Pints, Camera... Action!

Hello! Welcome back to part 2 of the Star Wars special! The Boys continue on in fine form (although perhaps towards the end we're slightly worse for wear) and continue where we left off last week. With the Sith closing in on the Jedi the boys find time to explore why listening to children isn't always the best idea (hint: they're all liars), more intergalactic politics and unnecessary Jedi skills that shouldn't work. Welcome to the fifteenth episode of Pints, Camera… Action! This week season 1 comes to an explosive end with Mark's final movie pick… “Days of Thunder.” An adrenaline fuelled action/drama outing from Director Tony Scott that Stars Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman & Robert Duvall. Set in the high-octane world of NASCAR the movie tells the tale of up-and-coming whizz-kid racing driver Cole Trickle (Cruise). With the help of veteran coach Harry Hogge (Duvall) Cole propels himself to the top rankings of American motorsport as he strives to realise his dreams and become the new champ. Along the way Cole must deal with an intense rivalry with the current top driver Rowdy Burns (Michael Rooker) and overcome his own fears and self-doubt in order to win the championship and the heart of the alluring Dr. Claire Lewicki (Kidman). The usual digressions abound as the boys discuss the relation between creepiness & attractiveness, short man syndrome and bizarre methods of explaining drifting to your girlfriend. Somehow, they also find the time to pitch a Days of Thunder reboot entitled, “Nights of Lightning!” (Never coming to a Cinema near you!) Get to the starting line it's time for Pints, Camera... Hello! Welcome to a very special bonus episode of Pint, Camera... Action! It's May the fourth be with you time so the boys are bringing to you the 1999 prequel to the original trilogy Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. This film is set before the original movies in a galaxy far far away and features an all star cast which includes, Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Jake Lloyd, Ian McDiarmid and returning Star Wars icons Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker. We meet two Jedi knights, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi as they aim to broker a peace deal with the antagonistic Trace Federation who aim to take control of the peaceful world of Naboo. As the situation becomes unstable the Jedi knights escape from Naboo with the Queen and try to bring her before the Imperial Senate in order to broker a peace treaty. However, first they must cross the galaxy and overcome a variety obstacles, characters whilst avoiding a mysterious Sith Lord who aims to prevent them from achieving their goals by any means necessary. All the while, the Jedi knights come accross a young boy who they believe is special to the Force which causes issues of its own. The boys investigate the true story of how Brexit happened, how would Jedi's cope with being Bailiffs and random characters who needlessly appear in movies with terrible accents. Because we love you all (and we kept drinking) this very special episode is split into two parts! Grab your lightsaber, channel the force… it's time for Pints, Camera… Action!

Hello! Welcome to the fourteenth episode of Pints, Camera... Action! Ready to checkin for their final movie is Nik with the 1997 action, thriller and lets not forget that it's a drama “Air Force One” directed by Wolfgang Peterson. We follow President James Marshall (Harrison Ford) as he returns to the United States from Russia following a successful joint mission where the USA and Russian special forces oust Kazakh warlord General Radek from his seat of power. However, the true path of diplomacy never runs smoothly as Air Force One is taken over by terrorists led by a merciless leader Ivan Korshunov (Gary Oldman), leaving Marshall to retake the plane alone while Vice President Kathryn Bennett tries to keep a level head in the White House whilst all others around her lose theirs. This week the boys learn that pronouncing words is hard, milk is a handy engineering tool and why you should never upset a speech writer. Your emergency exits are not needed, drinks will be served promptly upon departure… it's time for Pints, Camera… Action!

Hello! Welcome to the thirteenth episode of Pints, Camera... Action! Graham (Billy) is up for the unlucky thirteenth episode where we're going to follow Michael Douglas in “Falling Down” as he becomes Bill “D-fens” Foster. An everyman definitely having an unlucky day and just wants to get home for his daughters birthday. Unfortunately, he crosses paths with a series of Los Angeles' worst people, leading to wanton carnage in his path as Robert Duvall (Detective Prendergast) on his last day as a cop hunts him down. This week we challenge you to take a shot for every “Happy Gilmore” quote, we find out why the boys watch movies with the subtitles on and who has designs on their own solo podcast already… Grab yourself a great big bag of guns folks it's time for Pints, Camera… Action!

Hello! Welcome to the twelfth episode of Pints, Camera... Action! We're back to Beattie for the last time this series for his final crack at top spot on the leaderboard with the 1995 crime drama “Hackers”. Starring Jonny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie as Dade and Kate, we follow a group of hackers who take on the devious “The Plague” (Fisher Stevenson), a rogue Hacker on the payroll of the Ellingson Mineral Company who is embroiled in a conspiracy to capsize an oil tanker and blame it on the innocent teens whilst simultaneously stealing millions of dollars. The boys this week explore Addy's unparalleled hatred for a classic British comedy, whether you can have too many montages in a movie and the differences between American and British police following up on crimes. Hello! Welcome to the eleventh episode of Pints, Camera... Action! It's the final round of movies and we're back to Addy for his third pick, the 1996 Oscar winning, crime caper “Fargo”. Directed by the Coen brothers, we follow pregnant, ace police chief Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) as she expertly investigates roadside homicides following the bumbling duo of Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare fleeing the scene of a kidnapping desperate dad Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) hired them to commit. The boys this week explore secrets of the motor trade, examine the structural integrity of doors and we finally find out, whos dog looks like Laurence Olivier? What does any of this have to do with Fargo? Time to pour the beers, it's time for Pints, Camera… Action!

