So for our first console-exclusive we talk about the 1990s landscape of traditional roguelikes, pokemon mystery dungeon games, dirty cheating by route of save states, and really celebrate the first official foray into the Mystery Dungeon franchise for the podcast. Det var en gylden regel da vi var unge og spreke på 90-tallet. 9/10 i spillbladet Edge = MUST PLAY.

On this episode of Random Encounter, we're taking a look at a long-running RPG series that has only made sporadic, but noteworthy, appearances here in the West!Mystery Dungeon began as a Dragon Quest IV spinoff back in 1993, but since then, there have been dozens of games in the series, including crossover titles with Final Fantasy (Chocobo's Dungeon 2) and Pokémon (Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX), along with a standalone series (Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer). And with the release of the latest entry, Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island, we thought it would be a great time to take a deep dive into the series in preparation for our "So You Want to Get Into the Mystery Dungeon Series..." feature! Ben Love is here to walk us through these mystery dungeons and tell us everything we need to know to get started on our own JRPG rogue-like adventure!

There is something extraordinarily special happening in South Florida these days. It has become a hub of education entrepreneurship and emerging K-12 learning models, creating increasingly more abundant and diverse education options for families. I recently had the opportunity to spend several days in the Fort Lauderdale area gathering with these incredible microschool founders. Shiren Rattigan is one of them. She runs Colossal Academy, a beautiful and inviting microschool for middle schoolers. Shiren also does an incredible job of connecting local founders and other education entrepreneurs with each other and with the greater community, sharing resources, hosting gatherings, offering support and encouragement, and really helping to accelerate this entrepreneurial cluster of innovative learning models and schooling alternatives. Colossal Academiy is a VELA Education Fund grant recipient, as are many of the other microschools in the South Florida area. VELA is a non-profit, philanthropic organization that offers grants to education entrepreneurs who are creating non-traditional learning options and other schooling alternatives, including microschools, homeschool collaboratives, learning pods, etc.

This Halloween, four ghoulish brews that go bump in the night return to give the Bros a wicked fright. Or at least a wicked buzz. In Halloween fashion, it's time for our first sequel as we once again sample "Sharing Sizes" by Free Will Brewing. We'll discuss each of four beers that certainly aren't related to Twix, Almond Joy, Peanut Butter Cups, and Thin Mints. We'll talk about the changes in each brew as well as what's up with Free Will these days. Alongside the brews we'll be talking about the history of candy and its relationship to trick or treating. Come have a spooky brew and share some good times, and as always, enjoy.Cheers!

This week's episode of Roguelike Radio covers a classic commercial game relatively unknown in the U.S., Fushigi no Dungeon 2: Furaai no Shiren, a.k.a. Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer. Although part of a long-running Japanese series that's still fairly obscure (in its non-Pokemon forms) in the West, this did receive a recent U.S. release as Mystery Dungeon. The participants this time are John Harris and Keith Burgun. They had a blast covering this one -- although it's just two people this time they talked for an hour and a half, and could easily have gone on another hour. The two of panelists are devoted Shiren fanatics, and John argues particularly think it's one of the best games of the 16-bit era. Note -- this is not the recent Wii release, which is an inferior game in our opinion.Read more »
Gary Butterfield and Kole Ross delve into Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon. If you're judging this game on adorableness, it passes with flying colors. If you're judging it on mechanics, it's the best introduction to Roguelikes you're likely to get. If you're judging it on story... Wait, where's Rafaello? I love him so god damn much. This week has been light for the gaming industry, but the crew more than makes up for it with looks at Aliens vs. Predator, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, Shiren the Wanderer, and Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days. We also have a few surprises in Movie Minute and Import Minute. The news gets colorful, as the crew discovers the truth behind Square Enix's recent FFXIII screenshots, the new Kingdom Hearts title, Blockbuster breaking street dates, no CG in God of War 3, Microsoft's phone , details on Left 4 Dead 2 DLC, and so much more you may wish every week was a "light" week!

Street Fighter IV Hey kids! It’s the OSMcast_! _And tonight/today/whenever you are listening to this, we’re talking about Capcom’s latest fighting game, STREET FIGHTER IV! And other stuff, too. Like God Hand, Lost Odyssey, Shiren the Wanderer, Senko no Ronde… and Superman 64. (Sorry about that.) OSMnotes Street Fighter IV is out on Xbox 360 and PS3, and in fact is _so _brand new it hasn’t even been out a week when this podcast gets posted. Therefore you should go out into the world, walk into a store, and go buy it. Because that may just be the last time you see the sun for some time. However finding a decent stick or one of those fancy fightpads… Not so easy. Thumbnails tell you nothing, so I made a larger version clickable. So I suggest that spend your money on Senko no Ronde instead (Please ignore the stupid cover art. Yeah, Ubisoft didn’t have a clue what to do with this thing.). That is, if the idea of Street Fighter in the context of a shoot ‘em up appeals to you. On the other hand, the good man Inubito would suggest that perhaps Slide America – A Nationwide Documentary on Drifting in North America might be something you hip drifting cats would be interested in. It will certainly be a more accurate portrayal of the sport than other movies releasing this year. If you ain't outta control, you ain't IN control! And in a stunning change of events, we got an email! Shock! Awe! Baseless pandering finally paid off! Yes, YOU TOO (!!!) can be mocked by us for the Internet to preserve for all of eternity! All it takes is sending us an email! There are other ways you can contact us, but I’ll leave to you to read on down to the contest copy-pasta or to the lovely information in the side bar. But yes, it is now proven by one of our intrepid listeners : if you send us an email, we _will _answer it. The rules for this contest are very simple! You just have to talk to us! No matter what, we’ll need an email. You can send us one at osmcast@gmail.com. Also, you could leave us a comment in the comments section below this post. Or call us up on the OSMline at (206) 202-0071. However you do it though, we’ll need an email to contact you. The PRIZE AS WE HAVE NOW ANNOUNCED, is an OSMcast T-shirt! Possibly a one of a kind! Or at least a very few of a kind…
