We continue our celebration of Disneyland's 70th anniversary. We started this series at Disneyland with a look at Tomorrow. We now wind the clock backwards and start at the entrance of the park. Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland is a remarkable place. It is the only land in the only park that had an apartment for Walt Disney where he stayed regularly to "walk in the shoes of his guests." That kind of immersion allowed him to see new possibilities in how to create "The Happiest Place on Earth". I have walked this street for over 60 years and I want to share just how really special it is. It is not only the red carpet to any Disney fan, but we see how these places amaze not just from the guest view, but from a leadership view point. It's a perspective that permits you to see how you can build your own employees and create a great customer experience. Join us as we "Walk Down the Middle of Main Street, U.S.A" to see how Walt Disney personally touched this park, and how its design is a message for organizations big and large. _______________________________________________________ More Disney Insights can be found below! Send us a textUnless you're taking the monorail, Main Street, U.S.A. is the first place you see as you enter Disneyland — and the last place you pass through on your way out. Back in 1955, it served as the grand entrance to Walt's dream, setting the stage for everything to come. But how does it hold up today? And how might it evolve through the lens of modern Imagineering and the realities of current park capacity? In this episode of Imagine That!, Amanda, Kevin, and Louis dive into that very question, exploring how we might preserve the nostalgia of Main Street while updating it to better serve today's guests. So grab a corn dog from the Little Red Wagon and take a stroll with us down the middle of Main Street, U.S.A.Have ideas of your own? If you know, you know. It's a feeling that every Disney traveler experiences. Whether it's your very first Disney vacation or your 20th Disney vacation, there's one common and magical moment that every visitor experiences: that first walk up Main Street U.S.A.Subtle Disney inspired graphic t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies designed to capture that Main Street feeling It's a feeling that says “we're here.” A feeling when the magic is palpable and the anticipation of everything that's about to come is all around you. Few things encapsulate the magic of a Disney moment than a walk up or down Main Street. It affects how you walk, what you wear and what you do. For those who embrace it, we call that feeling Main Street SwaggerTM and we designed a whole collection to celebrate that feeling. What is Main Street Swagger? Main Street Swagger comes in many forms. Do you get dressed up, or put on a specially-selected outfit for your first walk on Main Street? Maybe it's a special shirt or a special Mickey headband or Mickey ears. Even kids in strollers can rock Main Street Swagger in their own way. We've seen it all over the years. Main Street Swagger can be dapper, Disney themed or a vacation vibe. Main Street Swagger can involve:Stopping for that must-have Main Street photo of you with the castle in the backgroud. Rocking a coffee as you swagger up Main Street in style...soaking it all in. Stopping by the Emporium or Crystal Arts to see what you can add to your outfit to enhance your swagger with something new. There's Main Street Swagger in all of that. But Main Street Swagger isn't just about what you wear, it's how you wear it. That swagger is the feeling of magic in your step. That “I'm home” state-of-mind. The Inspiration for Main Street Swagger at 1923 Main Street The inspiration for the Main Street Swagger phrase and collection came from a single photo. There's a photo of Mike Belobradic (1923 Main Street founder) from 1984. Mike has always had Main Street Swagger and this particular photo captured it all. It led the creation of the “Main Street Swagger” phrase and clothing that was born out of that. The photo features Mike walking with swagger up Main Street U.S.A. in March 1984,wearing a tiger-striped black and white shirt, complete with tropical flowers within the design. Everyone around him in the photo is wearing a plain solid-colored shirt. Mike definitely stands out with swagger. It was a bold move and the genesis for how the Main Street Swagger collection came to be. Main Street Swagger means not caring about the world around you as you make your way up Main Street U.S.A. and into the magic. You're home and the magic is within you. That's what Main Street Swagger is all about. What's Your Main Street Swagger? Every Disney traveler does Main Street Swagger in their own way. Christmas and Disney magic just seem to go together. Whether you're planning a Disney vacation during the holiday season, or just sharing a little magic at home, it's always nice to have a little Disney inspiration in your wardrobe. Do you wear Disney inspired Christmas clothes? The most popular items for your list this year Whether it's Disney official clothing or non-Disney apparel inspired by the magic, Christmas and holiday-themed apparel adds a little extra magic to just about any seasonal festivity. The Most Popular Disney-Inspired Apparel Items for Christmas Christmas and holiday themed apparel falls into three categories: 1. Christmas themed patterns 2. Christmas sweaters3. Christmas graphics Apparel items can be anything from hoodies, t-shirts and sweatshirts, to leggings, dresses and wide-leg pajama pants (which can be worn day or night, inside or outside). Disney Official and Disney-Inspired Holiday Wear If you're looking for Disney character themed holiday apparel, then hitting the shops on your Disney vacation can be a lot of fun. From Disney official to Disney licensed clothing, you can find lots of fun festive cheer that features Disney characters in all sorts of holiday activities. If you're looking for Christmas apparel that doesn't feature Disney characters or intellectual property, but that is inspired by the magical feeling that you get on a Disney vacation, then the Disney inspired apparel items are a good option. Note that when we say Disney inspired, we are not talking about any shop or seller that violates Disney trademarks. If you want Disney characters or intellectual property, then buy from Disney or Disney licensed sellers. When Would You Want Disney-Inspired versus Disney Official? While most Disney fans likely have both style of festive wear in their closet, sometimes you may not want a Disney character on your clothes, but you still want to capture that family vibe and ambiance of a Disney Christmas vacation. In these cases, Disney inspired – or subtle Disney clothes, as we like to say – is a great way to go. It's the perfect complement to your official Disney wardrobe. Here at 1923 Main Street, for example, we design festive holiday wear that draws inspiration from the joy and positive ambiance of the Disney experience. This can be anything from a festive street scene reminiscent of the feeling of Main Street U.S.A. at Christmas, to a graphic design that celebrates hopping between theme parks during the holidays. Chances are, you may want to add a little Disney official and Disney-inspired to your wardrobe to ensure you have something for every occasion and holiday event. What is the Most Popular Single Apparel Item for the Holidays? With so many different Christmas-themed clothes items from which to choose, what is the most popular and versatile piece of clothing, if you only want to buy one? While the popular ugly Christmas sweater can be good choice for some, not everyone likes sweaters. Plus, the Christmas sweater on its own is not as versatile a piece to wear for multiple occasions over the holidays. If you only want to have one Christmas or festive themed item in your wardrobe, Mike recommends a Christmas or holiday themed sweatshirt as your go-to item. Sweatshirts are versatile and can be worn to many occasions. They pair well with jeans, leggings or a skirt and even with pajama bottoms. Plus, their warm and can be layered for times when you need something a little extra cozy. Amelia's top pick, while she agrees with sweatshirt idea, is to consider Christmas or holiday-themed wide-leg pants/pajama pants. These are also quite versatile for curling up next to a fire to watch a movie, or to head out to a cozy Christmas gathering.Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel Style PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, we that you enjoyed it. Walt insisted on having THIS on main street USA... and now it's gone. In the Distorian's Lounge with Kate this week, we explore the unique history of Disneyland's West Center Street. Starting with some beautiful (but plastic) displays, we discover the reason for the pickle cart on East Center Street, take a ride in the Carnation milk truck with Walt, find some bizarre cheeseburgers, and discuss medical antiques from the 1800s that used to have a home in Disneyland. Along the way, we'll tell a few side stories about C.V. Wood, getting sponsors to pay for Disneyland, and exactly why the shops are so small on Main Street U.S.A. Are you a Disney fan, but weary of the prices and endless lines at the theme parks? Or perhaps you have a large family and taking a trip to Orlando, Florida or Anaheim, California isn't in the budget. In this week's episode, host Nat Cardona is joined by NerdWallet's Sally French who has 5 U.S. destinations for Disney fans that aren't Disneyland or Disney World. Read more on NerdWallet here! About this program Nat Cardona is host of PennyWise as well as Lee Enterprise's true-crime podcast Late Edition: Crime Beat Chronicals. Lee Enterprises produces many national, regional and sports podcasts. Episode transcript Note: The following transcript was created by Adobe Premiere and may contain misspellings and other inaccuracies as it was generated automatically: Welcome to Pennywise, a Lee Enterprises podcast. I'm your host, Nat Cardona. Calling all Disney fans! Orlando, Florida and Anaheim, California. Been there, done that, right? Are you looking for a new adventure to express your love for Disney? We have NerdWallet travel rewards expert Sally French with us today, ready to share five alternative Disney inspired destinations. All right, Sally, we've got a fun topic today, as you know. I know pretty much anyone in the living world knows Disney fans are big fans. They're just all hyped up for all things Disney. The two destinations we have in the US are the one in Anaheim, Disneyland and then Disney World in Orlando and all the things that come with it. But you've recently written an article about five US destinations that Disney fans may not know of that are maybe some hot places for them to go. So let's just jump right into it. I looked at this list and was pretty surprised by every single one. First one being New York City. Yes. You know, this is a major tourist destination for anyone, Disney fan or not. But there are some good reasons for Disney fans to skip the Disneyland and Disney World vacation in 2024 and maybe head to New York City instead. So, for starters, Disney's official stuff is the two musicals that it's got running Aladdin and Lion King. Lion King is an absolute classic, really stunning art. And then Aladdin is just so much fun. The genie is hilarious. It's just great energy. So if you want to see a Broadway musical, those are two good ones to see. And not far from Broadway is the Times Square Disney Store. Unlike your usual mall Disney store, this one's two stories. It's got the usual Disney merch, but it's also got cool, unique, unique New York merchandise. And then finally, my best free to visit option and doesn't require, you know, that $100 plus Broadway ticket or buying stuff at the Disney store. This one's free You can head to the New York Public Library. What's really cool is they have the actual original plush versions of Stuffed Winnie the Pooh and all his friends. So little stuff, Tigger, Piglet, all those guys. So I think that's a pretty cool historical thing to see that Disney fans in the plaza. Who do guess it's super awesome. Very, very cool. The next saw an even less of what I expected. Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. What's Disney related We're. We're heading south to Hilton head get a little more warmth from New York and this is home to a really interesting Disney owned resort. It's called Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. And it's part of the Disney Vacation Club. And this is a sort of timeshare like program. And to be honest, Nerdwallet does not recommend that most people join this unless you're the most ardent Disney fan who spends a lot of money as it is. In fact, the baseline cost to join it now is more than $30,000. And then there are annual resort fees or sorry, sorry annual annual dues for DDC. But what's interesting is you don't necessarily need to be a DVC member to stay at this resort. You can pay cash rates when available. And another thing that people do is they rent DVC points from existing members who just aren't vacationing that year. 00:03:27:18 - 00:03:52:13Speaker 2And so I will pay you to use your points instead. And it's interesting, unlike the resorts that are, you know, super high energy, you have a ton going on. Hilton Head is more leisurely. This is good for the Disney fan who want some Disney touches, but also just wants to go fishing or hiking or swimming. And so this is a really great way to take a Disney vacation that's far more relaxing than your theme park vacation. Actually, that's fascinating. I wish I could talk to somebody that's a part of that because I had no idea. That's nuts. Yeah, yeah. And you know, it can definitely be worth it if you truly go to Disney every year and, you know, sometimes you can get DLC, look at, you know, a resort like the Animal Kingdom budget, Disney World, which is so beautiful and has actual animals out front. You can get rooms there for the equivalent of like 100 or $200 in your DVC points versus, you know, the cash rates. There are can be easily over 400. So it can be a good deal. The problem is you have to commit to a Disney vacation every single year, which you might not necessarily want to do, or maybe just something like, you know, hopefully not another COVID pandemic happens and you can't travel that year and you're kind of out of luck. Yeah, we don't want that at all. But the next place we have, we're heading down to Missouri. Yes. This is Marceline, Missouri. I and this is Walt Disney's considered his hometown. Walt Disney was actually born near Chicago, but he spent most of his boyhood in Marceline. So so we consider this Walt Disney's hometown. And it's actually said to have shaped his vision for Main Street U.S.A., which is the iconic entrance to the park. And when you go to Marceline, you really feel that same thing. It's a small town, feel really cute, small town. And then if you're a Disney fan, you have to go to the Walt Disney Hometown Museum. They have tons of memorabilia. They've got Walt's desk there from when he was a grade school kid. And you know, it is because he carved his name in the desk just like we all did when we were in first grade. Walt Disney did the same thing. And you can see that desk there on some other cool stuff. You can see his boyhood home. A really great place to check out if you're a Disney fan. And Sally, I see that you've maybe gone there before from this date.I checked it out. I saw I saw his desk with my own eyes. And it's a fun spot. It's sort of a little hard to get to it. I would recommend flying into Kansas City Airport and then you definitely will need a rental car to get there. But if you're a Disney fan, it's absolutely worth it. Yeah, Missouri is one of those cool little spots, various parts across the state. I'm from Chicago, and so Illinois is obviously the next state over and there's a lot of hidden gems there. And I just really didn't know that Walt Disney's Hometown Museum was one of them. So not to mention it totally is. So we're heading towards your neck of the woods, San Francisco. That's correct. So there's the hometown museum in Marceline, Missouri, and then there's the Walt Disney Family Museum. And this is located in San Francisco. Walt Disney, whose family lives in the San Francisco Bay area. So this museum was actually founded by his daughter, who has since passed away. But now it's sort of overseen by his grandchildren. And this is a really cool place, especially if you love history of any type, whether it's Disney history or just, you know, World War Two era history, Depression era history is really compelling. 