My name is John, and I am a nerd. I have lots of other nerdy friends. For many years we would get together, drink and talk about all kinds of nerdy things. Now no longer are those conversations shrouded in the privacy of whosever house we are hanging ou
After a rather lengthy hiatus due to tragic technology death, OND is back... again. Recorded on the holiday formally known as Easter Rojen and I pour one out for a lengthy role call of celebrities, catch up on the cavalcade of things we missed, more stories of "It Came from John's Poor Impulse Control", and we discuss why we are both currently in love with physical media. With luck, we'll be back with more shows as we now witness the power of my fully operational podcasting station.
So we had a whole bunch of topics we wanted to cover in this issue since it had been a while since we recorded. Instead we launched into an almost two hour deep dive to talk about Fast Food and a few other random off shoot topics. Grab yourself a snack before you listen to this one, you are going to be hungry.
Come celebrate the two high Holy Weeks of the Nerd Calendar with us as we talk the San Diego Comic Con and Gen Con. We also have a spoiler heavy review of Deadpool and Wolverine and drool over some of the upcoming items in the Prop Store's Summer Auction.
It's a summer without blockbuster movies so far so in this issue of Old Nerds Drinking we discuss possibly one of the strangest movies ever made that was so weird even Rojen, connoisseur of weird and strange movies, was blown away. We finally talk about the amazing Fallout tv show from Amazon Prime and get to talk a little bit about the Acolyte on the Star Wars front.
After a short travel break we are back. We pour one out for King Theoden and Lower Decks. We round up my recent round of travels as well as take a peek into some drama happening in the Warhammer 40k community. Finally, in honor of the Kentucky Derby we once again play "Weed Strain or Horse Name".
After a four month hiatus (did you miss us?), OND is back to spill the spice on Dune part 2. Roe and I literally dust off the microphones to catch up a little bit, have some drinks and talk about what is becoming the biggest movie to hit theaters in months.
Just in time for the start of the holiday season OND is back with a double sized new episode. Sadly we say goodbye to OND's unofficial third member and pour one out for Kitty Sammy. We sample some of Rojen's secret mead stash. We go down an internet rabbit hole and listen to some classic Filk music. Finally we ramble on about what we hope is coming for Hollywood now that both the Writers and Actors strikes have been settled.
Disclaimer: In this issue we have a discussion that is a little heavier than our previous issues. We have a frank discussion about religion and spirituality that is not meant to condescending and comes from a place of respect and curiosity. In this issue we say goodbye to Jimmy Buffet, a true legend of the drinking pantheon. We also discuss if fandoms could be considered a religion, I tell the story of my legendary garage sale find and finally we talk about a once in a lifetime collection coming to auction.
A day late for our August Issue and the end of summer. In this issue we pour one out for some true legends, more stories of the internet tempting me with things that I want, we talk about the 30th anniversary of Jurassic Park, and we talk about the first two episodes of Ahsoka.
Still alive and ready for action in this issue we discuss the upcoming high holy week of the nerd calendar, Comic Con and the dark clouds that are gathering around it. We drink some Unicorn Farts and celebrate the 41st anniversary of Tron.
In this issue we finally get to our wrap up of Season Three of the Mandalorian, we talk about what impact the Writers Guild of America's strike could have on upcoming shows, and speculate on the impending streaming wars.
In this Issue we have our annual recap of the cool and strange things we bought at the annual city wide garage sale as well as swapping some gaming stories.
This is the second half of our last session where we talk about some new shows coming out, play race horse or weed strain, and ramble on.
In this Issue Roe and I are back in the Nerdcave where we taste test a new white trash cocktail of summer, taste test some crazy snacks, discuss WotC sending armed thugs to a customers home, and wrap it up with a touching tribute to Harry Bellefonte.
After the tragic loss of an entire episode and taking some time to deal with some personal stuff we finally have a new Issue of Old Nerds Drinking. In this issue we are live from Penguicon 2023 one of my absolute favorite local conventions.
In this issue we have a though provoking discussion on the history of video games, their cultural influence and how to preserve them for future generations.
Some of you had been asking what happened to Issue No. 39. It wasn't lost, it was just misplaced. In this issue we talk about a lot of stuff from the return of the summer blockbuster season to the Doomsday Clock.
