Questions include 3 things people don't understand about coaching girls high school basketball, what is the hardest thing about it, and the biggest differences nowadays between high school programs and clubs. I also got Kelly to talk about specific players that he has had the opportunity to coach that made a lasting impression. Kelly is a phenomenal coach, person, father and friend. Alyssa has over half-a-million TikTok followers, and we focus on her foray into the Mukbang and ASMR world over the last year-and-a-half. We get into how she decided to start shifting her focus to Mukbangs and ASMR, what exactly they are, and how things have skyrocketed since she made that adjustment. I also ask her questions about the uniqueness of filming mostly from her vehicle, and when she first got comfortable eating on camera. Other topics focus on her followers, how she gets contacted by restaurants who want to work with her, and how she got to go to Bottlerock for free!We also talk a bit about being paid on TikTok, the future of TikTok, and how she has been recognized out in public. Yes, most of the episode is about food....but it's interesting and Alyssa really explains her thought process and what all of this has meant to her. Episode 72 of The Mic is Ahn Podcast talks about the importance of class reunions, memorial services, and answering the question of how students have changed over time. This episode is all my voice (exciting!), talking about attending a recent class reunion as a teacher and what the experience was like. I felt compelled to talk about how I think that reunions and memorials are meaningful to seeing old friends and acquaintances and the opportunity to reconnect with former parts of your life. I touch on the fact that I don't have very many friends that live near to me and how that might not be abnormal...but that only means we have to treasure times we have with those who are close to us. I finish off by answering a question that I have been asked by many former students: What are the biggest changes in students nowadays? You might be surprised by the answer....but no matter what...check the episode out and let me know what you thought! This episode is the 4th in a series following the college careers of Paige Davis and Lexi Miloradovitch. Better known on this podcast as the college girls, we have followed Lexi and Paige all the way through their 4 years of higher education. What started in 2020 with an idea to see what it would be like to document two good friends going through completely different college situations, we now get to talk about them being College Grads! Both Lexi and Paige graduated in the summer of 2024 and now we are here to talk about it all. We hit their final year from all angles. What was their final year like? What were their graduation experiences (remember, they didn't get a normal high school graduation)? We talk about their next stops before diving into their final views on college. What will they miss the most about college? What will they miss about their college cities? What will they not miss? We also touch on what they miss about high school and a whole bunch of other college related topics. I am so proud of both of these young women for being willing to share their thoughts and feelings with me and you, the listeners, as they followed their collegiate paths. As you will hear, they are all grown up now, and they have plenty to say about what this experience meant to them.As their former teacher, I could not be more proud of their growth, maturity, and ability to be introspective at such a high level. This episode brings some firsts to The Mic is Ahn. Andrew Kline is our first guest in the history of the podcast that is bringing us into the world of professional wrestling! Andrew is also the first guest to have a slash in his last name because Andrew Cass is the character he portrays in the squared circle. This interview was a breath of fresh air for me, because as a lifelong wrestling fan, I've been waiting for the opportunity to talk about it with someone else who is actually going through it! Andrew's story is also very unique. He actually began his wrestling career before he graduated from high school...unbeknownst to most others. I got to know Andrew during his sophomore year of high school, and I knew of his goal of becoming a professional wrestler pretty early on. I am even more excited for you to hear how it came about, how it's going, and how well he is doing. We talk about the first practice, the first match, and of course what his family and friends think about this whole process. Andrew is a high-flyer that you're definitely going to want to see, and I'm so happy that he was willing to talk about it all on the podcast. Episode 69 of the Mic is Ahn brings us Hannah Parkus. Hannah brings us a new topic on the podcast, which is the world of cinematography. Hannah is a cinematography major at the University of Hawaii and in this interview, we discuss her love of being behind the camera and how much it has changed her life. Hannah is a great example of someone who is making the most of her opportunities, while not letting anything get in her way. Hannah has experience in freelance videography and has been involved with some great productions in Hawaii. We talk extensively about her internship that led to her participation in a Disney film, from beginning to end. We also talk about her work on a short film that received awards from the University. She also tells us about another internship on the island for a new TV show coming out on Fox this fall. This is a great interview, and Hannah is open to sharing her knowledge and experience with everyone. This episode of the podcast is an important one. Vicki and I talk about dealing with the loss of a loved one, and what it's like from all perspectives. Vicki tells us the story of her family and how they went through a major loss. She does a remarkable job of explaining the details, emotions, situations, and effects that losing a loved one can have on a person. We talk about grief from her view, her sons view, and all that they have been through. Vicki also is willing to get into questions and answers that most people don't feel comfortable talking about. My