I am 15 years overdue for building a mineral feeder for the chickens. I break out Polyface Designs and use the chicken water cover concept as the basis for my mineral feeder design.

It's 29 degree F today but feels like 19 degrees. It's finally cold enough for me to take a cold plunge in the creek. It's also cold enough for us to switch to our wood furnace to heat our water and our house. We get the furnace fired up but run into some issues along the way. Joel Salatin is coming to the homestead soon along with breeding rabbits for meat production. While my right hand and wrist are improving, the inflammation has spread to my left hand. My ankle is also still swollen which is hindering progress in getting ready for Joel's arrival.

Instead of saying "I can't" due to my reactive arthritis symptoms, I ask "how can I?" I force myself to find solutions to my problems such as getting the ever-flow waterer working, fueling the Kubota, and building rabbit hutches.

I thought I was on the verge of breaking through with my malady but the pain in my ankle worsened overnight and I'm having difficulty walking again. My future breeding guilt also seems to be sick. We give her an ACV drench in the hopes to improve her.

I'm still in a lot of physical pain but I need to do at least small, manageable tasks each day to prepare for Joel Salatin's upcoming visit. We break up the ground where there is bear dirt, seed it, cover it with hay, and water it.

My physical condition continues to improve. I am able to walk more and my wrist hurts slightly less that it did yesterday. With my increased mobility, we harvest our garlic we planted last fall and put the bulbs on our drying rack. My mobility has increased by my wrist has worsened and is now swollen and warm. Doctor ordered an X-ray. We also get more c-monsters which means we need to get the turkeys and geese out of the brooder and on pasture. This explains why I have arthritis like symptoms. I thought I was getting better but the reality is I'm still sick. Just as I was recovering from Salmonella poisoning, I developed an intense pain which makes mobility very difficult. I've tried chiropractic, an ice bath, heat, and nothing seems to be helping.

Still healing from the salmonella poisoning, I fill in the gaps on the homestead from the last few days of being down. I go to town to get an IV for rehydration. I also make plans to braid my daughter's hair for her future someday wedding and I practice on my wife in the meantime.

I felt like I was on the mend yesterday from my salmonella symptoms but it seems I have relapsed today. Consequently, I'm on light duty and only doing minimal farm chores.

Justin is battling a terrible stomach virus so Rebekah takes over the vlog. The chidlers share nice things about their absent papa on Father's Day during breakfast.

Rebekah and I put our heads together to figure out the installation process for our new tomato trellis system in the high tunnel greenhouse. Six Abundance Plus members were selected to come to my homestead for a chicken butchering workshop. They all wanted more experience to bring back to their homesteads. One gentlemen came to build a legacy for his grandchildren to inherit. But they all left with community.

The greenhouse is large and hot. It takes a long time to water all the vegetables by hand so we install a drip irrigation system to automate the watering. Speaking of water, our chicken waterer for the Cornish X chicks is getting nasty several times a day. Our family becomes tourists in our own tour when we visit Chimney Rock. We walk through a 200 foot tunnel to an elevator in the middle of a giant rock while Arun and Teddy climb 500 stairs to get to the summit. I'm excited to return to chores and homestead projects after two days of filming for our show Rooted which is on our online streaming network, Abundance+. We head to the large greenhouse to plant rows of vegetable starts. Feeling super motivated, we pushed through and also planted our row crop gardens outside of the greenhouse.

We already had 100 meat chickens but that will never do. We had to go and get 60 fat chicks.
