In this episode of Challenge Accepted, Frank and Thomas dive deep into the explosive finale of Daredevil: Born Again, exploring how Marvel's revival tackles the transition from Netflix grit to MCU polish. They break down Matt Murdock's near-death journey, the shocking Mayor Fisk reveal in Red Hook, the much‑talked‑about buzzing sound effect, and that unforgettable Punisher cameo and fight choreography. Along the way, they critique pacing hiccups from reshoots, analyze character arcs for Vanessa and Heather, and celebrate the stunt work that landed Marvel in this year's Oscars. Finally, they share their episode and season scores, preview upcoming geek culture releases, and look ahead to what a true street‑level MCU could mean for future heroes. Timestamps & Topics 00:00:00 – Introduction: Welcome to Challenge Accepted with Frank & Thomas 00:00:24 – Setting the Stage: Daredevil: Born Again finale and overall season context 00:01:14 – Personal Takes: Highs, lows, and comparisons to Game of Thrones pacing 00:02:16 – MCU Street‑Level: Anticipating The Defenders and beyond 00:02:44 – Kingpin as Mayor: Red Hook's true purpose revealed 00:03:02 – The Buzzing Effect: Sensory storytelling through sound design 00:05:11 – Reshoots & Pacing: How production changes show up in the finale 00:05:26 – Punisher Cameo: Shock factor and integration into the plot 00:07:29 – Fight Breakdown: Daredevil vs. Punisher stunt coordination 00:08:49 – Slow‑Motion Debate: Visual choices for Frank Castle's scenes 00:10:07 – Future of Street‑Level MCU: White Tiger, Spider‑Man's rogue gallery, and more 00:11:28 – Kingpin's Brutality: Sympathy vs. psychotic villainy 00:13:11 – Vanessa's Arc: From reluctant partner to full‑on Fisk supporter 00:14:09 – Breadcrumbs & Misdirects: Red Hook foreshadowing critique 00:17:20 – Heather's Loyalty: Therapist vs. criminal mastermind 00:18:26 – Foggy's Potential: Clues to a Season 2 comeback 00:19:22 – Scoring Session: Episode vs. season ratings 00:20:40 – Finale Cohesion: A cobbled finale pointing to a stronger Season 2 00:23:33 – Oscars & Stunts: Marvel's stunt team gets its due 00:29:43 – What's Next: Andor, Detective Pikachu, The Last of Us previews 00:31:39 – Closing & Sign‑Off: Reviews, social plugs, and Aloha send‑off Key Takeaways The finale delivers on street‑level MCU promise but feels uneven due to visible reshoots. Kingpin's Mayor reveal in Red Hook is brutal and sets the stage for a darker Defenders lineup. The Punisher cameo thrills, though predictability lessens its impact. Sound design—the buzzing in Bullseye's POV—adds immersive depth to Murdock's trauma. Vanessa's shifting allegiance highlights Fisk's influence but needs clearer breadcrumbs. Outstanding stunt work earns Marvel an Oscars spotlight and elevates fight sequences. A solid 3/5 for the finale; a strong 4/5 for the season as a whole. Memorable Quotes “I liked it a lot, but I didn't love it.” “This is the calm before the storm.” “Bullshit. He's been Kingpin since day one.” “Now we have a street level New York battle about to happen.” “When Daredevil steps out... the red light just shines on him.” Call to Action Enjoyed our breakdown? October 24, 1994 Atlanta Braves Pitcher Greg Maddux is named the National Leagues Cy Young award winner for the strike-shortened 1994 season. Maddux became the first player to win three consecutive Cy Young Awards in the National League and would add a 4th the following year. The 1994 Major League Players Association struck over their refusal to allow a league imposed salary cap. The 232 day strike halted the season with roughly 50 games left on each team's schedule and led to the cancellation of the World Series. Tony Gwynn was batting .394 with a legitimate chance to become the first .400 hitter since Ted Williams. San Francisco's Matt Williams, with 43 home runs, was on pace to at least tie Roger Maris's single season record of 61. And the doomed Montreal Expos, who in 2005 would become the Washington Nationals, had baseball's top record, 74-40 and would lose what would prove to be their only chance at the World Series. Other National League award winners included Houston Astros first baseman Jeff Bagwell who was MVP, and Los Angeles Dodger outfielder Raul Mondesi who was named Rookie of the year. The American League award winners were all unanimously selected. They included: Chicago White Sox first baseman Frank Thomas as MVP, Kansas City Royals pitcher David Cone as Cy Young, and Kansas City Royals designated hitter Bob Hamelin was Rookie of the Year.

