Nick and Foxx are two friends reviewing all of the latest Major Motion Pictures and talking all things movies.
Nick and Foxx are back this week and reviewing the sequel to the 2020 video game film Sonic The Hedgehog. After a rough start with the animation prior to the first movie, the franchise has bounced back in a big way as the sequel is arguably better than the well-performing first film. The humor appeals to children and adults alike and the action is enough to prevent it from being corny. This franchise has a legitimate claim to being the best video game movie property of all time. Nick and Foxx are back after a small hiatus as they return reviewing Morbius, the latest Sony Marvel movie. You've seen the reviews on this movie, and we can just say, there's a reason this movie was as bad as the critics have said... NICK: 19 FOXX: 65 TNT: The Slap, and every other big piece of news that happened while we were out
Nick and Foxx are back after a brief hiatus and reviewing the biggest movie of 2022 yet, The Batman. Robert Pattinson steps into the role of the caped crusader with Director Matt Reeves at the helm, utilizing a darker, grittier and more noir feel to the classic character. Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, Colin Ferrel and more offer a crazy talented supporting cast that all deliver. The Batman is different from any predecessors and will challenge what you think about the franchise as a whole. NICK: 94 FOXX: 95 TNT: I Am Legend 2 News, Deep Water Trailer, WB Delayed DC Movies, and more!
Nick and Foxx are back and reviewing the latest video game movie: Uncharted. Street-smart Nathan Drake is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor "Sully" Sullivan to recover a fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan, and lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada. This movies combines aspects and storylines from multiple Uncharted games, causing it to be more choppy than seamless. While aiming to be a fun adventure, Uncharted comes off as a poorly put together trip. It has fun moments, but ultimately feels like another miss from Sony. NICK: 56 FOXX: 60 TNT: Peacemaker Finale
Nick and Foxx are back this week and reviewing the latest whodunnit film: Death on the Nile. In a follow up to 2017's Murder on the Orient Express, Kenneth Branagh returns to star and direct in this latest murder mystery. Whodunnits are beloved for their misdirections and big reveals, but Death on the Nile is more focused on the storyline and exposition. It is a new take on a whodunnit, but falls flat do to the lack of "ah ha" moments. Still, it serves its purpose and is well shot. NICK: 52 FOXX: 66 TNT: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Trailer, Star Trek Sequel, New Transformers Trilogy, Peacemaker Season 2
Nick and Foxx are back as they're gearing up for award season with the review of newly Best Picture Nominated movie, Nightmare Alley. This movie is the latest from acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro and is a new spin on his typical style. Nightmare Alley features a longer movie, focused on the rise and fall of Stan, played by Bradley Cooper. This movie is much more story driven than some of del Toro's previous work, and it works well in some areas but does drag in others. However, it picks up at the climax of the movie and does manage to go complete circle, a rare occurrence in Hollywood nowadays. NICK: 74 FOXX: 62 TNT: Jurassic World: Dominion Trailer, The Rock, Alcohol Talk
Nick and Foxx are back and reviewing Roland Emmerich's latest disaster genre film: Moonfall. This movie incorporates plenty of the tried and true disaster film aspects and doesn't have a lot of depth, but does have some stuff working in its favor. Patrick Wilson and Halle Berry do well together and while the ending gets a little whacky, it is still a fine movie. Nick: 55 Foxx: 64 TNT: Halo Trailer, The Rock's Video Game Movie and More!
Nick and Foxx are back and reviewing the latest Disney animated movie: Encanto. This movie is the latest in a long line of recent Disney animated films that have found strong success as 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' is one of the most popular Disney songs of all time. Despite releasing 3 to 4 animated films per year, Disney has found another winner with Encanto and does so through switching up the typical animated movie blueprint. NICK: 75 FOXX: 76 TNT: Batman Clip, The Rock's Video Game Movie, Super Secret MMP Screener and more!
