A reunion worth toasting! After a 50-day recovery from knee replacement surgery, Russ rejoins Matt and Josh for an episode brimming with bourbon knowledge, friendly banter, and genuine camaraderie. The team dives straight into a special tasting of the brand new Bulleit Bottled in Bond Bourbon – the first expression fully produced at Bulleit's own Shelbyville, Kentucky distillery rather than sourced from MPG. This seven-year-old, 100-proof bourbon (priced at a reasonable $45-50) pleasantly surprises our hosts with its complex notes of licorice, brown sugar, and balanced spice. Their enthusiastic review challenges the common perception that Bulleit is merely a mixing bourbon, with all three agreeing this expression stands confidently on its own merits. The episode delivers delightful moments of self-deprecating humor as the hosts discuss their podcast's growing audience and share amusing stories of family reactions – including Josh's granddaughter bluntly informing him he's "not famous." It's these genuine moments, coupled with accessible bourbon education, that make the B-Team Podcast feel less like listening to experts and more like joining friends for a drink.Have you tried the Bulleit Bottled in Bond 7-Year yet? We'd love to hear your thoughts! Subscribe for more bourbon insights, friendly conversations, and upcoming Kentucky adventure plans.

Scott and Jake travel to Newport Kentucky to visit New Riff Distilling and sit down with co-founder Jay Erisman. We kick back inside the Aquifer Bar to discuss New Riff's history, their whiskey portfolio, and what's ahead now that the distillery recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. In this episode, we taste New Riff Bottled in Bond Bourbon, Silver Grove Bourbon, Malted Rye, and their 8 Year Bourbon. Stay tuned to Bourbon Lens for more coverage of New Riff coming soon, including their second batch of Kentucky Single Malt and their Whisky NRD tasting courses currently scheduled at the distillery. About New Riff: Fiercely independent and unabashedly innovative: New Riff Distilling starts with time-honored sour mash methods and bottled-in-bond standards, creating new riffs on old traditions since 2014. Located in Northern Kentucky — the gateway to bourbon country — the independently-owned distillery produces award-winning bourbon, rye, single malt whiskey and gin. Bourbon and rye are also available in single barrel selections, and the distillery boasts a popular private barrel selection program offering quarter, half and full barrel picks complete with personalized labels. New Riff sources its water from an alluvial aquifer under the distillery, accessed via a 100' deep private well and providing cold, clean and mineral-rich water perfect for whiskey making. The public-facing spaces in the distillery, renovated in 2023, include the Riff Shop with customizable gifting options and locally sourced artisan goods; and The Aquifer Tasting Room, located on the third floor of the distillery, featuring signature cocktails, flights, and pours of New Riff's entire portfolio of award-winning spirits including rare, limited-edition, and distillery-exclusive releases. About Jay Erisman: Jay Erisman is vice-president of strategic development and co-founder of New Riff Distilling. A home brewer who became a fine spirits expert and then a self-taught distiller, Erisman is nicknamed New Riff's “chief blender and palate.” He focuses on grains and raw ingredients, cooperage, aging strategies, product development and regulatory compliance. An expert in pot still distillation, Erisman also spearheads the distillery's gins. Previously, Erisman served as fine spirits manager at The Party Source.

This week my guest is "the whiskey professor" Bernie Lubbers, Heaven Hill Distillery's national brand ambassador. If you want to learn more about bourbon, and one of America's oldest and best distilleries, this episode is for you. Bernie explains the criteria for bourbon, as well as the bottled-in-bond classification, something he's championed since beginning his bourbon career in 2005.We also discuss whiskey tastings and tasting notes in general. I asked him about the price of bottles, especially as it relates to the quality of the spirit. And I feel like it can be overwhelming when you go into the liquor store and see 200 different bottles of bourbon. Where do you even start? Bernie provides guidance.Being the bottled-in-bond guy, we talk about that particular class of bourbons, and how to create your own tasting at home.BERNIE LUBBERS and HEAVEN HILL DISTILLERYFind Bernie on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTokHeaven Hill's Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon WhiskeyBuy Bernie's book Bourbon Whiskey: Our Native SpiritSPONSOR INFOHeaven Hill Bottled-In-Bond BourbonI'm excited to introduce you to Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond bourbon. On March 3, 1897, the United States Congress passed the Bottled-in-Bond Act, which irrevocably changed the future of American whiskey. The legislation established a designation that brands could use to differentiate their spirits from those that were basically knockoffs—neutral grain spirit flavored and colored with a range of deleterious ingredients. It also established rigorous production standards for distillers, who still must follow these regulations when making bottled-in-bond bourbon. On this episode of Fix Me a Drink, hosts Noah Rothbaum and David Wondrich discuss the history of the Bottled-in-Bond Act and why it's still relevant today over glasses of Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon. They're joined by two bottled-in-bond experts: Heaven Hill Distillery's master distiller, Conor O'Driscoll, and national brand ambassador, Bernie Lubbers. Together, they discuss the distillery's decades-long commitment to producing bottled-in-bond whiskies and how this 7-year-old bourbon is leading that tradition into the future. So listen to this new episode of Fix Me a Drink. Cheers! Fix Me a Drink is hosted by world renowned liquor experts Noah Rothbaum and David Wondrich. On each episode, the award-winning duo enjoys a delicious drink while uncovering lost liquor history, exploring modern cocktail culture and interviewing an incredible array of spirited guests. Please drink responsibly. This episode is produced in sponsorship with one of our spirited partners. Podcast Editor: Alex Skjong

