President Donald Trump's goals might make sense but his style doesn't, says historian and former politician Conrad Black. From calling Canada the "51st state" to slapping on tariffs, Black says Trump's approach risks damaging U.S.-Canada ties. Could his tough talk give the Liberals a boost or be the final push for change?

Is America screwed? Not according to the former managing editor of Wired, Peter Leyden. The creator of the Substack newsletter The Great Progression, Leyden believes that U.S. history operates in 80 year cycles and that America, empowered by Northern Californian technology, is gearing up for another remarkable period of innovation. Leyden is no MAGA fanboy, but argues that Trump is enabling the American future by destroying the Republican brand and unintentionally guaranteeing a longterm Democratic majority. It's a provocative thesis which I hope is true. But what about China? And can we really trust Silicon Valley's tech titans to make America great again? 5 Takeaways* Leyden believes America cycles through major reinventions approximately every 80 years, with previous transformations occurring after the Constitutional Convention, Civil War, and World War II.* He argues that post-WWII systems (welfare state, Pax Americana) are outdated and that Trump's presidency is accelerating their necessary dismantling.* Leyden sees an opportunity for progressives to rebuild American systems using AI, clean energy and bioengineering in more efficient, effective ways.* Leyden references economic historian Carlota Perez's theory that technological revolutions move from "Gilded Ages" (concentrated wealth/power) to "Golden Ages" (distributed benefits) through democratic intervention.* Leyden positions the US-China competition, particularly in AI development, as a fundamental contest between democratic and authoritarian approaches to organizing society with new technologies.Peter Leyden is a tech expert and thought leader on artificial intelligence, climate technologies and a more positive future through his keynote speaking, writing and advising. Leyden currently is the creator of The Great Progression: 2025 to 2050, which is a series of keynote talks, Substack essays, and his next book on our new potential to harness AI and other transformative technologies to create a much better world. He also is the founder of Reinvent Futures, advising senior leaders in strategic foresight and the impacts of these new technologies. Since coming to San Francisco to work with the founders of WIRED to start The Digital Age, he has followed the front edge of technological change and built an extraordinary network of pioneering innovators in Silicon Valley. Leyden most recently convened this network of elite tech experts through the first two years of the Generative AI Revolution as host and curator of one of the premier event series at ground zero in San Francisco — The AI Age Begins. Leyden is the former Managing Editor of WIRED, who then became the Founder and CEO of two startups that pioneered the early video mediums of first YouTube and then Zoom. He wrote two influential books on the future that went into multiple languages, including The Long Boom that foretold how the new digital economy would scale over 25 years — and largely did. Leyden began his career as a journalist covering America, then did a stint as a foreign correspondent in Asia for Newsweek, including covering the early rise of China. He has traveled to more than 50 countries around the world. He was raised in the heartland in Minnesota, graduated summa cum laude at Georgetown University, and earned two masters degrees from Columbia University.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. In addition to presenting the daily KEEN ON show, he is the host of the long-running How To Fix Democracy interview series. He is also the author of four prescient books about digital technology: CULT OF THE AMATEUR, DIGITAL VERTIGO, THE INTERNET IS NOT THE ANSWER and HOW TO FIX THE FUTURE. *Moonrise*... what happened? This should have been a sci-fi masterpiece. I mean, *WIT Studio*, *Hiromu Arakawa*, *Tow Ubukata*—those names alone promised something groundbreaking! And visually, no complaints there. The animation? Stunning. The space battles? Thrilling. The engrave technology? Fascinating. The world-building? Full of potential. It looked and felt like a triumph in the making. But then the story happened. Or, rather, it unraveled. What started off so strong—an intriguing conflict between Earth and its oppressed Moon colony, governed by an AI overlord—just... lost its way. The pacing is baffling. One moment, you're deep in gripping action, and the next, you're stuck in a subplot that drags momentum to a halt. And the time jumps—why are they so messy? Instead of enriching the story, they confuse it. Jack, Phil, and the rest? They had so much potential, but instead, they feel underdeveloped, inconsistent, and sometimes just frustratingly vague. And the dialogue—oh, the dialogue. It's not even bad in a fun way. It's flat, sometimes forced, and the infamous "Moonrise!" line? Unintentionally hilarious. The tonal shifts don't help either. One moment, it's a serious war drama with genuine stakes, and the next? Slapstick humor. Did they forget what kind of story they were telling? Then there's the ending... or whatever that was supposed to be. Rushed, incomplete, full of unanswered questions—just completely unsatisfying. So, is it worth watching? If you care about deep storytelling, well-developed characters, and coherent pacing, probably not. But if you're here purely for gorgeous animation and space battles, you might still enjoy parts of it. But ultimately, Moonrise is frustrating because it could have been *great*. And instead, it's just... confusing, disappointing, and a missed opportunity.

