I have full confidence that Indiana Jones himself, the character played by the legendary Harrison Ford, would definitely search for, find and flip “The Spiritual Switch”. Here's why… Did you ever see the absolutely brilliant movie, “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”? It's the one where Indiana's father, played by the late great Sir Sean Connery, joined Indi on an adventure to find the Holy Grail.

Sixty years, this might have very well been released as THE first franchise blockbuster.  It was the third entry in the James Bond franchise (adapted from a series of best-selling spy novels authored by Ian Fleming) which had been rapidly growing in popularity around the world.  Helmed by then up-and-coming British director Guy Hamilton, it featured the return of James Bond, Agent 007 of the British Secret Service, once again played by the late great Sir Sean Connery.  This time around, he's on a unique mission mostly set within the United States, trying to investigate and eventually take down a plot by the titular Auric Goldfinger (Gert Frobe) to potentially take control of the worldwide gold market....and it just gets crazier from there with henchmen named Odd Job, mysterious women named Pussy Galore, and a spanking new Aston Martin DB5 featuring lots of cool new gadgets. :) Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a Text Message.https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Line Drunk

My friends decided they wanted to go through all of Ian Fleming's James Bond films, so we are starting with Dr. No starring the one and only Sir Sean Connery. He was the first to portray the iconic character and played him in 6 films. I love these films! I even have a James Bond keychain that I got in Washington, D.C. at The Spy Museum that has 3 of his license plates. Dr. No Drinks (https://summerfruitcup.wordpress.com & https://www.bjtonline.com): Vodka Martini “One Medium-Dry Vodka Martini and mixed how you said Sir, and not stirred” Ingredients 3 oz Vodka 1/4 oz Vermouth Lemon Twist for garnish Ice Directions Fill a cocktail glass with ice. Set it aside. Fill your cocktail shaker (or a pint glass) about ¾ with ice. Add three ounces of vodka or simply add vodka to the top of the ice. (Bartenders' trick: fill the glass with water, then pour the water into your ice-filled shaker. This will determine your ”fill line.”) Add vermouth. A quarter-ounce splash should give you a medium-dry martini. Place the top onto your shaker (or your Boston-style shaker over your pint glass) and shake vigorously until frost forms on the shaker. Empty the ice from the glass and strain the martini into it. Garnish with a lemon twist and enjoy. Red Stripe Beer Hailing from Jamaica, where the film is set, there is little wonder that this is what they drink in Pussfellas Bar. Red Stripe was created by Desnoes & Geddes in 1928. Like the Martini Red Stripe is quite light and very refreshing with a warm hoppiness at the end, a little touch of citrus. The James Bond Gin & Tonic Bond ordered a double gin and tonic and one whole green lime. When the drink came he cut the lime in half, dropped the two squeezed halves into the long glass, almost filled the glass with ice cubes and then poured in the tonic. He took the drink out on to the balcony, and sat and looked out across the spectacular view. As ever a delicious drink that is tart but not overly so. I used Bombay Dry Gin (a very classic style of gin) and it works well although some may prefer to use a gin with a higher ABV. Even so few will be disappointed by this Bond Beverage. Drinking Rules (https://thechuggernauts.com): Take a sip whenever... Someone says “James” or “Bond” (Yes this would mean 3 drinks for the phrase “Name's Bond, James Bond”) Any agent's number (or letter) is mentioned. Such as 007, 006, M, Q, etc… Bond uses one of his gadgets given to him by Q (or anyone else at the agency) Someone gets shot Someone falls crashes Bond gets into his over-the-top car Anyone on screen sips alcoholDrink twice if it's a shaken Martini Take a huge chug whenever... There's a sex scene A chase scene starts Finish your drink whenever... Bond is successfully captured. There's a bit of a grey area in some films on if he was successfully captured, so let's just say any time he is taken somewhere at gunpoint, put in handcuffs, or ends up in a cell. As always, drink responsibly. Follow me on Instagram and Twitter @Line_Drunk, subscribe/follow on your favorite streaming service, tell your friends about the podcast and listen together. In our ongoing Bond series, we revisit the OG Bond, Sir Sean Connery, in this second film in the franchise.  We follow Bond this time in the midst of a Cold War espionage plot where he has to take on SPECTRE, the shadowy organization that is out to kill him along with possibly inciting World War III.  This was PEAK Connery and very much a film of its time, very 1960's.  It also co-stars Robert Shaw as the iconic villain Red Grant along with Lotte Lenya as the infamous Rose Klebb. Host: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon#livingforthecinema #moviereviews #livingforthebondseries #jamesbond #007 #sirseanconnery #coldwar #spectre #1960s

Covered in the second part of this two-part special: Connery's burgeoning film career outside of Bond including his many collaborations with Sidney Lumet. His growing dissatisfaction with the James Bond films on 'Thunderball' and the press intrusion through the explosion of the spy film genre, to him quitting the role after 'You Only Live Twice'. It looks at Connery's attempts to forge a career outside of 007, the controversial interview that threatened to derail his career, his divorce, and his return to Bond for 'Diamonds Are Forever'. Finally it explores Connery's incredible film career throughout the 80s, 90s, including his Oscar-winning performance in 'The Untouchables', his return to Bond via a video game, his eventual retirement, and then his sad passing in 2020.