Cheers,Scott and JakeBourbon Lens About Alex Laufer: Before Alex Laufer became the Co-Founder and CEO of District Made Spirits, he worked in biotechnology for seventeen years. Alex's background in science and love of cooking with local ingredients combined to form the genesis of his passion for distilling. His fixation with good food & drink led him to explore the flavors of every region he's called home, San Francisco, New York, and now the Mid-Atlantic. Alex lives in Silver Spring, MD, with his wife, two sons, and their golden retriever Modi. About District Made Spirits: More than the nation's capital, Washington DC, is the spirit of a region where cultural diversity and sustainability meet forward thinkers, artists, urban warriors, and creators. Distilling with determination, District Made embodies the spirit of this legendary city, crafting adventurous rye-forward spirits true to the values and terroir of the Mid-Atlantic. Founders Sandy Wood and Alex Laufer left their established careers to open a distillery, believing in the heirloom grains of the region, the neighborhood of Ivy City, and each other. They discovered that the risk had paid off after tasting the toasty honeyed spice box flavors in those first batches of spirits made from Abruzzi and malted rye. Today, they bring together agriculture partners, cooperages, small business owners, and community members to showcase the very best of the region. Every bottle of whiskey, vodka, or gin we make features our signature flavor and unparalleled taste known as the Heart of Rye. Smooth enough for sipping and strong enough to hold up the most ambitious cocktails, each proud pour represents the legacy of the land in a meeting place where finding what you're made of all comes with the territory. District Made Spirits are distributed by Breakthru Beverage in Washington, DC, Maryland, Delaware, and Momentum in Illinois. They can be purchased online at www.districtmadespirits.com/shop. Delicious spirits from locally-sourced heirloom grains are handcrafted in Washington, DC by the distillery District Made Spirits, formerly known as One Eight Distilling since 2015. With an updated look and new website, the portfolio includes the Core Spirits Series (vodka, gin, barrel-rested gin, bourbon, and rye) and the experimental small-batch District Made Untitled Series. ABOUT THE CORE SPIRITS SERIES – Rye-forward, locally-sourced grains for the signature spice box flavor profile District Made STRAIGHT RYE WHISKEY (94 Proof; 57% Abruzzi Rye, 14% Corn, 29% Malted Rye) District Made Straight Rye Whiskey puts a spin on classic Maryland-style rye while honoring its agricultural history in the region. Our mash bill highlights a large portion of heirloom malted rye, bringing darker honeyed notes of toast to the flavor in our signature style. Sweet hints of rock candy, cherry cola, and spicy cinnamon balance a nuanced spirit. District Made STRAIGHT BOURBON WHISKEY (95 Proof; 58% Hickory King Corn, 16% Abruzzi Rye, 8% Hard Red Winter Wheat, 12% Malted Rye, 6% Malted Barley) District Made Straight Bourbon Whiskey, aged at least four years, showcases Hickory King Corn, grown in the hollows of Virginia since the 1880s. To create our signature style, we distill this heirloom grain in two different mashbills, one wheated and one high-rye, age them individually, then marry a few barrels together. The result is a drier, richly textured four-grain spirit proudly poured. ANNUAL RELEASE 2023 BOTTLED IN BOND (BOURBON) The first consumer law created was the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 to guarantee the authenticity of a whiskey with a series of requirements that included only whiskey made from one distillery in one distillation season, aged at least four years in bonded warehouses, and bottled at 100 proof. District Made Bottled in Bond Bourbon honors this designation and the region.

If you have been wondering how the new Sazerac produced Early Times Bottled in Bond tastes, this review is for you! Let's find out together, if the Barton 1792 version is still a delicious budget find!In 2020, Sazerac purchased Early Times Distillery from Brown-Forman.
