The Whiskey Noobs podcast is a fantastic listen for both whiskey enthusiasts and newcomers to the world of whiskey. Whether you're at home unwinding with a glass of your favorite spirit or looking for something entertaining to listen to during work, this podcast provides a perfect balance of relaxation and education. The host, Chris, has a captivating way of delivering information that keeps listeners engaged and interested throughout each episode.
One of the best aspects of The Whiskey Noobs podcast is its ability to bring a fresh perspective on whiskey. Bryce, a guest on the show, shares his unique outlook that challenges preconceived notions and brings a new understanding to the world of whiskey. This refreshing approach allows listeners to expand their knowledge and appreciation for spirits in an enjoyable and accessible way.
Another highlight of this podcast is the nostalgic storytelling aspect. A listener recalls how they went into lockdown with young children and needed an uplifting hobby. The sound effects used during the show transport them back to a fond memory of a Scottish whiskey tour. This relatable anecdote adds depth to the podcast and creates a sense of connection between listeners and the content.
While The Whiskey Noobs podcast excels in many areas, it does have its flaws. One possible downside is that it may not cater as much to seasoned whiskey drinkers who are already well-versed in the subject matter. Although there are different views presented on whiskey and bourbon, some experienced drinkers may find themselves craving more advanced discussions or tasting techniques.
In conclusion, The Whiskey Noobs podcast is an excellent choice for anyone interested in exploring the world of whiskey or looking for an enjoyable and informative listening experience. With its engaging host, unique perspectives, and nostalgic storytelling elements, this podcast offers something for both novices and aficionados alike. So grab your favorite glass, pour yourself a dram, and tune in for an entertaining journey through the realm of whiskey with The Whiskey Noobs!
And just like that, we are back! http://patreon.com/whiskeynoobs In this episode, I walk through the plan moving forward for the Whiskey Noobs podcast, followed by a quick breakdown of bottled-in-bond whiskey. Finally, we wrap up with a blind tasting of Old Fitzgerald 10yr Bottled in Bond (Spring 2024) against three other bonded bourbons to see if it is truly worth that hefty price tag.
In this last episode of Whiskey Noobs, I go out on one of my favorite types of episodes: listener Q&A. And then, of course, I explain the ending of the show, where to go from here, etc. Thank you all so much for the journey these past few years. Cheers. Finding the right pairing for a cigar or whiskey is no small task. Sometimes the pairing turns out to be exactly what you expected, but that is often not the case. Whiskeys such as Bourbon, Scotch, Rye, and Irish Whiskey are often made from some combination of four main grains: barley, wheat, corn, and/or rye. Each of these brings their own flair in terms of the flavor profile, so what exactly should you expect? In this episode I walk through four examples, and give my experience with each. Yes, this episode is about spitting vs swallowing. Yes, I know how that sounds. But seriously... does spitting out a whiskey tasting change the flavor that you get from it? Or, in order to provide a proper review, must you swallow the whiskey? For years, folks in the spirits tasting industry have claimed they can get a good review without actually swallowing the whiskey. In this episode, I put that to the test with a full review of Dalmore 12yr Single Malt Scotch Whisky (while spitting out the whisky), followed by a re-review without spitting. Since it's Dry January, let's talk about a different hobby: movies. Well... movies AND whiskey. Troy Bolotnick and Charlie Flint are two long-time friends who started as movie writers and actually did what so many of us like to talk about - they started their own whiskey brand, after years of dreaming about it while touring the Kentucky Bourbon trail. People always ask me about what gives different bourbons different flavors, and I almost always make sure that the mash bill is part of my answer. Specifically, how much wheat and/or rye is in it. In order to really nail down the difference between wheat and rye in a bourbon's mash bill, Zack and I walk through a blind tasting of Green River Bourbon vs Green River Wheated bourbon, which have identical mash bills except for one difference: the wheated replaces rye with wheat.