goal for this episode is to help anyone who listens to better understand what loss and the ensuing grief are like. If you've already had to deal with major loss, this episode is still for you, because we leave no stone unturned. Sure, the episode is more serious. But, it is also informative, sensitive, and unique. No matter what, in the end I know you'll agree that Vicki Connell is a brave, strong soul. Valeria Recinos is a kindergarten teacher who has taught multiple different grade levels and has done a great job of bringing her experiences to Instagram and TikTok. We talk about all things elementary, including the very unique things she did with her class during the online Covid year. We talk all about teaching little humans, how she initially wanted to teach anything but kindergarten, and how she can't imagine doing anything else now. Topics include class size, cultures, strategies, what she wishes parents and others knew about teaching, and what keeps her excited about her work. Valeria is also a former student of mine, so we rehash the high school memories as well. This podcast was the first talking teaching with a teacher that I also had as a student.....and Valeria was a great guest. In today's episode, we meet Jason Ming, the general manager of Red Plate, a high-level Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas, NV. Jason's story and path are so incredibly unique, as he is also the first guest to be on the podcast that makes his living in the restaurant industry. We begin from high school....and I assure you that Jason started from the ground floor.....before starting his climb.....and he did it all on his own. We focus on Jason's story for the first part of the interview, before we get to all kinds of questions about what it takes to be an assistant manager or general manager of a fancy restaurant. I had so many questions about this life, as I have always been enamored with the restaurant world. We talk about the covid times, dealing with guests, what it takes to be successful....and also the relationship between restaurant management and teaching. Jason's craziest restaurant story with guests isn't to be missed. Before we finish, Jason asks me questions about what gives me my "juice" in teaching, as well as how to truly get to know teenagers. Aubrey is actually still in school and is currently playing for the Pepperdine Beach Volleyball Team. However....Aubrey's story started with indoor volleyball at Pepperdine back in the fall of 2019. Since then, a lot has happened. This is why I was so happy to have Aubrey as a guest on the podcast. Her story is completely unique, and her path was changed by her own grit and determination. In this episode, Aubrey talks about how in the world she got her beach volleyball career started, the ups and downs in-between, and what she is expecting in her final year of playing. Trust me when I tell you that my answers involve things I've never talked about before on the podcast. Episode 62 is a blast from the past. I've wanted to talk about this for awhile, and now is the time. I once worked with the Dallas Mavericks for one NBA season. Today I'm talking about it on the podcast. My goal for this episode is to tell the story of working for the Dallas Mavericks during the 1999-2000 season as the Mascot Coordinator and Street Team Coordinator. What does that mean? What did I do? How did I get there? All of these questions will be answered in this episode. I talk about the job descriptions, what the day-to-day was like, and what game days were like from my perspective. Of course I added some stories from the year...because this was a very important year in the history of the Mavericks. During the middle of the season, Mark Cuban bought the team...which I talk about. I also cover road trips that I went on, Dennis Rodman, Don Nelson stepping up to Karl Malone, listening to Pat Riley yell and curse....a lot, being at a Christmas party at Nellie's house and why I was only there for one year. There is a bunch of information in this episode that I haven't ever talked about with anyone....so tune in....check it out....and enjoy my year with the Dallas Mavericks! In this episode I talk to Melissa Hamblin, a well-known Disney planning expert and Disney podcaster. Melissa is better known as Mix In Some Magic, as that is the handle for all of her social media and website information. I first became familiar with her on her Instagram page and through her weekly podcast. I wanted to talk to her about how in the world she first became involved in the Disney universe and wanting to help people have the best Disney experiences possible. In this wide-ranging interview, we talk about Melissa's childhood memories and experience with Disneyland and how that changed once she had her own family to share it with. We touch on what her family's reaction has been to her being a full-time Disney expert and how they've rolled with the changes throughout the years. Melissa also answers a bunch of questions about her experiences at Disneyland, from being recognized, to talking about the most underrated or under appreciated attractions, to choosing her favorite bathrooms in the park. Our goal in this podcast is to feed your Disney hunger, and no matter what you thought or think about Disneyland, I'm betting that you'll like it more after hearing Melissa. I believe that Melissa (Mix In Some Magic) is the most versatile Disney expert around, because she brings unique views to her Instagram, Youtube and podcast...and she has a newly designed web page to bring them all together. In this episode I interview Kristina Dumbeck, someone who I've known for more than 40 years. Kristina is a high school teacher, but her path to that profession took quite a while. We talk about the journey Kristina took to finally get her into the high school classroom...and we visit all aspects of education along the way. I have wanted to get Kristina on the podcast since the very beginning, because I know how much she brings to the classroom. Kristina is an amazing person, and I knew that would come out during the interview. We delve into all kinds of teaching/education topics, involving philosophy, passion, love for students...and what we try to do to reach our