In front of an audience at the Newport Beach TV Fest, the trailblazing writer/director/producer/actress reflects on her time on 'The Office' and how it shaped the series she subsequently created, including 'The Mindy Project,' 'Never Have I Ever' and 'The Sex Lives of College Girls'; the sense of responsibility and pressure that comes with being an American-Indian creator and making shows with American-Indian protagonists; and why she has enjoyed working strictly behind the camera on her most recent series. Do you feel stuck by a set back? If you don't now, you probably will at some point in life. My dad gave me the best advice when we were out trail running and I fell. I was complaining about the fall, even though I wasn't injured. But he was focused on the positive truth: “It doesn't matter that you fell; you got back up.” This has helped shape how I handle disappointments in life - whether it's a lost job opportunity or a personal set back. When something doesn't go your way, you can still find gratitude in seeing the positives in the situation. But perhaps the most important thing is to pause and pray. What does God want you to do with this disappointment? It might be to persevere and pursue the dream further. It might be to completely pivot to something new. Either way, don't stay down when you fall - get back up!Let's connect!Follow me on TikTok @givingyourbestlifeJoin me on YouTubeShop my books hereWith gratitude, Stephanie❤️
Do you say “I'm sorry” all the time? Maybe when you don't even really have anything to be sorry for? I was once told that I say “sorry” too much. In fact, overusing "sorry" can undermine the meaning when you do need to apologize. I've really tried to work on only saying sorry when I have a reason to. Here are some tips for not apologizing too often.Let's connect!Follow me on TikTok @givingyourbestlifeJoin me on YouTubeShop my books hereWith gratitude, Stephanie❤️

Sarah leads a community of over 10,000 members across more than 75 countries and 25 university chapters, creating programs that give students hands-on experience with startups and investment funds. Do the words you speak matter? The Bible tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Are you speaking life? Sometimes we use words and phrases that we don't know what they mean or we don't think about what they mean. For example, do you tell your friends “good luck” before a test? Things such as luck, charms, and “knocking on wood” are not Biblical. We have to think about the words we say because our words have a big impact.Let's connect!Follow me on TikTok @givingyourbestlifeJoin me on YouTubeShop my books hereWith gratitude, Stephanie❤️

For the first piece of advice I wish I understood in my 20s: Talk to God everyday. He will not let you down! Friends will let you down at some point - and sometimes we need to cut them some slack (they're figuring out life too). But we can come to God with any problem, any decision, any sin in need of forgiveness. God is by your side, so talk to Him everyday!Let's connect!Follow me on TikTok @givingyourbestlifeJoin me on YouTubeShop my books hereWith gratitude, Stephanie❤️
Juan Carlos joins the show to share the incredible story of his journey from Miami to the Broadway stage. He opens up about the "athlete's mentality" he brings to his craft, a perspective shaped by his time as a high school carpenter and a college student working three jobs to make ends meet. Juan discusses the bold leap of faith he took by driving across the country to Los Angeles with no representation, only to create his own short film, Oh Brother, which ultimately served as the catalyst for his professional career. The conversation dives deep into the technical and emotional demands of originating a role in the Stranger Things universe. Juan reveals his unique approach to the audition process, including how a "bad" self-tape setup and a willingness to lean into "extrusive thoughts" helped him land the role of young Bob Newby. From hilarious stories about clogged toilets and slipping on ice to poignant reflections on being a person of color in the industry, Juan's earnestness and "delusional" optimism provide a refreshing look at what it takes to succeed in theater today. Juan Carlos is a multi-talented actor, writer, and director who made his Broadway debut in Stranger Things: The First Shadow. Growing up in Miami, Florida, he initially found his way into the arts through animation and musical theater, later honing his skills at a liberal arts college where he balanced acting with carpentry and resident assistant duties. His screen credits include roles in Grey's Anatomy, The Sex Lives of College Girls, and Elsbeth. Watching Ruby Cruz's remarkable and seemingly effortless performance in her latest film, “The Threesome,” I got a hunch that she was engaging with the work on some kind of intuitive level where connection was paramount. I also sensed that this might not be easy to talk about. In one sense I was right, the gifted young actor, who's credits include “Bottoms,” “Willow,” “Mare of Easttown” and “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” approaches the work in an elusive way, but, lucky for us, she still manages to speak about the intangible and slippery aspects with an eloquence that is inspiring. She talks about always knowing she wanted to act, how she turns insecurity into fuel, the joys of working with Zoey Deutch, why she likes to treat auditioning as “an opportunity to make something,” how it all comes down to acceptance, plus much more! Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. The pop singer and actress Reneé Rapp has a deep love for her friends. She maintains a nonstop group chat with more than 15 close friends every day. Their lives are so intertwined that the line between platonic and romantic can sometimes get blurry, particularly since many of them have dated each other.Rapp, best known for her role in the Broadway musical and new film adaptation “Mean Girls,” has an upcoming album, “Bite Me,” which delves into the intimacy and messiness of friendships, not just romantic relationships. Mirroring her album's themes, Rapp walks Modern Love host Anna Martin through various vulnerable moments she has recently shared with friends, including one with her best friend and former “The Sex Lives of College Girls” co-star Alyah Chanelle Scott. It's no surprise that Rapp chose to read the Modern Love essay “This is What Happens When Friends Fall in Love” by Sammy Sass. The piece resonates with her own experiences of sustaining love within queer friendships. While Rapp says she doesn't have a blueprint, she has learned to navigate misunderstandings and express genuine love to those closest to her. Lily's story is a love letter to the artist's life, the importance of friendship, and leaving home only to find it again. Janet Skeslien Charles took the world by storm in 2021 with the publication of the instant bestseller, The Paris Library. THE PARISIAN CHAPTER will give fans of her previous works a new story to devour, but it also serves as the perfect entry point into the world that the author has created for her fans. This original audiobook follows Lily, one of the protagonists of The Paris Library, after moving to France from her small town in Montana to follow in the footsteps of Odile, her beloved neighbor who told her stories of WWII heroism at the American Library in Paris. Voiced by American French actress Pauline Chalamet from HBO's The Sex Lives of College Girls, she serves as the focal point of our story told by eleven different narrators. This full cast audiobook allows fans to experience Skeslien Charles' masterful storytelling in a new way that demands to be listened to for full effect of experiencing the Library, its patrons, and its employees.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
Mirroring her album's themes, Rapp walks Anna Martin through various vulnerable moments she has recently shared with friends, including one with her best friend and former “The Sex Lives of College Girls” co-star Alyah Chanelle Scott. Here's how to submit a Modern Love essay to The New York Times. Here's how to submit a Tiny Love Story. Get ready to be inspired by the brilliant Lolo Spencer — actress, advocate, and game-changer. You may know her as Jocelyn in The Sex Lives of College Girls, from the award-nominated Give Me Liberty, or the heart-wrenchingly funny Bob Trevino Likes It. But Lolo's journey didn't start in Hollywood — it began with a rebellious YouTube channel (Sitting Pretty) created as an escape from corporate life. In this episode, she shares her unconventional path, from editing her own videos to landing major roles, and how authenticity and purpose have guided every step. We talk about representation, imposter syndrome, and the rom-com she's writing to shift narratives. This is a conversation about trusting your gut, showing up fully, and turning your story into your superpower. These are the unforgettable stories that landed Lauren "LoLo" Spencer right here. Today, we sit down with Kallie Fell, the executive director of the Center for Bioethics and Culture Network, to talk about bioethics (or lack thereof) in the assisted reproduction industry. We talk about everything from the lack of long-term health tracking for surrogate mothers and egg sellers to the predatory, exploitative marketing that encourages and exploits these women into selling their DNA and bodies. Kallie tells us about the lack of research into the health effects of IVF and surrogacy and how the little research we have doesn't exactly paint the fertility industry in a positive light. We also discuss some other countries that have banned surrogacy to varying degrees and how we would like to see the United States follow suit in order to protect moms and babies.
