Dr. Matthew Nagra makes his fourth appearance on the podcast. And this time he's laser-focused on the social media-driven controversy around seed oils. Dr. Nagra and his team put in the hours and reviewed the science around seed oils, examining three main, viral claims we bust down in this episode, including: 1. “Seed oils cause inflammation”, 2. “The RCTs prove harm”, 3. And “Heating or processing creates toxic compounds”. Dr. Nagra is a Naturopathic Doctor devoted to bringing the most up-to-date, evidence-based nutrition information to his patients in his Vancouver-based practice, and to the public via social media, presentations, and scientific publications. He aims to correct mis- and disinformation in a way that is easily digestible, helping people make fully informed dietary choices. He has also contributed to multiple nutrition textbooks, including Springer Nature's Handbook of Public Health Nutrition, and is a nutrition science advisor for the highly anticipated documentary, The Game Changers 2. You can also catch him in Episode 84, where we look at evidence around swapping out animal and plant-based meat; Episode 47, focused on misinformation around the Food Compass System; and Episode 2, where we talk about nutrition myths and misinformation more broadly. This week's episode of The Veg Grower Podcast is a real mix of surprises, setbacks, and exciting new beginnings. From unexpected frost damage on the allotment to big changes in the kitchen garden — and the moment Richard finally becomes a beekeeper — there's plenty to dive into. If you want the full story, the sounds, and the emotions behind it all, make sure you give the episode a listen. Down on the Allotment Richard kicks off the week with a weather surprise — a mid‑May frost that caught many growers off guard. As he said, “This week we have had some frosts… temperatures have certainly dipped overnight.” Potatoes blackened, cucumbers wiped out, and a few tomatoes took a hit. It's a lesson in not planting tender crops too early, even when the forecast looks safe. But it's not all doom and gloom — Richard shares how he's bouncing back and what he'll do differently next year. Weeding, Asparagus & Garlic Watch With planting paused, Richard focused on weed control — essential at this time of year when everything grows at full speed. He also harvested rhubarb and asparagus, though the spears have been thinner than usual. On the garlic front, the straw mulch continues to help reduce leek rust, though a few spots have appeared. As he explains in the podcast, removing affected leaves now gives the bulbs the best chance to finish strong. In the Kitchen Garden Back home, the sheltered kitchen garden escaped most of the frost damage. Richard has been sorting through his many pots — and discovered that around 75% of his fruit bushes and trees didn't survive winter. He talks through what happened, what he's replacing, and why he's switching to matching pots and decorative stone mulch. Seeds Still Going In There's still time to sow plenty, so this week included: Cucumbers Nasturtiums Sunflowers Carrots Beetroot Spring onions Richard shares why he's sowing these now and how they fit into his late‑spring plan. Recipe of the Week This week's kitchen segment features a creamy spring onion and potato soup — simple, seasonal, and perfect if you're harvesting early potatoes. Listen for the full method and tips. Beekeeping Begins The big moment has arrived — Richard is officially a beekeeper. He collected his nuc on Saturday, transported it safely, and transferred the frames into his hive. As he described, “Within another couple of hours, the bees seem to have settled in.” He also shares the full story of getting stung, settling the bees, and how he found the perfect field site.

