Happy Star Wars Day! To celebrate, hosts Eddie and Intern Manager Amy are diving deep into the emotionally charged and pivotal conclusion of the prequel trilogy: "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith," which fittingly turns 20 this month! Join the duo as they explore how this often-dark chapter dramatically shaped the Star Wars saga and arguably ushered in a new generation of fans. As longtime enthusiasts, Eddie and Amy will reflect on how their perspectives on the film have evolved since its initial release two decades ago, contrasting their first impressions with more recent viewings informed by their own life experiences. They'll also delve into the profound impact of Dave Filoni's animated storytelling – from The Clone Wars through its many follow-ups – and how the expanded lore and character development he's introduced have enriched their understanding and appreciation of "Revenge of the Sith" and the fall of Anakin Skywalker. From the tragic arc of the Chosen One to the birth of the Rebellion, join Eddie and Amy for a thoughtful and nostalgic Star Wars Day discussion that bridges the gap between initial reactions and the deeper understanding forged by years of fandom and Filoni's masterful contributions. May the 4th be with you!

No 100 dudes aren't beating 1 Gorilla, you're wild for thinking otherwise. Anyway, did you get your hands on a Switch 2 preorder? Cause if you did you may have avoided the chaos. EA announced a big shakeup, cancelled games, and is bringing paid season pass to FC 25. Plus what is Call of Duty's obsession with the ganja? Hollywood is not being saved by Netflix, sequels abound, and some superhero movies lose their capes, plus will The Rock win with A24?

Met with ambivalence by most, genuine revulsion by others upon its initial release in the summer of 1999, the film (and the prequel trilogy more broadly) have seen a continued reappraisal, especially in the era of so many soulless Disney-era Star Wars productions. The Phantom Menace is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary with a recent limited re-release on IMAX screens. On this episode, we make a case for the film not just as comparatively good, but a genuinely excellent entry in the Star Wars canon. We discuss the film's place within the the decade-spanning saga as well as its position within the film landscape of the era - how it pushed the boundaries of digital effects integration, and signaled (in non-alarmist terms) an evolving style of blockbuster filmmaking. Then, we talk about the film's narrative highs and lows, and share our thoughts on the critical points of 25 years of criticism: Midi-chlorians, Jar Jar Binks, Jake Lloyd, Watto and more. Finally, we praise the film's many incredible formal qualities - its relationship to Lucas's early student films visual experiements, The Phantom Menace's debt to classic cinema greats like Kurosawa and Douglas Sirk, and the brilliance of the film's multi-phase finale, cross-cutting between four different theaters of action seamlessly.Follow Neil Bahadur on Twitter and LetterboxdWatch 'The Beginning: Making Start Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace'Watch '1:42:08 To Qualify', George Lucas's 1966 short film....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish.

This week we get in our time capsule and travel back to 1999 to discuss Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace! Released 16 years after the conclusion of the original trilogy, this epic space opera kicks off the Skywalker Saga, following a Jedi Master and his apprentice as they work to save the planet of Naboo from the Trade Federation, who are being manipulated by an eerily familiar dark figure. Starring Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Jake Lloyd, Ian McDiarmid, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Pernilla August, and Frank Oz, this film grossed a whopping $924 million in it's initial theatrical run... But Is Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace Good? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Hey and welcome back to Star Wars Theory, today we're going to cover this special part of The Revenge of the Sith bonus DVD that covers the stunts and BTS with George Lucas, Nick Gillard, Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Samuel L Jackson, Ian McDiarmid and more. Something I found very fun to discuss here was the snippet regarding Anakin's power level at the end of the film. Back in the 80's, George Lucas (reference The Making of Return of the Jedi/ESB/ANH books) mentioned how Luke was a level 2, Vader a 4, Obi-Wan a 6 and the Emperor an 8 (or something like that) in terms of power. So I feel that now we can a little insight on what Anakin's level would be on that scale that George Lucas made up. At the very least, it's pretty fun to discuss. Learn more about your ad choices. On the season 14 premiere of We Hate Movies, VHS Trailer Game champion, Eric Szyszka demands the guys go back and re-do an episode on the much maligned (and unfairly so?) prequel that started it all, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace! In the D23 footage that we got, we heard Sidious, however, it wasn't Ian McDiarmid, at least I don't think. Why? Also, why did Lucasfilm use a Sideshow Hot Toys statue of Sidious/Palpatine? Two really fun episodes! I enjoyed these ones particularly because of the senate dealings which really dived into the transition of the stormtrooper army from the clones. I love how we got Rex and Palpatine returning in these. We enter the senate and Rampart and Chuchi go head to head. She makes a massive claim that he was responsible for diverting Kaminoan funding outside of cloning without senate approval. The crowd makes noise as Rampart tries to move on from the question as she grills him. She then goes for it and accuses him of destroying Tipoca City himself. She's voted out of the senate for such a claim until the boys hand Omega the files, who hands it to Bail, who hands it to Senator Chuchi. They play the recording for all to see, and it's the Venators destroying Tipoca City. The jig is up, and I couldn't believe they actually showed this, I thought it'd be all over for the empire, until the floor opens up just as it did when yoda fought palpatine, and we see Palpatine in his pod, rising, Mas Amedda next to him. Ian McDiarmid voicing Palptine as he should, brilliantly twists the scenario into his favour. They arrest Rampart, and blame him for being rogue. He thanks Chuchi for exposing a rogue element in the empire's ranks. Palpatine says he'll be punished, however, he didn't act alone. He blames the clones, too, and asks the senate if they really trust such a callous maneuver by such beings. He believes this legislation is their future, and that the imperial storm troopers will protect everyone from such things ever happening again. Brilliantly he had a backup plan should he be exposed, and the twisted everything to his advantage. The fate of all clones are now doomed from this. Either way, they were doomed. Forty years ago, we saw the release of this THIRD movie of the original Star Wars trilogy - this was the highly anticipated follow-up to what many (myself included) consider to be THE best Star Wars film ever, Empire Strikes Back. It featured the return of several beloved characters and the resolution of a story which was last concluded with quite a surprising cliffhanger at the end of the previous episode. So...did it live up to the hype....and how does it hold up?Let's find out as we delve into this sequel directed by Richard Marquand and with the returning cast of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, and several others....PLUS the introduction of Ian McDiarmid who plays Emperor Palpatine.
