In this episode, I'm rejoined by veterinary attorney Justin Weaver of Oberman Law Firm. Justin has an extremely high concentration of veterinary clients and is a well of knowledge on all things legal and veterinary medicine (except for litigation as he lets you know). In this broad conversation, we build on our episode #41 to help a current owner think through a practice sale. An update on the market for veterinary practice demand - seeing a little slowdown. The backdrop on the ingredients for a sale environment. Scheduling and timing of a sale. Non-competes and a sale. The challenges of actually proceeding with a life-changing transaction. Private vs. Corporate and what the future may hold. What's the actual valuation of the stock/equity doctors often get. This may be the most unique episode that we've ever done. It is what it says. Justin Weaver and I talk about the deaths of our fathers. This is a topic that many people don't feel comfortable talking about...or know how to go about it. For Justin and myself, we thought that it was important to have the conversation and wanted you to have the opportunity to listen to it also. Even if you didn't know our fathers, the episode is really good. It is raw...emotional...and meaningful. We talk about the stories of their deaths, perspectives, feelings, and similarities and differences. Please listen....and take the time to rate and review. It was our goal to be as open as possible....and I think we accomplished that. Email: themicisahn@gmail.comInstagram: ahniebpe

In this episode I interview/talk with Justin Weaver...a close friend of mine who happens to be an oral surgeon in real life! However, we don't get to anything dealing with the medical field early on, because we had to talk about how our friendship started....and that was on short term mission trips. What are those? Well, you'd better listen....because we talk all about them. Then, of course we talk about Justin's path through the medical field to where he is today. All along, we banter about goals, philosophies, and our fathers. Even if you aren't interested in medicine...or mission trips...I'm confident you'll enjoy hearing from an amazing person like Justin. Plus...we even hit a funny Borat story before we finish. Enticing....right?Email: themicisahn@gmail.comInstagram: ahniebpe

A Storytelling-Driven Indie Video Game - This Week We Play WHAT REMAINS OF EDITH FINCH! Casual gamer Justin Weaver and serious gamer Ryan Swindoll are joined by Nick Duke to dig deeper into Outer Wilds! Here are the topics from today's conversation: The various themes found in Outer Wilds by Mobius Digital. Ryan calls this his favorite game of 2019. What makes it so amazing? What is it like to play an open world game without levels and quest lines? How can a game explore ideas as different as quantum mechanics and roasting marshmallows at a campfire? How the frustration Justin experienced playing this game taught him about himself. We discuss the various planets and rules of this solar system. Music is such a powerful tool for storytelling, and this game used it in some surprising and effective ways. What is the Eye of the Universe? Is it another Quantum Mechanic or is it a picture of God? We also talk about all the times we crashed and died! Stay tuned to The Story Geeks Podcast for our next episode as co-hosts Sandra, Nataly, and Cilla dig deeper into Mulan with Alan Ng from Film Threat! Mulan just came out on September 4th on Disney+. A Storytelling-Driven Indie Video Game - This Week We Play WHAT REMAINS OF EDITH FINCH! Casual gamer Justin Weaver and serious gamer Ryan Swindoll are joined by Jimmy Roth to dig deeper into What Remains of Edith Finch, a storytelling-driven indie video game! In our fourth episode discussing a specific video game Ryan Swindoll and Justin Weaver are joined by their friend Jimmy Roth, who has been a huge contributor to the conversations on The Story Geeks Facebook Group. Together they will explore the various themes found in What Remains of Edith Finch by Giant Sparrow. What Remains of Edith Finch takes about 2 hours for many players to complete and is probably the easiest game on our curated list to watch as a "movie." We highly recommend playing or viewing it before you listen to our podcast. This game asks us to consider how we approach death and invites us to consider the joy of people's lives, regardless how long or short. We explore the nature of "magical realism" in the tall tales we see throughout the game. How did you interpret the various stories, like Odin Finch sailing his house from Norway to Washington State? Is Jimmy's Grandpa the best storyteller ever? Let us know what you think. Do you agree with our conclusions? Did we miss something? We want to hear what you are thinking about after exploring the Finch house and learning so many family secrets with Edith. Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming conversation about What Remains of Edith Finch on The Story Geeks Youtube Channel! Join us for our next conversation on OUTER WILDS by Mobius Digital. Horror, Indie Video Games, and Deeper Insights - This Week We Play INSIDE by Playdead! Casual gamer Justin Weaver and serious gamer Ryan Swindoll are joined by The Story Geeks co-host Sandra Dimas to dig deeper into Inside, a horror indie video game by Playdead! Inside (the game) can take around 3 and a half hours to complete and rewards replay. It can also be viewed on youtube with or without a player commentary in less than 2 hours. IGN gave this game a 10 out of 10. It is the "spiritual sequel" to Playdead's first game Limbo. This game is rated M for blood, gore, and violence. Spoiler Warning: we jump right into the content and experience of this whole game. What does a game that centers heavily on mind control have to say about the value of individuals? The game's creators have said very little about the meaning of this game, so how do we handle the variety of possible interpretations? Is the monstrous Huddle (or "Human Meatball") the most human thing in the game? How can we find hope in such dark stories? Let us know what you think. Do you agree with our conclusions? Did we miss something? We want to hear what you think is going on Inside. Join us for our next conversation on What Remains of Edith Finch by Giant Sparrow with special guest, Jimmy Roth. Journey. An award-winning indie video game with deep spiritual underpinnings. Casual gamer Justin Weaver and serious gamer Ryan Swindoll dig deeper into Journey! On today's show: In our second episode discussing a specific indie video game, we take a closer look at Journey by thatgamecompany. This game is less than two hours long and rewards replay. This is a BAFTA award winning game, and holds the Guinness World Record for “most mainstream game awards won by an indie video game.” Austin Wintory's gorgeous soundtrack for this game was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category. The first game soundtrack to be considered for this award. Is this the perfect game to play during this time of social distancing? What does this game have to say about trauma, obstacles and struggles? What is this game an analogy for? Is this a picture of reincarnation? Is this a metaphor for a "spiritual journey"? How is it possible to have an entire game with no written or audible language? Ryan and Justin talked for over two hours about this game, so there is a planned second podcast from all the topics we had to cut that will be exclusive to Patreon supporters coming in the future. To watch the #ourjourney video we highlight in the podcast click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5px3qZQYoD4 Let us know what you think. Do you agree with our conclusions? Weaver opens up about rebounding from hard times to operate his own Super Late Model team, that time he stayed up all night to change a motor that eventually led to him winning a championship, racing for his Mummaw, his forgetful first experience in a late model, hunting stories, the branch that got in the way of a big buck, the quarter midget days, his mild and mannered personality, the most emotional win in his racing career, his hero, life off the track, the hardship that's formed him into the person he is today, and if he would ever apply the bump 'n run to his dad if the two happened to race each other.