Spring has finally arrived on the south coast, and with it comes that unmistakable lift in energy across the allotment and kitchen garden. This week's episode was packed with sunshine, soil, potatoes, pots, and even a first look inside the beehive for 2024. Here's everything that unfolded. Down on the Allotment: Grass Cutting & First Potatoes of the Year The warm, bright weather made the allotment an absolute joy. With the sun out and the soil workable, the first big job was tackling the grass. The strimmer handled the edges beautifully, but the battery mower decided to misbehave — a loose connection, by the feel of it. The top half of the plot is now looking sharp, and all those clippings have gone straight into the compost. But the real highlight was the start of potato planting. This year, instead of planting all eight varieties in one exhausting session, the plan is to stagger them over several weeks. First in the ground were the Rocket first earlies, planted into beds that had been sown with potato-friendly green manures last autumn. After cutting the green manure back six weeks ago and letting it rot down, the soil was in great condition. Each planting hole received a sprinkle of potato fertiliser — potatoes are hungry plants, after all — before being covered with compost. Once the shoots appear, they'll be mulched with straw to help retain moisture and suppress weeds. With luck, the first harvest should be ready by June. The garlic and onions also received a drink, just to keep everything moving nicely as the season wakes up. In the Kitchen Garden: Spring Tidy-Up & Fresh Starts Back at home, the spring clean-up is well underway. Weeding, mulching, and general tidying have transformed the space, and the removal of the old tree a few weeks ago has opened up new possibilities. A new chainsaw blade made processing the remaining branches much easier — a reminder that sharp tools really do make all the difference. Potatoes in Pots Although most crops go into the ground these days, a few potatoes are being grown at home this year to mix up the planting. Four Rocket seed potatoes went into a large bucket in layers of compost and fertiliser. It's a simple method and a great way to add extra growing space without sacrificing beds. Refreshing the Front Garden Pots After last year's driveway replacement, the old mismatched pots at the front of the house were looking tired. Over winter, new decorative grey-and-black speckled pots have been gradually added. They complement the driveway beautifully and will hold fruit trees and bushes that can be moved when needed to make space for parking. A Surprise Behind the Shed A quick trip behind the shed revealed that the water butts were running low — not because of the weather, but because the downpipe had fallen off and dropped inside one of the butts. After fishing it out and refitting it, the hope now is for just a little rain to refill the system. Water is precious, after all. Recipe of the Week: Cheesy Leeks This week's kitchen creation was a simple but delicious dish to accompany Saturday night's steak: cheesy leeks. Leeks were gently softened in butter, then folded into a homemade cheese sauce made from a classic roux. After a short bake in the oven, the result was rich, comforting, and full of flavour — with plenty left over for the next day. A brilliant way to use fresh allotment leeks. Beekeeping Update with Mark from Buzz Into Beekeeping With the first warm days of spring, Mark was finally able to open the hive for a proper inspection — and the news was excellent. Inside the brood box, the frames showed everything a beekeeper hopes to see at this time of year: Eggs, larvae, and capped brood in neat concentric circles Plenty of pollen and nectar stores A growing population Drone brood developing, signalling the approach of swarming season Although the queen herself stayed hidden (as she often does),
Winter is here in the UK, so while Saul and Lucy hunker down, don layers and fire up the kettle more frequently than usual, what do their minds turn to in the garden? This is the perfect season for clearance of 2025 growth, for establishing new designs and for de-cluttering stores and greenhouses. Any hours that you can put into the garden now, will reward you hugely come spring and summer, when the jobs mount up. Quick - more tea and biscuits! With Saul being busy with his Plant Heritage work this week, Lucy takes up the reins by guiding us, day by day, through her working week. She visits Georgina on Monday, speaks to Jon on Tuesday, works with Mick on Wednesday, has a scone with Elizabeth on Thursday, and visits Len on Friday - all in the name of horticulture, of course. In Episode 2 of The Garden of Lent, Sr. Rita and myself reflect on the often painful but necessary movements of pruning and weeding in our spiritual lives. Lent invites us to examine what God may be gently removing — habits, attachments, mindsets, or fears — not to harm us, but to make room for deeper fruitfulness. This conversation speaks tenderly to women navigating loss, surrender, and the hidden work God is doing beneath the surface. In this episode, we explore:- Why God prunes what He loves- The difference between discipline and punishment- Letting go of what chokes spiritual growth- Trusting God in seasons of loss and refinementIf you've ever wondered why certain things had to be cut away, this episode offers hope, clarity, and compassion.
