In this episode of The Decision Reel, it's just the dynamic duo — Wally and Steve — diving headfirst into the wild, weird, and wonderfully '90s world of Demolition Man!
Demolition Man is a 1993 American science fiction action film directed by Marco Brambilla in his directorial debut. It stars Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, Denis Leary, Bill Cobbs, and Nigel Hawthorne. Stallone is John Spartan, a risk-taking police officer who has a reputation for causing destruction while carrying out his work. After a failed attempt to rescue hostages from evil crime lord Simon Phoenix (Snipes), they are both sentenced to be cryogenically frozen in 1996. Phoenix is thawed for a parole hearing in 2032, but escapes. Society has changed and all violent crime has seemingly been eliminated. Unable to deal with a criminal as dangerous as Phoenix, the authorities awaken Spartan to help capture him again. The story makes allusions to many other works including Aldous Huxley's 1932 dystopian novel Brave New World and H. G. Wells's The Sleeper Awakes.

Directed by Marco Brambilla, the film stars Sylvester Stallone as a rugged cop, John Spartan, who is thawed out of cryogenic freeze to apprehend a criminal mastermind, played by Wesley Snipes, in a futuristic society where crime is virtually nonexistent. Nathan and Ryan discuss the film's imaginative portrayal of a sanitized future, its satirical take on societal norms, and the dynamic chemistry between Stallone and Snipes. They delve into the film's blend of explosive action and lighthearted humor, as well as its commentary on the contrasts between the past and the future. Join them as they navigate the entertaining chaos of "Demolition Man."
On this episode, the Retro Movie Geek crew is, once again, joined by Mike "The Neighbor" Kahwaty (see more from Mike here or here), and they're geeking out over Demolition Man (1993) and Taco Bell or Pizza Hut the cast an emasculated policeforce over-the-top characters and much, much more! Synopsis: Sgt. John Spartan doesn't fight crime. He rips into it like a junkyard dog. He's the Demolition Man... and he's the future's only hope. Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes go at it amid a dazzling cyber-future in this fierce and funny action blast from producer Joel Silver. The year is 2032 and archcriminal Simon Phoenix has emerged from a 35-year deep freeze in CryoPrison to find a serene, violence-free Southern California ready for the taking. Ill-equipped to deal with Phoenix's psychopathic 1990s style, city officials decide they need an old-fashioned cop to fight old-fashioned crime. They need Spartan, currently serving time in CryoPrison because of his last encounter with Phoenix. After they thaw him out, the excitement heats up. Spartan may be suddenly out of his element – but he's never out of the action. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: LISTENER FEEDBACK: Leave us your voicemail feedback at (484) 577-3876. In this week's episode of Unclear and Present Danger, Jamelle and John watch the satirical sci-fi action thriller “Demolition Man,” starring Sylvester Stallone as “John Spartan,” a Los Angeles city police officer who is cryogenically frozen as punishment for a failed rescue attempt; Wesley Snipes as “Simon Phoenix,” his primary antagonist; Sandra Bullock as a cop in the sterile, Brave New World-esque future society in which the film takes place; and Nigel Hawthorne as the leader of that future society. In addition to their usual look at the headlines and news of the day, Jamelle and John discuss “Demolition Man” as one of the quintessentially conservative blockbusters of the 1990s, with a critique of liberalism as both permissive — and thus prone to disorder — and highly restrictive, and thus antagonistic to traditional ideas of manhood and masculinity. They also look at what the movie says about the role of violence in society, and try to place the film within the “end of history” context of the immediate post-Cold War period.Episodes come out every two weeks, so we'll see you then with an episode on “The Net,” starring Sandra Bullock.“The Net” is available to rent on iTunes and Amazon.Connor Lynch produced this episode. Buďte dobří a užijte si výlet do (dnes již nepříliš vzdálené) budoucnosti s Johnem Spartanem. Třicet let po premiéře přinášíme pohled do zákulisí příprav i vzniku, castingová škatulata, nejlepší okamžiky, ale i scény, co skončily na podlaze střižny a designová rozhodnutí, která z filmu dělají nadčasovou, i když pořád ještě dost obávanou vizi budoucnosti. “I'm wearing more kimonos now than I was in 1993” The panel of peril have convened once again to discuss the dystopian sci fi, action film Demolition Man (1993). We then try to improve upon the villain's diabolical plan for the honour of choosing next week's film and hosting the pod. Directed by Marco Brambilla and starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock and Sir Nigel Hawthorne (!), they certainly don't make them like this anymore. See the trailer here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B5v6QZ5R3g ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** Obsessive San Angeles mayor Dr Raymond Cocteau thaws out history's most dangerous cryogenically frozen super-criminal and brainwashes him into hunting the charismatic leader of an underground group of outlawed nonconformists. Only one man can possibly stop him: the also cryogenically frozen John Spartan. But will he succeed in his mission to demolish them? Just what did the panel make of this one? How on Earth can they improve upon the villain's dastardly scheme? And who the devil will be victorious in this week's competition?
Ana and Dan sit down for a nice meal at Taco Bell and discuss the much-quoted but less seen Sandy Bullock vehicle. Wow, it's dark! How did Dr. Cocteau come to power? Who was John Spartan's lawyer and can I get his number? Do you really want to know what the seashells are for? There is a surprisingly reactionary take on capitalism in this movie. Demolition Man is the episode we've all been waiting for! Join the modern day culture war led by Simon Phoenix and John Spartan. Wesley Snipes and Sly are both at the top of their game in this futuristic speculative sci-fi masterpiece. Sandra Bullock is amazing in it as the quirky goofball side character. The cast is totally stellar. Directed by Marko Brambillia, an interesting conceptual artist and futurist, this movie holds up in interesting ways and allows us to examine the way that these decades old American culture wars have played out to present day 2022. Plus this movie is totally Pantheon so the brothers are really delightfully giddy to discuss this one. Enjoy!