students each year. You don't have to be a teacher to enjoy this interview....I promise.....and if you want to hear two people that love what they do....yes..I'm talking about me as well....then this episode is for you. The guest on this episode is my brother Kevin Ahn. He makes his return to do something we have been trying to do for some time.....telling childhood stories that we remember...mostly....and laughing....a LOT! This episode is different from the previous 57 episodes in that all we do is tell old stories from earlier in our lives. The topics we cover are extremely eclectic...which is what the original goal of the podcast was. Just a few tidbits that we talk about are: Piano recital, syrup, applesauce, yogurt, UFOs, Woolite, Gi Joes, Singapore, "Not Here", wooden pews, airports, time slowing down, "Champion", fried chicken, candlestick malts, lightsabers? and Tokyo Disney. If that doesn't excite you, I don't know what will. I am fully aware that some of you will be very invested in this episode. If you aren't already familiar with them, they made their debut in episode 12 and returned on episode 42. This is their 3rd year in college, and in this interview we talked about a whole bunch of unique topics pertaining to their college experiences. To catch you up, Lexi and Paige are good friends that graduated from Northgate High School in 2020 and then went off to college in different places just as the pandemic was in full swing. Lexi has been at TCU in Fort Worth, TX and Paige has been at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA. In this podcast we talk about: How they are most different now, classes they are taking, the most underrated thing about their campuses, and a good bit about food. We talk about how to identify new students on campus, how their relationships with their parents have changed, and we also mention the future. We get very real with everything, including struggles and issues they've had, but I promise you we have fun. Oh yeah....we talk about their sports experiences....and TCU has had some great ones. Paige and Lexi both get to ask me questions near the end....and there is plenty of laughter throughout. Episode 56 is a return of the questions and answers....with a small family Star Wars update at the beginning. It has been quite a while since I did one of these episodes, so get ready to hear all kinds of answers to questions that have been asked recently. Topics covered include: Rides at Disneyland, advice for seniors in high school, socks, ice cream, karaoke songs and cereals. I also talk about how I go about making an episode of the podcast, answer a question about getting over the initial shock of a loved one passing, and finish up by talking about my favorite episodes and how I stay passionate in my job as a physical education teacher. The episode is eclectic...which is what I've always wanted from the podcast. Just remember....if anything I say makes you think of something....get your question in...I aim to please. In this episode, I talk to Dr. Laura Kuan....a chiropractor by trade....but that doesn't begin to tell her whole story. This interview is a good snapshot of what I want this podcast to be. We talk about how she initially had the want to be in the medical field and how she found her path to chiropractic. Laura also had to change gears when the pandemic hit, and we talk extensively about what she started to do on Instagram, which has blossomed into roads she never thought about taking. Interestingly enough, one of the reasons I really wanted to talk to Laura also dealt with her Instagram....but for a travelogue that she did...in Taiwan.....in quarantine. We get into that and what she's doing now...and of course she has questions for me at the end. Laura gets me to talk about my thoughts and feelings of the podcast....and where it could be headed. For whatever reason you need, listen to the podcast and you're bound to find something you'll like. Episode 54 brings Dave Gomez back to the Mic is Ahn for his 3rd appearance. In this interview, we hit all kinds of topics involving Dave and his work as a school resource officer. We talk about the Uvalde shootings and what things we can do in schools to better prepare and organize for worst case scenarios. Then we get to two different subjects that we care a lot about.....bad language and disrespect. As always, Dave brings his unique and fresh perspective about how he deals with these frustrating things and how to help parents and students to work through them. We also get very in depth into sextortion, and Dave talks about all the ways he is seeing this happen to individuals in and out of schools. Before we are done, I ask Dave about funny moments he's had as a police officer and he tells some great stories. If you've never heard Dave before....I know you'll want to go back and listen to his first 2 episodes. Let your family and friends know about all the things you hear in this interview with Dave. This interview is very different. Let's get that out of the way. The guest in this episode is Dr. Celeste Holbrook, who is a renowned sexologist. However, there is a larger story that must be talked about first. Celeste and I tell the story of her brother, Devon Becker. Devon and I were friends....and the first part of the interview is a tribute to Devon, talking with Celeste about his life and how we all became intertwined. Throughout the interview, you will hear about Celeste's life as well, including how she got to her current profession. Words aren't going to do this episode justice as far as what it means to me. I feel that this is the exact reason for this podcast. There isn't anywhere else we could talk about the topics we do, yet weave together two lives and tell a whole story. Yet...I believe that's what we accomplish in this episode. I'll ask you to trust me on that one and take a listen. Together, Celeste and I talk about two specific topics....Death....and Sex....that most of the time make people uneasy. But, I'm betting that if you listen to this interview....you'll find yourself laughing more than feeling any sense of unease. Celeste is an amazing educator and sister....and that will come through as you listen. In this episode, we are talking