Nick and Foxx are back reviewing the latest installment to the iconic horror franchise: Scream. Yet another meta thriller slasher whodunit, Scream (5) establishes and follows the rules of a "re-quel" by bringing back legacy characters in Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, while introducing a new group of main characters with ties to the original characters. This movie is just another example of how the franchise continues to be able to do the same thing over and over again but in a new way with new commentary. The first film without creator Wes Craven is done justice as this movie sets up more possible additions to come. NICK: 79 FOXX: 81 TNT: Moon Knight Trailer, The Fallout Trailer, Joss Whedon News & More!
Nick and Foxx are back after the holiday break and reviewing The King's Man today, the latest in the Kingsman franchise by director Matthew Vaughn. The King's Man serves as a prequel to the franchise and takes a much different tone than it's predecessor Kingsman movies. The franchise is known for its dark comedy and creative action sequences, but The King's Man is much more story driven, setting the stage for how the secret organization came to be. After a choppy start, the movie does hit its stride midway through and finishes strong. There aren't as many memorable lines or scenes as some of the previous films, but it holds its own and is a fine addition to the franchise. NICK: 66 FOXX: 70 TNT: Death on the Nile Trailer, Bel Air Trailer, TV Show Talk & More!
Nick and Foxx are back this week and reviewing Matrix: Resurrections. This is the 4th installment of the Matrix franchise that reboots the story. While extremely meta and subverting the previously three movies, Resurrections features an intriguing and trippy concept, but with poor execution. This might be the first and only review we ever do where we have more questions than answers, which leads to a very fun and entertaining conversation. NICK: 50 FOXX: 65 TNT: The Northman Trailer, Uncharted Trailer, Marvel Updates
It is the episode we have all ben waiting for... Nick and Foxx are finally getting to review Spider-Man No Way Home. It is 2.5 hours of nothing but Spider-Man and Marvel Talk, and it was awesome. Buckle up for a wild ride.
Nick and Foxx are back reviewing House of Gucci this week as this is the latest ensemble movie to hit theaters. This is based on the true story of the murder of Maurizio Gucci and the rise of the Gucci brand. While there is a story to tell, Ridley Scott and co. do not always do the best job at telling it. They choose to go in depth in certain areas that don't necessarily need it, but fail to add depth in other areas that do need it, which is already a problem, but is amplified by the fact that this movie is over 2.5 hours long. That being said, this movie is held up strongly by the performances of Lady Gaga, Adam Driver and the others. It is campy and overacted, but you cannot say that they did not try. NICK: 74 FOXX: 68 TNT: Sonic 2 Trailer, Everything Everywhere All at Once Trailer, A24 Talk, Hawkeye Recap, and more!
Nick and Foxx are back and reviewing The Harder They Fall this week. This Western is a recent Netflix film that features a stacked cast headlined by Johnathan Majors, Idris Elba, Regina King and more. While the move has it's rough patches, it does finish on a strong note and the cast shines throughout. Johnathan Majors proves he is capable of being a leading actor as his performance is arguably the strongest among the litany of high powered actors around him. It isn't an instant classic, but this movie is worth the watch. NICK: 73 FOXX: 82 TNT: Spider-Verse 2 Trailer, Matrix Trailer, Oppenheimer Cast and plenty of Marvel News
Nick and Foxx are back reviewing Ghostbusters: Afterlife today. The latest iteration of the franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife does more for the franchise than its 2016 predecessor. This film pays homage to the aspects of the original movies that made them so special, but does not try to copy what made them special either. Paul Rudd & McKenna Grace steal the show as this is a very solid sequel to the franchise. NICK: 83 FOXX: 78 TNT: The Matrix Trailer, Alec Baldin, HCA Awards & More!
Nick and Foxx are back as the review the highly anticipated movie from Will Smith about the life of the tennis superstar sisters Venus and Serena Williams. This movie tackles the story telling of two of the biggest sports stars in the world at a time where the path to stardom was very unclear. Not only does Will Smith display his ability to play a dramatic role, he does so in amazing fashion in a performance that should and will garner Oscar attention. A strong supporting cast and a well written film making this one of the best moves of the year without question. NICK: 95 FOXX: 95 TNT: Nightmare Alley Trailer, Turning Red Trailer, Jurassic World Dominion Clip, Hawkeye Recap and more!
