This week, two of my favorite people in the world join in to talk about Brad Pitt's new film, F1 while they try to convert me into a Formula One racing fan. Ladies and Gentlemen, let's start our engines.
In 2022, director Joseph Kosinski wowed us with amazing sights from inside fighter jets in “Top Gun: Maverick.” In 2025, he's dropping our jaws to the floor with awesome sights from inside F1 race cars in the summer blockbuster “F1” starring Brad Pitt. PItt plays veteran driver Sonny Hayes who is asked by his friend, who owns a team, to help them win and maybe mentor their young driver too. Hayes soon finds that today's racing is fraught with betrayal, nasty media, corrupt F1 officials and that's before he gets in the missile with tires going 200+ mph. Is it worth finding out how it all goes down at the theater? Check out this episode to find out. “F1” also stars Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Damson Idris, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, Sarah Niles, Will Merrick and Callie Cooke.Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

This week on Totally 80s and 90s Recall, Dave, Rob, and Kurt are firing up the engines and diving into Days of Thunder (1990), the slick, high-speed NASCAR drama that brought Top Gun-style adrenaline to the racetrack. Directed by Tony Scott and produced by the powerhouse duo of Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, the film stars Tom Cruise as Cole Trickle, a fearless but raw driver trying to prove himself on the NASCAR circuit. Backed by veteran crew chief Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall) and team owner Tim Daland (Randy Quaid), Cole navigates the fierce world of stock car racing, intense rivalries, and a life-changing crash that forces him to confront his own limitations. Nicole Kidman also makes her debut as Dr. Claire Lewicki, a neurosurgeon who becomes both Cole's caretaker and love interest. In their breakdown of the film, the guys rev up the nostalgia by exploring the movie's iconic race scenes, killer Hans Zimmer score, and the romance that sparked between Cruise and Kidman's characters. With plenty of behind-the-scenes trivia, quotable lines ("Rubbin', son, is racin'"), and some good old-fashioned '90s movie magic, Dave, Rob, and Kurt put the pedal to the metal in revisiting this cult favorite.

You play Cruise's Cole Trickle character (his name, like many of the others, is slightly different to that of a real NASCAR racer of the day) against your rivals on 8 tracks, based on real-life counterparts. The races are all on ovals, although the exact lengths, corner types and gradients are varied. This means that the ideal racing line on one track can put you into the wall on another. Qualifying is incorporated alongside the races themselves.Support NEStalgia directly by becoming a member of our Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/Nestalgia Members at the $5 and above level get access to our brand new show NEStalgia Bytes. As we continue to go down the path of the sports series retrospective. We dive into the world of racing with this little gem Days of Thunder. Now this is your 90's dad movie when you were growing up. The movie smells of Miller Lite and cigarettes and we love it for that. The plot looses itself half way through but that is ok but they go fast. Full video: Trump's Days Of Thunder (2-16-25), https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iPY94nU4Nw Politico: Trump's Anti-DEI Edicts Just Scared a Big Sponsor Away From a Major Pride Event, https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2025/02/14/booz-allen-worldpride-sponsor-00204059 Booz Allen Hamilton, the mammoth Beltway federal contractor, has long been a supporter of LGBTQ+ causes. “For two decades and counting, we've dedicated ourselves to the advancement of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, queer, and questioning employees,” a page on the firm's site declared in 2024. So when Washington first won the right to host one of the world's biggest gay festivals, it was only natural that Booz Allen signed on to underwrite the event known as WorldPride 2025. But that was before the election. This week, with WorldPride projected to draw three million visitors in just a few months, Booz Allen abruptly withdrew as a sponsor — apparently worried that merely supporting a global gay festival would put it on the wrong side of its dominant customer: President Donald Trump's federal government. “They have a lot of federal contracts,” said Ryan Bos, the organizer of WorldPride, who explained that Booz Allen had indicated that sponsoring WorldPride could put it out of compliance with Trump's executive order forbidding diversity, equity and inclusion rules in federal contracting. “They made the decision that to protect their business, they did not want to risk the backlash.” https://odysee.com/@LukeFordLive, https://lbry.tv/@LukeFord, https://rumble.com/lukeford https://dlive.tv/lukefordlivestreams Superchat: https://entropystream.live/app/lukefordlive Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/lukeford/ Soundcloud MP3s: https://soundcloud.com/luke-ford-666431593 Code of Conduct: https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=125692 https://www.patreon.com/lukeford http://lukeford.net Email me: lukeisback@gmail.com or DM me on Twitter.com/lukeford, Best videos: https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=143746 Support the show | https://www.streamlabs.com/lukeford, https://patreon.com/lukeford, https://PayPal.Me/lukeisback Facebook: http://facebook.com/lukecford Feel free to clip my videos. Just like Cole Trickle, we're more afraid of being nothing than we are of being hurt. Somehow....that makes this re-run make a lot more sense. Enjoy! Summary: The team that brought you Top Gun, brings you Top Car - better known as Days of Thunder. Both movies feature a wildly talented but undisciplined rebel who is as awesome with driving machinery as he is with the ladies. Both feature a helmet-less motorcycle riding Tom Cruise as the lead who goes through massive success riding his own ego….until his butt can't cash them when he gets hurt - in one case just mentally, and in the other physically. Both leave him scared to re-engage at the thing he does best...until he basically resolves it in about 20 seconds by realizing….he'd damn well better or his friends were going to die in one case, and in the other they'd just be super bummed they lost the race...and move on with life. Whatever. Both feature a wise father figure Tom Cruise