The February 20 edition of the AgNet News Hour focused squarely on agricultural automation, return on investment, and whether California is ready to truly support innovation in the field. Hosts Nick Papagni and Josh McGill broadcast on a drying Friday morning following recent storms, but the real spotlight was on cutting-edge technology unveiled at the 2026 World Ag Expo. The featured guest was Paul Mikesell, founder and CEO of Carbon Robotics, the company behind the LaserWeeder and the newly announced Autonomous Tractor Kit (ATK). Mikesell shared how he built the first version of the laser weeding system in his backyard after years of working with artificial intelligence in Silicon Valley. His goal was simple: apply advanced AI to solve real-world farming problems — specifically herbicide resistance, rising labor costs, and environmental concerns. The LaserWeeder uses AI-powered cameras and high-precision lasers to identify and eliminate weeds without chemicals. According to Mikesell, growers are seeing up to 80 percent savings on weed control while improving crop health and market timing. The key, he emphasized, is ROI. Farmers want automation to pay for itself in one to three years — not five or ten. That financial reality has shaped Carbon Robotics' business model and rapid global expansion into 15 countries. Beyond weed control, the company introduced Carbon ATK, an autonomous tractor kit that can convert existing tractors into self-driving units. Unlike other autonomous systems that shut down when encountering unexpected obstacles, Carbon's system allows remote operators to take control instantly, ensuring full workdays in the field. The technology is designed to handle tillage, spraying, and other field operations with real-time AI oversight. But the conversation also highlighted regulatory challenges in California. While self-driving vehicles operate on public streets in San Francisco, autonomous tractors face gray areas under state labor and safety regulations. Mikesell called for clearer policies that allow farmers to adopt the best tools available without unnecessary roadblocks. Papagni and McGill underscored the broader takeaway: automation must make financial sense for growers. With labor costs high and margins tight, farmers cannot afford technology that doesn't deliver quick, measurable returns. As AI continues to evolve rapidly, adaptability and affordability will determine which companies succeed. The episode closed with a call for common-sense leadership and stronger support for agriculture in California. As automation advances, the question remains — will policy keep pace with innovation?

Libraries get rid of books all the time. There are so many new books coming in every day and only a finite amount of library space. The practice of freeing up library space is called weeding. When the main branch of the San Francisco Public Library was damaged by an earthquake 1989, the argument over which books need to be weeded, and how they were chosen for removal, reached fever pitch. This episode originally aired on May 14, 2019.Weeding is FundamentalThis episode also features “The Pack Horse Librarians Of Eastern Kentucky” produced by the Kitchen Sisters and mixed by Jim McKee. Monday, 4 August 2025 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: Matthew 12:17 “That it should be fulfilled, the ‘having been spoken' through Isaiah the prophet, saying,” (CG). In the previous verse, Jesus was noted as admonishing the crowds not to make Him apparent. Next, Mathew says, “That it should be fulfilled.” As has been seen several times already, Jesus is the Subject of prophecy. Things were declared concerning Him, His coming, His work, and the effects of His work toward those He was sent to deliver. Matthew returns to Scripture to provide more insights into the proclamation of the prophets, saying, “the ‘having been spoken' through Isaiah the prophet, saying.” As seen above, the last verse from Matthew noted Jesus not wanting to be made openly manifest at the time. Thus, we can conclude that something Matthew will draw from Isaiah will point to that. Life application: Radio personality Joe Rogan made the news concerning his new idea concerning God. The article said, “he feared God ‘is actually created by human beings creating this infinitely intelligent thing that can essentially harness all of the available energy and power of the universe and create anything it wants.'” The article also cited him, saying, “This whole idea of Jesus coming back, well maybe it's real. Maybe we just completely misinterpreted these ancient scrolls and texts and what it really means is that we are going to give birth to this.” Citing another author, the article said, “Yampolskiy, an author and researcher in AI safety, added to Rogan's theory, suggesting that reality is just an ongoing cycle of Big Bangs - the explosion that kickstarted the universe - starting and restarting life over and over again.” It's a problem when people don't take the time to think logically. These men are discussing infinites as being created by finites. Further, where is the Creator if something created does the creating? These are problems of logic that should be contemplated from time to time. What is known as the First Principles will help a person to think logically about God. In understanding these First Principles, we can weed out errors in our thinking. In doing so, we can more fully appreciate the prophecies recorded in the Old Testament as they point to Jesus. Was there a Creator? Could He tell the future? If so, what does this say