Brice Turang's Mother's Day walk-off homer provided a great capper to the weekend and added a dash of nostalgia to a Yankees sweep. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe also discuss the latest superstar performance from Jacob Misiorowski, a wild defensive decision by the Yankees and the triumphant return of Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn to the lineup. What about the other injury guys like Brandon Woodruff, Christian Yelich and Quinn Priester? Is the team any closer to making a change at shortstop? With Ángel Zerpa facing Tommy John surgery, will the Brewers ever send another player to the World Baseball Classic? In Three Up Three Down (38:30), they discuss CC Sabathia on the wall of honor, an unwelcome flashback, some ABS weirdness and the king of vulture wins, Aaron Ashby. In Remembrew When (58:00), there's no choice but to discuss Bill Hall on Mother's Day, and in Curt Blanche (1:01:00), Curt believes there's a far greater Mother's Day homer that we never discuss. Then, JR is joined by Brewers reliever Jake Woodford (1:07:00), whose Major League debut was delayed in the strangest of ways, when he was holed up with the St. Louis Cardinals in Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel following a COVID-19 outbreak among the team. Then, he's joined by prospect Andrew Fischer (1:13:00), who hit two home runs on Sunday and continues to pound the ball for Single-A Wisconsin.
Tyler Glasnow is pitching like an absolute ace, but his history of back issues and a current workload of 140 projected innings make him the ultimate sell-high candidate. Joe and Corey debate whether to flip him now for a slow-starting superstar before the inevitable injury risk catches up to his elite surface stats. The waiver wire is filled with multi-positional assets this week, including Casey Schmidt, Brooks Lee, and Andrew Vaughn. The guys also look at Brice Matthews, Bryson Stott, and pitchers Payton Tolle and Max Meyer, though they question if these arms are being overlooked in too many leagues. Agustin Ramirez is officially this week's rage drop after being sent down to Triple-A to work on his defense. Other drops discussed include Jung Hoo Lee, Tanner Bibee, and Emmet Sheehan, with the hosts noting that Sheehan's increased home run rate and hard contact make him someone else's problem. Rankings risers are led by Brandon Marsh, Jordan Walker, and Mickey Moniak, while Jack Perkins is surging as the potential new lockdown closer for the Athletics. Fallers include Rafael Devers, Luis Robert Jr., Joe Ryan, Spencer Strider, and Bubba Chandler, who is struggling significantly with his command. In the trade market, Corey Seager and Logan Webb stand out as premier buy-low targets despite their slow starts. Eury Perez remains an upside play, while Oneil Cruz and Justin Wrobleski join Glasnow as players to move now while their value is peaking. Jack and Spencer discuss what the return of Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn means for the Brewers' lineup, their struggles with using the ABS challenge system, the state of the starting rotation, and more.
Tyler Glasnow left his start after just one inning with back tightness, and Cole Ragens was pulled after 3 IP with a 3 mph velo drop and left tricep/elbow soreness. Both situations are worth monitoring closely heading into the weekend, and Joe Bond has the fantasy fallout on today's episode. Joe runs through the Rankings Risers and Fallers, with Brandon Marsh, Jordan Walker, Mickey Moniak, and Jack Perkins trending up, while Zach Neto, Luis Robert Jr., Joe Ryan, Spencer Strider, and Bubba Chandler are trending down. Rafael Devers shows up on both sides of the ledger. On Studs and Duds, Andy Pages, Marcus Semien, Rafael Devers, Andrew Vaughn, Jack Flaherty, Bryan Woo, Paul Skenes, and Shane McClanahan stood out, while Munetaka Murakami, Bryce Eldridge, Teoscar Hernandez, and Gunnar Henderson had rough outings. Today's FanDuel Bet of the Day features Nico Hoerner at 2+ Hits, Runs, and RBI at -160, or the longer shot at 3+ for +140. Brewers take a series in Washington, but lose Game 1 in St. Louis. Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn make their return on Monday so finally getting a little heathier. Good news on Brandon Woodruff and not great news on Quinn Priester. Packers get their backup QB replacement for Malik Wilis; veteran Tyrod Taylor. And we FINALLY got the Jonathan Gannon/Cam Achord press conferences on Monday. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Brewers won both series this week, but the week was marred by injuries to Brandon Woodruff, Jacob Misiorowski, Ángel Zerpa and even a rehabbing Jackson Chourio. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss how the Brewers can weather all of them, mainly because most should be reasonably short term, but it's certainly leaving the team with questions heading into the new week. Will the offense finally have more punch once Chourio and Andrew Vaughn are back? Is there anything else they can do to create a more complete lineup? Quinn Priester's rehab outings have been rough, too. But, the team still has ample starting options, Misiorowski looks incredible, Kyle Harrison likewise looks great and William Contreras enjoyed a monster week with the bat. Do they dare talk about ... Greg Jones? In Three Up Three Down (37:00), they check in on some minor-league intrigue, a tantalizing debut for Brian Fitzpatrick, ABS and more. Remembrew When (49:30) goes back in time to just last year for more Miz Magic and in Curt Blanche (52:30), Curt says farewell to a dear friend. Then, JR chats with Shane Drohan (58:45), who got his first career Major League win this week. They discuss his unusual relationship to baseball, the frenzy of getting taken during the COVID draft and how a sneaky injury derailed his Rule 5 opportunity.
Ronald Acuna Jr. is heading to the 10-day IL with a hamstring injury, and that's the biggest roster-shaking story on today's episode of First Cup Fantasy Baseball with host Corey Pieper. On the waiver wire today, Corey covers Andrew Vaughn (34%), Max Meyer (28%), Logan Henderson (19%), Nick Gonzales (13%), and Connor Prielipp (12%) as the top targets to pick up. Studs this weekend included Emerson Hancock's 14-strikeout gem, Max Meyer going seven innings with one hit, Cody Bellinger going 4-for-4 with two homers, and William Contreras putting up back-to-back four-hit games. On the dud side, Rhett Lowder, Zac Gallen, Chase Dollander, and Bryan Woo all had ugly outings. The injury list is long this week — Ryan Helsley has elbow inflammation, Ranger Suarez left his start early with a hamstring issue, Joe Ryan left after one batter with elbow discomfort, Ronny Mauricio is out 6-8 weeks with a fractured thumb, and Ryan Pepiot is done for the year with hip surgery. Don't miss the FanDuel Bet of the Day — Yankees -1.5 at +106 with Schlitter vs. Baz. First Cup Fantasy Baseball drops every weekday around 9 AM ET on The F6P Hour. Should you draft Francisco Alvarez at pick 221 after injuries derailed his breakout? Is Luis Robert Jr. a league-winning steal in the Mets lineup? Joe Bond, AJ Applegarth, and Corey Pieper break down 2026 fantasy baseball sleepers at every position—value targets outside the top 150 who can smash their ADP. The guys debate late-round steals like Carter Jensen (95.4 mph exit velo tied with Aaron Judge), Andrew Vaughn after his .308 Milwaukee breakout, and Matt McLain batting second for the Reds. Plus: Max Muncy's vision correction unlocked 18 homers in half a season, Dansby Swanson's boring-but-reliable 20/15 upside at pick 148, and why Chris Bubic at pick 200+ is absurd value compared to Spencer Strider at 100. Key debates: Francisco Alvarez: Can he finally stay healthy and unlock 30-homer upside? Luis Robert Jr. vs injury concerns: 30/30 potential or bust? Matt McLain batting second: Real breakout or batting average drain? Shota Imanaga's velocity up 3 mph: Spring training noise or legit bounce-back? Plus: Joe loves Bryan Reynolds (shocking no one), AJ goes all-in on Mets players, and Corey breaks down why Carter Jensen should catch full-time over Salvy Perez. Is he going to play full-time or just be a guy off the bench with the recent play of Andrew Vaughn?7.Arizona Fall League Previewa.I wrote a large post on Thursday of all the ranked players attending. We will discuss some of the players and who you are looking forward to seeing how they do?8.Listener Questions:a.Mac - Hey Rich, I'd be interested in yalls thoughts on Elly De La Cruz second half of the season? While he has been known to be streaky player the lack of home runs and even his normal stealing pace (past week he has started to get some again) during the second half has been bit confusing. Thanks!b.Collins - Should the Dodgers let Ohtani just come in as a RP in the playoffs and