When looking back on console releases in history, few are bypassed more than the TurboGrafx-16 (and its little buddy the PC Engine). Our buddy Andre Tipton comes back on to share with us his expertise on Hudson Soft's firecracker of a run in the console race during the '80s and '90s. Before Andre's lovefest on all things TurboGrafx and PC Engine, we dive into what ended being a busy news week in the world of retro gaming! The first two Shenmue games are finally getting a re-release, Sega could potentially bring back Saturn and Dreamcast titles, a new 2D Castlevania game gets announced (although not in the way we hoped), and SNK has potentially really cool hardware coming out soon. Finally, we give our 2 cents on the Billy Mitchell / Twin Galaxies situation so far. The drams are for reals! This week's Stage of History features the best that the PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16 has to offer respectively with Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Air Zonk. Then Robert kicks into action with the surprisingly rare Jackie Chan's Action Kung-Fu in Obscura. Don't forget to pick up our game giveaways for Evil Glitch and Poker Night at the Inventory, then stay with us for another tense game of Random Select. Does Robert sing his way to victory? This week Justin and Saturn begin exploring the long road of PC Engine shmups with the Shooting Legends boxset from PCE Works, Sapphire, and Air Zonk. Tune in next week for the thrilling conclusion!
Another listener request this time, we're looking at Air Zonk for the Turbografx-16, a branch of the Bonk family of games that takes the franchise from side-scrolling action game to shooter. Could this finally be a TG-16 game that Billy and Jeremy don't hate? Also discussed, notable game save losses that brought the three of us back from a gaming high to yet another depressing low. Next week : Jeremy and Billy finally play a guaranteed NES classic they somehow have missed over the past 30 years.
Robocop fights Terminators. We shouldn't have to say any more to sell you on this, but that would be a 5 second podcast, so instead we say a lot more about the game including: a comparison between this and the Super Nintendo version of this game, a discussion of time travel mechanics, and thankfully completely ignore the Terminator movies after T2. We also tackle a listener question regarding what game we would play if we knew this was our last few minutes alive! In an unprecedented display of planning, we have our next two games already chosen! First up is Air Zonk for the TurboGrafx-16 (listener request), and then we take on one of Jeremy P's favorite games of all time, Kid Icarus for the NES.
In this episode we talk about Pokemon Go fumbling, Witcher Blood and Wine, and that future cave man Air Zonk. ----- Thanks to our contributor Ben B. for all the support! -----Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/user?u=3459383 Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/The-Next-Level-297964216910129/ Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg0WYyw4gMPjWFjKeGz8cBg Twitter - @The_Next_LVL Blog - TNLVL.blogspot.com ----- All the songs listed below are the ones we used in the show and we do not own them Splat Attack - Splatoon Character Select - Scott Pilgrim vs The World Boss Intro - Mega Man 9 Title Screen - Mega Man X Global Testifier Title - Splatoon
Celebrating NEC and Hudson's higher energy video game system with a massive episode, guest host Retro Nick educates us on all things TurbroGrafx-16 with a side of filthy humour. Covering games such as Legendary Axe, Blazing Lazers, and Air Zonk, we take an in-depth look at the "other system" in the 16-bit wars by covering its story; from inception to demise, and everything in between. Join us for an episode full of facts, fun, and fecal references (yes, you read that right).
It's a bit later than expected, but the 3DS has finally gotten the second stick (well, a nub really), and enough buttons to make it nearly feature complete with a Wii U GamePad. A herald of things to come for Nintendo, or sheer coincidence? Sean and Vinnk wonder if this is the next logical step for the 3DS, or merely a placeholder for what's really coming next. Vinnks Zonks out with Future Retro, and Sean tries out a Nintendo classic finally coming to the US on 3DS Virtual Console. Vinnk adds another chapter to his Ace Attorney 5 saga in Pile of Shame, and Sean tries out Vindicators thanks to Reddit.
