In this episode of "Struggling to be Joy Fueled and Jesus Led," Toni asks Matt why some people resist thanking others who have given to them. And why some may feel manipulated when they get a thank you. What goes on in someone that would make them resist sending (or receiving) a thank-you card, or a gratitude text, etc. Matt turns to the human development model of Spiral Dynamics to make sense of our differing attitudes around reciprocity. This is the first of a few podcasts on this topic.
Matt summarizes all that has been talked about regarding addictive structures and stages of moral development. In this new series Struggling to Stay Joy Fueled and Jesus Led, Toni invites you into conversations between her and her husband, Matt Daniels. These conversations are going to be completely unplanned, where Toni shares something that recently triggered her and then asks Matt to help make sense of what is going on. In this episode, Matt helps Toni understand why some institutional churches shut down a movement like Godly Play when it is actually creating true character transformation among their congregants and children, and in turn creating Vibrant Families of Jesus. for more information about Godly Play go to https://www.godlyplayfoundation.org/
In this episode, Toni has the joy of interviewing her good friend, colleague and fellow author of Relational Revolution and Joy Fueled, Dr. Kent Smith. A professor of 30+ years at Abilene Christian University and co-founder of LK10 and the Eden Center for Regenerative Culture, Dr. Smith has lived a lifetime experimenting with learning communities and is a master architect of creating communities that can love and lead well together with each other and with God. The inability to healthily make decisions together has brought about more division and corruption of power in the church (and world for that matter) than almost any other issue. Dr. Smith shares with us his journey into what he has coined “Divine Governance” and how it creates a way for the Kingdom of God to break forth as a result of every voice reflecting the image of God. Last week we began a new series on Resourcing the Relational Revolution where you heard a little about the different people and organizations that have been fueling the value shifts that are helping people rediscover church as healthy heart-to-heart connection. Today we have the honor of hearing from Dr Wilder, one of the thought fathers behind this Relational Revolution. Dr. Wilder founder of Life Model Works, has co-authored many books including his latest Escaping Enemy Mode, written with Ray Woolridge. In this episode, we check in and listen to God together, following God's lead into a discussion about how elevating your own status can easily trigger enemy mode in others. Dr wilder answers questions such as, "Is competitive thinking automatically enemy mode?" And "What would be different if we could form healthy attachment with our enemies?" This was a deeply challenging and encouraging time with Dr. Wilder. If you are ready to learn how to escape enemy mode and love those who think differently than you, pick up Escaping Enemy Mode today and begin understanding God's call for His body to love instead of hate.
There are several organizations that are resourcing the Relational Revolution through producing content and training. In this episode, I fill you in on several of the vital source organizations and share what they offer and their differences. In following episodes, I will interview the founders of these organizations to more fully share what their organization does. You will also learn what their unique contribution is so that you can see how they complement each other and what your next steps are for training.
So much of life is out of our control and it can be tempting to grasp at solutions to feel stable and good about ourselves. What does it look like instead to face these struggles in relationship with God through our community? In this episode you get to be a fly on the wall during one of Toni's communities of practice to see how they showed up for her in a time of difficulty. Toni's Leader Team is a community of practice that meets twice a month. Attunement is one of the rounds. What do we do when someone checks in with heavy emotions? We ask the person what they need most from us and then we give them multiple choices. In this snippet, Toni kicks off the attunement round concerned for her son. Hilary, so beautifully offers the question (with multiple choices). When Toni chooses the listening option, Hilary follows up with "What question do you want us to listen on?" LK10's way of responding to heavy emotions is modeled beautifully, and you can see how powerful the listening time was for Toni. Go here for the article on Responding to Heavy Emotions. Do you often automatically give people what you think they need, or do you ask them first what would be most helpful for them and then respond accordingly? A relational revolution is sweeping through God's people globally. As the Training Champion for LK10, my key question has been “How do we help facilitate church in ways that grow healthy attachments to God and each other?” In this episode I recap content from the last few weeks and jump into the second S of effective facilitating: Being Safe Hope you enjoy!