Christina grew up in Florida, but is now a resident of both Charlotte, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee. She began dreaming of a career in music at a very early age. Her musical influences span several different genres and you can hear those influences (R&B, Pop and Soul) accumulated in her country sound. Christina is part of the family at Go Long Entertainment, LLC, an Artist Development Company based in Nashville, TN and led by VP's of Artist Development, Sherrie Austin and Will Rambeax. The song writing collaboration with Sherrie and Will has already produced some incredible new songs and Christina is itching to get into the studio to lay them down very soon. In the mean time, those living in the Charlotte and Nashville areas should take every opportunity to get out and see this rising star live. In my 15 years living in Nashville, I have been fortunate to watch a lot of friends like Kip Moore, Brett Eldredge, Florida Georgia Line, A Thousand Horses, Michael Ray and more, start their journeys with a back pack and a dream and end up being a huge success in country music.Yet the most frustrating part about being a friend and a fan to not just artist, but writers like Corey Crowder, Justin Weaver, Rick Huckaby, Westin Davis and many more, has been hearing amazing songs that will never leave the Nashville city limits."Nashville Hits Collecting Dust" is a casual, entertaining hangout with friends telling stories, giving valuable advice, and playing great songs that otherwise would still be sitting in a database. My guest are pure entrepreneurs that are living out their dream of being artist and full time songwriters." Newly engaged to the redhead of his dreams, his most recent record deal ended abruptly when the label closed down. With no label, no job and no money, he prepared to walk down the aisle. And then the phone rang.On the other end of the line was Rob’s friend Stephen Barker Liles of country music’s duo Love and Theft. He was calling to tell Rob that a song they had written over a year ago was going to be released as Love and Theft’s first single to country radio. The song, “Runaway”, spent 47 weeks on the Billboard Country charts topping out at #9 and opening the door to Rob’s next adventure. In 2011 Rob helped start the country band Blackjack Billy. For four years, they toured the States, Australia and Canada with their hit song, “The Booze Cruise”.But the story wasn’t over. By November 2015 Rob knew it was time to get back to his roots. Back to a single mic on an empty stage, where the only thing that matters is the voice and the song and the story. A story that changes and inspires and got him here in the first place.

Join us this week as we welcome country music singer songwriter, Ryan Broshear. Ryan is the living breathing embodiment of Country Music. From growing up on a farm to paying his dues in smoky nightclubs, he experienced love and loss while chasing his dream of music. His entire life has been set to the soundtrack of a classic country song. After scoring some hits with his self-titled album from 2012 (like “I Don’t Mind” and “Make Each Moment Last”), Ryan Broshear returns with his new just released six track EP "Paint It Red" (Painted Horse Records). Each of the songs on his new EP, including the mid tempo melodic “Spin Me” and radio-ready anthem “Friday Night In A Small Town”, is written or co-written by Broshear except for “Boots,” a song producer Daniel Agee co-wrote with Justin Weaver. While solidly a neb-traditionalist type of artist, "Paint It Red" showcases how such an artist can release music which is both traditionally-minded and contemporary at the same time. The new EP album from Ryan is available now at all fine digital outlets. We will talk to Ryan about his upcoming schedule, get a behind the scenes look at his music, feature his latest songs, and ask him to share his message for the troops.