about the coming of the Messiah and what He would do? Think about such questions as you study the word. As for the First Principles, a quick review of them is in order – 1. Being Is (B is) = The Principle of Existence To say “There is no being” is self-refuting. One must exist in order to make the claim. Being Is Being (B is B) = The Principle of Identity To say “Being isn't being” is self-refuting. One must be a being in order to make a claim about not being a being. Being Is Not Nonbeing (B is Not Non-B) = The Principle of Noncontradiction If being exists (see Principle #1), then it cannot be non-being. The principle is self-evident and undeniable. Either Being or Nonbeing (Either B or Non-B) = The Principle of the Excluded Middle If I exist (asking the question means I do), then I am being. If I am being, then I am not non-being. The principle is self-evident and undeniable; there is no wiggle room. Nonbeing Cannot Cause Being (Non-B>B) = The Principle of Causality Something cannot come from nothing (and we cannot have an infinite regress in matter (or being) – see Einstein and Relativity). The principle is undeniable. Contingent Being Cannot Cause Contingent Being (Bc>Bc) = The Principle of Contingency (or Dependency) This would lead to an infinite regress of causes, which is disproved by Relativity – Time, Space, and Matter came into existence simultaneously and are dependent upon each other. The principle is undeniable. Only Necessary Being Can Cause a Contingent Being (Bn --->Bc) = The Positive Principle of Modality A being that cannot Not exist must, therefore, exist if contingent beings exist. The principle is reducible to the undeniable. Necessary Being Cannot Cause A Necessary Being (Bn>Bn) = The Negative Principle of Modality The principle is undeniable. Only one Necessary Being can exist. Any being which exists apart from a Necessary Being is contingent and could Not exist. It is self-evident. Every Contingent Being Is Caused by a Necessary Being (Bn--->Bc) = The Principle of Existential Causality The fact that there are contingent beings (I think, therefore I am, but I am not necessary) necessitates a Necessary Being. We exist. Therefore, a Being that cannot Not exist must exist. The principle is undeniable in and of itself. Necessary Being Exists (Bn Exists) = Principle of Existential Necessity Contingent beings exist (see next principle); therefore, a Necessary Being must exist. The principle is reducible to the undeniable. Contingent Being Exists (Bc Exists) = Principle of Existential Contingency The principle is undeniable. To say “I (a contingent being) don't exist” is self-refuting. I do exist (Principle 1), which is self-evident. Necessary Being Is Similar to Contingent Being(s) It Causes (Bn ---similar --->Bc) = Principle of Analogy Nothing can exist that doesn't reflect the nature of the Necessary Being. To state something doesn't is self-refuting. The principle is undeniable. Understanding the nature of God, reality, logic, etc., is indispensable in understanding why one religion is false and another may be true. Weeding out what is false through logic leaves us with one possibility concerning God. It is the God presented in Scripture who matches what is logically necessary. It is our duty to read Scripture and see if what is presented there is an acceptable revelation of God. As fulfilled prophecy shows that the Bible is reliable, we can trust that the message of the Bible is from God, who knows the beginning from the end. Lord God, help us to think clearly and logically as we approach theology. May our understanding of who You are and what You have done from the Bible give us reassurance for all of our days that what You have promised will, in fact, come to pass. Thank You for Your word, this wonderful word that reveals You. Amen.

I've been asked this question a lot lately…“Why didn't network marketing EXPLODE from the pandemic and recession, like so many expected? Why are we seeing declines instead of massive growth?”Let's get into it…There's no single reason — it's a combo of things. Yes, the pandemic created a surge for many companies in 2020–2021. But what people don't talk about is that growth was artificial. It was more of a sugar rush than it was sustainable momentum. People were home. They had more time.More stimulus checks.Ecommerce in general saw record-breaking numbers. But then what happened?Life returned to “normal,” attention spans shrank, wallets tightened, and expectations changed. Here's what I believe are the top reasons we've seen double-digit declines across many product-based companies:1. Artificial Pandemic BumpMany companies grew from a moment, not a movement. Growth wasn't built on deep belief or long-term behavior—it was built on convenience and timing.2. Lack of InnovationA lot of companies got lazy during the good times. They stopped innovating. Compensation plans didn't evolve. Products didn't stay ahead of the curve. Messaging got stale. And when consumer priorities shifted, companies weren't ready. This is a GENERALIZATION. I know many of you did evolve.3. We're in the “Options Era”Let's say someone used to buy 100 things. Now their budget forces them to cut back. 10–30% of those go first. Did your product make the cut?Uber. Airbnb. Affiliate. Creator economy. Ecom dropshipping. All legit options now. If we don't create real, unique value, we lose. Those options weren't avail in 2008.4. Poor Customer RetentionMost companies still don't do a great job reselling the customer after the sale. The fortune isn't just in the follow-up—it's in the