by goo regulation. How does the league monitor goo? League sanctioned goo? Link to SI article: https://www.si.com/mlb/2021/06/04/sticky-stuff-is-the-new-steroids-daily-cover
The hurlers are on corpse watch again, this time for beloved second baseman Nick Madrigal. Nick has been added to the 60 day DL with the chance of season ending surgery. We talk about potential replacements and also just how great of a player Nick is. Special shout out to friend of the podcast, Dan Diaczun, for creating the corpse watch logo.
What have these Sox been up to the past couple weeks? A good amount of winning. Is the Yerminator yerminated? Yoan Moncada is the best player on the Sox right now. We talk about pitcher scenarios and roster management with Kopech and Jace Fry becoming available soon. More fictional t shirts are pitched as well.
It did not take long for Corpse Watch to be called into duty. While bludgeoning the AL Central, the Sox brewed up some inner conflict between the Yerminator and TLR. It's old school, unwritten rules and we don't like it one bit. Let the Yerm eat.