Many husbands fall short in marriage not because they don't love their wives, but because they avoid tough conversations and fail to communicate effectively. Have you heard either of these claims? "There are no atheists in foxholes," and "Only an atheist until the plane starts to fall." These claims are often given to show that atheists frequently find themselves pulled toward God during times of stress. Is this true? Can it be used as an argument for God? Atheist Armin Navabi addresses this argument in chapter 18 of his book, "Why There Is No God." He writes, "The existence of 'deathbed conversions' and similar experiences does not prove the existence of God... The idea that fear could drive you toward the belief in God only goes to suggest that religious claims are commonly fear-based and not rooted in actual logic or evidence. Unintentionally, theists are essentially acknowledging that their claims are irrational." Join the show as we walk through Armin's chapter and look at how to think about belief in times of desperation. I'll be taking your calls and responding to your questions as well!

Allison's new book Re-Storied ~ Open the Book of your Heart is now available on Amazon. How many Jesus stickers have you slapped on past hurts and sins to cover them up or simply move forward? Can you imagine approaching mistakes and transgressions with love and courage rather than fear and shame?Unintentionally, we sometimes use Jesus to cover up our pain or sin instead of opening our hearts and working through it with God. When we do this, we're keeping ourselves from healing, freedom, and a deeper faith. God can rewrite the text of our lives if we open our hearts. When that happens, we awaken to the vibrant joy-filled life God promises us.Not long ago, I realized the damage and harm that occurs when we don't work through past hurts with God. It was then that I set out on a journey to break down the walls around my heart and truly get to know and trust God. Scripture meditation and prayer journaling were the practices that brought me to where I am today.God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to see his eyes. Psalm 18:24 (MSG)It has been soul-changing in more ways than I can put into words. These practices have led me here and have given me the desire to share how they can allow God to transform and re-story us.When we start listening to God instead of telling Him what we wantLearn to trust Him with all the pieces of our livesFully accept the deep love He has for usTruly believe what God says about usRe-Storied is an exploration of the power and potential of God's Word through study, scripture meditation, and prayer. It's designed to teach contemplative practices that awaken a personal and intimate relationship with your Heavenly Father. A single scripture can deeply capture your heart and awaken your soul, but we risk missing it if we don't slow down and listen. This book will guide you through the disciplines of learning to rest in the presence of God, recognizing His voice, and responding to His counsel and love.

Holding it weighs you down, not the other person. Set it down anytime. Right now, for instance. Keep moving.”“Expect that what you tend to will grow. Expect that what you feed with your care and attention, what you shine your light on, will thrive. Choose wisely. Keep moving.”Quote from my mom on grudges:“Well, you've heard this before. There is a way that we are unintentionally amplifying the negative impacts of racism. Some of our most celebrated methods of antiracism are provoking a little thing called stereotype threat. Okay, so it's actually a big thing, and it's very bad news for people of color. I explain all that in the episode and reveal the surprising way we can correct course. This is a new, updated version of one of the most popular episodes.Related episodes:Should We Embrace Race or Move Past It? A decade ago, climbing's most controversial figure wasn't someone who'd lied, chopped routes, or chipped holds. It was a young woman who'd savvily harnessed the internet and social media to power her competitive career. Unintentionally, Sierra Blair became a lightning rod. Today, Sierra's approach might simply be considered best practice for an athlete on social media, but a decade ago it sparked conversations about who gets to call themselves an athlete or a “real” climber, and it exposed a vein of misogyny flowing through our sport. With that period firmly in the rearview mirror and climbing harder than ever, Sierra shares her journey through climbing, professionalism, and the Internet. For as long as there have been groups of people, people have wanted to be in charge of those people. For as long as there have been armies, people have tried to use them to conquer, to rule, to accumulate empires. Was it worth it? Did they enjoy it? Did it mean anything? Few, if any of them, ever bothered to honestly answer that question. This is what makes Marcus Aurelius' Meditations such a remarkable and unprecedented text. Here you have the most powerful man in the world, head of the most powerful army on earth, a victorious general whose triumphs warranted an 130-foot tall marble column lauding his achievements. And what did he say that all this amounted to?Not much! Meditations is Marcus Aurelius' refutation of the idea that you should want to rule the world. It strips it of its glamor and delusions (literally at one point, Marcus breaks down the feast he was given, removing, he said, “the legends that encrust it”). Being famous is empty, he tells us. Being remembered is worthless. Power is corrupting and an immense burden.✉️ Sign up for the Daily Stoic email: https://dailystoic.com/dailyemail