Nick and Foxx are back covering a very busy week in movie news. We tackle all of the announcements from Disney Plus Day and breakdown what we're most excited for. We then transition to the most recent No Way Home trailer that came out on Tuesday and give our thoughts, reactions and some minor predictions. For TNT, we talk about 'Don't Look Up' & 'Dog' as well as the Avatar Live Action Series, New Movie Posters & more! We then get into our review of Red Notice. A stacked trio with The Rock, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot is Netflix's most recent effort to throw something at a wall and see what sticks. This is the most typical Rock & Ryan Reynolds movie ever, but the chemistry and charisma keep this movie entertaining. It won't be for everyone, but the movie is self-aware enough to know what it is, and that is enough to make it an easy watch. NICK: 57 FOXX: 65
Nick and Foxx are back for their second episode this week as they get away from the major blockbuster releases and to a film like Last Night in Soho. This film is from Director Edgar Wright and features an aspiring fashion designer that is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters a dazzling wannabe singer. But the glamour is not all it appears to be and the dreams of the past start to crack and splinter into something darker. Wright uses all of his tricks, creating great lighting, tone setting and smooth transitions between Thomasin McKenzie and Anya-Taylor Joy. Giving off who-done-it vibes, this film does feature a few red herrings that you can see through, but does have a satisfying ending. It can be a slow burn at times, but overall this movie is worth checking out. NICK: 82 FOXX: 70 TNT: The Book of Boba Fest Trailer, True Story Trailer, Henry Cavill News & More
Nick and Foxx are back after a brief hiatus and are reviewing the latest MCU blockbuster: Eternals. This is from Academy Award winning Director Chloe Zhao about the saga of the Eternals, a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilizations. A different take on a Marvel film, Zhao breaks the mold for superhero films and brings her own vision to the MCU. After a turbulent start, the movie settles down to be very enjoyable and surprisingly manages to connect with almost every character despite introducing 11 new heroes. There are issues with this film, but the risks Zhao opts to take pay off big time as they advance the storyline and offer a more emotional story. NICK: 86 FOXX: 85
Nick and Foxx are back this week reviewing the highly anticipated Dune. An adaptation of the novel, Dune is quite the spectacle as director Denis Villeneuve delivers some stunning visual effects. This combined with a stacked cast and a strong source material should lead to a great film. However, the adaptation isn't quite seamless. Plenty of the story gets lost in the shuffle as the lore is deep and complex, and while this first act is an attempt at world building for the Dune universe, you are still left with plenty of questions by the end. NICK: 73 FOXX: 82 TRAILER TALK: Uncharted, Red Notice, The Unforgivable, Ambulance, Lightyear
Nick and Foxx are back as they get into spooky szn mode with Halloween Kills. The follow up to the 2018 film features the townspeople of Haddonfield rise up to fight back against Michael Myers. This film does a great job of capturing that mob mentality and although it doesn't have the best plot or writing, you do get some good action scenes as Michael Myers definitely does what the title states he does: kills. Ultimately, Halloween Kills isn't quite to the level that the 2018 film hits, but it does serve as a progression to the story without being overly repetitive. The pivot to a more campy, slasher nature as opposed to a psychological thriller like the original film seems to have worked, as the franchise is back to being well received. NICK: 52 FOXX: 72 TRAILER TALK (5:10) - Hit Monkey, The Batman, The Flash, Black Adam NON-SPOILER REVIEW (51:34) SPOILER REVIEW (1:12:05)
