Coach Forward is an interview-style podcast hosted by Jason Mejeur (Coach J), accomplished Coach, Mentor, and Founder/CEO at OWN IT.Highlights from the episode:[13:41] Leading By Listening[15:57] Being Question-Oriented vs. Statement-Oriented[25:07] Creating A Mission-Vision-Process Team[28:59] Teaching Players To Lead[34:30] When Oregon Baseball Ditched The Fancy Nike Gear[37:46] When A Walk-On Called Out The Head Coach[44:45] Player-Led Culture SessionsToday I got to talk with Coach Mark Wasikowski, Head Coach of Oregon Baseball.During his five-year tenure as a head coach, Mark Wasikowski has proven he can turn a program around in a hurry. In his first full season at Oregon, Wasikowski led the Ducks to a 12-win improvement over Oregon's win total the season before he became UO's head coach. The Oregon turnaround came on the heels of an even bigger improvement at Purdue, where he was a first-time head coach. The Boilermakers won 19 more games in Wasikowski's first season at the helm than the team totaled the year before he took over the program.Wasikowski also coached both teams to postseason appearances after significant playoff droughts at both Purdue and Oregon in year two as head coach. After coaching just 15 games in his first season at the helm of the Ducks because of COVID-19, Wasikowski led Oregon to a 39-win season and a spot as an NCAA Regional host in the 2021 season. The postseason appearance was Oregon's first since the 2015 season. At Purdue, Wasikowski led the Boilermakers to a 38-win campaign in 2018 and a spot in the NCAA Regionals two years after PU finished the season 10-44. It was Purdue's first postseason appearance since 2012 and just its third in school history. As an assistant or head coach, Wasikowski helped lead 16 of his 24 teams (omitting 2020 COVID-19 shortened season) to the postseason, including three Super Regional appearances and one trip to the CWS. In four stops as an assistant coach, Wasikowski helped each of the four teams advance to the postseason. In addition to the two regional tournaments he led his teams to as a head coach, Wasikowski helped Oregon to four postseason appearances in his five seasons as an assistant on George Horton's staff. At Arizona, the Wildcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven times in his 10 years on Andy Lopez's staff in Tucson.About Jason Mejeur (Coach J)Jason has 15+ years of experience coaching basketball at the college and high school level and has lived on the sidelines and in the locker rooms working to build teams and inspire athletes. His mission is to build authentic relationships with his players so that he can impact them beyond the basketball court.More recently, Jason is building the OWN IT System to help bring data-driven sleep and health coaching to student-athletes and their teams.Join the discussion with Coach Forward on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Enjoying the podcast? The Auburn football coaching staff is undergoing changes as the Hugh Freeze era begins for the Auburn Tigers. Carnell Williams will be on the next staff. Zac Ethridge and Christian Robinson have not been notified on if they will be retained or not. All other members of the coaching staff have been told that they will not be retained. Hugh Freeze will also need to hire a defensive coordinator. Could Barry Odom leave his post as DC for the Arkansas Razorbacks and join Hugh Freeze for the Auburn Tigers? When looking at the details and the fit, it makes a lot of sense. On today's Locked On Auburn, Zac Blackerby discusses the changes on the coaching staff and why he believes some should stay and some should go. He also touches on the defensive coordinator search. Caleb (@kdiggs74) and Derek (@derekrusinek) are here to look back through week 12 of the 2022 NFL season and begin to preview week 13. They start with this day in sports history in 1987, when Bo Jackson set the single game rushing record for the Raiders organization against the Seattle Seahawks. Josh Jacobs broke this record this past weekend. The Brodies then look at some of the preseason projections that were both right and wrong, and do our overreactions and under the radar to freak out about week 12 and talk a little bit about the college football coaching carousel. Then it's over to the NFL as they release the Week 12 Power Rankings. This episode features highlights on the Cincinnati Bengals, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Washington Commanders. We discuss the Wisconsin Badgers football coaching search, who makes the most sense between Jim Leonhard, Dave Aranda, Matt Rhule and Lance Leipold. We start by ranking the candidates, why this is Jim Leonhard's job to lose but why he can actually lose it. I talk a little bit about Matt Rhule and why his NFL failures don't matter to me at all. I talk about Dave Aranda and why in some ways he makes more sense than Jim Leonhard, he's done a lot of the same defensive coordinator magic, but he's also shown the ability to be a successful head coach and has more recruiting experience than Leonhard. Finally I talk about Lance Leipold and how much of a negative his age is ? Would it matter ? Why he makes so much sense as the only candidate on the list to have built sustained success as a head coach. Keaton Riley jumps on the show to discuss the Wisconsin Badgers football coaching search, we talk about Dave Aranda, Lance Leipold and Jim Leonhard; as well as offensive line struggles. First we start with Keaton's big picture thoughts, how is he processing the firing of Paul Chryst and what does he think of the timing ? We talk about the importance of this weekend's game against Northwestern and how this season could go off the rails if Wisconsin doesn't play well. Next we talk about what Keaton thinks of each of the most-mentioned candidates for the job. We talk about Dave Aranda and why his connections to Wisconsin are probably overblown and how expensive he is going to be. We talk about Lance Leipold and why his background of winning and player development would be a home run addition, but are we concerned with his age ? Finally we get into the lead candidate for the job, Jim Leonard. We talk a little bit about what he needs to do this year to win the spot. Finally we discuss the underperforming offensive line. Keaton talks about how the Badgers have failed in their development and wonders what happened to all of our depth.