00:07:06:19 - 00:07:37:10Speaker 2And they have cool stuff in there. They have a multi plane camera, which is just one of three in the world that was used to film animated movies like Pinocchio and Bambi. And there's an amazing Disneyland model, and it's really fun to look at. You could spend hours and hours there. And besides the the Walt Disney Family Museum, there's other really interesting Disney touches on the other side of the Bay Bridge over in Emeryville, which is the city adjacent to Oakland, is Pixar's headquarters. You can't walk through. But they do have, you know, some stuff that you can see out front. And of course, when in Oakland, you need to stop for ice cream at Fenton's Creamery, which you can see that exact version animated in the Pixar film app. I didn't know that. And the other one little aside that you had mentioned, Disney at Berkeley, the library, that's very similar to the one in Monsters University I can contest. That's true. And I'm a good old friends. I went to Berkeley and we walked through it and I was like, my God, I'm 20 years old. Look at this. This is just like the movie. It looks familiar, doesn't it? It's that's really last on on the list here. Looks like Oahu, Hawaii. Tell me more. Now. This is another vacation club outpost, so much like we talked about with the Hilton head, where you have to be a DVC member to stay. Alani is the DVC resort. But again, you can rent points or you can book remaining rooms on cash. This is an interesting resort. It's removed from Waikiki Beach. Where is all the tourists hullabaloo? This is an area called Colina, which is a little quieter, a little bit off the beaten path from Waikiki. And you can meet Disney characters here. The lines are so much shorter than meeting them in the parks. So if you want to meet Moana, you want to meet Mickey and Minnie, come do it here. And they've got giant pools and water slides, and then they've also got the Disney treats. So Disney fans loved it. You can buy that there. You can buy a spare moose Ruby in the shape of a mickey Mouse. And then, of course, if you do love toilets, you might as well head to Oahu anyway, because they've got the Dole plantation there, which is definitely a must visit for any door fans. Yeah, I've heard. It's very beautiful too, from the pictures that I've seen it Absolutely beautiful. Is it fair to say, since we're wrapping up this list here of these other Disney destinations, that you're a Disney fan yourself? Ooh, I think you got me. How did you guess? I don't know. I've been to all of these places because I'm such a personal fan. In fact, I was just at Aulani last week doing some very important research. I had to buy a Mickey shaped spam musubi just to make sure that I knew what I was talking about when I came to talk to you. Okay. And can you just tell me exactly what that is? I mean, I know you're saying the word spam, but I don't know what the next part is. Yes. Is there spam? Musubi is is a great Hawaiian classic treat. And you can buy these everywhere. You can buy them in the little mini markets like little ABC stores. And it's basically just a piece of spam and some rice and it's wrapped in seaweed and it's really tasty and those sprinkles and seasonings on it. And you can also customize these things. So if you want to get fancy, you could add some egg. You could add a little shrimp, you could add, you know, avocado. You can get fancy with a spam movie. But, you know, the fanciest for Disney fans is eating the rice in the spam in the shape of a Mickey Mouse head. Yeah. So once in a lifetime event can't be said. All right, Sally, anything else you need to add? Want to add about these Disney destinations? You know, there's so many good destinations around the U.S. and I think, you know, so many of us Disney fans go to Disneyland and go to Disney World. And we think we've seen it to the max. We've seen every corner. But there are so many other places to go travel to and experience Disney without being at a theme park. And save yourself some of those lines, too. Thank you so much, Sally. I appreciate it. Thank you.
This last week a business program I delivered took me to Kansas City, where Walt moved to around age 10, and where he returned to after serving in the Red Cross during World War I. If Disneyland's Main Street U.S.A. symbolizes Marcelline, Missouri, then Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom Main Street should symbolize Kansas City. We'll talk about the sights I saw and the impressions I had. It is a story of family struggles, of bankruptcy and dreams of a new life. Walt and Roy had a unique experience in Kansas City that prepared them for what lay ahead in California. We'll share all of it and then we'll liken it to our own lives and life experiences. __________________________________________________________ My new book, A Century of Powerful Disney Insights is available! Melissa also answers a bunch of questions about her experiences at Disneyland, from being recognized, to talking about the most underrated or under appreciated attractions, to choosing her favorite bathrooms in the park. Disney fans rejoice! On this episode, we're talking about the non-Disney music of Main Street U.S.A. I'm sure it comes as no surprise to hear how important music is to setting the mood of Main Street U.S.A. But have you ever really stopped to think about just how much music there is? There's the Main Street music loop playing through the speakers. And there are the Dapper Dans serenading the folks passing by. Additionally, there's a ton of music and musical groups performing throughout the day. Probably more than you even realize. And so much of it isn't even Disney specific. Joining me to discuss the plethora of musical options and some of the music's origins and history is the creator of the album and live shows "Swingin' with the Mouse," Pablo Rossil. When we started this podcast series examining the lands of Disneyland Park in the Disneyland Paris Resort, we began our first focused podcast with Fantasia Gardens, moved past the Disneyland Hotel, and down the left side of Main Street U.S.A., to include the Liberty arcade. We have then moved through Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Discoveryland. Now we will return to Main Street and move down the right side toward the castle. One might think this is a lot of podcast for what is a lot of shops and eateries but I hold that this is perhaps the best designed retail and dining experience in the world. Even better than any of the other Main Streets found in parks world-wide. The attention Imagineers put toward the design of this street is unparalleled in terms of attention to detail, especially for something that is not really about rides and attractions (though we will talk about the Disneyland Railroad). In fact, we will consider this as to whether this is the best combined indoor/outdoor entertainment/retail/dining mall-style experience across the globe. Join us as we continue our series of celebrating the many lands of Disneyland Park in Disneyland Paris. This podcast as well as all others are brought to you by Performance Journeys, which celebrates its 20th year as a training and development group bringing best in business ideas through keynotes, workshops, seminars and amazing benchmarking programs to organizations in the public, private and non-profit sectors. We begin a multi-part series that looks at the amazing details around Disneyland Paris. Today we begin at Fantasia Gardens and the Disneyland Hotel in the front of the park. We then step down the left side of Main Street U.S.A., which seems on the surface very similar to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. But we'll look at details you'll never see in Florida as we peel back the layers to this fantastic land designed by Disney Imagineer Eddie Sotto. Not only will we go through shops and restaurants up and down the street, but we'll see some buildings you won't find in your local Town Square. Join us as we look at Disney insight on Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland Paris. If you are even remotely considering going to Paris to see this park, this podcast series will get you to book your next trip.