Katie and Bridget get unfrozen from their cryo-prison sentence to re-watch the movie: Demolition Man! It's a futuristic, sci-fi movie that in a kind of scary way - got a lot of things right about the future. Follow along as we meet the Demolition Man himself, John Spartan (who never works without his signature beret), as he is unfrozen in the future to try and stop his also now unfrozen arch enemy: Simon Phoenix! This future is full of lame cops and even lamer rules that really just make Katie and Bridget want to go live underground with Denis Leary! Released in 1993 (the best year for movies), this features a star-studded cast including: Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, and Denis Leary!

In 1996 Los Angeles, psychopathic criminal Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) has taken 30 hostages inside an abandoned building and it is up to police sergeant John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) to save the day. But before Spartan can get his man, Phoenix detonates the building, presumably killing the hostages. Phoenix is captured, but at the same time, Spartan is charged with manslaughter. Both are sentenced to an experimental new form of rehabilitation: cryogenically frozen while being exposed to subliminal messages. Decades later, with help from an unknown source, Phoenix is unthawed, breaks out of prison, and begins to run amok. The newly formed city, now known as San Angeles, is strikingly different and is a society in which pacifism and docility is strictly enforced, so much so that the police now have zero experience with violent criminals. The San Angeles police chief approves the unthawing of John Spartan with the orders to stop Phoenix once and for all. Demolition Man isn't a great, or even good movie, but the script contains some eliminates of thought with its social commentary. Snipes' outlandishly played Phoenix character is a scene stealer. The film isn't all kicks and punches, though, as its witty one-liners have its tongue planted firmly in its cheek. Release Year: 1993Genre: ActionStarring: Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, and Sandra Bullock.TrailerSummary: A police officer is brought out of suspended animation in prison to pursue an old ultra-violent nemesis who is loose in a non-violent future society. When the pandemic hit in 2020, the Internet was suddenly alight with memes making the unlikely claim that the sci-fi shoot'-‘em-up Demolition Man (1993) had somehow managed to predict the future: We had entered a time of no touching, where police were called upon to be less violent, where it was rebellious act to party. In this episode, we take a look at these notions and others - and attempt to figure out the curious politics of Demolition Man.Demolition Man is a 1993 American science fiction action film directed by Marco Brambilla in his directorial debut. It stars Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock, and Nigel Hawthorne. Stallone is John Spartan, a risk-taking police officer, who has a reputation for causing destruction while carrying out his work. After a failed attempt to rescue hostages from evil crime lord Simon Phoenix (Snipes), they are both sentenced to be cryogenically frozen in 1996. Phoenix is thawed for a parole hearing in 2032, but escapes. Society has changed and all crime has seemingly been eliminated. Unable to deal with a criminal as dangerous as Phoenix, the authorities awaken Spartan to help capture him again. Hello! Welcome to the ninth episode of Pints, Camera... Action! It's the end of round 2 and back to Mark for his second pick, we stick in 1993 for the endless action movie Demolition Man. A directorial debut to remember for Marco Brambilla sees Hollywood megastar Sylvester Stallone become Los Angeles cop John Spartan, AKA the Demolition Man. Spartan is controversially cryogenically frozen because of his over ambitious efforts to bring criminal mastermind Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) to justice. Phoenix escapes from the Cryo-Prison in the distant future and wreaks havok meaning only one man can save the day. Assisted by the frustrated and nostalgic cop Lenina Huxley (Sandra Bullock), Spartan discovers that in the future not everything is as perfect as it first seems. Away from the action the boys discuss the usual plethora of hidden gems from the dark recesses of the cutting room floor. Get the beers in folks, it's time for Pints, Camera... Action!