Hello! Welcome to the ninth episode of Pints, Camera... Action!   It's the end of round 2 and back to Mark for his second pick, we stick in 1993 for the endless action movie Demolition Man.  A directorial debut to remember for Marco Brambilla sees Hollywood megastar Sylvester Stallone become Los Angeles cop John Spartan, AKA the Demolition Man.  Spartan is controversially cryogenically frozen because of his over ambitious efforts to bring criminal mastermind Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) to justice.  Phoenix escapes from the Cryo-Prison in the distant future and wreaks havok meaning only one man can save the day.  Assisted by the frustrated and nostalgic cop Lenina Huxley (Sandra Bullock), Spartan discovers that in the future not everything is as perfect as it first seems. Away from the action the boys discuss the usual plethora of hidden gems from the dark recesses of the cutting room floor. Get the beers in folks, it's time for Pints, Camera... Action!

Hello! Welcome to the ninth episode of Pints, Camera... Action! It's back to Nik for his second pick, this time it's the 1993, all action, all star thriller "The Fugitive". Action specialist director Andrew Davis introduces us to the murky world of conspiracies as we follow Dr Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford) as he escapes from custody following a murder charge and is chased across Chicago by seasoned U.S. Marshall Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones). With a murdered wife, a one armed man, an obsessed marshall, the chase is on! The boys true to form managed to record this before all the furore with the monarchy but somehow manage to shoehorn it in, we discuss Harrison Ford's ability to steal a pretty decent wardrobe, overpriced whisky and beastiality within the teenage mutant ninja turtle franchise. Hello! Welcome to the lucky eight episode of Pints, Camera... Action!   It's back to Graham (Billy) for his second pick of the series, the 2000 Japanese cult classic Battle Royale.  Set in a not too distant future, the Japanese government, struggling to maintain order, look for a scapegoat to blame for the crumbling nation.  Battle Royale is born where school children are kidnapped to fight for their lives on an island using whatever they can get their hands on to survive (think Hunger Games but with more blood and violence.)  All the while on the island, love is in the air... but so are bullets, knives, arrows and questionable decisions. Featuring Japanese stars such as Takeshi Kitano (yes... Takeshi from Takeshi's Castle!) and Chiaki Kuriyama (Kill Bill), the bloodshed will not disappoint! All the while the guys check in on Nik's Shark Shack, they discuss the benefits of a sex lighthouse and we all agree that we should really start getting something back when we plug something. Hello! Welcome to the lucky seventh episode of Pints, Camera... Action!  Unfortunately, seven wasn't our lucky number and we've had some technical and personnel issues... regardless it's back to Beattie with the dark 2014 crime thriller, Nightcrawler. This sordid tale sees Jake Gyllenhaal portray Lou Bloom, a mentally disturbed, down on his luck loner who believes he has what it takes and will do whatever it takes to make it in capitalist America.  Rene Russo and Bill Paxton lead up the cast with their lives truly measured in Lou's crosshairs. This week we finally discover if anyone has actually tried Al's fish, does Graham have a valid excuse for missing the podcast, what's happening in Nik's Shark Corner and find out if the Uruk Hai managed to win away from home against Danny Dyer. Hello! Welcome to the sixth episode of Pints, Camera... Action! We've come full circle and it's time for Addy's second pick, the David Fincher adaptation of the Chuck Palahniuk novel, "Fight Club". This mind bending drama stars Edward Norton, Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter, three acting heavyweights that need absolutely no introduction! This week we delve into the depths of the terrible movie barrel one of the boys keeps scraping the bottom of (and why they all involve sharks), Robin Hood and once again explore dreadful accents. This week Mark has chosen the 2010 atmospheric thriller "Shutter Island" starring a glittering cast including: Hollywood all-star Leonardo DiCaprio, everyman oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo and legendary award winning British actor Sir Ben Kingsley. Shutter Island is considered another Martin Scorsese epic which will drag you through an emotional rollercoaster and leave you desperate for answers. Meanwhile... the boys discuss if Michael Bay had an input on set, movie names that we're glad never happened and how much Gosling has grafted for that Oscar! This week Nik has chosen the 1996 action spectacular, "The Rock" starring late Scottish legend Sir Sean Connery as incarcerated SAS soldier John Mason, cult hero Nicolas Cage as Stanley Goodspeed and hugely underrated actor Ed Harris as General Frank Hummel. This action packed extravaganza hauls you around San Francisco with trademark Michael Bay explosions, gratuitous violence and paper thin romance/character back stories that you willingly accept provided Nicolas Cage is still allowed to write his own lines! Hello! Welcome to the third episode of Pints, Camera...Action! This week Graham has chosen the 2005 suspensful thriller, "Hard Candy" starring Academy Award and BAFTA Nomniee Elliot Page (formerly Ellen Page), Insidious star Patrick Wilson and a blink and you'll miss it appearance from Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh. This hard hitting thriller will has some difficult to stomach moments and some difficult to broach subjects. Find out how the guys do this by discussing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnston's cooking, why you should always get a second opinion from your doctor, annoying pronunciations and terrible places to hide things. This week Stephen has chosen the 1986 action comedy "Big Trouble In Little China" starring 80's action superstar Kurt Russell, former Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall and action movie stars Denis Dun and James Hong.