This issue is not safe for work, it may not even be safe for human consumption, but this is a "Best Of" compellation of all our worst content. The stuff that was funny but not fit for the tone I usually like to keep the show at. You will also notice that this show is out of order. While editing Issue 039 I realized I had enough clips to make a whole show out of so I threw this together as a special. Standard level of bawdy content will return next issue. Which is actually the previous issue.
In this issue we pick up the conversation talking about the recent controversy surrounding Dungeons and Dragons, the Open Gaming License 2.0, and Wizards of the Coasts getting critically hit by the fan community.
In this issue we try out some of Taco... Bells new spicy chicken wings and we talk about TV shows and Songs which have been lost to the sands of time.
As the prophecy foretold part two of our OND Star Wars Holiday Special hits the streets.
Twas the night before Christmas, and I decided to read a special story for all the members of the OND Nation.
After a brief Thanksgiving break we are back with another spectacular issue of Old Nerds Drinking. In this Issue we welcome back semi-regular partner in crime Jake to talk about all things Star Wars in our very own Star Wars Holiday Special.
Another Friday another new issue of OND, and by new I mean slightly old. In this the second half of the last issue we talk about Cats, Werewolf by Night, new music from Queen, and more random stuff than you can shake a 10' pole at.
Another Friday another new issue of Old Nerds Drinking. In this issue we pour one out for Angela Lansbury and the Cartoon Network. Plus the latest installment of "Adventures in John's Poor Impulse Control".
On time and on budget here is the part two I promised in the pervious issue. We finish up our d23 recap as well as a few other things to look out for from Amazon. I also pulled a few Deep Cuts from the OND archive that were left on the edit room floor.
Has it been a month already? Attempts were made to record sooner and they all fell through so here is this months episode. In this Issue we say goodbye to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, we toast to the two year anniversary of OldNerdsDrinking.com, we discuss the "Twerk Heard Round the World" and we recap a lot of the cool things that were revealed at the D23 expo. This is going to be Part One of Two as there is still a good half an hour stuff Roe and I talk about but we will save that for a Part Two to be released soon.
After one of our semi-annual random breaks OND is back, again. While we were not able to make the pilgrimage to high holy week of nerds, or Comic Con, Roe and I discuss some of the reveals from the convention. There was a lot to cover and we were forced to resort to me having notes. We also say a salute to some great names of the nerd pantheon that are no longer with us and wrap up Obi-wan since our last issue was us talking about the first episode.
It is a triple threat issue this week from the Nerd Cave as we bring together myself, Roejen, and OND semi regular Tom to talk about the first two episodes of the Disney Plus Obi Wan Kenobi show. We also take a look at an insane 4th of July LARP in Poland where everyone pretends to be American.
In this issue we celebrate the triumphant return of the Mexican Pizza and ponder if it will live up to the hype. We talk about casting news for Dune part two and spoil the crap out of Doctor Strange and Moon Knight.
The man, the myth, the legend Roejen makes his triumphant return to the Nerdcave. In this issue we toast with some Natural Light Vodka and talk about Moon Knight, the Academy Awards, Cosplay, Space Dive and go on one of our most meandering conversations thus far. We got so turned around we are going to have to record another episode to get to some of the epic stuff we ran out of time for.
For Women's History Month we have a special guest in the Nerd Cave, my friend Jen. She is an OG Gamer and we talk about some of our favorite video games and other nerdy topics.
Don't call it a comeback, well I guess you could call it a comeback since there hasn't been a new episode since Christmas, but making a triumphant return it is the Old Nerds Drinking podcast. In this issue I am joined by Jake, from Jake and Tom Conquer the World and we are talking the Book of Boba Fett.
It is a Christmas miracle, OND is back. It's the holiday season and somewhere Hans Gruber is falling from the Nakatomi Tower but we were here to talk about the release and cancelation of the Netflix Live Action Cowboy Bebop adaptation. In addition there is a whole slew of other great things we get on talking about as well. So much that it is going to be spread out to a two part issue. Enjoy part one this festive holiday as we look forward to getting back to regular episodes next year.
Well maybe not EXACTLY a year. In this Issue we drink old scotch, talk about old games, and gush about Dune.
An Issue over three weeks in the making! After a brief hiatus where I was desperately trying to paint my army for the Michigan GT, OND is BACK... from the past. This episode was recorded back at the end of September but the aforementioned con preparations prevented me from getting anything done with it. In this issue we discuss Shang Chi and the Ten Rings as well as a good chuck of Marvel's What if...? Then Roe and I spend some time talking about RPGs. Fear not members of the OND Nation. Releases should be back on a more regular schedule.