Nick and Foxx are back as they review No Time to Die, the latest and last film of the Daniel Craig run as James Bond. While there have certainly been some misses in Daniel Craig's time as 007, there has also been some massive hits and No Time to Die is more of the latter. There is still plenty to nitpick within the film itself as it is a very long movie, which is one of the things we nitpick in itself, all in all this movie was very intentional with its actions and it serves as a good send off to Daniel Craig. You might find yourself wondering how much you actually care at the beginning, but by the end you will feel sad that this is the last time we will see Daniel Craig as James Bond. NICK: 85 FOXX: 85 TRAILER TALK (11:02) - Home Sweet Home Alone, The Beatles: Get Back, The Black Phone, Scream NON-SPOILER REVIEW (49:30) SPOILER REVIEW (1:15:10)
Nick and Foxx are back reviewing the latest SonyVerse film in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. This sequel to the promising Venom origin story features another strong performance from Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom with a more imposing villain in Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kassidy/Carnage. This foundation would lead you to believe that the duo would be a lock to make this a good movie, but that isn't always the case. The short runtime, while trying to make for a clear and concise storyline, does not allow time for character development leading all the performances to fall short, to no fault of the actors. A forced storyline involving Naomie Harris' Shriek is nothing more than a distraction and they do not do a good job explaining the backstory and explaining why things are happening. Venom 2 does have it's good moments with the humor and visual effects, but you can't help but feel like you saw too many important scenes in the trailers and what was left wasn't all that impressive as there wasn't even much left to show. NICK: 58 FOXX: 65 TRAILER TALK (19:25) NON SPOILER REVIEW (48:00) SPOILER REVIEW (1:12:25)
Nick and Foxx are back this seeking doing a throwback review of the 2008 Comedy hit Tropic Thunder. This movie one of a kind, as the satirical nature of the film, constantly poking fun at Hollywood through Meta references and stereotypes. Robert Downey Jr. steals the show, even in the Academy Awards' eyes, and it is extremely fun to go back and watch his performance especially after all of the Marvel movies. The star studded cast all deliver and this movie stands the test of time. They don't make them like this anymore. NICK: 95 FOXX: 95 TRAILER TALK (19:13) - Licorice Pizza, The Harder They Fall REVIEW (29:48) TOP 5 FAVORITE COMEDIES (1:04:46)
Nick and Foxx are back as they review Copshop this week. In what feels like an early 2000s action comedy, Copshop delivers an easy watch that does not require much investment. You get good humor and good action, albeit not top tier, is still very entertaining. Copshop is the perfect streaming movie that won't be a waste of time to watch. NICK: 63 FOXX: 78 TRAILER TALK (20:37) - West Side Story, Finch, American Underdog, Passing, The Tragedy of Macbeth NON-SPOILER REVIEW (43:02) SPOILER REVIEW (57:25) BUILDING AN ACTION COMEDY (1:10:52)
Nick and Foxx are back and this week they go at it as they review Malignant. This is James Wan's latest horror film and one could argue no current director knows the genre better. The classic style of Wan Movies such as Saw, The Conjuring, and even some Furious 7 & Aquaman come through with Malignant. However, an overly campy performance throughout the movie leaves many people with differing opinions. Is this a love letter to 70s and 80s style B-Level horror movies? Or is this just not a good movie? NICK: 42 FOXX: 80 TRAILER TALK (17:22) - C'mon, C'mon, Don't Look Up, Matrix: Resurrections, Many Saints of Newark, Hawkeye NON SPOILER REVIEW (54:05) SPOILER REVIEW (1:22:32)
Nick and Foxx are back and reviewing the latest MCU film: Shang Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings. Shang Chi delivers on all its promises, providing authentic action, genuine performances, and great representation. Tony Leung delivers an all time MCU Villain performance and Simu Liu establishes himself as a legitimate superhero. The movie has some minor issues with dialogue, but is washed away with the amazing action, chemistry and phenomenal third act. Shang Chi cracks the top 10 of MCU films. NICK: 91 FOXX: 88 TRAILER TALK (23:30): Lego Star Wars Terrifying Tales, Moonfall, The Guilty, Red Notice NON SPOILER REVIEW (44:57) SPOILER REVIEW (1:10:25) MARVEL MOVIE AND SHOW PREVIEW (1:53:05)