It's been too long since guests have had the privilege of riding the Walt Disney Railroad, closed over four years ago when construction began on Tron. Still, good things are worth the wait and this attraction is lovelier than ever. We board at the Main Street U.S.A. station and take a scenic journey around the Magic Kingdom. There's much to discuss along the way, such as the upcoming closure of Splash Mountain, potential new attractions to come in Frontierland, and the new track layout at Tron Lightcycle Run. New narration has been created, hosted by a citizen of Main Street who always dreamed of running the trains. He introduces you to the wonder of the Magic Kingdom as you make your grand circle tour with stops in Frontierland and Fantasyland's Storybook Circus. Would you believe that Peter Pan and Wendy provide narrative along the way? Join us as and let's ride the Walt Disney World Railroad. To see the video, join us here on our YouTube channel, J. The more you listen to music, the more you may ponder the question: "which of these tracks is better?" That sparked the inspiration for this episode of Notably Disney, in which host Brett Nachman brings back to the podcast Dan Heaton (host, The Tomorrow Society Podcast), to pose a series of tough musical choices. Each Dan and Brett present 10 sets of Walt Disney World-themed music options to one another and discuss their preferences. Join me as I chat with Productivity & Purpose Coach, Kelli Hayes Smith about how to prioritize, set healthy boundaries and not feel the need to “do all the things”. More about Kelli from her website: HEY Y'ALL, KELLI HERE. JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL LIVING IN FANTASY LAND. I married my high school sweetheart, I'm a mom to a married 20 something, a teenager, & a preschooler – all boys. I love all elastic wasted pants, believe no outfit is complete without fuzzy socks, am obsessed with coffee mugs, and speak fluent Gilmore girl. If you ring my doorbell (or my DMs) & I don't answer – I'm probably just out for a run, cruising the Target dollar aisle, waiting for a jolt in the Dunkin drive thru – or – my personal favorite… Walkin' right down the middle of Main Street U.S.A. Now let's talk about me. I went to school to be a scrub tech, and while I love being in surgery – the schedule did NOT suit the lifestyle I wanted to live. By being away from my family more than I was home, I was watching too much of their lives on facetime and wasn't there nearly as much as I wanted to be. I had my last baby in 2018, and I never went back to the hospital after maternity leave. But I KNEW I had to do something for myself. So I took my side gig of planning Disney vacations, and turned it into a full time job. And it was going well. I mean I LOVE Disney World so that should make me happy right!? Well, I mean yeah – kind of. And I coasted with that for a couple years. I was with an agency that provided limited training in systems + socials, so I was left to figure it out all on my own.. and when 2020 shut down all of travel… I found out it wasn't planning travel I loved… it was creating content. I've worked in the online space since, with multiple different business types – helping with systems + socials… but I always attracted Travel Professionals more than anyone else. And that's what I love doing! I'm thankful for the time I spent in the general online entrepreneurship space – I learned so much goodness I can bring back to the travel industry. It's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community. Next up is an excellent interview with a fellow podcaster, Mike Rahlmann, and an interview with Erick Kanter from Expedition Roasters, all in the same episode! RUN We have a special interview with Be Our Guest Podcast host, Mr. Mike Rahlmann. His podcast is an excellent resource for those who travel to Walt Disney World or participate in RunDisney events. He talks about some great RunDisney race memories that will help us get through this time when we can't be at Disney crossing that finish line for the Star Wars Rival Run Challenge. EAT Mike also helped us out with the eating portion of our show! He talks about some great meals that he likes to get at Disney for pre-race and post-race meals. He has done the Dopey Challenge for several years and proves that the carb-loading meal does not have to be pasta. Although there are great Italian options on the property, Mike loves Olivia's at Old Key West Resort. That buttermilk fried chicken and the staff there make it all worthwhile! We must check it out at the next race! Thank you so much to Mike for spending time talking Disney with us!! You should check out his podcast and if you are looking to plan a Disney vacation when all of this has passed, check out the Magic For Less Travel, where he is a senior agent. Fill out a no-obligation quote and mention that you heard about it from the podcast so he can help you plan a fantastic trip! DRINK We are so excited to bring you Erick Kanter, owner of Expedition Roasters. Erick talks with us about their coffee (although they make tea and cocoa, too!). The coffee brings a bit of Disney home through theme, story, art, and great flavor. Prospector's Roast tastes just like a churro you'd get at our favorite theme park. Dana loves the Main Street U.S.A. Columbian Coffee that takes us back to people watching from a bench the way Walt Disney himself would upon entering the Magic Kingdom. SPECIAL DISCOUNT ON EXPEDITION ROASTERS ORDERS FOR US! Erick was kind enough to offer a special discount for our listeners! If you order from Expedition Roasters, use the code RED15 to get 15% off your order, so they know that you are part of the runcation nation! THAT'S A WRAP! Share a great virtual race or a place where we should all run, eat, and drink together when this challenging time is over! Our email is info@runeatdrink.net. Or you can call 941- 677-2733. Leave us a 1-minute message and let us make you runcation nation famous! Thank you for listening! We are looking forward to another great year of the podcast because of all your support! Don't forget to follow us and tell us where to find you next on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Also, check out our store on the website and get some swag, thanks to Pure Creative Apparel. Thanks to PodcastMusic.com for providing the music for this episode, too! And as always, if you choose to indulge, please drink responsibly by having a designated driver or taking a rideshare service. Stay safe, Runcation Nation!
http://www.attractionchecklist.com - It's time to hear some words of inspiration as we head to Disneyland to watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on March 8, 2022. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland to watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Revel in the stirring oratory of Abraham Lincoln—delivered in person—and explore rare Disneyland memorabilia. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes this attraction as being Dark. Before we blast off, here are five fast facts about Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. 1. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln has its origins in the 1964 New York World's Fair where the show was the prime feature of the State of Illinois Pavilion. A year later the show debuted at Disneyland on July 18, 1965. Over there years there have been some show tweaks and name changes and now Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is an element of the broader Disney Attraction The Disneyland Story presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln which debuted on December 18, 2009. 2. As you'll hear in the pre-show, Lincoln is voiced by actor Royal Dano. The recording in the current version of the show includes portions of the original World's Fair version of the show but made from, then, newly discovered recordings of Dano's performance. 3. The model of the Capitol Building in the lobby of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln took 3 years to carve from stone. 4. The present day version of this attraction shares some similarities with Epcot's American Adventure. Not only are the songs Two Brothers and Golden Dream featured in the show, the 12 Spirits of America featured in The American Adventure can bee seen in the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln lobby area. 5. While the Lincoln audio-animatronic has always been state of the art, in 2009 it made the jump from hydraulics to electronic giving it more of a range of motion. Let's head to the lobby to catch the pre-show. After the show, I'll give you my thoughts on this attraction. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln at Disneyland. The Main Street Confectionary has always been a part of the Main Street USA experience in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. But it hasn't always been the same over the years. We begin 50 years ago with the original history of the store, compare it to other Magic Kingdom style parks, show how it has grown over the years, and how the new store just recently opened is remarkably different than the last previous store. We promise that at no time Smellitzers will be used to make you want to go out and consume sugar, but this is a sweet tribute to an important part of Main Street U.S.A. and at no time will we fudge any of it. An accompanying outline, plus photos and videos can be found here at Disney at Play. Also, check out our YouTube site, J. Jeff Kober for more Disney videos. We can rely on the same homes in our neighborhoods to put up dazzling light displays year after year, the same bakeries and coffee shops to send aromas of molten chocolate and sugary, buttery temptation wafting into the streets like frost dissipating into the morning mist. Bursts of serotonin sound like jingle bells and the clip-clop of horse-drawn carriages, Bing Crosby's dulcet tones and the silence (yes, the silence) of a gentle midnight snowfall. Here at the Magic Kingdom, coming home for the holidays might look a little different than the Christmastimes of our childhood memories. As we enter the tunnel beneath the glossy and grand Walt Disney World Railroad Station, it becomes apparent to us at once that the elves who transformed this space into a holiday wonderland spared no detail or extravagance. All around us, every lamppost and railing, window and doorway are wrapped in elegance. Evergreen garlands and velveteen bows, golden accents and glimmering lights surround a Christmas tree of mesmerizing grandeur. All at once, we are transported into a fairytale of such imagination that it calls to mind the divertissements of the great Tchaikovsky. (3:36) Into the pines we go, to the land of the sweets, perhaps, or to the turn-of-the-century charm of Main Street, U.S.A. Either way, the caramel and cocoa wafting toward us from the nearby Confectionary inspire visions of sugar plums, and the sight of Cinderella Castle in the distance is the convergence of fantasy and reality that could only flow so seamlessly within the realms of a Disney park. (5:17) Beneath the popcorn strands and flickering candles of the Town Square Christmas tree, there are park benches scattered about, calling to those of us who have spent much of the season in frenetic preparations and planning. Have a seat, won't you, and listen to a symphony of classic holiday carols surround you in comfort and joy. Imagine yourself Here, watching the Kingdom in its holiday revelry, the windows of the Emporium a panorama of warmth and cheer to reflect the faces of shoppers and diners, families and friends. It may not be the park bench in your own village park, your favorite seat on the front porch or that squashy armchair by the fire, but there is no doubt that something about this place feels like home. Maybe it's the smiles and laughter all around us, the resilience of the human spirit shining brightly in the warm glow of Christmas lights. Maybe it's the sights and sounds that live in our memories and play our for us Here, like a film we'll gladly watch over and over again. (7:03) Or maybe it's something less tangible, less obvious. Maybe the Magic of the holidays is the very Magic that first brought this storybook Kingdom to life, and that which continues to inspire our journey and our zeal for discovering moments of joy in every corner of the world. Maybe the reason we feel at home in places so far removed from our routines because they remind us of something deeper, something intrinsic that cannot be replaced or forgotten. Here in the heart of the Magic Kingdom, we find an escape, a respite, a glimmer of hope in the midst of our circumstances…a moment of joy in the wake of our chaos. Let's be Here, then, in the luminescent embrace of the Christmas tree, on this quaint little park bench. Feel the Magic of the season surround you and fill you, welcoming you home for the holidays. (9:00) Throughout our insatiable quest to find quiet moments of joy in wide and wonderful world we live in, we've found that Magic is especially persistent at this time of year. It twinkles and dances and glows on the faces and facades we encounter all season long, and these glimpses of enchantment are what bring the holidays to life. Wherever we are, when we stumble upon those moments - when we feel joy and peace and renewed hope in our hearts, where we hear laughter billowing like radiant song - we have found home. So wherever this year has taken you, whether near or far from the places you know and the people you love best, you can always come home for the holidays. Even in the most unlikely places, even amongst families and children from all over the world, you can feel the cozy familiarity of a yuletide fireside. As it turns out, we don't need a living room out a Norman Rockwell painting, a Feast of the Seven Fishes, or even a White Christmas to experience the joy of the season. Its spirit lives within us, a lighthouse reaching into the depths of dark winter's night, like a friend who never truly parts from our company. Always there, always waiting, always Here to bring us home for the holidays. Experience the Magic of the season whenever your heart is longing for home. We're always Here, waiting, a lighthouse to help you find your way to a quiet moment of stillness and lasting joy. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, one and all.

Once you've stepped off Main Street U.S.A. and into the Cinderella Castle hub, there are several stories that circumvent the sparkling turrets and elegant courtyards that call to us with equal vigor and intrigue. Some hear the tinkling of a carousel and head straight toward the Castle, over the drawbridge and into Fantasyland. Others are enticed by the sound of tiki drums and a resounding “Yo Ho” from Adventureland. Still others enjoy stepping back in time, whether into America's inaugural moments or the tumbleweed towns of the Wild West. Then, there are those whose insatiable curiosity is not fed by scenes from the past, nor by wandering the medieval villages of fairytales brought to life. These are the ponderers, the ones who yearn for the future and what unknown wonders it might hold. As Walt Disney once put it, these are the people who “savor the challenge and promise of the future.” They resist the gravitational pull of the terrestrial, the time-worn traditions of the past. They look to Tomorrow, and it is there that they find inspiration and delight. Today, we are among them. (3:15) There is a bridge on the eastern side of Cinderella Castle, complete with a silver archway and otherworldly rock formations jettisoning off on either side. The shining words emblazoned at its peak read “Tomorrowland,” and our curious minds awaken suddenly in excitement and utmost attentiveness. A land of discovery and off-the-charts imagination, Tomorrowland is distinctly unlike every other corner of the Magic Kingdom. Our eyes are drawn upward and all around. Here, the sky is most certainly not the limit; we have an entire universe beyond to explore. All along the walkway toward Rockettower Plaza, a streetcar in the sky glides by, smoothly and serenely escorting passengers to their various destinations across the galaxy. A friendly, robotic voice narrates a grand circle tour of Tomorrowland, pointing out popular attractions and must-sees on your visit to this futuristic destination. (4:49) As we pass the Monster's Incorporated Laugh Floor, the indomitable Roz drawls in apathetic tones that do not invite us to linger. An otherworldly symphony of sounds provides the rhythm for our journey, intriguing and unlike anything we might hear around the rest of the park. Synthesized and unrecognizable as being produced by any Earthly instrument, we catch glimpses of familiar tunes, including the Sherman Brothers classic that inspired so much of this place: “There's a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow.” (6:37) Up ahead, Rockettower Plaza is a technicolor tower of unrelenting kinesis. Planets and moons of all sizes and hues orbit each other, while rockets circle below, round and round the hub of Tomorrowland - a perfect bird's eye view of the action below. The Tomorrowland Transit Authority: PeopleMover sails along, around the edges of the plaza and off toward the spires of Space Mountain gleaming in the distance. (8:30) Tall and formidable and undoubtedly the marquee attraction of Tomorrowland, Space Mountain is a thrill and a wonder for all. How else can you imagine to fly alongside swirling galaxies and among millions of stars, all within the span of several minutes? Those shining spires call to the daring, the curious, and those who simply feel as drawn as Walt Disney was space: America's last frontier. Come, let's see what lies in store in the great, galactic unknown. (9:20) An enchanting Star Tunnel plays us a peaceful lullaby, pulling us into a trance as we make our way throughout the space station and toward the loading dock. Constellations float along in tandem with the music on either side, utterly mesmerizing and celestial. Let's pause Here for a moment, among the Magic of the stars. Adventure awaits, but it can always spare a moment of stillness and serenity. (11:38) Onward we go into the depths of Space Mountain. We can hear control tower happenings from our position at the launch, directing travelers all across the galaxy. (14:10) Suddenly, we find ourselves at the helm of our very own rocket, secured and ready (or not) for our own flight across space and time and the grand enigma of the universe. 