men's college volleyball with Miks Ramanis, a sport and topic that we have not yet covered in the first 50 episodes. Miks is currently playing volleyball for the BYU (Brigham Young University) men's volleyball team. We talk to Miks about how he got started playing the sport, and work through his high school career at Northgate High School up to attending BYU. We also talk about the experience Miks had this past summer with the Latvian men's national volleyball team. Perhaps the most interesting part of Miks being at BYU is that he isn't actually a Morman. We cover the ins and outs of his experience and talk all about funny moments and what it's actually like to play volleyball at BYU. In this, the 51st episode of The Mic is Ahn, I talk about how we got here (thus the title). How did the podcast begin? What were the initial ideas like? How did it come together? What is the story with the name of the podcast again? My goal in this episode was to touch on all of that and more....specific episodes and what I've tried to bring to you. Look at this episode as a celebration of actually getting this far....when I truly had no idea if it would ever get to 20 episodes. I also talk about my initial love for radio...and give some history about my time behind the mic...way back in the day....before PE came about. Finally, I just want to thank all of you for being a part of the podcast...whether you've been a guest or a listener or someone who has given feedback or ideas. You're all important and have all played a part in making my podcast dreams come true. 51 episodes in....more to come.....The Mic is Ahn.....still grinding. The 50th episode of The Mic is Ahn Podcast brings us Janine Loutzenhiser....which is unique in more ways than one. To begin with, Janine is the first guest that brings us to the topic of radio broadcasting, which is a favorite of mine as well. The other coincidence is that the number 50 is meaningful in her life also....and we will get to that. Janine has a very interesting path that has led her to her on-air radio career that she is currently working in. It hasn't been a straight path, and it hasn't been easy. She has experienced some really tough times in her family life and we will discuss how that affected her in both positive and negative ways. In this episode, you will hear Janine's personality front and center....and it is a great one. Our talk is filled with laughter, fun stories, and past memories. In addition to hearing about Janine's career in radio, we will touch on the Backstreet Boys, our love of Gordon Ramsay, and bumpy plane rides to Wyoming. It's all here.....and I think you'll enjoy it. Tell your friends to listen wherever they get their podcasts. The Mic is Ahn....50 deep. This episode finally brings us into the world of golf. Gia Feliciano is currently a golfer for the University of Wisconsin women's golf team. In this interview Gia talks about how she got into golfing at a young age and how that led to her deciding she wanted to try to play in college. We talk about how golf recruitment works, how she chose the University of Wisconsin, and what it's like to be a collegiate athlete in that sport. We also touch on how strange it was starting college during the midst of the Covid pandemic and how she had to adjust during last school year. We cover the mental side of her game and how it is so important to stay levelheaded....even when that seems difficult. Before we're done we talk about life in Wisconsin, of course the food in Wisconsin, and why she is so happy there. Gia is a breath of fresh air....jovial...and informative. I am confident that you will enjoy this interview....and maybe even decide to follow the Wisconsin women's golf team in the future! The Mic is Ahn....teeing off.

Her major success didn't come together until the pandemic became a part of all of our lives. We will hear Julia's story, from injury to struggles in college...and how she has overcome many of her obstacles that she had earlier in her running life. Julia talks about mental preparation, strategy, and what she thinks about while running races. In this episode, Dave Gomez returns to the podcast to talk about his life as a resource officer. We hit all topics that need to be talked about with parents, youth...and anyone.....things that are affecting lives in 2022. Dave is one of my favorite people in this world. All of these are happening to the youth of today...and others as well. If you haven't heard Dave's first episode (#3), I would highly encourage it. Since this one gives you an intricate look into his life, I know that many of you will appreciate the perspectives and genuine care and compassion that Dave brings to all that he comes in contact with. This may be the most unique episode that we've ever done. It is what it says. Justin Weaver and I talk about the deaths of our fathers. This is a topic that many people don't feel comfortable talking about...or know how to go about it. For Justin and myself, we thought that it was important to have the conversation and wanted you to have the opportunity to listen to it also. Even if you didn't know our fathers, the episode is really good. It is raw...emotional...and meaningful. We talk about the stories of their deaths, perspectives, feelings, and similarities and differences. Please listen....and take the time to rate and review. Jon Campopiano is the Executive Director for Secondary schools in the San Ramon Unified School District in San Ramon, CA. However....his path made a lot of stops before he got there. He was a teacher/coach at Northgate High School for many years, which is where I first met him. This episode was one I had wanted to do for a long time, because we get to talk about our love for education and the opportunity to work with teens. Campo (as I always call him) is a great leader, and that will be evident from our conversation. It was important for me to have him as a guest because I want everyone to have the chance to hear his philosophies on education, teens, and why he does what he does. We cover many topics, from his growth as a teacher and administrator and father....to looking back on funny memories we have from coaching freshman football together at Northgate many years ago.
