In a shocking turn of events, a recent California primary election has left many scratching their heads. The jungle primary system, which allows all candidates to compete in a single primary, has been criticized for its potential to manipulate the outcome. This episode delves into the details of the election, where a socialist candidate, Nithya Raman, seemingly overnight went from being in third place to taking the lead. The conversation with Joel Pollock, opinion editor at the California Post, sheds light on the vulnerabilities in California's election system. From relaxed signature laws to ballot harvesting, the discussion highlights the many issues that have led to a lack of trust in the electoral process. The speaker shares his expertise on the complexities of California's voting system and the potential for fraud. Joel Pollock explains that the jungle primary system has increased the number of fringe candidates, making it difficult for moderate candidates to emerge. He also touches on the issue of ballot harvesting, where mass ballots are sent out and collected by the Democratic Party, giving them an unfair advantage. The conversation also covers the role of the US Attorney, Bill A. Saley, in investigating the election irregularities. If you're concerned about the integrity of California's election system, this episode is a must-listen. What does Florence Nightingale have to do with fascism? More than nursing wants to admit. In this episode of The Gritty Nurse Podcast, host Amie Archibald-Varley and guest Meg Lambrych, RN tackles one of nursing's most uncomfortable questions: why can't nurses criticize Florence Nightingale? She is nursing's most sacred icon — but what if the "good nurse" myth she built has been grooming nurses to accept obedience, silence, and their own oppression for over a century? Beyond this, what happens when we cannot critize the leaders we put in places of power? This is a conversation about nursing, power, and democracy. It is about lateral violence in healthcare, racism in nursing, and the cult of individualism that keeps nurses isolated, exhausted, and politically powerless. It is about what happens to a democracy when citizens — cannot bring themselves to criticize the leaders and figures they have placed into power. Because the conditions that silence nurses are the same conditions that allow fascism to take root. In this episode you will hear about: Florence Nightingale's legacy and why nursing needs to critically examine its own icons The "good nurse" myth and how it has normalized obedience, self-sacrifice, and silence in healthcare The connection between nursing culture, the cult of individualism, and the rise of fascism Lateral violence and racism in nursing and how they are tools of systemic oppression What happens to democracy when we cannot criticize our leaders Why collective power — not individual heroism — is what changes systems Hope as a discipline: what it means, why it matters, and how nurses can lead the way This episode is for nurses who are exhausted but still showing up. It is for healthcare workers who know something is broken and are ready to name it. It is for anyone watching democracy erode in real time and looking for a way to fight back that goes beyond voting. Because hope is not a feeling. Hope is a discipline. And collective power is the only thing that has ever dismantled oppression. Trump 2.0 had an amazing release day, thank you for all the support. If you haven't already, please go out and buy Trump 2.0 today! The White House and President Trump hosted King Charles and Queen Camilla as they visited the United States. Not missing a beat in making liberal heads explode with the caption "TWO KINGS" on the picture of President Trump next to King Charles. The white tie event was a lavish and elegant dinner in which 6 Supreme Court justices were in attendance. Mollie Hemingway's new book Alito focuses on Justice Samuel Alito, whom she considers the most Conservative voice on the Supreme Court, a model for Americans and a man of great principle. Today she gives a first hand account of the various personalities of the Supreme Court justices and a glimpse into their interpersonal dynamics. Even though the liberal voices on the Supreme Court slow walked their dissent on the voting rights act decision, it was struck down today in a 6-3 vote. The decision means that Louisiana's map was illegally drawn to create a majority-Black congressional district. These districts tend to favor Democrats and this decision could pave the way nationwide for Republicans to redraw race-based maps. He says that crisis intervention is important for everyone in the community, in addition to the victim and the perpetrator.  With Focused Interruption, Cooper works to address gun violence in a preventative way, though much of their work includes working with perpetrators of violence, navigating law enforcement and investigations, and community needs. This means pointing out challenges and moving toward repair in situations where “trauma is stacked on top of violence,” says Cooper. Community members are partners in this work, in helping the folks at Focused Interruption identify situations before they escalate.  They also discuss how important it is to show up in your community spaces in order to make a positive impact, what it would look like to have community rather than community policing, and how Focused Interruption takes care of its workers. Anthony Cooper Sr. is a dedicated and visionary leader, serving as the CEO and Founder of Focused Interruption, a pioneering organization specializing in community violence intervention and prevention in Dane County. His leadership is defined by a deep commitment to creating safer, more inclusive communities through innovative and compassionate approaches. The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, and Formula 1 Group, the Commercial Rights Holder, have today announced the signing of the Concorde Governance Agreement, a crucial contract defining the regulatory framework and governance terms of the FIA Formula One World Championship until 2030. This follows the announcement in March that the 2026 Commercial Concorde Agreement had been signed by all the teams and Formula 1 Group. Together, these agreements constitute the ninth Concorde Agreement, representing a major step forward in the professionalisation and global development of the sport. First introduced in 1981, the Concorde Agreements are designed to promote sporting fairness, technological innovation and operational excellence, and align all key stakeholders around a shared vision for structured governance and continued growth of the sport. Each iteration of the Concorde Agreements has shaped the FIA Formula One World Championship into the global spectacle it is today. The ninth Concorde Agreement announced today marks the beginning of a new era of collaboration between the FIA and Formula 1 Group, who have worked together to write the next chapter in Formula 1 history, demonstrating mutual respect, transparency and shared purpose between the two organisations. It confirms the participation of all FIA Formula One World Championship teams, including the incoming Cadillac Formula 1 team, through the end of the decade, and provides a stable foundation for the sporting and technical evolution of the sport. The Concorde Agreement underscores the commitment of the FIA, Formula 1 Group and all teams to continue growing and developing the sport, and to keep driving the momentous expansion it has seen in recent years. The new contract enables the FIA to invest further in improved race regulation, race direction, stewarding and technical expertise for the benefit of the Championship, and means the sport can continue to evolve, providing exciting technological innovation and sporting action for fans, broadcasters and partners, all within a stable and structured regulatory framework. Combined with record viewership growth, a dynamic race calendar, and increasing engagement from younger audiences, the FIA Formula One World Championship enters this next chapter with unprecedented momentum. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, said: “The ninth Concorde Agreement secures the FIA Formula One World Championship's long-term future and I am proud of the dedication that has been invested in this process. I would like to thank Stefano Domenicali and his team in what has been a strong collaboration, building a framework grounded in fairness, stability, and shared ambition. This agreement allows us to continue modernising our regulatory, technological, and operational capabilities, including supporting our race directors, officials, and the thousands of volunteers whose expertise underpin every race. We are ensuring that Formula 1 remains at the forefront of technological innovation, setting new standards in global sport.” Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1 Group, said: “Today is an important day for Formula 1. As we celebrate seventy-five years of this incredible sport, we are proud to write the next chapter in our long and amazing history. This agreement ensures that Formula 1 is in the best possible position to continue to grow around the world. I want to thank the President of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem and all the teams for the collaboration and determination to achieve the best results for the entire sport in our discussions. We have a huge amount to be proud of, but we also are focussed on the opportunities and exciting potential for Formula 1 in the years ahead.”