3-2-1, blastoff! We are one among the cosmos, soaring and winding our way past the Milky Way as it glimmers against the star-strewn blanket of atmosphere. Arrestingly beautiful and oddly serene, it is awe-inspiring to imagine what it must be like to leave the world and all we know behind in pursuit of interstellar discovery. (15:34) A truly unforgettable thrill, Space Mountain leaves us both wind-blown and mind-blown upon our return to Earth. Then it's back out into Tomorrowland and Rockettower Plaza in pursuit of our next adventure. (17:25) Perhaps it's time at last to climb aboard the PeopleMover for a spin around Tomorrowland. Day or night, these views of the Magic Kingdom cannot be beat, and a relaxing, languorous journey is the just what we need after heart-pounding, high test Space Mountain. (19:37) A cool, evening breeze is a welcome relief as our chariot sweeps us away from Rockettower Plaza. Our first stop is a showcase of Progress City, Walt Disney's original inspiration for what later became EPCOT Center. Though his vision for a utopian community was never fully realized, the ideals, themes, and design elements are present throughout Walt Disney World, especially Here in Tomorrowland. (20:22) Gliding along, we watch young and ambitious future motorists taking their place behind the wheel for the first time in a tribute to the growing automotive industry of Walt's day. The Tomorrowland Speedway may not contend with the speed and stimulation that thrill-seekers crave, but the littlest drivers can't get enough. (21:20) And just like that, we're whooshed back to the rocket launch of Space Mountain, watching the rockets on their ascent to take off as we coast toward outer space. From the control tower, we hear that classic last-minute passenger being located. “Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow…Please contract Mr. Johnson in the control tower to confirm your flight to the moon.” Hoping Mr. Tom Morrow makes it before the day is through, we circle past shooting stars and rockets hurtling toward their lunar destinations. Then, it's back into the fading light of Tomorrowland, the spires of Space Mountain glinting in the setting sun. (24:32) Soon, we hear that jaunty Sherman Brothers tune rise up from the theater below, daring us not to sing along as we pass. The Magic Kingdom iteration of Walt Disney's exhibition at the 1964 New York World's Fair, the Carousel of Progress is not only a beacon of the ideals that governed Walt throughout his life and career, but of the ones that still hold true at Disney parks all across the world today. Though nearly six decades have passed since its debut, the Carousel of Progress remains a whimsical, timeless reminder of what can happen when we let our dreams take flight on the wings of Progress and innovation. (25:38) Leaving the notions of America's golden age of industry behind, we speed off toward an epic space mission, accompanied by the one and only Buzz Lightyear. Space ranger and galactic hero, Buzz has enlisted us to aid him in his quest to save the galaxy. Aliens and extraterrestrial volcanoes below promise a spectacular adventure. 27:30) With one final glimpse of the Kingdom beyond, our guided tour of Tomorrowland comes gently to its end. We're back on our own to feet, which may come as a relief after all of the excitement of soaring through the cosmos. Every sharp line and towering obelisk looks significantly larger from this vantage point, and suddenly we gain some perspective on our position in the vastness of the universe beyond. (29:30) A final destination calls to us today, before our journey through Tomorrowland can fully be considered complete. As night falls and neon lights burst into fluorescent life, music spilling out from a galactic hotspot invites us in for a spell. Offering casual indulgences and plenty of seating, Cosmic Ray's is a great place to kick back and enjoy the ambience of an alien night club. (30:45) Our host, the famous and celebrated Sonny Eclipse, takes his place at the piano for a rousing number he affectionately calls the “Planetary Boogie.” An obviously popular favorite amongst the regulars, this snappy, swinging number has even the humans tapping their feet and nodding along between sips of soda and bites of shoestring fries. Get up and dance, why don't you? Don't worry for a moment about embarrassing yourself - you'll never see any of these aliens again, anyway. (32:14) Appetites satisfied and sillies all shook out, we make our way back into the blanket of nighttime. Stranger Things have happened than to find ourselves among otherworldly creatures and stories in the course of a day at the Magic Kingdom, but we can't wait to do it again. We'd be remiss if we didn't allow these moments to enrapture us, call out our childlike wonder and fill us with lasting joy. This place is nothing if not memorable, whimsical, wonderful, inspiring. That is the promise of Tomorrowland: that we who seek to be a part of building the future must employ our imaginations as much as anything else. That the future is a promise built on what becomes of today, and Tomorrow is just a dream away.

A simultaneous sense of peace and excitement washes over the young and young at heart, wrapping us in a warm embrace and inviting us to assume our roles as the ensemble of the enchanting tale that is told anew here each and every day. Anticipation escalates as we approach the Walt Disney World Railroad Station, gateway to the Magic Kingdom and prologue to the magnificent story that we can sense is about to unfold. Our heart skips (and so do our feet) as we approach the station, just in time to hear that familiar "Choo Choo!" of the train whistle as it steamrolls into its stop on Main Street, U.S.A. [04:33] Our walk through the train station tunnel sets the scene for our cinematic journey, a preview of the story about to unfold. Just as you would see as the precursor to a feature film, "coming attractions" line the walls as we travel back to turn-of-the-century America, offering glimpses of all the Magic and wonder that lay ahead. We step out into a bright, sunny day in the early 20th century, alive with all the friendliness and charm of small town U.S.A. Locals greet us as we meander past City Hall, while the town's merriest residents situated around Town Square to greet the newcomers, offer direction, and simply welcome us into the place they call "home." The atmosphere is light and joyful, playful and peaceful in simultaneous synchronicity. Show tunes and ragtime melodies amplify the whimsy of this place, reminding us of bygone days that somehow feel so familiar, although we never lived through the eras of their depiction. [04:52] As we leave Town Square, we herald a passing trolley car, which pauses on its journey right down the middle of Main Street, U.S.A. to welcome us aboard. This is the heart of America at the start of its entertainment heyday. A glimpse into the age of whimsical new discoveries designed to captivate all ages, Main Street U.S.A. is a step (back) in time. After centuries of toil, foraging and rebuilding to create the America of modern day contexts, folks who were hardly making time to enjoy a moment to themselves could be found on a Saturday afternoon in penny arcades, licking ice pops in the heat of the day and catching a cartoon in the cinema with the whole family. We can smell a sticky, sweet aroma drifting through the trolley, its caramel scent tempting our departure. The Confectionary is truly a Main Street, U.S.A. destination, a whimsical candyland where delectable temptations are dipped, decorated and displayed for passersby to lure them into indulgence. On the left, the Main Street Emporium is a treasure trove of sundries and souvenirs to remember a day spent in the Vacation Kingdom. [7:31] The clip-clop of horses and clang-clang of a bell lets us know that another trolley is approaching, and you never know who you might see aboard as it passes by. Waving in welcome and pausing to disembark and greet visitors with a song and dance, the young lovers of small town, U.S.A. are celebrating our arrival. Dressed in their Sunday best and spruced up for the season, you can't help but feel their infectious joy as jazzy brass and foot-tapping percussions make you want to sing and dance along. [12:45] As we continue to make our way up the street, the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor wafts the scent of waffle cones out into the street to entice visitors out of the heat and into an ice cream sundae. Casey's Corner is batter up with ballpark