The entertainment industry and its TV and film writers can't get on the same page. For the first time in over a decade, the Writers Guild of America is on strike. Shows like Saturday Night Live have already stopped production, with more to come as the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers try to reach a labor agreement. As networks and film studios continue make record-high profits, writers are fighting for livable wages and fair compensation in the streaming era. And for the Black writers and the community at large, there's much more at stake. For decades, Black writers were shut out of writers' rooms, unable to tell their own stories. As the industry changed, these scribes were only relegated to write comedy. Today, just a handful have made it to the top of the television hierarchy as showrunners. Anthony Sparks, a 20-year industry veteran told Trymaine Lee that for him, the strike is about making sure writing can continue to be a viable career path for people like him. Because if the industry doesn't change, Black writers could get squeezed out, and Black audiences risk losing representation, or worse – having outsiders control it.Follow and share the show on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, using the handle @intoamericapod.Thoughts? In the Peacock documentary, Handle With Care, British actor Jimmy Akingbola shares his personal experience of growing up in London's foster care system. His father disowned him as a baby. The actor's mother, who suffered from schizophrenia, abandoned him and left him inside an office building when he was 2 years old. Akingbola then found himself in foster care and was raised by a white family for over a decade; but as a kid, he felt ashamed and embarrassed to be seen with them while in public. Join us as I SEE U host Eddie Robinson chats unguarded with acclaimed actor, Jimmy Akingbola. The star of the reimagined, serialized hit drama, BEL-AIR, reminisces about the joys and challenges of growing up with the Crowe family while wondering if the love he possessed for his biological siblings felt mutual. Akingbola also offers up insight into the importance of understanding cultural identity and embracing one's own unique gifts and talents, as performing runs deep in his family. His older brother, Sola Akingbola, is a percussionist for the Grammy-award winning band, Jamiroquai; and his niece, Fola Evans-Akingbola, is a British actress and model who plays a Secret Service agent in the acclaimed Netflix series, The Night Agent.

EPISODE 188: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: All the details are leaked to The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. Rupert Murdoch did TOO fire Tucker Carlson personally, just weeks after meeting with him. Murdoch was furious at Carlson calling President Zelensky a "Ukrainian Pimp" and even joined a Fox editorial meeting to complain, and furious that Carlson had called a NewsCorp exec (presumably communications mogul Irena Briganti) a C-U-Later. Worse still, the C-word insult appeared in the Dominion lawsuit discovery product. Fox attorneys managed to get it redacted, told Carlson. But he replied he didn't WANT it redacted: he wanted everybody to know he'd said it. And the Fox Board and some executives didn't know until the day before the Dominion trial was to begin - another reason Fox settled. Bottom lines: Fox is clearly revealing everything it has in its Carlson closet in hopes of making him eternally unemployable. Oh, and about 25 days ago Murdoch had dinner at his home in Bel-Air with his fiancee and his top Fox anchor and before the month was over HE HAD FIRED THEM BOTH. B-Block (19:33) IN SPORTS: Two weeks ago he tied the record for the longest hitting streak for any player 20 or younger. Today's he's in the minors. And it's the anniversary of Harry Chili, the guy who was traded for "A Player To Be Named Later" and then the "Player To Be Named Later." Except it never happened; it's just an urban legend (24:33) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Ronna McDaniel lies about Trump and debates; Ron Johnson may actually have a head made of cheese: he suggests Wisconsin will be a safer place to live after catastrophic climate change; and the Vanity Blue Checkmark guy on twitter trying to incite genocide against Trans people and allies. C-Block (30:01) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: 90 years ago this month the most humble superstar I ever met, was born. Why I still miss my friend Elizabeth Montgomery and the extraordinary and hilarious advice she gave me within minutes of the day we met.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Remastered episode this week, but still a super fun one. We want to dedicate the episode to Montraze Slater and celebrate Montraze Slater Day in Mobile. We come out of the gate with hot takes and keep it up the entire show. Dr Dre's half time show was top five. We break down the other top halftime shows. While we are on the NFL we discuss Brian Flores landing an assistant coach position while he is suing the league. We dig deep into the Fresh Prince of Bel Air reboot "Bel Air." We continue the discussion as we get into the questions. Razi wants to know what other 90's sitcoms needs a reboot and we talk about how the reboot can look. We have a million dollar idea so don't steal it. Buff follows up asking whether we really care about likes on social media and should they be removed? That leads us to Ferg's question. He wants to discuss one of our Facebook posts that asked, "If men will smash anything, then why do women keep getting surgeries?" We close with with recognizing the Kim Potter sentencing, calling out the democrats and their supporters, and a moment of silence as we mourn the loss of Gayle McCoy. In March of 2019, Morgan Cooper dropped a video on YouTube that quickly went viral. It was a short film that he made as a passion project, after he was struck with a flash of inspiration: What if the 90's classic The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air were updated for the 21st century? Three years later, Bel-Air premiered on Peacock to record-breaking numbers, with Cooper as director and executive producer. The season two finale drops on Peacock on April 27th, and the show was recently renewed for a third season. For Into America, host Trymaine Lee spoke with Morgan Cooper about Bel-Air, the creative decisions he's making with the show, and his lightning quick rise in Hollywood. Trymaine also spoke with actress Cassandra Freeman, who plays Aunt Viv in the new show, as well as hip hop icon DJ Jazzy Jeff, who played Jazz on the original Fresh Prince, and who hosted Bel-Air: The Official Podcast.