Nearly 70% of Russian crude production and exports are now under sanctions, raising costs and slowing settlements even though only 5% of exports use US dollars. Russia has relied on offshore traders and new entities to maintain flows, but this is more challenging for major producers like Rosneft and Lukoil. Indian imports may fall by 400 kbd, while Chinese flows should remain steady. Over time, Russia can redirect up to 0.8 mbd to other markets and China could absorb an additional 1 mbd, but profit margins will narrow due to higher costs and deeper discounts. Export volumes are expected to stabilize within a quarter after an initial pause.   Speaker:   Natasha Kaneva, Head of Global Commodities Research   This podcast was recorded on October 24, 2025. Gold's recent pullback from record highs may be just what investors need to justify getting in on the action. With gold up 300% over the past 5 years, Briggs believes it's due for a correction, but he's still bullish on the precious metal's long-term prospects.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Donald Trump did not win the Nobel Peace Prize, as he boasted he should for supposedly being the “peace President” - a claim we've debunked numerous times on this show. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said that the Nobel Committee “places politics over peace” - which actually does have some truth to it, like a broken clock does twice a day. The award was instead given to María Corina Machado, a Venezuelan “opposition” leader hell-bent on overthrowing the government of Nicolás Maduro. Her party, Vente Venezuela, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Israeli Likud party, and in 2019 she posted on X that “The struggle of Venezuela is the struggle of Israel.”In Gaza, Palestinians celebrated in the streets upon hearing the news of the ceasefire, and are beginning to return to the north. While they are finding their homes largely reduced to rubble, they are vowing to rebuild and reestablish their lives in their homeland. As the remaining Israeli captives are being traded for thousands of Palestinian political prisoners, hundreds of whom were held in Israel for much longer than two years, the ceasefire deal also calls for Israel to allow hundreds of humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza daily. The ceasefire was won first and foremost by the resistance and resilience of the Palestinian people, and by the solidarity movement across the world that did not let Palestine out of the spotlight for the past two years. But Israel is already going back on some of the terms, killing at least five Palestinians in Shujaiya on Tuesday who were going to check on their homes. The occupying forces also announced they will not actually allow for the aid that it agreed to as part of the ceasefire to be let into Gaza. This situation is quickly developing, and what happens next may also open a new phase in the solidarity movement, and we'll get into many of the questions about how the movement should go forward and what these changes mean.Support the show

Welcome to The Times of Israel’s Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what’s happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Military correspondent Emanuel Fabian joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today’s episode. On Tuesday, Israel targeted leaders from the Hamas terror group gathering in Qatar who were reportedly there to discuss a new ceasefire proposal put forward by Trump’s administration. Yesterday, Netanyahu appeared to acknowledge that the missile strike had failed to kill the targeted leaders. Fabian brings us new information on how the strike was carried out. Following an evacuation warning, the IDF says it struck a high-rise tower in Gaza City that was being used by Hamas. Just after recording time, two more 10- to 15-story buildings were demolished, in each case after civilians were warned by the IDF to evacuate. We learn about why the IDF is targeting these buildings and how they are taken down. A drone launched by the Houthis in Yemen was intercepted by Israeli air defenses near Ramon Airport in southern Israel this morning. Last week, a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthis evaded air defenses and smashed into the Ramon Airport terminal. Fabian speaks about the Houthis’ new targeting tactic and its results so far. Israeli soldiers raided the home of Palestinian activist and Oscar-winning director Basel Adra in the southern West Bank yesterday after two Israelis were injured by stone throwing in the area, according to the military. Adra told The Associated Press that before the army raid, Israeli settlers had attacked his village of at-Tuwani, injuring two of his brothers and one cousin. Fabian discusses how these “he said-he said” attacks are all too common. To close the program, we turn to last week’s violent terror attacks in Jerusalem and Kibbutz Tzuba. Fabian explains how intensive IDF efforts in the West Bank have brought attacks of this nature to almost zero — but that there is a steep price to be paid. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates.