In an excited plus sized issue Rojen and I sample some Moonshine from his trip to the deep south. We also give a touching tribute to another lost member of the nerd world. We spoil all the Marvel What If...? episodes so far. Finally we talk about the new miniature game we are playing and me dragging Roe into the world of 3d printing.
Back from vacation with a whole load of adult beverages to taste from the great norther reaches of Michigan. Of course there is also some nerdy conversation about some upcoming movies and roleplaying games.
In this issue we take you out to the black with talk about the billionaire space race as well as some small screen media talk about Loki and The Nevers the some big screen talk about the new Dune trailer and the Black Widow.
Coming off of our best of show Roejen and I discuss Loki and the return of movies and conventions.
Well thanks to really nice weather and scheduling conflicts it finally happened. I couldn't get anyone in the studio to record with me for a Friday. Join me as I dig into the edit studio floor and dig up some of the side conversations and rants that didn't make it into their original Issues. It's our very first "Best of" episode, but not really because if it was the best stuff it would have stayed in the episode so lets just call it what it is, "The Rants You Missed."
In this brand new issue we taste test some Del Taco, we play Weed Strain or Kentucky Derby Race Horse, and then talk about the Amazon Prime show Invincible based on the comic book of the same name.
Straight out of the OND home base in the Nerd Cave, we are back on our new release day. In this issue Roejen and I test out some off the wall pops, discuss the time Pepsi had the sixth largest navy on earth, and then ramble on about what we are watching lately. But wait, THERE'S MORE! As a special added bonus audio after the "End of Line" you will get to hear a description of a horror movie act so gruesome even Roe peaced out. Enjoy.
This week is a double Old Nerd Drinking first, it is our first episode recorded with our new remote gear and our first episode recorded 100% sober. This episode we are talking to my good friend Ian Pietila, the proprietor of Golden Rhino Games and a staple of the Michigan Wargaming scene. We go into the realities of opening a game store in the middle of a global pandemic, the wargaming hobby and Warhammer 40k. So strap in for some deep nerding.
After a brief hiatus and quarantine Rojen is back in the studio with us for lucky issue thirteen. This week we drink a memorial toast to a Detroit Podcasting Legend, we talk about the gentlemanly pursuit of collecting junk, and we break tradition and dive into a full spoiler review of the latest episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
This week we have another crossover episode with those guys Jake and Tom. We check in with Roejen who is currently fighting the Rona and then we recap the first Disney+ Marvel series WandaVision.
Fresh off the street it is Issue No. 011 of Old Nerds Drinking. In this issue I welcome guest host and fellow podcaster Dave the Nerd of Dave's Nerd Compendium to talk about some hot news about the Role Playing Game industry that hit the feeds last week. We also reminisce about our High School Role Playing Club (from the before time, in the long long ago) and close out with some fresh Jazz music from the teacher that sponsored it. Please check out Carl Poposki and his album Walkabout on Spotify.
Join us for a quick, thanks to the magic of editing, trip down memory lane as one of the internets earliest viral memes turns 20. We also discuss the House Economic Committee's hearings about the Game Stop fiasco and discuss a mysterious TV paradox.
Delayed a few days due to technical difficulties Issue No.9 hits the streets featuring a truly titanic battle between the Titans of Wallstreet vs the Apes of Reddit. We also discuss Japan's possible legal challenges to the world of Cosplay and what the repercussions of that could be for the rest of the world as well as Sea Shanties taking the internet by storm.
After a little bit of a holiday hiatus we are back and at it again. Roe and I catch up on what we have been up to, discuss some miniature games I have discovered, a little bit of cyberpunk, Wanda Vision, and a little bit of history about the deadliest sniper in history. Sadly due to time constraints we had to sacrifice another twenty minute side conversation about Star Wars but it was mostly rehashing old ground so I don't think it was a tragic loss. This was also our first attempt to record without Roe and I in the same room and there were some serious audio issues. I had to work a lot of magic to make it passable but you may hear some points where we go from talking normal to where it sounds much louder because of digital amplification. I hope you enjoy this and we should be back on schedule next issue.
The thrilling conclusion of our double sized crossover issue with Jake and Tom from the Jake and Tom Conquer the World Podcast. We wrap up our review of the last two episodes of The Mandalorian and then go over some of the upcoming projects Disney announced at their December shareholders meeting.
