With Special Guest: Stuart Ashen They didn't mean this episode to be as long as it was. This wasn't meant to be the epic episode it became, honest! They just thought they'd pop into Norwich, record a bit of a walkabout and then meet with guest Stuart Ashen for a quick Gannon's Golden Games. Instead, it became something much bigger than planned. Join Paul and Eli has they take a trip to Norwich, tackling national rail inconveniences, exploring charity shops and going for a wander in the Plantation Gardens. And, oh yes, they need to record with Stuart too! They've got to record a whole episode of CheapShow at Ashen's grotto and tackle a very special Gannon's Golden Games! The amazing Ivenne has sent the podcast a complete, vintage boardgame based on the infamous Japanese TV game show, Takeshi's Castle! They'll learn a little bit about the show's colourful history before diving into the boardgame itself. Will it delight and amuse, or will it annoy and frustrate? How do you even make a game out of an incredibly elaborate TV Show anyway? Sadly, Ashens is about to find out they hard way, and Eli is out to win it by any means necessary. Just thank god we haven't called this episode “Normski's Knob!” You'll find out why… See pics/videos for this episode on our website: https://www.thecheapshow.co.uk/ep-425-the-great-takeshi-s-castle-caper And if you like us, why not support us: www.patreon.com/cheapshow If you want to get involved, email us at thecheapshow@gmail.com And if you want to, follow us on Twitter/X @thecheapshowpod or @paulgannonshow & @elisnoid www.thecheapshow.co.uk Now on Threads: @cheapshowpod Like, Review, Share, Comment... How many of you were inspired to start climbing because of a comic? I'm sure Masato Najakima is not alone, but he is the only person I can say with certainty that that's the case. (And if you're curious, it was Gaku: Minna no Yama (in English, "Peak: Everyone's Mountain")).Anywho, Masato is a leading drytooler in Japan and was one of a contingent from the country who sent “A Line Above the Sky” last year. Masato is a bit of a late bloomer — at 43, he's one of the older athletes on the UIAA World Cup scene — and has made great progress since he started competing in 2016.As one of the elder statesmen in his country, he's trying to grow the sport locally. And despite 5 drytooling gyms in Tokyo — yes, you heard that right — it's not easy… which we dive into in this chat.Along with that, in this episode, we discuss:
Dr. O is back from Japan, and he's got a few things you can pray for. Pray for those who recently went through the training Dr. O led. At Tokyo's local station, Toyosu, there were hardly any signs of people at this time, with only Takeshi and the moonlight illuminating the platform. En: Takeshi's heart was full of both impatience and excitement. "That specific item in that vending machine can only be found here..." In his mind, he could see her soft, radiant smile like a diamond sitting next to that vending machine. En: Takeshi briskly crossed the gap between the train and the platform and headed straight to the cola vending machine. There was only one good luck charm he believed in - her favorite "strawberry milk" colored canned juice. En: However, the vending machine mercilessly displayed a red "sold out" light to Takeshi. His heart plummeted to the ground, engulfed in despair in an instant. 「何か探してるのかい?」En: Seeing him like that, an elderly janitor asked, "Are you looking for something?"Ja: たけしはぎこちなく「苺ミルク」色の缶ジュースを探していると話した。 En: Takeshi awkwardly explained that he was looking for the "strawberry milk" colored canned juice. The janitor smiled and said, "In that case, we have some in the back warehouse. Just wait a moment."Ja: 心からの感謝で清掃員にお辞儀をし、たけしは待つことにした。彼の心に再び希望の光がともった。En: Thanking the janitor from the bottom of his heart with a bow, Takeshi decided to wait. Hope once again lit up in his heart. En: A few minutes later, the janitor returned with the "strawberry milk" colored canned juice. A happy smile spread across Takeshi's face. After the Thanksgiving weekend, Tom is back to the grindstone for another week and is joined by the rest of the crew. In the first hour, Tom catches up with Brittany and Tevin after the long holiday weekend and discusses the Middle East protests that happened in NYC. Hour #2 has Bob Sansevere on the Gophers limping into Bowl Season with a 5-7 record after the loss to the Wisconsin Badgers and how they made it to a bowl game with only 5 wins. Comedian Khadijah Cooper stops by the studio to talk about her upcoming local show "A Family Affair Comedy Show" which is happening December 2nd at Sisyphus Brewing, tickets are still available! In hour #3, we decide which game show where the contestants pretend to get killed by devious traps is the best. Are you old school with Takeshi's Castle? Do you like the westernized Wipe Out? Or are you hip with the latest trends and rooting for Squid Game: The Challenge? Kristyn Burtt weighs in. On the Family, we realize that being a billionaire isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sure, you have everything you could ever want or need and you'll never know the meaning of "scarcity". But you also have the cops hassling you all the time just because of your wealth. Have you ever noticed that every group on earth claims that the cops hate them? Weird, right?