Nick and Foxx are back and reviewing sequel to the 1992 film, Candyman. Candyman delivers a great concept and wonderful camera-work, but loses itself along the way. Ultimately the viewers are given a solid follow up to the original film, but are still left wondering what could've been if some more details were ironed out. Nevertheless, we will never say his name 5 times in the mirror... NICK: 60 FOXX: 65 TRAILER TALK (14:05): No Time to Die, The King's Man, Spencer, The Power of the Dog
Nick and Foxx are back as they review their first streaming movie this week: Pixar's Luca on Disney+. Luca is the latest movie from Pixar and is about a sea monster's coming of age story as he learns what life is like outside of the sea. While Luca doesn't reach the elite top tier of Pixar films, it still manages to deliver a charming story despite a simple and straightforward plot. NICK: 79 FOXX: 70 TRAILER TALK (12:39): Impeachment: American Crime Story, The Starling MARVEL NEWS (28:50): Shang Chi Critic Reviews, Eternals Trailer & Breakdown, Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer, Venom 2 Delayed, WHAT IF Thoughts LUCA REVIEW (1:05:00) TOP 5 FAVORITE PIXAR MOVIES (1:29:00)
Nick and Foxx are back as the review the surprise movie of the year: Free Guy. Free Guy is a refreshing take on not only a video game, action-comedy movie, but also does an excellent job of a hybrid romantic-comedy as well. This is a Ryan Reynolds movie through and through, but it is not overbearing or too in your face, as the naivety of Guy's character provides a nice balance. Jodie Comer shines with Reynolds, and Taika, Lil Rel and Joe Keery offer a great supporting cast with phenomenal cameos along the way. If you have been turned off by Ryan Reynolds movies or Video Game movies in the past, definitely give Free Guy a watch and a chance to change your mind. NICK: 85 FOXX: 80 TRAILER TALK: Star Wars: Visions, Prisoners of Ghostland (11:46) NON-SPOILER REVIEW: (24:25) SPOILER REVIEW: (40:15)
Nick & Foxx are back as they tackle James Gunn's "The Suicide Squad" in today's review. The reboot of the 2016 bomb was definitely a step up, but hard to always compare directly as the two movies have wildly different tones. Gunn's adaption is much more colorful, fun and full of humor whereas the 2016 version was much more serious. James Gunn succeeds yet again in getting you to care about obscure characters, but it is hard to fully get into this movie with the wacky nature as well as the unsure state of the DCEU. Definitely worth the watch as it is not a waste of your time, like its predecessor. NICK: 75 FOXX: 69 TRAILER TALK: Cry Macho (16:20) NON SPOILER REVIEW: (19:20) SPOILER REVIEW: (29:50)
Nick and Foxx are back in their first ever two movie review episode. The Opening Scene today features a question regarding Spin-Offs and if they are worthwhile if they're not as good as the original property. We then move on to trailer talk (8:55) which includes some very exciting movies, such as King Richard, Venom 2 and Shang Chi. (34:45) Snake Eyes is first up for the review, as Nick and Foxx both found it very underwhelming. The movie played out like a generic action movie with poor directorial decisions, even though it seemed as though the cast gave it their best effort. NICK: 43 FOXX: 55 (59:48) We then move onto Old, which is the latest M. Night movie. The movie starts off very well, keeping viewers entertained with the looming mystery and feeling of no escape. However, in true M. Night fashion, they twist gets played and completely takes out the viewer, leaving you dissatisfied with what was otherwise a good movie. NICK: 60 FOXX: 65
Nick and Foxx talk the latest film in the fast franchise, how this franchise got here, and where it goes next. NICK: 53 FOXX: 72
In the debut episode for the podcast, Nick and Foxx review the latest MCU project, Black Widow. The movie starts off well, giving viewers a taste of the long awaited action we haven't had in over two years, but the ending falls just short, adding this movie to a long list of a recurring problem in MCU films. Overall, the movie is enjoyable as the stars shine and Scarlett Johansson gets her well deserved feature film.
