Hi, I'm Cartapouille, a french guy in a middle of a life crisis who is co-creating and hiking the HexaTrek, 3000km to cross France through the mountains! Coming summer 2022. I previously thru hiked the Via Adriatica in 2020. I also finished a small hike on the French Pyrenees following the GR10 for 150km. This is a daily short log to reassure my friends and family that I didn't die eaten by a bear or got blown up by a landmine. Insta: @cartapouille
This is it, this hiking adventure is coming to an end and I'm happy to think a bit about what it meant. Finishing in luxury to celebrate our accomplishments basically, it's been such a rollercoaster, but mostly positive really. thank you all for listening seriously
This is it, the end of the hiking, the time to just relax the legs and enjoy a burning hot shower !
Mistakes were made, after a fantastic morning dancing to the views, it's been a horrendous and long day to the next hut, because I foolishly thought it would be an easy one...
Today was probably one of the hardest days, but the payoff is legendary: a brand new hut just for us! It's probably close to one of my most legendary nights ever, pure exhaustion and perfect reward
after fighting on an overgrown trail, we decide to pitch the tent next to a shepherd hut. nothing could have prepared us for the kindest, most welcoming and smiling shepherd ever. Gotcha, you the man! And apparently, I can handle 8 vodkas on an empty stomach
after visiting Mutso, a village full of skulls from the plague era, we end up in a camp where others are having fun. so we join!
That is hiking at its purest: a loooong way up to a pass, and a "knee destroyer 9000" way down to reach a random cafe in the mountains. first time at 3500m!
The hike becomes real again as we wander through a valley to a pass, and are surprised to be invited into a brand new mountain hut part of a 32 milion euro project by construction workers
Finally we're back on our feet and walking! extremely easy and pleasant hike today, with scenic views without almost any physical effort. rewarded by a last stay in a guest house before going into the wild again!
Well seems like walking is too mainstream on a hike, so instead we stopped to make Khinkalis from scratch with our adopted Georgian family!
I found a way better way to go from point A to point B in the mountains: helicopters! why did nobody think about that before, come with me on a Hitch Heli ride!
Surprisingly, we managed to hike today. More surprisingly, we got drunk and uploaded that. helicopter pilots are something else
Not much to say, sickness is still there somehow, and hopefully by tomorrow we'll have slept it off! Only thing left is hope now ahah
A classic: waking up on a rest day extremely sick and needing to rest. for once it's not just me, but we sync our periods with Meagan and we're both sick
here we are back to civilisation! right before enjoying a deserved day off, we're blocked on our way to civilization by a broken bridge, but two Italians allow us to save some time!
Finally we're back into civilisation! After a visit of local guys at the camp, we stayed for bread and coffee (and chacha), then a few cute small villages and arrival in the "Paradise of Tusheti" wonderful guest house in Goglurta. amazing day!
You remember how I always complain usually in those podcasts about my own choices? here is worst! it was a rough day, on terrain that I truly hate, rough on the joints and feet, with my arch ennemies: landslides. buuuuut the end of the day is extremely sweet, so that helps
after a surprisingly pleasant rainy ascent on the ridge, we got to cut the day short after Meagan rolled her ankle and we found the most perfect camping spot. couldn't resist!
Aaaand we're going up up up in this episode. a shorter day, but with a magnificent Instagram camping ! also, dogs and cows, but not as nice as in the cartoons
the actual walk started! I didn't know it could be actually doable, but so far despite the crazy difficulty it seems to be working! so far
greetings!here we are, back on the trail together. this episode is recorded at the famous Nazy's guest house in Jokolo, and will be the starting point of a journey across the Caucasus to try and reach Steppatsminda. let's discover the project!
Greetings!Well it's been a long time, and this podcast is somehow still being listened to, despite not being active. Time to change that, a new season is coming! Discover where and how in this episode.I had to find a spot in nature in Belgium to record that one really under my tent, not an easy feat! and sorry for the sound quality, I lost my habits and ate the microphone.See you for the next episode in Georgia!Cheers!
This is it, after 154 days on the trail I crossed France by foot. I know many of you will discover this podcast with this episode, but it's not representative. Anyway who cares, that's done
A very very long episode (sorry) about that last bivouac night. Coming back on a lot of things that happened in the past months. Hence the length
After an amazing evening by myself and a view on the ocean, I have the annoying surprise to have other campers arriving at the last moment while I recorded
Sickness seem to be leaving me alone and other stuff like walking and hiking you know
What a day! My body is giving up on me, I'm getting sick and I didn't take enough care going down and injured my knee again, but brutally. Although I saw the ocean and it was quite a show!
Found an amazing bivouac spot after a horribly rainy day. Somebody will get sick...
Didn't realize pilgrims were strict about the time an auberge closes, so I had to Mission Impossible it
I reached st jean pied de port and now embarking in a terrible experience: being trapped with pilgrims in a traditional auberge. Help
Staying in a disgusting place, but luckily sheltered from the rain after a day of pure showers.
In a cold rainy dark forest I almost had to setup on mud while I hear the horny bucks yelling in a distance
When everything is foggy, wet and cold, a non marked unguarded cabin feels like heaven. Even when it's invaded shortly after arrival by three other soaking wet hikers
Life turned insanely comfortable tonight as my three best friends in Brussels surprised me with a free night in a hotel and a meal in a restaurant from a distance. Just lovely
Today is my birthday, it started terribly but ended way better than expected. And that was needed
Sometimes you hate something for almost no reason, everything should be amazing but hate gets in the way. Like procedurally generated content
Years after my attempt at a bit of the GR10, I'm remembering a town where I had some last memories with my grandfather
Bad luck happened with the lost of Simon who had to go faster, but good luck with Franck offering me a place to stay for the night . And a shower!
Finally I could see the lake! I missed it last year and this time could sleep next to it, fiou!
I'm using more and more the sentence "well it's almost over anyway" but I'm just jumping the gun really
After a stretch that I knew but in reverse, a series of coincidences made me go for an early meaty celebration
After trying for way too long to start this hike, I managed to leave the cabin. Because qi was late I didn't do the climb I needed completely and arrived at a nice bivouac with Simon
Today I'm just enjoying life in the grandparent's cabin, but it makes me think how I want to continue hiking
I'm in a safe place and an emotional one (where I spent my entire childhood) and feeling quite lazy
Big day of hiking in the worst possible weather condition, full of rain and intense wind. But I am making again more than expected
Surprised myself with a gigantic climb after starting really late. It's as nice to be back on the trail as it's ... Kinda boring, same old same old
Tomorrow I'll start hiking again but today was full of personal emotions
This day wasn't necessarily hiking related but I could spend a bit of time in family, and that was worth it
I took the decision to jump ahead in order to visit my grandma in St Lary, before hitch hiking back to get on the trail again. But today was all about thumbs
I was looking forward for months my arrival to St Lary where my grandma would wait for me, but today I realized it won't be possible. So i had to take a decision
Gorgeous hiking day with plenty of nice views, but I tried to push to get in time a dinner I'll never see. Hence disappointment
