Thinking Like JesusThis Sunday, we continued in 1 Corinthians 2:14–16 and were reminded that the natural person can't understand the things of God—they're spiritually discerned. But through the Spirit, God gives us more than understanding—He gives us the ability to think like Jesus. His Spirit reshapes how we see the world, how we respond, and how we live.Big Idea: God's Spirit gives me the ability to think the right way about everything.Let's keep growing into the kind of people who don't just know truth—but live it.
Gospel WisdomThis Sunday, we opened 1 Corinthians 2:6–13 and were reminded: true wisdom doesn't come from this world—it comes from God.The gospel reveals a hidden wisdom that the world can't grasp. It's not about clever speech or human reasoning—but about the Spirit revealing what only God can show.Big Idea: Mature disciples understand that true wisdom is found in the gospel.Let's be a church marked by spiritual depth, not surface-level answers. Let's grow in the kind of wisdom that only comes through the Spirit—wisdom that points us to Christ, forms us in His image, and anchors us in His truth.
Where Does My Faith Rest? This week we walked through 1 Corinthians 2:1–5 and were reminded: faith rooted in human wisdom won't last—but faith built on Christ will.Paul didn't try to impress. He preached simply, clearly, and powerfully. Why? So that our faith would rest not in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.Big Idea:How Christ is taught determines the source and stability of my faith.Let's be a church marked by humble teaching and gospel-centered living.
Big Idea:I continue to do good when I remember the reasons not to give up.This Sunday, we opened Galatians 6:9–10 and talked honestly about how exhausting it can be to keep doing the right thing. Whether you're parenting, serving, grieving, or just holding on—God sees it.We were reminded: • There's a reason to keep going (v.9) • There's a promise in the process (v.9) • And there's opportunity all around us (v.10)So don't quit. God's not finished.Scripture: Galatians 6:9–10Heritage Baptist Church – Ashburn, VAhttps://heritageva.churchSubscribe for weekly teaching rooted in God's Word.
Big Idea: Asking for God's wisdom is essential for how I live my life. This Sunday, we studied James 1:5–8 and learned that God gives wisdom—willingly, generously, and without reproach—to those who ask in faith. In a world full of uncertainty, we're reminded that we don't have to figure it out on our own. God is ready to guide us if we'll simply ask and trust Him.If you're navigating decisions, challenges, or just trying to live with clarity—this message is for you.
Big Idea:Reflecting on God's work in my life reminds me to boast in Him alone. This Sunday, we walked through 1 Corinthians 1:26–31, where Paul reminds us that not many were wise, powerful, or of noble birth — yet God chose what is foolish and weak to shame the strong. We saw that our salvation, our story, and even our growth are not reasons to boast in ourselves but reasons to boast in Christ alone.God's plan highlights His power, not ours. Our past is redeemed, our lives are changed, and all the glory belongs to Him.
Big Idea: Christ's resurrection provides the only hope for me to be saved. This Easter Sunday, we looked at Romans 10:1–10, where Paul expresses his deep desire for Israel to be saved and explains how salvation is available to all who believe. We saw that righteousness comes not through the law, but through faith in Christ.Paul emphasizes that if we confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we will be saved (v. 9). This is the heart of the gospel—salvation by grace through faith, not by works. This passage reminds us that the hope of Easter is not in our performance, but in the power of Christ's resurrection.
Big Idea: A clear understanding of the gospel protects me from embracing worldly wisdom. This Sunday, we continued in 1 Corinthians 1:18–25, where Paul says the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.We saw that God has made the wisdom of the world foolish (v. 20), and that in His wisdom, the world did not know Him through its own wisdom (v. 21). Instead, God chose to save through what the world considers foolish—the preaching of Christ crucified. This passage calls us to reject the wisdom of the age and embrace the truth and power of the gospel.
In this message, Pastor Steve continues our series in 1 Corinthians by addressing the issue of division in the church. Paul urges believers to stay united under Christ—not divided by personalities or preferences. When we shift our focus away from Jesus, disunity takes root. This sermon challenges us to examine where our allegiance lies and calls us back to the centrality of Christ in all things.Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:10–17Heritage Baptist Church – Ashburn, VAhttps://heritageva.church