In 1993 Marco Brambilla brought us a story of utopia, a story of dystopia, and a story of an imaginary wonderland where Taco Bell doesn’t send you to abdominal distress, Demolition Man. Demolition Man is the tale of two men; John Spartan and the epically psychotic Simon Phoenix played by Sly Stallone and Wesley Snipes respectively. In 1996, Phoenix cuts his nose off to spite his face and creates a scenario to entrap Spartan for the death of 40 hostages while also imprisoning himself. They are both sentenced to a cryo-facility and 36 years later, Phoenix is thawed to assist with dispatching a terrorist threat. Spartan is then thawed to dispatch Phoenix when he goes on a crazy killing spree, which no one ever saw as a possibility... Demolition Man also stars the gorgeous Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, and even a little snippet of Jack Black if you look close enough. It was made for $57 million and brought in a massive box office of $159 million, but does it hold up? Listen in as Jon, Colin, and Brent debate bad planning, what that towel was for, and try to determine if this flick holds up or if it should just be demolished, man.

Welcome back! Today we talk about the Sylvester Stallone classic? Demolition man! What is a better way to escape horror movies for a few minutes? And because it is an action movie there is really not much to the story so we spend most of our time talking about the environment and the world around John Spartan and less about the lack of character development and cheesy jokes and lots of property damage. We get sidetracked a ton in this one and try a new format that allows more nitpicking and less about the story, let us know what you think for any one off movies. Jahrhundert – Dennis Rodman. Nein sorry, Simon Phoenix.
Jedi is back, using his force to compel you to pull ugly bassfaces and throw your drink with an EP that doesn't hold back. Its not the kindest on the ears but then again it's not supposed to be, it's a monograph in hard-hitting sonics and dastardly tones. 'John Spartan' is undergirded by a booming snare drum and percussive clarity, but the action happens in the steadily melodic but still raucous bassline, a pitched-up monstrosity of dancefloor proportions. The others feature more big synths, but with emphasis instead on forward movement and serene rapidity - top release. On the surface it seems like your typical shoot-’em-up 90s action flick starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes, but there’s much more to it than that. Demolition Man is a witty social satire, laced with Orwellian elements and blatant homages to Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, a denouncement of the PC culture nanny state and the lack of true humanity in the placid, rose colored Utopia many people crave. Demolition Man has aged well, perhaps to well. The fact that tho film is as relevant as it is almost 26 years after its release is actually frightening to me. Lenina Huxley, played by Sandra Bullock is a citizen of San Angeles in the year 2032. A soft, calm, tranquil society that is free of violence and crime, where harsh language and physical touch has been outlawed, especially real life intercourse. Lenina surrounds herself with relics of the 90s, a time when humans could be, well, human. Sure there was violence, crime and offensive language in the 90s but people could express themselves and not worry about offending anybody. People could enjoy many of their vices, as long as nobody else was getting hurt, they could take risks, have sex, laugh at vulgar jokes and watch R rated films. Of course, the real life 90s weren’t exactly perfect, but it was definitely a smorgasbord of culture compared to Lenina Huxley’s bland new world. One could argue even better than real life 2019. Of course, in this alternate universe of Demolition Man, a great Earthquake of 2010 precipitates a major paradigm shift in their culture. While the cultural change hasn’t been as dramatic, you can see a parallel in the change of culture in Lenina’s world to the shift we experienced in the 9/11 terror attacks, and this is portrayed in a film that was released 8 years before that event happened. I don’t think our world is in danger of becoming as ridiculously overbearing and neutered as Demolition Man’s version of 2032, but we aren’t as far off as I’d like. Demolition Man’s greatness comes in the form of two machismo maniacs and rivals from the 90s named John Spartan and Simon Phoenix, who are thrust into a docile daycare society after being unthawed from cryogenic freezing. These two turn San Angeles upside down as they settle scores with hand to hand combat, car chases, explosions, guns and bad one liners, as two muscle bound meatheads from a bygone era.
Remember when the greatest threat to Western Civilization was political correctness? We do. We dive into one and a half stone cold classics of 90s reactionary GenXerism - PCU and Demolition Man - to figure out why a decent, law-abiding rabble-rouser can't get a goddamn hamburger.
Matt & Eric flap their traps about the historic announcement of the all-women's Evolution PPV, Elias' new EP, the awesome Aleister Black vs. Tommaso Ciampa match from NXT, Miz & Mrs on USA, and the time John Spartan was released from cryo-prison to track down his old enemy Simon Phoenix. Oh, and the fancy, delicious deconstruction of Taco Bell.
It is the year 2032, and Taco Bell has won the fast food wars, but how?!? In 1996, psychopathic career criminal Simon Phoenix kidnaps a number of hostages, and takes refuge with his gang in an abandoned building. LAPD Sgt. John Spartan uses a thermal scan of the building; finding no trace of the hostages, he leads an unauthorized assault to capture Phoenix. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tony-henderson7/support