favorites, hearty fare to remind us of summertimes at a ball game, complete with Cracker Jacks and ice-cold soda pop. Minding we don't succumb to the chasms of trolley tracks, we make our way from Main Street into the Hub, a vast, sprawling courtyard filled with fountains and trees and grassy lawns for a picnic or a brief respite. [17:31] Up ahead, the gleaming spires of Cinderella Castle shine brilliantly in the sunlight. It's breathtaking, striking in both beauty and a sort of unreality that is both intriguing and enchanting. Still, adventure is calling, and the distant sound of tiki drums is too inviting to ignore. And so we bid our trolley car engineer a warm adieu and head in the direction of the percussive pandemonium. [18:19] Welcome to a land of mystery and discovery, brought to life by bongos and exotic songbirds, rushing waterfalls and the “yo-ho” of swashbuckling pirates. [19:47] An impressive treehouse climbs up through the tallest, widest limbs of Adventureland, stretching skyward in an entanglement so inseparable from the tree that it looks to have simply grown that way. The thatched roof, netted walls and mismatched brick-a-beach give all evidence to a hideaway for the most resourceful adventurers, of which we are surely included. [20:37] Beyond, we see the resident tiki gods are whistling in hollow, wooden tones as adventurers pass on their way to the World-Famous Jungle Cruise. Whether or not they return from this exotic foray…well, the tiki gods are always hedging their bets. [21:10] In the distance, we hear the unmistakable belt of a steamboat roaring into motion. Still, our attention is occupied by the Agrabanian marketplace we've stumbled into, ornate lamps and jewels scattered on groaning tables in tents for our perusal. Overhead, some mystical, enchanted carpets soar above Adventureland with passengers tipping this way and that. This is obviously the best way to get a bird's eye view, but be warned about the camels: they spit. [24:05] A jaunty accordion calls us away from the Arabian marketplace and into a Caribbean Mercado by the sea. Welcome to Tortuga, the stomping grounds of pillaging, plundering pirates. A seaside fortress clearly overtaken by the conquering seafarers, we'll have to keep our possessions close as we pass through; these pirates are not to be trusted. And so we continue, from the muggy shores of the Caribbean islands and into the parched desert of the American West. [25:48] Welcome to Frontierland. A town straight out of an old wild, wild western film and just as riddled with playful confusion, Frontierland is home to singin' country beats, a briar patch full of laughing critters, and a runaway mine train you'll hope doesn't go awry when you decide to climb aboard. A lively hoedown of banjos, mandolins and an unmistakable fiddle bring this tumbleweed town to life. A resounding “yee-haw” would not be out of place here, accompanied by the mechanical gunshots of players at the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade. Here, folks are accustomed to takin' it easy, and that sounds mighty fine to us. [28:42] Now, we could find ourselves a rocking chair on the porch of Pecos Bill's Tall Tale Inn and relax the day away, but there is much more to discover. We are once again traveling back in time, though back further than the turn-of-the-century. It is 1776, the birth year of America, and we are in the midst of a patriotic palaver that could only be called Liberty Square. Delicate four-four time signatures compose the waltz of this colonial town, redolent with signs of freedom and pride, from the Liberty Bell proudly displayed in the shade of the Liberty Tree and its 13 lanterns to the Hall of Presidents, a hallowed tribute to the nation's leaders across the centuries. We've found the source of the steamboat whistle; the stately Liberty Belle awaits embarkation for a trip down the Rivers of America. [31:02] We, however, are working our way upstream. Past the handsome mansion on the hill that rumor has it is ghoulishly haunted, and under the viaduct that separates Liberty Square from a place less rooted in history and more in, well, fantasy. Stepping out into the sunlight once more brings us right into the heart of every fairytale and “happily ever after” we've ever known. Welcome to Fantasyland. [31:27] It's off to Neverland upon entering this daydream come to life. A tower in the distance calls to mind the wistful maiden who brushed seventy feet of hair each day and longed for the chance to live a life beyond her narrow confines. The children of the world dance and play in harmony together on the musical tour of nations, it's a small world. And isn't it, though? How far and wide we've traveled, and how much more there is to see! [32:51] A clock chimes us into the afternoon as we make our way into the heart of Fantasyland, where a carousel stands as a talisman of childlike delight. Young and old riders choose their regal steed as our favorite fairytale melodies twinkle from some invisible calliope. [35:50] Beyond the castle walls and out of earshot of carousels and clock tower chimes lies a peaceful, quiet village on the edge of an undoubtedly enchanted forest. A quaint little cottage emits curious puffing and whirring sounds, and a fountain at the center of the village spills water out of triumphantly raised steins, held aloft by a most imposing figure and his crony. Violins lilt and twirl out the notes of a catchy waltz, a tribute to the enchanted objects that inhabit the castle in the mountains beyond, and their yearning desire to be “human again.” [37:43] All at once and yet seamless in its transition, those violins give way to a trance of woodwinds. Here we find a charming palace by the sea, extended by elegant stone archways that serve as aqueducts to let water rush in and out of the rocky harbor. A cascade of waterfalls climb over mossy rocks and half conceal a mysterious grotto, where legend tells that mermaids swim and gather treasures from the world above. [38:45] To the South, we hear the tinkering of seven diligent dwarves in a nearby diamond mine, their resounding “heigh-ho” the sign of the workday's end. It is evening, and as the sun gleans closer to the horizon behind us, we carry on. [39:23] The day's end does not draw a line under the fun, apparently, because it seems we've stumbled upon the Big Top circus as its rolled into the Magic Kingdom. The exuberant brass band music invites us to “step right up, step riiight up” and enjoy the marvelous wonders (and cool air) of Pete's Silly Sideshow. This place is perhaps the most colorful and whimsical of all we've visited today, with fortune tellers and snake charmers and magnificent flying elephants taking to the skies. The young and the young at heart find much to entertain them here, laughter a constant vibration above the din and echoing all around. [45:24] The future is calling, and for that we bid the circus farewell and head into our last stop in the Magic Kingdom. This intergalactic adventure is unlike anything we've seen yet. From Star Command to Progress City, this place is a vision of the future that we get to experience in our present. Welcome to Tomorrowland. [47:20] Instead of taking our tour of Tomorrowland on foot, we welcome you aboard yet another highway in the sky: The Tomorrowland Transit Authority: PeopleMover. A spacious and open air carriage in the clouds, the views up here (and the breeze) can't be beat. As dusk settles onto the Magic Kingdom, we watch the sun sink low and golden hour turn to blue as we make our way around Tomorrowland. [47:37] We speed past the hum and purr of the Tomorrowland Speedway, an attraction often smelled before it is heard. (If you know, you know.) The otherworldly spires of Space Mountain exude an iridescent glow in the fading light, enticing the curious into the cosmos. All around Tomorrowland, the familiar voices of monsters and space rangers can be heard amid the disembodied voice of our guide and the robotic, xylophonic music. So much to see and discover, this was the only way to catch it all while still adhering to Roz's “tight schedule.” [52:00] And so our grand circle tour of the Magic Kingdom comes to a whirlwind conclusion as we find ourselves back once again swaying to the ragtime swing of Main Street, U.S.A. We've had quite the adventure, traveling through time and space to spread the wings of our imaginations and experience the wonder so often lost at the culmination of childhood. The Magic Kingdom is a place that grants permission to those who have been told that whimsy is for weekends and fantasy is to be associated with ignorance. This is truly a place of yesterday and tomorrow, of fairytales come to life, of endless possibility. We hope you've enjoyed our journey through the Most Magical Place on Earth. We hope it has brought nostalgia and provided a space for joyous reflection. We hope it inspires your own imagination to awaken once again and soar to new heights. It is always Here for you, as are we - Here, With the Magic. See ya real soon!

