Childhood friends, cousins, and former high school quarterbacks Steve Juhl and Tyler Martin relive the glories of a childhood spent out-of-doors in the sunflower state.

The QBs don't actually end up talking about 90s toys in this one. They meant to, but they didn't. How could they when there's so much else to talk about? Instead they compare NCAA 2003 dynasty mode college football recruiting to actual college football recruiting, react to listener reactions, and invite their first Martin child onto the show. OK, so maybe Will wasn't invited, but if you stay tuned to the end of the show, you can decide for yourself who the better Martin podcaster is.Broken news article: www.didntgetthatfarintotheshow Podcast Home: https://www.kansasqb.com Support the Show: https://www.patreon.com/kansasqb/ Updates and Live Shows: https://www.facebook.com/kansasqb/ Video Podcast Library: https://www.youtube.com/@juhlmediallc/playlists
The QBs return to a favorite topic: movies. Of course, it's not just any old genre of movies on the docket, but the greatest movie genre. What IS the greatest sports movie of all-time? Are the QBs biased towards early 90s family movies and anything having to do with football? Will Steve's brother call during the recording and accidentally join the show . . . again? Answers to these questions, and many others, await. Mark Juhl started a business and ran it for 5 years. During that time he met famous sports personalities, rubbed shoulders with millionaires, brought home memorable gifts for his boys, got saved, and . . . made almost no money. Totally worth it! The QBs are joined by fellow Kansan Brett Miner to discuss one of their all-time favorite people: junior high English/history teacher David Spangler. From cinnamon graham crackers to stories about a missing finger, Mr. Spangler was unique and great at what he did. In this episode the QBs talk about what happened after they separated. Then they discuss what could have happened. State champs in track? Basketball? They somehow spend way too much time talking about weight loss and Steve's wife Bethany wonders if he's ever coming home so that the Juhl family can make it to Kevin's birthday party. Action packed? Raised more as brothers than cousins, the QBs were all the more saddened by the circumstances that brought about their separation. This episode details the events preceding and surrounding the Juhls' exit from Midway-Denton - the school they loved so dearly. After leaving, Steve would speak to Our Friend Matt only one more time prior to starting the KSQB podcast 20+ years later and Tyler would only see Steve during the holidays. Things changed quickly; they changed drastically; and this is the story of how it all happened.https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/case-industrial-arts-classes-sean-cassel Podcast Home: https://www.kansasqb.com Support the Show: https://www.patreon.com/kansasqb/ Updates and Live Shows: https://www.facebook.com/kansasqb/ Video Podcast Library: https://www.youtube.com/@juhlmediallc/playlists
For the first time in the long, illustrious history of the show, the QBs are down a man! Coach Tyler is preparing his college athletes for a national championship run and Steve is staying up late working on media projects. Who will miss the show? Listen to find out. Who will stand in the gap? Our Friend Matt of course! Matt is a huge nerd and remembers all the best video games from the 90s . . . Oregan Trail, Mario 64, Myst, Tie Fighter, Two Towers, Hearts and more! Another long one. The QBs bring on two characters they have known for over 30 years. Daren Roberts and Brett Miner join Tyler in reminiscing about the 2000 state championship, while also hitting other important topics like how to avoid teachers you are afraid of, appropriate responses to disagreements with coaching, the QBs lack of ability to remember things properly, and, of course, whether it is OK to "get sick" prior to a high school football game. The Jayhawks are out of the NCAA tournament. To wash this bitter taste from their minds, the QBs invite their listeners to think back on some of the all-time greats who wore a Kansas University basketball jersey. Remember Raef Lafrentz? How about Wayne Simien? Or Danny Manning? Of course you remember them! Also on this episode, the QBs explain why they are also fans of Kansas State and hope you, the listener, will cheer the Wildcats into the Final Four.Broken news article: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1017650-kansas-basketball-the-top-50-players-in-school-history Podcast Home: https://www.kansasqb.com Support the Show: https://www.patreon.com/kansasqb/ Updates and Live Shows: https://www.facebook.com/kansasqb/ Video Podcast Library: https://www.youtube.com/@juhlmediallc/playlists