There's nothing better than Wesley Snipes in pure martial arts action form and we get just that with this episode's movie: Demolition Man. In 1993 we were blessed with this movie featuring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes where a police officer named John Spartan is brought out of suspended animation prison in the future to pursue an old ultra-violent nemesis, Simon Phoenix, who is loose in a non-violent future society. Demolition Man raises many questions such as how the three seashells are used, who the Demolition Man really is, and how there is a museum of historical fully-functional weapons at Phoenix' disposal. What was up with Wesley Snipes' hair? Listen in and find out how Dan felt about his hair and how he would fair in the future coming out of suspended animation. Spoilers... it has to do with plants. So join your hosts, Dan and Tyler, and take a listen. This one is a fun one. Prepare for our next episode where we will be watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie! We finally get around to watching Demolition Man, a film that we have been planning to do for years, and that means it is time to talk a knitting Sylvester Stallone, an absolutely peppy Sandra ...
Simon says listen! This week we drop a bonus episode for you guys instead of something from our regular programming, however hopefully for a good reason you’ll soon find out.We watch and take a look back at 1993s Demolition Man starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, and Sandra Bullock. Sly stars as John Spartan who after the arrest of notorious criminal Simon Phoenix it’s revealed that innocent bystanders were killed and Spartan is to blame. They freeze him in a cryogenics prison as punishment, but when Phoenix escapes from cryogen stasis after a parole hearing the San Angeles Police Department thaws out the detective as their only hope to catch the mad man.The movie is nostalgic in its own right for the simple fact of being an over the top action movie with so many wild one liners, as well as action from one of the most familiar faces of the genre. For being a futuristic movie from the early 90s it’s definitely worthy of a watch to get your fill of testosterone fueled action. So sit back and turn on your favorite wall to wall mini tunes radio station, maybe have a rat burger, maybe some high tech sex, and be well.

Celebrity interactions, hilarious tales of dudes from other media outlets being dogs, and oh yeah.. the real reason we are here: To get our hands on a bunch of sweet video games and tell you whether they suck or not. Luckily we have a full panel this evening that got to try a bunch of new games and learn about a lot of new and exciting technology headed to a living room near you. Aaron and Cory recount their first experience with the Oculus, Jada fawns over the new Sonic Boom, and we all share our feelings on what is shaping up to be an amazing video game expo. This is a part one of three so be sure to keep a look out the next few days for more Videogame BANG! E3 recaps. What’s up, Pizzas?! Welcome to Videogame BANG! Presented by NerdReactor.com. We are a gaming, technology, and entertainment podcast hosted by Cory Vincent and Aaron Carter. We have a whole team of friends and characters that stop by the VGB studio and we talk about the latest and greatest in nerd culture, and interview the most relevant figures in modern geekery. In our first episode flying the Nerd Reactor banner we come out swinging with a battle royale of special guests for your ear-hole pleasure. Starting things off we have the head honcho of Nerd Reactor, but more importantly our new boss, John “Spartan” Nguyen. We talk Batman: Arkham Origins, GTA glitches, and we have our favorite segment ‘Whattcha Playin?!’ Next, we welcome Genese Davis to the show. Genese is the beautiful redhead version of the Dos Equis’ Most Interesting Man in the World. She is an Equestrian, a real-life pilot, a world-ranked World of Warcraft player, and now the author of the new novel The Holders Dominion. She tells us about her current web series with Pixel Vision: The Gamer in You, and her humble beginnings in the video game world. You would think that after all of the excitement from Genese, we would just end the episode, but we here at Videogame BANG! are never satisfied! You know her from Geek and Sundry’s vlog ‘Word Play’ on YouTube and League of Legends ‘Summoner’s Showcase’, she is Nika Harper. She talks about life after the ‘Summoner’s Showcase’ and her passion for literature. Things get pretty heavy as we talk about forum trolls and white knights, and her life as a Slitheren. Rounding out our most star-studded episode to date we are joined by Raphael Van Lierop. He is the founder and creative director over at Hinterland Games. They are working on a new survival simulation game, The Long Dark. Hinterland Games is The Expendables of game developers with an all-star cast working on this project behind the scenes, as well as an amazing cast of voice actors including David Hayter, Mark Meer, and Jennifer Hale. Aaron auditions for a part in the game and Raphael promises us beta keys! We hope you enjoy the show! Please comment, like, and share. We appreciate your feedback. Next week we will be back with another dramatic episode of Videogame BANG!