- Harry Wismer- Frank ThomasIn 1958, Frank Thomas was having a career year with the Pittsburgh Pirates. At 29 years old, Thomas was in his eighth season with the Pirates and was selected for his third All-Star game. That year, he hit a career-high 35 home runs, finishing second in the National League, and drove in 109 runs, both personal bests. His performance earned him a fourth-place finish in the NL MVP voting. This radio interview captures Thomas during his most productive season in the majors. By this point, he had established himself as a power-hitting outfielder and occasional infielder for the Pirates. Thomas's 1958 campaign was particularly notable as it came after several solid but unspectacular seasons, showcasing his development as a hitter and his importance to the Pirates lineup. This would be his last season with Pittsburgh before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 1959.#FrankThomas #PittsburghPirates #1958MLBSeason #BaseballAllStar #PowerHitter

SEASON 2 EPISODE 98: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: You and I have 305 days until the election and the GOOD news is: if the Supreme Court rules Trump is immune from prosecution for anything he did while president OR if the Supreme Court rules the 14th Amendment DOESN'T disqualify him from the ballot OR if the Supreme Court rules both… Joe Biden can declare himself president for life, he can arrest the Supreme Court, and he can detain Trump without charges or trial and the Supreme Court has just ruled there's not a goddamned thing anybody can do about it, including them. Well thank god THAT'S settled. Happy New Year! I am mystified by the sanctimonious criticisms of Maine striking Trump from the ballot from its Senator Angus King and "Democratic" Congressman Jared Golden. They have decided the Constitution wasn't enough and decided on their own that we needed HIGHER BARRIERS before as a nation we could defend ourselves against a psychotic dictator-in-waiting who wants to turn the government into a personal revenge factory and oh by the way the only thing he's going to remember about YOU Angus King, is that you voted to impeach him. “Under the established Constitutional process," said Senator King from atop his high horse, "absent a final judicial determination of a violation of the 14th Amendment's disqualification clause, I believe the decision as to whether or not Trump should rest with the people as expressed in free and fair elections. This is the ultimate check within our Constitutional system,” This isn't a matter of interpretation for the courts, or for you, Senator King. It's what the 14thAmendment SAYS as opposed to what a fragment of your voters want you to tell them it says. What it SAYS is, your Senate AND the House have a right to REMOVE the disqualification of Donald Trump by a two-thirds vote. It exists. It exists right now. It only STOPS existing if you OVERRIDE IT. By 75 to 25, thank you. That's what it says. THAT is the ultimate check within our Constitutional System. I hope you can hear me up there floating on that cloud above it all. Speaking of, congratulations to The New York Times, which addresses disqualification by quoting Judge Michael Luttig, and balancing him with someone who wrote commercial scripts for Dunkin' Donuts and an L.A. democrat who went on Fox to say he's mad at Joe Biden. And congratulations to The Washington Post for buying out the only one of its reporters who got it - Greg Sargent. But genuine thinks to Green Day, which did what the rest of us can almost never do - pierce the MAGA/Trump Cult/Fascist bubble and show its cultists, to their shock, that they are not a majority and not at all liked. It's shocking that such penetrations come during Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve - but it's worth singing about! B-Block (27:45) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: She allegedly liquored up underaged teenagers at her daughter's 17th birthday party. Is she A) a drag queen B) a trans-gendered swimmer C) a librarian or D) the founder of the “Keeping Kids In School PAC” and former Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor?; The right-wing pundit who boasts of how The Statue of Liberty is better than any European art; The passing of Tom Foty. (35:25) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Fox kills the wrong Frank Thomas. Aaron Rodgers has now descended into using antisemitic tropes. And Michael Flynn Jr. sticks his father with a new name: "General Flynn-Bitch." C-Block (41:55) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: We're now in the 25th anniversary year of the night - before Game 1 of the World Series which I was covering for Fox - where an Atlanta hotel gave me a room next to a choir that spent the entire night practicing for a competition the next day. It then tried to make it up to me by offering me, instead...THE PRESIDENTIAL SUITE.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hour 1 Saquon Barkley has a regular ankle sprain. Boomer thinks he's going to miss a total of 4 games. Boomer just wants the Giants to come out of this game against the Niners with a healthy Daniel Jones. The Jets have still not signed another QB, meaning they are really giving Zach Wilson a chance. Having 2 Monday Night Football games on at the same time makes no sense. The Steelers beat the Browns in a defensive battle. Nick Chubb went down with a season ending knee injury. The Jets are going to have to add a QB in case Zach Wilson goes down. You need 3 on a team. What about Andy Dalton? He's on the Carolina Panthers. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and he's not feeling well. He is supposed to golf with Boomer & Gio today. Jerry has Mike & The Maddog mispronouncing names like ‘Gardner Minshew'. Jerry has audio from the Steelers defensive TDs last night in their win over the Browns. In the final segment of the hour, License Plate Guy has a video of Kayvon Thibodeaux sitting by himself on the Giants bench as the team celebrates Saquon's TD. Could he be the next Vernon Gholston? Some people are saying he's more concerned with his brand than playing well for the Giants. Hour 2 Last week Gio used the Dallas Cowboys as his knockout pick. He is considering using the Niners this week against the Giants. This season has turned so quickly that Gio is picking against the Giants and Jets in the knockout pool. The Jets are underdogs at home against the Patriots. That would not have happened with Aaron Rodgers. Gio wants to hear that the Jets called Carson Wentz or Andy Dalton. They have to do something other than continuing to throw out the ‘15 year old mormon', according to Gio. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Steelers beating the Browns. How's that Deshaun Watson contract looking now? After the Jets game, Cee Dee Lamb told Sauce Gardner he needs to learn to catch the ball. Joe Benigno was on with Evan and Tiki and he said he's been texting Rob Saleh. In the final segment of the hour, is Jerry too sick to play golf today with Boomer & Gio? Hour 3 Saquon Barkley will be out Thursday night as the Giants are in San Francisco. There are already a number of running backs that are out which is why teams don't want to pay them. A caller wants to know how many number one picks it would take to get Patrick Mahomes. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Steelers beating the Browns. The Browns lost Nick Chubb to a gruesome knee injury. Shannon Sharpe is clearly not a fan of Zach Wilson. Micah Parsons talked about being like a lion on the field chasing quarterbacks. Rich Ackerman did play-by-play for the Mets on Friday night and Jerry has a clip. In the final segment of the hour, Gio has a Knicks conspiracy theory involving Julius Randle.