No, the vaunted SJPD has not found the truck or the culprit as of yet, but during the recording of this episode, an unknown number appeared as an incoming call. Could this be the tip that breaks the case? Probably not. It is far more likely that the QBs return to their habit of discussing their childhood. Who better to enhance such a discussion than Our Friend Matt? . . . who is secretly a Kansas QB? 3.5 miles West of the Denton turn-off on a muddy, poorly maintained gravel road sits an old farmstead. There's a two-story farmhouse, a large barn and a lightning-struck tree. This is where the QBs first met Mario, first enjoyed the wonders of a large trampoline, first played whiffle barn derby, and where Tyler first attacked Steve with an actual weapon. Becky weighs-in. Halle is excluded from the conversation. And Steve gives parenting advice. The QBs remember a time when they fetched water and dry footballs for the real Kansas QBs of Midway. QBs like the Frankens, and Mark Albers, and Jeremy Blanton. While Steve jealously watched Tyler running about, dry as a desert, performing his ball boy duties, he was left to contemplate why the water bottles had no lids. WHY NO LIDS?! It was the slick pants that saved Steve and Kevin . . . and Becky until she was promoted to stat-girl. Obviously, the sideline staff for Coach Martin and Coach Juhl's football teams was homegrown. In this episode the QBs reminisce. They also call Tyler's mom. They also get hung-up on by Halle. They also call fellow Kansas QB Jeremy Blanton. Tyler is missing! No worries, his dad is on hand to fill in. Why? Because it's Marks of Midway part 4! In part 3, the QBs had Mark Juhl on hand to talk about the beginning of the Midway dynasty. On this episode, Coach Martin takes us through the late 80s and on into the 90s. Will Tyler join the podcast, or won't he? Who was Coach Martin's favorite assistant? Mark Juhl or Gary Smith? Tyler's college team is still kicking booty in Iowa and Steve is still missing his childhood pet, Chip. Chip was a dog. Chip, Milo, Smokie, Jessie, Taz, Tanner, CD . . . the list continues. These are some of the animals the QBs remember fondly.
The QBs took their sweet time getting to this holiday themed episode. Better late than never may not apply to trick-or-treating, but it certainly applies to podcasting. In this episode the QBs discuss their memories of Halloween. It's a spooky good time! It's actually not spooky at all, so go ahead and give it a listen.
In the red corner it's Tyler with Playmobils. In the blue corner it's Steve with Legos. Which toy is the greatest toy of all time?! The QBs duke it out . . . well, they talk about how much they enjoy both. Do YOU have a favorite? There DOES seem to be a clear winner.
The QBs relive fun times had in the great state of Indiana at the nation's premiere FCA basketball camp (as far as they know). Zone defense in youth basketball is mentioned (again), hallmarks of quality youth basketball camps are discussed, but nobody cares about that stuff. No. The star of this episode is Sharidyn Juhl! She returns for her third installment of 60 Seconds with Sharidyn. Today she gives HER take on Worlds of Fun.
Technology tried to thwart them, but the QBs will not be silenced! The QBs spend the 22nd episode discussing a childhood favorite: Worlds of Fun. Can you smell the asphalt and funnel cake? Tyler remembers the park with fondness while Steve suffers some post traumatic stress, but both QBs wish a hearty "welcome back" to the Zambezi Zinger!
Apparently, the 90s decade was pretty great when it comes to movies. The QBs remember the flicks of their youth as they count down their favorites from a top 65 list. It must be said that these manly QBs spend an uncomfortable amount of time confessing their love for Disney princess movies . . .
Board games don't have to be boring. The QBs spend their 20th episode discussing the games they played as youths in the 90s. Anyone remember Tornado Rex? If the answer is yes, consider yourself a friend of the show!
Due to an SD card malfunction, the QBs lose track of time and talk far too long about their elementary teachers. Ms. Mace, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Baird, Mrs. Bevis, Mrs. Pauly, and Mrs. Simms were all fantastic teachers at Midway Elementary School, but can you name the QB's favorite teacher? Hint: the QBs call her a lot. Also in this episode, Steve accidentally drops a sensitive word in Mrs. Simms' class, Tyler is ashamed of Steve for forgetting their first grade teacher, and Steve tries something truly desperate to get out of school.
The article says that remembering the good times can get you through the sad times. The QBs continue to test this theory as they recall some of the best times they had playing organized youth sports. Also in this episode, Sharidyn makes her second appearance on the show!
Can you name all of the business that operated in the small town you grew up in? The QBs think they can. In this episode, the QBs pick a business that meant a lot to them and the community they grew up in. Also in this episode, the bierock kerfuffle spirals out of control, Steve cries over a superman VHS, and Tyler drops a soda.