be a shutdown backend bullpen arm? c.Collins - FYPD: Roki was the consensus top pick last year. Of course, I took him. The next two top picks a year ago were Condon and Bazzana. How's that working out? Not great so far. With so many more top picks performing in the top round last year, how did a lot of us miss this, just bad luck or what? (Thinking of Kurtz, Burns, Cam, Cags, etc)d.David - Is O'Neil Cruz a bust at this point?e.Hoppy - Who's your favourite (and least favourite) fantasy baseball player of all time?f.Hoppy - find my interest levels go through natural ups and downs during the season, but no matter what happens in season I always seem come back with renewed vigour preseason, when prospect lists are published and drafts start again. Do you have the same experience and have you ever had thoughts about (gasp!) giving up fantasy baseball?g.Nick - When working a Dynasty League where you can keep anyone you want for any amount of time, what is the cut off of your rankings that you are willing to throw them back into the draft to see what else you can get? Top 300? Top 15 at position? And does that differ slightly on age, like willing to keep someone who is a lot younger or not so much older?i.Context: I am in a 12 team Dynasty league with normal roster positions, with a 15 person minor league roster in CBS. I find myself sometimes keeping too many players so I really only change over 1 or 2 on the active roster, then struggle to figure out who to cut when a prospect gets called up and wonder if I should cut more people out the gate to take some risks, to be willing to cut them for prospects.h.Tim - What are you doing with these last couple of faab periods to prepare your team for next year? 9.What one or two hitters are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB?10.What one or two pitchers are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB?
We're one month away from more Milwaukee playoff baseball. The Brewers have held their own during this long stretch without an off day, including an excellent series in Toronto, but a couple sloppy losses made it an uneven week. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss the bullpen's fatigue, particularly without injured closer Trevor Megill. How big of a loss is he? When Rhys Hoskins comes back, what happens with a struggling Andrew Vaughn? Another check in with the rotation after a tough outing from Brandon Woodruff, but Quinn Priester and Freddy Peralta continue to be nails, Jacob Misiorowski bounces back and ... Erick Fedde is here now? In Three Up Three Down (30:00), they the Andruw Monasterio experience, Jackson Chourio's surging return and thoughts on a backup catcher. In Remembrew When (55:30), JR looks back at a season opener, when something unrelated to the Brewers happened that also happened this week. Then, JR sits down with Brewers veteran reliever Shelby Miller (1:11:15), discussing his first tenure with the Brewers (when he didn't pitch in the big leagues), his near no-hitter and what's worked so well this year. By the time Roman Anthony is 30 years old, he will have made well over $100 million on MLB contracts alone. This stems from the Boston Red Sox latest extension which the 21-year-old rookie signed for eight years and $130 million. That number could go even higher if he hits certain markers. The earliest Anthony would be able to hit free agency is 2034, when he is 30, so the Red Sox will have their rookie star for the foreseeable future. Jake and Jordan give their thoughts on the deal and what it means for the future of the Red Sox.Andrew Vaughn has stepped into the spotlight in his new home of Milwaukee. The former 3rd overall pick struggled during his time on the White Sox. It got so bad that at the time of his last game with Chicago he had a -1.4 WAR, good for the worst in MLB. Since being traded to the Brewers, not only has his WAR turned around, but he also has an NL leading 1.146 OPS. Jake and Jordan dive into what sparked this turn around, if Vaughn can keep it going and what his career looks like going forward. A major league debut is happening on the diamond this weekend, but this person won't be wearing a glove. Jen Pawol is debuting as MLB's first female umpire in a regular season game. She is scheduled to be behind the plate for the series finale of the Marlins vs. Braves on Sunday, August 10. The guys discuss this historic moment. It's that time of the week.