retention experience.5. False ExpectationsPeople heard “work from home” and thought “easy income.” They weren't ready for rejection, consistency, and leadership development. So they quit early.Lazy on Leadership DevelopmentWe stopped developing leaders because it was so easy!Companies and leaders have been back in the trenches. Some for the last 2 years but you don't just plant a seed and expect a tree to grow the next day. It takes time to see the fruits of your labor. We are starting to see some of those results already and we will continue to see more. This is the WEEDING out season.Listen up—go to www.rankandbanksystem.com right now. Why? Because if your network marketing check isn't where you want it, this is the fix. Here's the kicker: it's got a 100% money-back guarantee. You follow the system, show up for 30 days, and if your check doesn't grow, you pay nothing. Zero risk. In today's episode, I'm diving into gut health, but—as always—I'm doing it in my own unconventional way. Gut issues are often the gateway for many women into the wellness world. But once you're in, it can become this never-ending game of "symptom whack-a-mole." One issue pops up, you chase it with a protocol, and then another emerges. What we're missing is a foundational practice and a deep understanding of gut physiology and how it's intricately tied to our nervous system. Without addressing those basics, you're often just spinning your wheels. When I work with women experiencing gut issues, I often start by focusing on the basics, and one of the most commonly overlooked, yet essential, aspects of gut health is proper hydration. It seems simple, but many people are chronically dehydrated or drinking water inconsistently. Whether it's chugging water late in the day or relying on dry foods that don't offer hydration, these habits can seriously impair digestion. Ultimately, my approach is about respecting the body's innate wisdom and starting with the simplest, most fundamental tools first. Everything else builds from there. We go over all of this and so much more in this episode. Tune in today and get your gut back on the right track! In this episode:[00:37] Welcome back to The Fully Nourished Podcast![02:14] We're diving into gut health today. The focal point of our discussion today centers on the profound insights regarding the detrimental effects of marijuana, as elucidated by Dr. Raymond Wiggins in his recently published work, "Weeding out the Myths about Marijuana." Dr. Wiggins, drawing from his extensive expertise as both a medical professional and a minister, provides a compelling analysis of marijuana's impact on mental and physical health, revealing alarming statistics regarding its correlation with increased risks of anxiety, psychosis, and heart issues. Through a personal narrative intertwined with professional observations, he underscores the critical need for a reevaluation of prevailing perceptions surrounding marijuana as a benign substance. Our conversation delves into the societal implications of marijuana legalization, as well as the spiritual dimensions that inform Dr. Wiggins' perspective on addiction and recovery. Ultimately, we aspire to illuminate the urgent necessity of addressing these misconceptions in our communities for the betterment of public health and well-being.The discourse unfolds with a profound exploration of personal adversity articulated through a poignant anecdote from Dr. Raymond Wiggins' formative years. A significant piece of advice from a mentor, encapsulated in the phrase 'a calm sea never made a skillful sailor,' serves as a thematic cornerstone for the discussion. This metaphor underlines the essential role of challenges in personal development and resilience. Dr. Wiggins reflects on his own life, particularly the adversities faced by his family concerning substance abuse, and how these experiences have equipped him to minister to others in similar predicaments. The conversation deftly weaves between personal narrative and broader societal implications, emphasizing the importance of using one's trials as a foundation for helping others navigate their own challenges. As the dialogue progresses, Dr. Wiggins recounts his diverse academic and professional journey, transitioning from a business degree to a medical career in oral and maxillofacial surgery, ultimately embracing a calling towards ministry. His multifaceted background enriches the conversation, highlighting the intersection of medicine and spirituality in addressing contemporary issues surrounding substance use and addiction, particularly in relation to marijuana.Takeaways: The best piece of advice received was that a calm sea never made a skillful sailor, highlighting the importance of adversity in personal growth. The speaker shared personal experiences with family adversity related to addiction, emphasizing that such experiences can prepare one to help others. The podcast discussed the significant changes in the medical field, specifically in anesthesia, over the past three decades, including advancements in medication and imaging technology. The speaker's new book addresses misconceptions about marijuana and discusses its negative impact on mental health, including increased anxiety and risk of psychosis. Legalization of marijuana is argued to lead to an increase in addiction, psychiatric issues, and other social problems, countering popular belief. The importance of incorporating biblical principles into discussions around marijuana use was emphasized, suggesting that spiritual guidance can aid in overcoming addiction.