After taking a short vacation from the pod, the QBs are back! And they are hungry. In this episode, Steve admits to an odd diet, Tyler longs for the days of the pyramid, and Steve's niece debuts a new segment entitled "60 Seconds with Sharidyn" (as well as the hashtag #EmbarassTyler).
Sure, go America! But that's not what the QBs are talking about today. They are talking rural Kansas - one of their favorite topics. On today's episode, Steve teases a new exciting segment, Tyler provides insight regarding the pros and cons of country living, and both QBs talk about some of their favorite spots in . . . The Country.PS Happy 1000th download! Thanks for listening.
In this episode, the QBs recall what it was like to be the kids of teachers. On the one hand, keys to the gym. On the other hand, no getting away with anything. And on the other hand . . . keys to the gym.
The QBs are considering firing their producer as episode 13 is by far their longest yet. There was a lot to talk about as they took on the topic of music in the 90s. Since they were raised on Christian Contemporary Music, you will hear DC Talk mentioned quite a few times. Towards the end of the episode, Steve pulls out all the stops to make sure Tyler loses his newest surprise game.
This double episode is all about Operation "The Eagle is Re-Landing." With this series, the QBs are reconnecting with some old friends. During the episode, the QBs talk about the best way to make a music video prior to the digital age, why Matt couldn't go back into the game, and who is to blame for all of the nerdy stuff that Steve is into.
Tyler takes over the show as the QBs return to a favorite topic: coaches' kids. In this 11th episode, the QBs discuss things they observed while being coached by their dads, and how that informs the coaching of their own kids. Also in this episode: the noise Mark Juhl makes when players named Keith lose outside contain, the things Tyler had to do in order to be allowed to eat dinner, and pet peeves of both Steve and Tyler within the arena of youth sports.
There has been an elephant. The QBs have been ignoring the elephant for the longest time. The Kansas QB podcast has forced Steve and Tyler to deal with the fact that they have been bad friends. What can they do to become slightly less bad? Commence operation "The Eagle is Re-Landing!"
Episode 9 is all about moms. What makes a good one? The QBs travel to the most remote parts of the internet to find criteria they can use to judge "mom goodness." Also in this episode, the QBs call Tyler's mom, Nancy, to congratulate her on her 73rd wedding anniversary and see if their childhood memories match her own recollections.
The QBs talk about their favorite things to do in the snow on beautiful winter days in a small town. Tyler remembers the ice storm that led to an epic battle, Steve recalls a network of snow tunnels, and one QB finally confesses one of his greatest fears and darkest moments. Warning: things get heavy towards the end . . .
In week three of the podcast, the QBs begin the week with an episode mostly about the shows they remember watching growing up in the 90s. If you remember actors like Jane Seymour, Roma Downing, Della Reese, Tim Allen, and (of course) Chuck Norris, then you may be able to envision what some Fall Saturday nights were like at the Martins' house in 1996.
The QBs take a hard look in the mirror to determine just how annoying they may have been to their older siblings. Newsweek (or is it the New York Times?) shares insights into brother/brother and brother/sister fighting, the QBs rate their parents' parenting skills, and the QBs agree that they were lucky to have the siblings they had during their formative years in this 6th installment of the show. It goes without saying that Kevin and Becky had the coolest little brothers.
The QBs return to the topic of their dads to finish what they started with Marks of Midway Part 1. They discuss Steve's departure from coaching, why coaches retire when they do, and Steve's greatest pickup lines while under the influence of a concussed brain. The QBs also bring on special guest Mark Juhl and announce new ways to keep up with the show.
Against all odds, the QBs are back! Clearly their wives are finding the podcast just as irresistible as the tens and tens of Kansas QB listeners across the world (shoutout to Germany and Hungary). In episode 4, the QBs fact check Harvard, remember their favorite outdoor games, and check in with some old friends in a segment entitled "ask a Bendenian."
As far as the QBs are concerned, the greatest video game of all-time came out in 1991. In episode 3, they recall the smells of Tyler's basement, discuss Tyler's reasons for not letting Steve play the greatest game of all-time, and decide to record this episode as if it were their last . . . because it could be.
Mark Juhl and Mark Martin are two of the greatest 8-man football coaches ever to take up a whistle. On this second jumbo episode, the QBs talk about these two titans of football coaching, discuss what it is like playing for Coach Dad, chat with a special guest, and ponder whether the podcast will continue past episode 3. The QBs agree that there are two coaches not in the Kansas football hall of fame who should be!