at first rejects the authority of, then later craves the leadership and approval from. Both have Val Kilmer as Iceman playing the uber talented and more successful nemesis turned friend….except in Days of Thunder it's Michael Rooker playing Rowdy Burns, both have an amazing failure on the first try to woo the leading lady, and both have a dead goose scene...except in days of thunder it was just a bird run over by a rental car. This is the most perfect racing movie of all however, and even today still is adored by fans - and NASCAR drivers - including the current reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion who goes by the name of Rowdy Busch...and runs number 51 on his own race cars outside of the Cup Series. This is the movie that proves to get the girls, you gotta go fast, and if you're from California you're not really a yankee...you're not really from anywhere. What do a marketer and a racecar driver have in common? You're about to find out. One thing we can say is that going as fast as you can leads to burnout. That's one of the things we're talking about in this episode. We're taking marketing lessons from the 1990 Tom Cruise flick Days of Thunder with the help of our special guest, Director of Content Marketing at Fictiv, Ricky Frohnerath.Together, we talk about being strategic instead of fast, speaking the same language as your team, and building contingency plans in case your campaigns don't go as expected.About our guest, Ricky FrohnerathRicky Frohnerath is Director of Content Marketing for San Francisco-based Fictiv, leading comprehensive content strategy and execution for all marketing campaigns, across all funnel stages and audiences. He specializes in building and managing cross-functional marketing teams for manufacturing and technology organizations. He's the A proponent of agile marketing methodology, servant leadership, self-management principles, and empowerment, his focus is on people first, then process, and then technology. A longtime resident of the Tampa Bay area, his education includes the Pinellas County Center for the Arts, St. Petersburg College, and the University of South Florida. Ricky is an amateur racing driver and avid enthusiast of electric vehicles, who believes in the power of uniting personal and professional values to drive positive change. Thus, he's passionate about accelerating sustainability by sparking and sharing conversations with leaders in electrification, motorsport, and industry. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Days of Thunder:Be strategic, not fast. If you try to go as fast as you can, you burn out or make mistakes. Slowing down just a bit to make sure your work is high quality and highly effective actually means you'll work faster in the end. In Days of Thunder, Ricky says that Cole Trickle's “quest is to find ultimate speed. He's actually over driving the tires and he's driving faster than [his competitors] can. And what happens when you're over driving the tires is that they get greasy and they start to degrade faster. So this is a problem because if you destroy your tires, then you have to come into the pits and that takes time.” So instead Cole learns to drive more efficiently by speeding up or slowing down strategically based on his coach's advice. So slow down to work more efficiently and effectively.Speak the same language as your team. Communication becomes so much more efficient and effective when you share shorthand and jargon. Ricky says, “When you're on a team, you need to be speaking the same language. You need to have a shared lexicon so that there is this transmission of understanding. You need to know what's working, you need to know what's not working, and you need to know what you're talking about.”Build in wiggle room in case things don't go right. If you hit a bump in the road, giving yourself a little extra time in the planning process for your campaign takes the pressure off. Ricky says, “Things are not going to go according to plan. You need to build in some agility and the ability to kind of compensate when it comes time to actually execute.” So give yourself room to breathe with your next campaign timeline. That way, you can correct any issues without stressing over deadlines. In Days of Thunder, it's like when they plan, design and build Cole Trickle's car and then it gets destroyed in an early race and they have to figure out how to pivot.Quotes*”I think it's fairly common for there to be conflict, especially between marketing and sales. One of the ways that you can overcome this is by having a shared language. Understand and adopt the KPIs that the sales team are going after. So, for example, one area where marketing and sales become misaligned is marketing likes to talk about big metrics, like impressions, eyeballs, even things like conversions. But these are KPIs that really don't translate well into the sales world. Like they are interested in leads and they're keeping an eye on sales and revenue and things like that. So make those metrics, your metrics and understand how the marketing activities roll into those KPIs. It's not to say that you don't keep track of impressions and a lot of other things that kind of get labeled as vanity metrics, but understand how you go from an impression down into revenue.”*”If you're overdriving the tires, you're effectively leading to burnout. I think the same is true when we think about high performance teams. The best that somebody can perform is at the limit of their abilities. There is no 110%. You can only do the best that you can at the peak of your ability. You can't give that extra 10%. So forcing you to do that is actually going to have a detrimental effect. So I think that's super important to keep in mind for marketing teams.”*”Marketers in general just need to have a very good understanding of who you're connecting with, who you're marketing to. And I think in general we do a pretty good job of that. I think that authenticity is so important for a very targeted audience and especially one that is extremely cognizant of inauthenticity.”Time Stamps[0:55] Meet Ricky Frohnerath, Director of Content Marketing at Fictiv[7:05] Behind the Scenes of Days of Thunder[12:32] Passion Projects and Marketing Lessons[21:35] The Story of Days of Thunder[23:44] Marketing Lessons from Days of Thunder[25:33] Planning and Agility in Marketing[28:40] Communication and Trust in Teams[32:54] Burnout and High PerformanceLinksConnect with Ricky on LinkedInLearn more about FictivAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company.
