Wanye and Adam with Kennedy's production help reminisce about the beginning days of Oilersnation while indulging in some unserious conversations of Star Trek Fanfiction, Simpsons episodes, and the invisible string that The Nation has all led us into becoming apart of this amazing community. Including some businessy talk about the risk of starting your own business but also the fulfillment it gives you in life. All this and more on this episode of Wanye's World! Hosted on Acast. Industries change quickly, and skill sets can become obsolete. Add a pandemic on top, and it's fair to say employees and employers face an entirely different reality than they did a year or so ago. Deloitte's National Workforce Transformation Leader Kathy Woods joins for an informative (and hilarious) look at how people of all ages can be "future ready". Twenty or so years ago, they all collaborated on the University of Alberta's official student newspaper - The Gateway. This past year, nearly thirty talented writers resolved to reconnect and collaborate on a reflection of middle age. The result is a powerful, hilarious, heart-wrenching book called "Midlife". Sarah Chan, Jhenifer Pabillano, Adam Rozenhart, Amanda Ash, Geoff Moysa, and Raymond Biesinger hang out for one of the more memorable (and moving) hours in Real Talk history. 24:06 - Kathy Woods 49:31 - Midlife part 1 with Sarah Chan, Jhenifer Pabillano and Adam Rozenhart 1:29:26 - Midlife part 2 with Amanda Ash, Geoff Moysa and Raymond Biesinger

It's a SEASON PREMIERE! A new year brings a brand new season of the Marketing Major Podcast. While the name remains the same, we've got a new format and a new team to spice things up! In our first ~official~ episode, we’re going big with the longest Marketing Major episode to date because…why not? We dare you to listen to it all in one go. First, the gang talks about music streaming preferences and Alex's Big Disc Energy (spoiler alert: it was not the name of the episode). Moh speaks out against suits and pledges allegiance to the Turtleneck™️. [0:49 - 14:40] Next, we are joined by veteran podcaster Adam Rozenhart, as he walks us through his super dynamic career and outlines the importance of unapologetically dedicating yourself to your passions [14:48 - 55:47]. Then, we supplement your education with something curriculum often leaves out—what even is storytelling, and what implications might it have for your career in a digital context? [56:59 - 1:39:33] Role Reversal: In today's special Guest Segment Adam becomes the new host of the pod and turns the spotlight onto the hosts. He asks them questions about their experience in university, their plans post-undergrad, and provides some guidance for us coming out of school and into this wacky world. [1:39:41 - 1:56:57] Lastly, if you made it this far, you might as well stick it out ‘till the end for a somewhat succinct debrief and Moh’s quote(s) of the day. [1:57:05 - end] What can we say? This episode is filled with absolute gems we wouldn't dare cut out. This is the content our listeners DESERVE. Thanks for hanging with us! . . . psst. The seat thumps as you drop heavily into your chair, stretching out your popcorn and cola in front of you to counter balance your descent. You smile as the lights dim and the projector fires up, “I’ve been waiting for this movie for months” you sputter through a mouthful of popcorn. The opening theme rumbles “Here we go!” And… It’s not that good. Maybe it was the pacing, maybe it was a scene that needed to be deleted or added, or maybe it was Batman v Superman. “It wasn’t awful” you think to yourself as you leave the theatre “I wonder what they could’ve changed to fix it?” Glad you said that, because we’ve often wondered that ourselves. What if the Man of Steel wasn’t such a Man of Heel? What if Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull left out all the monkeys? What if Prometheus made even just the smallest bit of sense? Just a tiny bit?! Each month on I Have Some Notes self proclaimed Movie Experts™ Liam Creswick, Gregg Beever and Scott C. Our January meetup was billed as a debate between Taylor Chadwick of What It Is against Andrea Beça of That's So Maven on how long a podcast should be. "Debate" turned out to be a bit of a strong term. As Taylor says at one point, "it sounds like we're just going to agree the whole time." I accept responsibility. Everyone's just so nice. They do come from different points of view on what works for the length of their own shows. The sweet spot for What It Is — an arts interview show that Taylor does with Chris Cook and Brian Bergum — is 70 minutes. That's So Maven — a show for, by and about female entrepreneurs that Andrea does with Lauren Dary — is about half an hour. Both have sound reasons for that, which you'll hear in the podcast, along with the following points: How your content and format dictate length; How the growth of podcasting has made shorter shows more common; Audience feedback on length and what to do with it; Batch recording vs time-sensitive recording; Preparation vs editing for controlling length. You'll also hear questions and comments from Troy Pavlek of Basket of Yegs, Brandon Schatz of Yegs and Bacon and Doctor Whooch, Nick McQuik of The Quik and Slow Comedy Show, and Chris Chang-Yen Phillips of Let's Find Out. Incidentally, I usually like to keep my podcast to less than half an hour, but this one was so full of good stuff that it's pushing 50 minutes. I guess you win this round,Taylor.  This episode is also available in iTunes, on Google Play, on SoundCloud or on Stitcher. For even more on the art of podcasting, listen to Taylor's conversation with Andrea along with Adam Rozenhart of The Expats and German Villegas of The Modern Manhood Podcast. Many thanks to Edmonton Opera for sending one of our audience members to Cinderella (remember that Elektra is coming in March!). Thanks to Variant Edition for their hospitality, and to CafeRista for the treats. Shout-out to Edmojis, too.  Our next Edmonton Podcasting Meetup is on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Variant Edition. One of the coolest things of being a part of a growing city like Edmonton, and being in a media savvy and upcoming media such as podcasting, is the chance to connect with other cool people in the city who are just as passionate about how the city changes and looks. Adam Rozenhart is one of those people, his love for media messages and passion for standing up for the underdogs has led him to start some of the most successful ideas in Edmonton. This includes websites like No Homophobes.com which tracks how many times a homophobic slur is used on twitter, to his collaboration on the OilersNation website, bringing Nerd Nite to Edmonton, and his partnership to bring Pride Tape to hockey. Timely considering that the NHL is starting it’s own Hockey is for Everyone campaign to bring inclusivity to the NHL. Adam should be thanked for that. Along with many other things in between, Adam is also a successful podcaster with two shows on the go, one being the popular Ex-Pats which he talks to people who have lived outside of Edmonton. Adam was a natural for this conversation, just because of his ideas about how to bring people together, inclusivity, his sensitive and cheerful good nature.  I was so happy that Adam was able to join me on my coach to talk inclusivity in online spaces, sexism, and how we can make the world a better place. Haley's podcast is an interview show that gives a voice to people who were adopted, and Wang's is a conversation with co-host Shawn Kanungo riffing on interesting things they've heard other podcasts about business, entrepreneurship, creativity and the like.  But they have a lot in common in that they serve a particular niche, and they aim to be relevant and useful no matter when you happen to discover them.