In deze aflevering: opnieuw een ode aan Phantom Manor, liefde voor Pirates of the Carribean, complimenten voor de Cast Members en klachten over het beroerde eten.
One of the things we love the most about Walt Disney World is how the Cast Members are empowered to create magic. Whether it's a friendly greeting, the unexpected gift of a free sticker, or even replacing that balloon you lost on Main Street U.S.A., they're always ready to go that extra mile. And let's not forget that the very phrase “Cast Member” was created to emphasize the concept that they are ‘on stage,' and are just as integral to the magic of the parks as the attractions themselves. Who among us hasn't wondered what it would be like to put on that nametag and to have the opportunity to spread our own Disney Pixie Dust? Well in this episode, we're going to do just that, as we talk about: Our Dream Cast Member Jobs!
Join your tour guides Miss Mindy Carnes Muir, Justin Clark and Holly Wood Crawford as they talk about all the things they love about Main Street U.S.A. and why it's so special. Plus 3am Grogu texts, does Shanghai do it better, how Lightsabers are surprisingly affordable to ship, why the ice cream is where it is, honoring our veterans and more! Reasons Why People Continue to Come Home to Disney WorldSome people might call us Disney folk crazy, but there’s just something about that feeling you get when you walk down Main Street U.S.A. and get a sweet whiff of the treats from Main Street Bakery. Or, when you’re transported into a classic Disney story. So, what is it that keeps people coming back? We have a few ideas! At Disney World, there is always something new and excited to see whether it’s a new ride, restaurant, or show. And, that’s part of the draw! You can always find something brand new to look forward to because you definitely need to see it all! And, this constant change is how the parks were meant to be! When Walt Disney opened Disneyland, he said “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world. It is something that will never be finished.”

Welcome to this Disney at Work podcast. Walt's opening words when he dedicated Disneyland was: "To all who come to this happy place...Welcome!" Welcoming guests is a hallmark of the total Disney experience. One of the four Disney keys is Courtesy. A critical customer service behavior expected of all Disney Cast Members is that they greet, welcome, and thank all guests. I saw much of that when guests first pored into Disneyland last week as the gates finally reopened after a long hiatus. I myself felt very welcomed when I first came down Main Street U.S.A. as I entered the Magic Kingdom on Day 1 when it reopened last July. But how do you make it happen every day and in every Guest interaction? That's what we'll address in this Disney at Work podcast. We'll talk about the concept of "assertive" friendliness. We'll showcase different approaches for making people welcomed, and we'll offer you complimentary souvenirs that you can apply back in your own organization. Welcome to this podcast on welcoming others!
This week, we're starting things off with our After Party by presenting our review of Tony's Town Square Restaurant. We recently visited this Italian table service located on Main Street U.S.A., and we're gonna tell you all about it! Then, for our Side Show, we'll be creating our own Walt Disney World restaurants. Hi! Jeremy here! Thank you so much for tuning in to one of my Legacy Podcast Episodes. This episode was part of my original brand name that I unfortunately can no longer use. A true Legend of the Disney Company, Rolly Crump worked on some of the greatest memories of everyone's childhood. He was an animator on Peter Pan and other Disney Animated Classics, helped create The Haunted Mansion and it's a small world (and many other Disneyland and WDW attractions), and has his own window on Main Street U.S.A. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with Rolly about some of the things he's worked on and his relationship with Walt Disney himself. Rolly is one heck of a storyteller, and I hope you enjoy listening to his stories just as much as I did! The Mouse Castle Lounge Podcast: Disney News and Interviews, Cocktails and Conversations
In our last show, historian Sam Gennawey and journalist Mark Eades shared their thoughts about Disneyland's upcoming Star Wars Land expansion. We had some lively conversations and after the dust settled, Mark stuck around. He's back today to tell us about his fascinating career, not only in his current role as multimedia reporter with the Orange County Register, but also as a 20-plus year veteran at the Walt Disney Company. In 1972, Mark started out bussing tables at the River Belle Terrace at Disneyland before becoming a ride operator in Tomorrowland. After graduating from college, he interned at the Walt Disney Studios and eventually worked his way into WED Enterprises, later known as Walt Disney Imagineering. Mark had his hand in developing attractions for the openings of Epcot and Tokyo Disneyland, attractions that included Magic Journeys and Horizons. He worked on the Circle-Vision 360 film American Journeys for the Magic Kingdom and researched the use of motion simulators for what would become Star Tours. Mark left Disney and a few years after that, began working at the Orange County Register. He's now a multimedia reporter for the Register and Disneyland is his beat. Today, Mark shares with us what it was like to be inside Disney Imagineering and what you can learn by camping out on Main Street U.S.A. for an entire day. Mark Eades is Tim's guest today in The Mouse Castle Lounge. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://themousecastle.libsyn.com/rss

OZ: The Great and Powerful 4D preview has been removed and Muppet Vision 3D has reopened at Disney California Adventure. Limited Time Magic - Long Lost Friends Week April 8th - 14th Disney Legend, Harrison “Buzz” Price to Receive Main St. Window - In July 1953, Walt hosted a party and discussed the Disneyland project with architects Charles Luckman, Welton Becket, and William Pereira. When the subject of where the park should go came up, Luckman suggested that Walt talk with Harrison “Buzz” Price. Price worked for the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) and had recently finished two site suitability studies for major corporations. This was the type of expertise that Walt needed. The next morning, Walt had Nate Winecoff call Price and put SRI under contract. Over his long career, Buzz Price worked on an estimated three thousand economic feasibility studies. Most of those were in the leisure-recreation-attraction field. Price would go on to advise Walt and Roy on more than 150 projects.