In this episode, Toni recaps what this revolution is all about, clarify what she is not saying, and jumps into the first S of effective facilitating: Seeing. A relational revolution is sweeping through God's people globally. As the Training Champion for LK10, my key question has been “How do we help facilitate church in ways that help people grow healthy attachments to God and each other?” Duty-driven, guilt-based, programmatic, building center, pastor-led forms of church have proven ineffective in seeing sustained character development and spontaneous multiplication. In this episode, I break down the five key components of this fundamental change that comes from seeing salvation as healthy attachment to God. If this is your first time hearing about being church relationally, you might want to pick up The Other Half of Church by Michel Hendricks and Jim Wilder or LK10's book Joy Fueled and Jesus led. Until next time.

Ever think you know how someone is feeling? Or you know exactly what they need to do? Toni shares how so often she has parented with that as her base…However this approach to parenting can actually thwart us from getting to know our children better…and it also can stunt their growth. Listen in as Toni shares an amazing story of how her 6 year old managed his own anger and co-created with God a totally new reality with the help of attunement and curiosity! Is curiosity hard for you? Do you have a difficult time knowing what you are feeling and how to respond? In 4 Keys to parent Fearlessly, Toni models how to slow ourselves down enough to be curious about ourselves. That's where our growth begins. As we learn to be curious about our own emotions, we will grow our capacity for curiosity with others.

And yet, the Holy Spirit is actually called the Comforter! So, this must be important! Here Toni shares a story of how this shows up in her parenting. Do you recognize when you need comfort? In this episode, I share with you the importance of understanding how we each uniquely show up in the world and helping others see their unique contribution as well. It is part of the child's stage of development. Hear a story of how this plays itself out with my son Matt. Can you articulate how Christ uniquely shows up through you? In this episode, Toni shares a journal entry from 2012 where God took her to a childhood memory to coach her in how He uniquely designed her to show up in the world. Parts of her were sometimes scared to shine because she did not want others to feel bad. In this spontaneous time with God, He reframes that fear and reveals how she was created to inspire and train others to be their best, unleashing her to be the trainer that she is today. How has God uniquely designed you to show up in your world? Do you delight in how marvelous and wonderful you are? Or do you shy away from the greatness you were designed for because of fear or shame? LK10 teaches you the rhythms of attention that help you connect with God around all things, even your design. In this episode, Hilary Kline shares with us key paradigm shifts that had to happen in order for her to embrace a Joy fueled, Jesus-led way of life. She also gives us a peek into personal examples of how interacting with God removes fear and creates new possibilities. There may be some words or concepts that are new to you in this one. If so, stay tuned for season 3, where I will break down some of these terms and share resources that have proven invaluable on this journey. Hope you enjoy.
In this episode, Hilary and I share our story of how God drew us into a mother-daughter relationship that has changed our lives (and our families' lives) forever. There are countless ways God calls us to provide for each other's needs through spiritual adoption, whether it may be as a stand-in, supplemental, or replacement family member. That is how the family of God becomes mature and complete - one adoption at a time, as Jesus leads. However, while spiritual adoption is a crucial part of God's heart, it is not something we rush into because we want to help and love others. Dr. Wilder and others share more on this in The Life Model: Living from the Heart Jesus Gave you, including the problems to anticipate, principles to follow, and red flags to watch out for. Their wisdom on this matter has been essential for my family as we navigate following Jesus into these adoptions. Hope you enjoy.
In this episode, Toni shares with you a very intimate moment between her and God that changed her life forever and has become what she calls her “abiding place”, i.e. the place where she returns in order to continuously sense how deeply God enjoys her, and what God wants her to know about any given situation. What does Christ abiding in you look like? Do you have a place where you can go in your imagination that instantaneously anchors your body, mind, and soul into God's deep affection for you and His perspective on your life? The book Back to Joy shares stories and resources that have helped Toni on this journey. LK10 is a Christian leadership training organization...and If you would like help finding your own abiding place, email community@lk10.com with “abiding place” in the subject line, and someone from LK10 will contact you. Until next time.
In this episode, Toni shares another story of following the images that she sees in her mind as God leads her into her day. Paying attention plays such a big role in learning to be Jesus Led. Hope you enjoy.
